January 9 edit

03:26:57, 9 January 2015 review of submission by Mdrake3 edit

Greetings! I was just wondering what is going on with the Draft: George_Brooks_Jeweler page I thought I had created. I can't tell if it is currently pending review or if it is about to be deleted because I haven't touched it in 6 months (I received a message from HausterBot stating this was the case). Someone other than myself has gone in and completely changed the page (for the better!). I am so confused, please help!

Thank you!

Mila

Hello Mila, I have published your draft since you met WP requirements by demonstrating that Brooks has been the subject of serious professional coverage, meeting WP:Notability. So now the page is live and good to go. If you happen to have any photos that you personally hold the copyright to (you took yourself) of Brooks, those would be great to add.
Nice work, and if you want to see who and how they improved your article, click the "History" tab at the top of the article, which will show all edits made to the page. So you can go to Mabalu's page and thank them for their help if you like. Thanks for your contribution, and I hope you'll stick around now that you see how an article is organized and sourced to pass through review smoothly! Thank you so much! I'm working of the photo part.

I had written this submission to be listed as "Camille (vocalist)", however my current draft title somehow got changed to "Camille Filfiley", but not by me. (Perhaps it's based on first 2 words of text?). Wikipedia already has an existing listing for "Camille (singer)" for someone else, however the person I'm submitting is equally known by just her first name, and her use of the single name "Camille" was established years before the other person. The text and discography in my submission make this clear. I'm hoping that "Camille (vocalist)" and "Camille (singer)" can exist on Wiki as two separate pages. If not, perhaps you can suggest another term besides "(vocalist)" that I can use so that my submission remains just "Camille" with no last name. Just wanted to clarify this... thanks. @Rsooch: I wouldn't worry about this. We have arguments on Wikipedia when these sorts of situations crop up. I don't think vocalist is any better disambiguator than singer. If your draft is accepted you can then start a discussion at Talk:Camille (singer) to ask which article should be where. We (Wikipedia) will go with the consensus. There are other noticeboards you could appeal to, if needed. But at this point, you need to worry about your draft, not the title. Chris Troutman (talk) 21:49, 10 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I received the following message...This submission's references do not adequately evidence the subject's notability—see the general guideline on notability and the golden rule. Please improve the submission's referencing, so that the information is verifiable, and there is clear evidence of why the subject is notable and worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia.

So I went and got the citations directly from the USPTO website for the patent information. I tried to keep it simple and direct explaining only what the patents were issued for. I'm not sure why the reference would be in question since the USPTO is a pretty reliable and non-biased source. Any guidance you can give would be great. Thanks for your help.

There are two reasons that articles need references: notability and verifiability. In order to show notability, you must cite significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject of the article. Since the patent on the USPTO website was written by the inventor, it is not considered an independent source. While it is reliable for verifying facts in the article, it doesn't show the subject's notability. --Ahecht (TALK

19:17:58, 9 January 2015 review of submission by Slow zoom edit

Hi! I recently created my first entry and have 2 things I'd like to improve but don't know how (the wiki / tutorial doesn't seem to get me there): This is the article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/She%27s_Lost_Control_%28film%29 1) On the "Accolades" section, the "2015" part of the table is stuck in the wrong columns. I've tried a couple of things but can't seem to figure out how to correct it. 2) I'd like to link to the film's poster which is copyrighted but published online. How do I do this? Do I upload the image? Do I link to the source website? I'd like for it to appear in the right-hand text box. Thanks!

Slow zoom (talk) 19:17, 9 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Slow zoom: Now that your article has been accepted you should future direct questions like this to the general help desk at WP:Help Desk.
I fixed the table for you. The "rowspan" on the 2014 cell was set too high.
In order to have the poster image appear you'd have to upload it here. Upload a low-resolution version of the poster using the Wikipedia:File Upload Wizard and fill out the appropriate information. When you get to Step 3, select "This is a copyrighted, non-free work, but I believe it is Fair Use." Fill in the article title and under the rationale select "This is the official cover art of a work" and then select "Movie poster" under "Which of these options describes this item best?". Make sure to fill out all the requested information or your file may be deleted (Wikipedia tends to be picky on how copyrighted images can be used). --Ahecht (TALK

Cafezz Music (talk) 22:11, 9 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi!! I try ti cite a web article and the Check date values in: |accessdate= (help) appears. I check the dates and are correct. Don't know whats wrong. Im writing in MM/DD/YYYY format but I have edited them in all formats and keep getting the error. Thanks!Cafezz Music (talk) 22:11, 9 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there @Cafezz Music: Dates need to follow one of the accepted formats at MOS:YEAR. For example, instead of 01/09/2015, you could use 9 January 2015. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 06:03, 10 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
