December 17 edit

08:28:32, 17 December 2020 review of submission by DerCed edit

I have created a draft Draft:Spiritbox on October 6, 2020. It was declined, then I made changes and re-submitted it for approval. Suddenly, on December 17th, another Wikipedian just straight out publishes Spiritbox, disregarding my draft. This is really frustrating, how can that be? What should I do next time? Skip the draft phase altogether? :'(

DerCed We have no control over whether any of the other 7 billion people on this planet decide to write an article about the same topic that you decided to write one about. No one has exclusive rights to write about any subject. 331dot (talk) 09:40, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
331dot No no, that's not what I mean. I was surprised to see someone directly creating a page instead of a draft. I was operating under the assumption that one has first create a draft for a new article. Should I just create the page directly next time? Why is there a draft system in the first place then? DerCed (talk) 14:14, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
DerCed There is no requirement to create a new article as a draft first. If one is confident that what they write will survive an Articles for Deletion discussion, and are not concerned with getting other eyes on it beforehand, they may directly create it(assuming they are autoconfirmed). 331dot (talk) 14:24, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
331dot I understand now, thanks for elaborating! DerCed (talk) 14:49, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@DerCed: Just to clarify a point: the draft you created was declined on the basis that it did not adequately establish the subject's notability. Since we don't want articles in live space where notability has not adequately been established, the answer to your question is no, you should probably not create the article directly next time. Unless, as 331dot said, you are sure the notability criteria have been met. Since you are relatively inexperienced in matters related to our notability criteria, I'd probably still recommend drafting for a while. 11:42:39, 17 December 2020 review of submission by CesareBrizio edit

Is there a wikipedia policy in force, against articles about people who died under 36 years of age, or against subjects with shorter lifespans in general?

I recently submitted the draft of an article about the legendary test pilot Edwin Foresman Schoch, died in 1951 on his 35 birthday.

The subject meets the requirements for notability, and my draft cites 28 references, and includes a military person infobox, and a wikitable with his three military honors.

A google search for "Edwin Schoch" "Test Pilot" returns 230 references.

The submission was declined, and I can't understand why Wikipedia accepted SHORTER articles about test pilots such as the following (but I could cite several more...):

  • J. F. Coleman, dead at 95 years of age - article made of a few lines and just three references cited - no military honors, just one famous plane tested
  • Hubert Broad, dead at 78 years of age - article much shorter than my draft, eight references cited, two honors, very few famous airplanes tested
  • Alvin M. Johnston, died at 84 years of age - article similar to my draft, nine references cited, one honor

while my fully developed draft about a pilot who tested several important planes and deserved three military honors is declined.

Why the shorter articles about less renowned test pilots were deemed acceptable, while my submission was declined?

Is it just because Ed Schoch life and career were shorter?

Thank you for your advice.

18:15:30, 17 December 2020 review of submission by Tmreborn edit

Hello, I totally understand why you may have declined my submission last time, I apologize for my lack of experience and use of sources! I understand why he may not have been "notable". I added a few more sources and cleaned the article up a bit. He is mentioned in Yahoo Entertainment article for the 2015 Grammy nominations. Also he is quoted and has a small feature in a Rolling Stone Magazine article on Mariah Carey from 2018. Please let me know if that is sufficient! Thank you! -T Tmreborn (talk) 18:15, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I would like to understand why the article "ScoutCam" was not approved so that I could resubmit it for review. ScoutCam (talk) 19:37, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Because your draft was unambiguous advertising or promotion and now you have been blocked. Theroadislong (talk) 19:41, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings, Help desk! I am asking, how does one add a tag to a draft page? Thanks.
