Trying to find original German version of Bertold Spuler essay on the Ottoman Empire as part of Persian Historiography edit

{{resolved}}

For Languages of the Ottoman Empire

I'm trying to find the original German text of a source that was a translation from German to English and I want to see if this is it.

The translation I'm trying to match is this:

  • Spuler, Bertold [de], translated from German into English by Muhammad Ismail Marcinkowski. "Persian Historiography Outside Iran in Modern Times: Pre-Ottoman Turkey and Ottoman Empire" (Chapter 13.5). In: Persian historiography and geography. Pustaka Nasional Pte Ltd, 2003. ISBN 9971774887, 9789971774882. Start: 68. CITED: page 69.

Thanks, WhisperToMe (talk) 07:31, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@WhisperToMe: Most of it is available in this Google Book preview. I don't know if that will tide you over until someone can send you the full chapter. —Bruce1eetalk 08:09, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Bruce1ee: Thanks for finding that! It seems like it contains the content that was cited, but I would still like the full chapter so I know what page number it occurs on for that ISBN WhisperToMe (talk) 11:52, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
WhisperToMe, why do you need the entire article if you are only interested in one tiny section? The title of section 13 ("Persian Historiography Outside Iran in Modern Times") is a translation of "Iranische Geschichtsschreibung ausserhalb Persiens in der Neuzeit", pp. 154 et seq. in https://books.google.de/books?id=VPBlAncugn8C. Shouldn't that suffice? — Pajz (talk) 18:14, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Pajz: The reason why I was trying to check this one is that the ISBN is different and I'm trying to see if the content uses the same page number or a different page number. The Google Book which I have access to used the ISBN 9004008578, 9789004008571, while this version uses the ISBN 9789004304994. However I just checked the Gbooks version and it looks like the pages might be the same. Compare 100 and 101 of 9789004008571 with 100 and 101 of the preview of 9789004304994. Assuming the pages are the same I don't need the document. WhisperToMe (talk) 21:48, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
WhisperToMe, I'm not really following but the volume is from 1968 ... It doesn't have an ISBN. In practice, however, all sorts of content providers make up new identifiers -- even though the only thing they do is digitise the work in some way. There is no point in providing such ISBNs in a Wikipedia article. I would check if the front matter of the book is also available via Google Books and then check the relevant section. If you can't view them, let us know, then I can send you a scan of the front matter and the relevant section from the physical volume. — Pajz (talk) 06:08, 30 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Pajz: The book preview does include the table of contents. According to the TOC Spuler's work begins on p. 100, with the section on Turkey beginning on p. 163. The next section of Spuler's work begins on p. 165. My guess is that the digitizers added ISBNs after the fact. WhisperToMe (talk) 18:12, 30 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
WhisperToMe, I'm sorry I really don't understand what, if anything, you are requesting. First you said you need the whole article, then I suggested that a particular section might be sufficient, to which you responded by saying you may not need anything at all -- and now your last comment doesn't add anything, so I'm really at a loss. Best, — Pajz (talk) 19:00, 31 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I apologize for the confusion. I was wanting to check whether the exact content occurs on the same page number, or on different page numbers, in two different versions of the same document. There are books out there which are published in multiple editions or multiple formats (softcover, hardcover, eBook), and despite these versions being identical in every other way, the same content occurs on different page numbers. When dealing with large works being cited, it is desirable to have the exact page numbers. WhisperToMe (talk) 03:18, 1 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Pajz: Would it be okay if you sent only pages 163-165 from the version here? If you wanted a particular request then perhaps this would be an idea. This should correspond to the exact content I wanted to review, and sometimes Google Books previews get removed, so it may be good for me to have an extra copy of the pages in question. Would this resolve the issue? WhisperToMe (talk) 04:52, 1 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know what Brill has digitised, and I don't think it matters. As I said, a book from 1968 is a book from 1968, and I believe it should be cited to as such. So I set you a scan of the relevant pages from the 1968 volume; your call whether that is what you're looking for :). — Pajz (talk) 22:49, 7 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Pajz: Thank you! Checked the pages and I confirmed that they're what I need! Based on what I've seen, the digitized version on Brill has the same pages so it's all the same. WhisperToMe (talk) 23:17, 7 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@SoWhy: Email me for Art of Warcraft. There's little if anything useful there. It's unabashedly fanboy, with lots of pictures and little text. What text there is tends to be basic plot of the series that I'm sure you have better sources for, or "critical commentary" in the vein of (I'm paraphrasing, it's actually worse) "The 3D rendering is awesome. The amazingly talented team at Blizzard really brings the units to life." The two pages that Godric was able to send are very helpful and have cleared up some of the confusion, but if anyone can supply the third (the middle page of the three), it would be much appreciated in the interests of completeness. Morgan seems to have recycled some of his titles on different works. DuncanHill (talk) 10:42, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@DuncanHill: Please clarify what "third page" you still need. Per https://www.jstor.org/stable/j.ctt17w8h53, "Appendix Main publications by Kenneth O. Morgan (pp. 235-236)" is only two pages. There is no "middle page". --Worldbruce (talk) 04:55, 11 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@DuncanHill and Worldbruce: This Google Book preview shows an Appendix of three pages with one page missing. —Bruce1eetalk 07:19, 11 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@DuncanHill: The difference between Google Books (eBook) and JSTOR is simply a matter of page layout. Google Books page 48 contains 9 entries, from David Lloyd George through Consensus and Disunity. JSTOR page 235 contains 15 entries, from David Lloyd George through The Oxford Illustrated History of Britain. Google Books page 50 contains 7 and a fraction entries, it picks up with the last part of the entry for Callaghan, and ends with Revolution to Devolution. JSTOR page 236 contains 15 entries, from Labour People through Revolution to Devolution. If you have the two JSTOR pages, you have everything. If you don't have the JSTOR pages, email me for them. --Worldbruce (talk) 13:39, 11 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
WorldbruceThe two pages I have, which were emailed to me by Winged Blades of Godric from JSTOR, match the two I can see on Google books, with the missing page being the page not available on Google books (page 49). The first page lists 9 books, from David Lloyd George: Welsh Radical as World Statesman through to Consensus & Disunity. The other page I have lists 7 books, from Crime, Protest and Police in Modern British Society through to Revolution to Devolution. There are obviously works missing -I have some of them! You mentioned Callaghan and the Oxford History of Britain, they must be on the missing page. One of the problems with his bibliography is people not quoting the titles in full, as he has written at least 3 works called in part, David Lloyd George which can only be distinguished by the full title (and two of which appear to have the same full title despite being different works). DuncanHill (talk) 19:00, 11 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@DuncanHill: What I have from JSTOR is most emphatically not what you describe as having received from WBG. My list totals 30 works spread over 2 pages. I can't see how WBG could have gotten what you describe from JSTOR. In any case, if you want the longer list, email me. Otherwise I'll throw it away. --Worldbruce (talk) 00:18, 12 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure as the citations in LGBT social movements article for this link are about South Africa LGBT Rights, not Nigeria (unless South Africa was mentioned in passing). --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 18:27, 12 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Głos no. 4 (published 2010) edit

 – This is a more appropriate place for the discussion.
  • "[Unknown title]". Głos. No. 4. 2010. p. 6–7.

As the section title says, I am specifically looking for the fourth issue of Głos, which was published in 2010. I have a source lead for a claim that has remained largely unsupported in a Wikipedia BLP for years, which I found via WikiBlaming some inserted text to discover the original purported source stated in December 2012. According to that lead, it's in pages 6–7 of that magazine issue, the magazine allegedly being this one. If anyone can find a copy of it, preferably but not necessarily a digital one I can directly access (scans are fine), that would be great. All my searching attempts have yielded such little evidence that I even question the existence of this purported source. Hopefully, someone who is fluent enough in Polish can assist me further here. If this is not the right location for this request, please send me to where I should go. Thank you. —Nøkkenbuer (talkcontribs) 03:15, 14 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Though someone may be able to help you here, the usual place for such requests is WP:RX. Deor (talk) 14:31, 14 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much, Deor. I had completely forgotten about WP:RX; I haven't needed additional help like this before, since I'm usually able to find it on my own, so this is all new to me. Unless you have any objections, I think I'll move the discussion there and note it here with {{moved discussion to}}. —Nøkkenbuer (talkcontribs) 10:54, 15 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

More jazz articles lacking titles for citations edit

{{resolved}} More citations lacking titles for Wikiproject Jazz.

Thanks, Vmavanti (talk) 10:16, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Vmavanti, I requested #5 from the German National Library, and was told that they could not find anything discussing Mr. Gonda in the two numbers of 1969: The article on p. 32 of no. 1 (Kurt Blaukopf, IMDT - une présentation) is unrelated, according to their research, and no. 2 does not have a page 32 at all. (They sent me the tables of contents.) That is all I know. — Pajz (talk) 11:08, 14 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for that effort. Maybe the answer is simpler and embarrassingly obvious. My guess is that a source was used simply to back up the claim that Gonda is head of the jazz department at that school. One can find that claim supported at the bottom of the article in the attribution in a pdf at the International Journal of Music Education at the Sage site. Arrrgh.

Chapter on Caxton Society edit

For Caxton Society, I'd be grateful for a copy of the chapter "Individuals in concert", within which page 50 of this book falls, or at least the pages relevant to a mention of the Society that appears there – as seems to be usual, the Google Books preview is omitting relevant pages for me. Newer carbines outperform M4 in dust test in Armytimes edit

  • Cox, Matthew (December 17, 2007). "Newer carbines outperform M4 in dust test". Army Times. Gannett Government Media Corporation (?). ISSN 0004-2595.

For de:HK416 in need this article. It's probably published in December 2007. Can pls somebody get that article because in de wp it's probably heavier to get that. Pls ping me, I'm not very active in en wp.

Thanks, Sanandros (talk) 20:48, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Sanandros: I've found a copy of this article that was posted on a forum here. It's not the original, of course, but it may be enough to get you going. I've also added the author and date of the article to the citation. —Bruce1eetalk 21:45, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for this. Pubisher was at that time "Gannett Government Media Corporation"?--Sanandros (talk) 04:59, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Sanandros: Do you still need the original article, or is the forum copy sufficient? —Bruce1eetalk 06:19, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The forum is enough, thy. But I just wanted to know if the publisher is correct.--Sanandros (talk) 15:01, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Sanandros: According to the Gannett Government Media Corporation at Open Corporates, they were active from 1991 to 2014, but reading Army Times, it's not completely clear who the publisher was in 2007. —Bruce1eetalk 15:42, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ok thx, I think that's enaough. If not then I'll ask again.--Sanandros (talk) 19:51, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I need a version of the book Fundamentalism: Perspectives on a Contested History with page numbers edit

[1]

For Biblical criticism

This book is available on both Google books and Amazon, but neither have any page numbers. It's an excellent book with good material I would like to use, but I can't without pages. If there is some other source for books I am unaware of, I would greatly revere your expertise in finding me a copy with page numbers. Thank you, thank you, and more

Thanks,
