Propose merging Template:Sonic the Hedgehog characters with Template:Sonic the Hedgehog.
This navbox only contains six characters, which doesn't seem large enough to warrant a separate navbox. It can easily be slotted into the main series navbox (Most likely in the "Related" section under its own category) Has one ever considered Magneton?     While I was unaware of these prior debates, I've taken a look at them and don't quite understand the rationale. The Sonic the Hedgehog navbox is nowhere near bloated in size to justify a separate navbox split, and keeping them split seems like it would be worse to navigate overall. I would understand if, say, we were merging a significant number of articles, but only six? That fits comfortably in there without overly cluttering the navbox. The other rationale that "the infobox will only get bigger" is a bit of a silly one as well. Yes, of course the box will get bigger, but so will nearly every franchise under the sun, and many other franchises like Super Mario and Metal Gear keep their characters in the same navbox as the series navbox and still work just fine. The decision to split just seems like a navigational annoyance more than it does a useful size split. Has one ever considered Magneton? Pokelego999 (talk) 23:28, 11 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    We're constantly trimming things off the main Sonic template to keep it from being overwhelming. It doesn't need another six items (or more, because people are constantly trying to spin out more character articles.) . Weve got a future-proof set up, and we've come to a consensus on this twice in the last year or so, and this proposal doesn't present a new argument.     If you really think it needs trimming, then how about removing articles like multi-franchise video games or guest appearances such as Lego Dimensions or Super Monkey Ball , etc., rather than actual directly related articles? --woodensuperman 11:59, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    I didn't say it needs trimming, I'm saying it's constantly being trimmed to keep it a manageable size. Those titles are directly related because they feature Sonic as a playable character in them. Sergecross73 msg me 14:05, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    Not as directly related as the actual playable character Sonic the Hedgehog (character) who doesn't even appear in the navbox {{Sonic the Hedgehog}}! Also a serious discussion needs to be had about all these crossover games, as their inclusion in every single navbox is getting rather ridiculous.   • Comment. I was the person who proposed the merge in June 10, 2023. And I'm not sure if I can vote here again. My rationale is still the same. That the current split state of the templates are done poorly. It complicated the navigation by an extra click or two, and yet, except for the "games" template, I see no other Sonic templates have the potential of expansion.     P.S. I've mentioned that Template:Sonic the Hedgehog characters was a poorly done template. If the navbox can be expanded to cover everything about Sonic "universe", than I would be fine with the split. Or if there were dozens of characters each with their own Wikipedia article, then a split navbox would be good as well. If the characters' wikilinks can fit just one line of the box, then the split would be not okay.
    As for the "stupid number of navboxes in the Super Smash Bros. page", how about this: Include the list of universes/IPs in the Template:Super Smash Bros. and remove the "game series/IPs" navboxes from the main Super Smash Bros. article? That would clean the page up. (Smash is only loosely connected to the said game series/IPs. While the game series navboxes can include Smash as a "related game" link, the link can be one way to guide readers out and not need to guide them back in.)
