2015 opening day edition edit

Time for the opening day edition is coming up fast: is there any interested contributors? Please write a short reply if you are planning to submit something. isaacl (talk) 01:46, 2 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Due to a lack of content, the opening day edition is delayed. Contributors are encouraged to submit something to the draft newsletter that can provide an interesting diversion to project members and prospective members! isaacl (talk) 13:55, 5 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Next issue? edit

Does anyone have plans to write something for the newsletter? If project participants would rather focus on article writing, that's great! Just would like to know if there is still any interest. At one point, I had thought the newsletter could have a rolling schedule, released whenever enough content is accumulated, but based on the last year, it seems deadlines are needed to prompt submissions. Thus if everyone is otherwise occupied, the newsletter can go on hiatus for now. What are your thoughts? isaacl (talk) 14:29, 13 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hey Isaac, my suggestion would be that we dial it back to a quarterly issue, so publish the next one around the All-Star break, which would make our other ones roughly at the WS, Winter Meetings, and Opening Day. That should be enough to keep people apprised, without it becoming burdensome? Go Phightins! 21:46, 13 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
I don't mind setting less frequent release dates, but it would be nice to get some indication that there is interest in continuing. At present the number of prospective contributors seems to be below viable levels. isaacl (talk) 04:00, 14 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
My main issue with this newsletter remains the narrow subscriber base.. we're basically making the issue for ourselves..which doesn't seem to serve a real purpose. Spanneraol (talk) 05:27, 14 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
For whatever reason, many readers seem not to be subscribing—maybe they're happy enough following the link from the project talk page. More to the point, no one comments on the newsletter in any way, or seems to use it for outreach. Like I said when the newsletter was initiated, as long as there's interest in producing one, I will be happy to edit it, but if project members would rather do something else, that's fine, too. isaacl (talk) 01:54, 20 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
I don't have a problem with quartley reports, especially for articles waiting for reviews, as it seems we're writing to ourselves. It's a good way to centralize what articles need reviews, and to show progress we've made over the past three months. I think its focus should shift from a recruitment tool towards centralization and recognition. Seattle (talk) 03:51, 20 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
For articles awaiting reviews, I think it would be better to have a regularly updated list: perhaps directly on the project page (such as is done in the Ice Hockey project), on Portal:Baseball/Contribute (the target for "Requested articles and todo" in the project sidebar), or under Wikipedia:WikiProject Baseball/Assessment#Requesting an assessment or reassessment.
Regarding the newsletter focus, it can be whatever those interested in contributing want it to be (though I'd probably look for someone else to take over editing duties should it take a direction that is less interesting to me). The sections for project updates have remained conspicuously empty issue after issue, but by all means if someone wants to start providing progress reports, please step forward! (Note the formality of a newsletter isn't really needed if this is an impediment to anyone; we just need committed persons willing to publish regular reports on the project talk page.) isaacl (talk) 04:43, 20 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thanks to everyone for their participation in this initiative. If anyone wishes to contribute to a new issue, please start a discussion thread, and a release date can be scheduled. Happy editing! isaacl (talk) 04:48, 8 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
