A disappointment
There is a top box on this page, titled "Report all things on Phabricator!". Then saying "All new reports should be reported there". The link is to: [1]. (The phabricator logon page). When I login with my wiki name DePiep, it fails. On top of this: why should I login on a non-wiki site with my wiki-id??? -DePiep (talk) 21:43, 20 July 2015 (UTC)

- @Lingzhi: The first issue doesn't qualify as a bug - it's an issue with the typo rules that AWB uses, which I have now fixed.
- For the second issue, the rules don't catch every single typo. Since Final Fantasy is the only article that contains "charcaters", it doesn't warrant a new rule, so I just fixed the typo manually.

Incompatibility with Norton Internet Security
I have Norton Internet Security installed on my computer. When I installed AWB, Norton flagged most of the files as being a threat and deleted them. I was able to get around this by temporarily disabling Norton, but when I switched the computer back on this morning it went and deleted the files again. This essentially makes use of AWB impractical. Obviously something in those files is causing a false-positive (or maybe they really are infected). Can this be investigated and fixed please? - It might not be a Norton error. As far as I know, AWB could be genuinely buggy. It's certainly causing Norton to react in a way that doesn't happen with any other software I run. Bazonka (talk) 08:07, 30 October 2015 (UTC)

- I've tried it again and Norton descibes AWB as being an "Insight Network Threat" and that "There are many indications that this file is untrustworthy and therefore not safe". Reading further into it, this essentially means that it has too few users from the Symantec community to be able to get a decent reputation score. To resolve this, the developers need to submit it to the White-Listing program. See [2]. I suggest that this is done. Regards, Bazonka (talk) 17:21, 30 October 2015 (UTC)

I've just had exactly this problem. After a long online chat with tbeir service centre I didn't really get any more information than above. I have also submitted a false positive and allegedly they are going to reply within two working days. It may help if the developers contact them directly. I suspect that part of the problem may be the rapid rate at which the software is updated. Norton are treating it as a new item each time. SpinningSpark 19:21, 12 December 2016 (UTC)

- I'm reluctant to just spend money on code signing certificates on a whim; they've not said this is the problem, though it's more of an issue with Windows 10. It's stupid free software has to pay money for this. I'd personally suggest vote with your feet, and not use "security" software with such questionable histories, poor support who won't tell you what's going on. - I'm not surprised you didn't get anywhere if you showed the same attitude that you showed to me in your responses at T152997. I did the work of contacting Norton, got a very helpful response, requested and obtained putting AWB on their whitelist, and provided you with a link where you could get future releases pre-approved for free. But even that is too much effort for you apparently. I give up, AWB is a basket case.
- Norton's advice to software vendors is largely about digital signing. This is far more than a whim. Digital certificates are an industry wide standard and pretty universally recognised as good practice. If, in addition, you have a security software vendor telling you that lack of them is likely the cause of your problems then you should probably be doing it. Seems to me there is a good case there for a grant from the Foundation. Procrastinating about it is definitely not going to get you anywhere. SpinningSpark 16:17, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

- I was referring to the "basket case" remark. All constructive efforts are welcome. Maybe it's because I'm a former dev myself that I understand to an extent why they would prioritize things the way they do. I can see this issue as not being as important as others because a user can whitelist their app, like I have done with Avast. Ultimately a fix for this issue would be a wise course. @Ottawahitech and Stevietheman:
- The edit summary does not say AWB, so AWB didn't do it.
- User:BG19bot says at the bottom that this job runs with a python script. The page says,
This user account is a bot that uses AutoWikiBrowser,...
It does not say ONLY uses. - The messed up section header was added by Ottawahitech on the edit before the bot's edit. This was detected by CheckWiki, which is how the bot was run on the article.
- Bot was not incorrect error correcting. No heading starts with just one "=" per WP:BADHEAD. This is an accessibility issue as the edit summary states. The bot correctly fixed this. The bot still left the section heading unbalanced.
- The section heading had two problems before the bot arrived and left the page with one problem.

Can not compile SVN

unable to report errors on Phabricator
I tried to report a bug on Phabricator. I tried to login with my usual account as stated above. It rejected me saying I cannot have spaces in my username. How do we use our usual accounts if we have a space in our username? Surely the policy on usernames has to be consistent! Kerry (talk) 00:37, 20 February 2016 (UTC)
- @Kerry Raymond: Are you trying to log in using the fields marked "LDAP Username" and "LDAP Password", or the button marked "Login or register / MediaWiki"? Unable to Start - continually asks for new version of AWB
Suddenly a couple of days ago, AWB stopped working. I can build a list, then when I try to Start I select the logon and after a few seconds it gives me the following message:
- "This version of AWB is not enables, please download the newest version. If you have the newest version, check that Wikipedia is online.
- Please press "Yes" to run the AutoUpdater, ..."
So I press Yes and it updates. Then I start AWB again, and the same happens again. And again. I can't see another report of this, so maybe it's something strange about my configuration (Windows 8.1, Google Chrome Version 49.0.2623.112 m, AWB Version 5.8.5.1). --Gronk Oz (talk) 10:25, 21 April 2016 (UTC)

Page blanking
I have had a few occurrences today.
- The "nothing to save, blank page" message comes up.
- The diff shows the correct "before" and a blank "after".
- Hitting "start" generates the correct "after".

Shows box instead of Bengali fonts
Hi, I have installed AWB in Ubuntu using Wine to work in Bengali Wikipedia and Wikisource. Everything is working fine except only boxes are shown instead of Bengali fonts. -- Bodhisattwa (talk) 14:29, 7 September 2016 (UTC)
Norton Internet Security
Thank you for the wonderful program.
When we use AWB with Norton Internet Security, the security soft doesn't allow us to use AWB. There are error messages:
- autowikibrowser.exe - SONAR.Heuristic.152
- awbupdater.exe - WS.Reputation.1
- wikifunctions.dll - WS.Reputation.1

AWB won't start, and Phabricator won't let me sign on
I understand this is not the preferred place to report a bug, but Phabricator says that both my user name and password are invalid.
My problem is that after updating AWB to the latest version a few minutes ago (as Adminsitrator), AWB will no longer start. If gives the following error message:

- Update: I tried restarting the PC and running AWBUpdate again, in case it could clean up whatever the problem is. But it won't run either - If gives the following error message:

- If you upgraded as an administrator then try to run as another regular user you've probably got your file permissions in a conflicted state. As the simplest way forward I suggest you download the latest AWB zip manually from sourceforge, unzip that to a new folder as the Windows user you will run AWB as, then run AutoWikiBrowser.exe from there, don't run the updater. If that all works you could manually copy over any plugins used from the old installation. I'm assuming you're running on your own machine rather than a work one that has restricted access. That did it! I downloaded the zip file, extracted all the files with the user I use to run AWB, and now it works fine. - I'm receiving the same error message on another custom project. Our site has just been upgraded to MW 1.27.1 if that makes a difference. I'm using project: "custom" from the dropdown menu, followed by "https": "wiki.guildwars2.com/" (to get it to target https://wiki.guildwars2.com/api.php). I think these settings should work. - Just a follow up FYI, we've found that our namespaces were configured incorrectly due to an extension, in this case Semantic Mediawiki 2.4.1 (we're about to patch up to 2.4.3) - the PHP error generated by the namespace problem appeared in the logs as "Notice: Undefined offset: [104|105] in ...\ApiQuerySiteinfo.php", which unsurprisingly breaks AWB because its searching for a namespace (in this case "104", Type) that hasn't been setup properly. Alternate logon to AWB
ResolvedMy normal logon for username hmains still works fine, but since a few days ago my logon to hmainsbot1 fails with a popup saying 'logon failed Aborted'. I have not changed anything. - I have no inside knowledge of AWB but standard procedure would be to log off your Wikipedia account (Hmains would click "log out"). Wait a few seconds. Log on to Wikipedia as normal. Caution: you do not have email enabled, so there is no way to recover if you have somehow set a password that you cannot enter to what the system expects. After confirming you can log off/on as a user, start AWB. If AWB says you are logged in, use AWB File, Logout. Then use AWB to log in using the new password that worked for the Wikipedia account (not an old password that AWB may have remembered). Johnuniq (talk) 04:55, 8 November 2016 (UTC)

- I've been getting this message in a dialog box that appears for a second or two and suddenly closes every time I've tried to run it in Windows 8.1 for the past year or so. It still happens with the current release version (i.e., release 5900). Doesn't matter what directory I run it in, C:\ or otherwise. I have every feature in the the .NET framework 3.5 and ".NET framework 4.5 advanced services" enabled at the moment, although I've tried it with only the 3.5 features enabled and it still fails to run. I really have no clue what the problem is or how to work around it. The browser version of AWB unfortunately has much less functionality than the application, so I rarely use it.
- This is a cropped image of my desktop with the AWB directory and the dialog box that I keep seeing when I try to run AWB. If anyone has any clue about how to fix this issue, I'd appreciate the help because I'd really like to use AWB again.

Categories being skipped
I am processing a list categories to make some changes in the content. But some categories just get skipped and I must go manually edit them. The common feature of these categories is that the first line is a blank line. Is this a bug in the latest AWB? Hmains (talk) 06:12, 26 January 2017 (UTC)

Hmains If I am correct, some pages are categorised via templates instead of categories and AWB can't recognise them to rename them. The first page uses {{Stub Category}}. This is one of the reason I don't like categories generated by templates. Dot after template:citation needed
I could not report this at the new bug site because I can not log into the site using my Wikipedia user name and password :-). However I am not sure if a mistake in the AWB script counts as a bug. So I will report it here and let other decide. AWB finds dots after a {{citation needed}} template and removes the dot by default, but unlike with an in-line citation it does not put a dot before the citation needed.
The latest article I have come across where this occures is in the article Incest there is a dot after a {{citation needed}}: "and they are usually stripped of their last name[citation needed]."

I had assumed (wrongly)—not noticing the similarity regular expression pattern matching that{{citation}}and{{citation needed}}are actually quite similar—that this was a standard rule. As over the last couple of months I have seen about half a dozen cases ofThis is a fantastical sentence[citation needed].

Hello
I try to add only the orphan banner, checking manualy a category of pages. AWB works fine with finding if the page is orphan or not. But when i use the "Pre-parse mode", every pages are falsly detected and highlighted in green. Is there something to do ? --Archimëa (talk) 09:47, 14 May 2017 (UTC)

Possible conflict with two-step verification
I'm not sure this is a proper bug, so I'm trying here, before opening a task on Phabricator: I have a problem in logging in to AWB with my main account since I've enabled the two-step verification (I'm admin on both it.wp and Wikidata). It doesn't just let me log in, it just gives me "aborted" as a message and that's it. I can log in as a bot though.
I've tried disabling the two-step verification, and it lets me log in without any problem, so I guess this is the problem. How can I fix it? Is there any suggestion or do I have to report this bug? --Sannita - not just another it.wiki sysop 11:49, 18 June 2017 (UTC)

AWB won't work and gives me a bunch of errors
Hey there! I'm from Turkey, so I'm connecting with VPN to here. Anyways, I have a problem with AWB in the last days. When try to run it, mirror windows appears and program won't let me log in. I'm using my computer in Turkish but these are the mirrors:
WikiFunctions.Parse.Parsers type initializer returned an exception Failed to read data from transfer link: An existing connection was forcibly closed by a remote host Base connection closed: Unexpected error occurred in submission

- It's a network error, presumably related to your use of a VPN. If your browser requires specific proxy settings to use the VPN, AWB will pick these up from the defaults for Internet Explorer browser, so you may need to set up the VPN proxy there for AWB to work, even if you then use another web browser. Bots tab gone on nl.wikinews.org
A few weeks ago I used AWB on nl.wikinews.org and at that time I had a bots tab in AWB. Starting the same version of AWB up again, this tab has gone, only for nl.wikinews.org. The status of the account hasn't changed either: my botaccount has still a botbit. Using AWB also at nl.wikipedia.org, also with botaccount, there the bots tab still is present. The same problem now occurs in Wikia (aka FANDOM). Logging in using AWB and a bot account used to work, but although the latest AWB still recognises the bot flag, it doesn't allow the Bots tag because the account supposedly is not an "approved" bot (so why does it have a bot flag?). — Korax1214 (talk) 09:24, 22 August 2017 (UTC)

The current behavior of this I believe tags for any pages with 1-3 links or based upon a percentage of the page. However, I think a check should be added to checks only pages above 100 words or something similar, since 1-3 tags seems like a bit high for pages with 1-2 sentence stubs. Hello. Before doing a false report at Phabricator, i would like to know if others users have this problem : Since Friday, I'm unable to launch AWB. When loading, an error message stops the process : "error come with WikiFunctions.Parse.Parsers". After this, AWB takes a long time to load, with an error of loading time... Then the software is launched, but disabled or not working. Does this problem come from my side -- I did'nt changed anything to my OS, any hadware or software changes, but Windows update only-- so i'm a bit surprised? Bug in preview
When I preview a article that has an unknown template parameter, I see the expected warning message such as "Warning: Page using Template:Infobox website with unknown parameter "Video Personality" (this message is shown only in preview)." But if a parameter is used twice, I don't see a warning from preview within AWB but if I edit the article normally, preview gives something like "Warning: Audioholics is calling Template:Infobox website with more than one value for the "logo" parameter. Only the last value provided will be used. (Help)" Does anyone know anything about this? MB 00:29, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
- The first type of warning is made by code in some templates, e.g. {{Infobox website}} using Module:Check for unknown parameters. The text is normal template output (apart from only occurring in preview) displayed in the place of the template call. It for example happens for
{{Infobox website|foo=1}}. - The second type of warning is completely different. MediaWiki automatically makes the warning for all transclusions with duplicate arguments and displays it above the whole preview and a horizontal line. It was introduced at phab:T85352 and uses MediaWiki:Duplicate-args-warning. For example, {{Void}} does nothing but previewing
{{Void|foo=a|foo=b}}will show the warning. Special:TrackingCategories has other features which also display a warning above the preview, e.g.{{DISPLAYTITLE:Foo}}triggering MediaWiki:Restricted-displaytitle. I'm trying to run searches in AWB to find easily confused words to resolve. I think the search I was using was "Wiki search (text)" but that no longer gets any results. Have I accidentally changed the search I was using or has something disenabled that search. On a broader note we have "Wiki search (text) (all NS)" which does work, but that gets lots of talkpages which are littered with typos that I don't want to fix. I think it would be useful to have a search option that covers articles, drafts, portals and file descriptions. ϢereSpielChequers 09:43, 16 September 2018 (UTC)

error connecting
My AWB is having an error connecting to my wiki at miraheze.org. The errors it displays are as follows. "Received an unexpected EOF or 0 bytes from the transport stream." "The Underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a send." My AWB is up to date, and doesn't display this error with my test site at referata, they told me that this was AWB related and not Miraheze related on Phabricator. Simple filter shows extra titles
Greetings, after upgrade to newest AWB, titles found after "Filter" include extras not matching the filter. For example: Make list / Category - Articles lacking in-text citations from November 2018 / Convert to talk pages / Filter / Keep titles containing ( Q ) / shows 5 results, 2 have "Q" as first letter, 3 do not. Login issues
I changed my Wikipedia password yesterday, but now I can't log in with AWB. Note I use a 'GiantSnowman@AWB' account as I have 2FA and that password has not changed. GiantSnowman 18:06, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
- Unsure if this is relevant, but when I try and log in to AWB as 'GiantSnowman' it says "Login failed - aborted", and when I try as 'GiantSnowman@AWB' it says 'Login failed - failed'. GiantSnowman 18:15, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
