Request on 02:17:18, 27 January 2018 for assistance on AfC submission by OrangeDome

edit

I'm still unclear as to why the following is considered unacceptable:

User:OrangeDome/sandbox

@1997kB said "Wikipedia requires significant coverage (not just mere mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject" but everything (other than someone reviewing the magazine) will be in the form of someone mentioning that a place was highlighted in the magazine or a person or event was featured in a specific issue. This I think is the gist of all mentions/referenced made about the magazine online. If someone can clarify a bit further, that will be helpful, going forward because as I see it, the references I provided appeared to be similar to most of the other types of references I see on Wikipedia.

Thank you very much for your assistance and clarification. OrangeDome (talk) 02:17, 27 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi OrangeDome. Please don't paste the contents of your draft here, a link is sufficient. In general, a topic is notable (suitable for inclusion) if it has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject. Media mentioning that something was featured in a magazine is not significant coverage of the magazine. An example of a magazine that meets the general notability criteria is Portland Monthly.
It is difficult for magazines to meet the general notability standard because media outlets tend not to cover competing media in depth. So there is a more inclusive notability guideline for media. A magazine is presumed notable if it meets at least one of the following criteria:
  1. has produced award winning work (Mélange has not.)
  2. has served some sort of historic purpose or has a significant history (Mélange is 2(?) years old.)
  3. is considered by reliable sources to be authoritative in their subject area (There is no evidence that Mélange is.)
  4. is frequently cited by other reliable sources (Mélange is not.)
  5. is a significant publication in ethnic or other non-trivial niche markets (This has typically been understood to mean publications by and for a minority community. Examples include African-American newspapers, Jewish magazines, and LGBT publications. It is unlikely that you would be able to make the case that a Caribbean travel and lifestyle magazine fits this criterion.)
Mélange does not appear to be a suitable topic for an encyclopedia article. Wikipedia is not for advertising, promotion, or public relations. --Worldbruce (talk) 06:34, 27 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Worldbruce. Your explanation is very clear and was professionally delivered. Understood. Will be guided accordingly, going forward OrangeDome (talk) 19:59, 27 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Amit Kumar Bisoyi (talk) 03:34, 27 January 2018 (UTC) Sir I want to creat a page of my school how can i do[reply]

Hi Amit Kumar Bisoyi. See Wikipedia:Your first article and Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools/Article guidelines. Most people find it easier to improve existing articles for a while before trying to create a new one. If you are interested in writing about schools in Odisha, all of the articles in Category:Schools in Odisha need improvements to bring them into line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. --Worldbruce (talk) 06:49, 27 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have created my first draft article named Sufi Ghullam Mustafa Zardari and left it for review. After sometime I got a message on my talk page that my draft has been reviewed and is declined. Then what should I do now? How may I request to submit it for Wikipedia?

Qasim Mustafa Jatoi (talk) 08:55, 27 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Qasim Mustafa Jatoi. All Wikipedia articles must strive for verifiable accuracy, citing reliable, published sources, and the bulk of an article should come from sources that are independent of the subject. Content is not based on editors' personal experience or knowledge. Even if you're sure something is true, it must be verifiable before you can add it. The draft cites no sources, and I could find no reliable sources about Zardari, so he does not appear to be suitable for inclusion in an encyclopedia. See Wikipedia:No amount of editing can overcome a lack of notability. --Worldbruce (talk) 15:12, 27 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

How can I make the infobox on Draft:Binary Tiling look more like other infoboxes for tilings, like the Truncated order-7 triangular tiling article? I looked at the source, but I had trouble figuring out how the template works.

Also, I added the

template, but it didn't add it doesn't list the Geometry stubs category at the bottom. Any idea why that is? (I could manually add it to the Geometry stubs category, but it would be better if the template did that.)

TheKing44 (talk) 21:24, 27 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi TheKing44 such categories and templates should not be added to drafts, they should only be used in mainspace articles. A Draft cannot be a Stub at the same time. "Stub" is the classification for a very short article, but a draft is by definition not yet an article. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 16:46, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
