The 2014 Major League Baseball All-Star Game took place at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with the American League defeating the National League by a 5–3 score. Mike Trout, who hit a triple, driving in Derek Jeter in his last All-Star appearance, and a double, driving in the eventual game-winning run, was named the All-Star MVP.

Yet another quiet month on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Baseball, with only one discussion thread exceeding three posts: how should a range of two consecutive years be written? (So far, most people have agreed with the style advice for player articles, specifying that an en-dash be used between the two years.) There was one article promoted in status: List of Major League Baseball players with unidentified given names, brought to Featured List status by Seattle. Thanks very much to everyone who helped improve this list article.
As the MLB season enters August, where pretenders fade away and the final stages of the pennant races start to take shape, perhaps you can spare some of your leisure time and work an article or two of interest to you. All contributions, big or small, that improve Wikipedia are welcome!

Sixty-seven Major League Baseball pitchers have struck out four batters in one inning. Under Rules 6.05 and 6.09 of the Official Rules of Major League Baseball, a batter becomes a runner when a third strike is not caught by the catcher and there is no runner on first base or there are two outs. The strikeout is recorded, but the batter (now a runner) must be tagged or forced out at first in order for the defensive team to register the out. In this case, it is possible for a pitcher to record more than three strikeouts in an inning. Two players—Chuck Finley and A. J. Burnett—have performed this more than once in their career. No player has ever struck out more than four batters in an inning.
Promoted almost one year ago, the list is a part of the 216 featured lists under WikiProject Baseball's scope. Lists provide baseball editors the opportunity to explain the statistical anomalies of the game in detail, within the context of each occurrence. Comments on featured list candidates are always appreciated, and upkeep of promoted material, though often overlooked, maintains the high standard of quality that both Wikipedia and WikiProject Baseball expect from featured works.
