R32/R42 replacement edit

Are the R32/R42 going to be replaced as soon as the R179 comes out(2013/2014)? Or is the MTA going to keep them until late 2014 or 2015? 12.50.69.217 (talk) 02:03, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A little more detail or context PLEASE! HiLo48 (talk) 02:18, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Geolocating the OP's IP suggests that the "MTA" in the query refers to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (New York), with "R32/R42" being R32 (New York City Subway car) and R42 (New York City Subway car). Deor (talk) 02:31, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) In the US, MTA often stands of Metropolitan Transit Authority. A quick search for <R179 MTA> yields a number of results about the New York City transit system. Dismas|(talk) 02:32, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
And we have an article R179 (New York City Subway car). Deor (talk) 02:34, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Glad this was clarified, since I thought they were asking about refrigerants, like R32 (difluoromethane), being replaced because the old ones are bad for the ozone layer. StuRat (talk) 05:12, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about that. I was just wondering if R32s or the R42s will be kept a little longer after the R179 enters service. For example, the R40/R40As, the R38s, or the R44s. The R179 article doesn't really say anything about when it will enter service. 161.130.178.135 (talk) 02:12, 30 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

wikipedia usernames... edit

i've noticed that some wikipedia usernames have various other effects on them... such as mirror imaging, flipping, and coloring various areas of text... how the heck do you do that? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.241.26.57 (talk) 02:31, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

See WP:CUSTOMSIG. Dismas|(talk) 02:42, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Where can I find guides/directories/whatever on the code for that stuff? Is it all just one code? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.241.26.57 (talk) 04:34, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the page I provided a link to has some examples. And you can get some more ideas from Wikipedia:Advanced text formatting. I don't know of anything that deals specifically with signatures since they aren't different from any other text here. I should probably point out that anonymous IP editors such as yourself can't change their signature (which you haven't been using anyway). Only registered users can change their signatures. Dismas|(talk) 05:00, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That's not entirely true 82.43.89.63 talk 16:50, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm... Dismas|(talk) 03:22, 25 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
There is no "preferences" tab when logged out. However, it wouldn't be difficult to fiddle with the computed signature to make it appear "decorated". ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 04:38, 25 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If you see a signature you like you can edit the section it is in and view the mark up needed to get it that way. If you copy someone elses make sure you don't leave a link to them instead of you! Graeme Bartlett (talk) 20:59, 25 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Any user, IP or not, could keep the code for their signature in a notepad file or something, and instead of using 4 tildes, they could paste it in (including 5 tildes at the end to pick up just the date and not the user ID) in order to simulate a signature. User boxes edit

what are those "user boxes" I see on people's pages? where do I learn about those? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.241.26.57 (talk) 04:43, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Since your questions aren't quite related to one another, I've broken this one off into its own section. I hope you don't mind. See WP:USERBOX. Dismas|(talk) 04:49, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

ok, thx —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.241.26.57 (talk) 16:39, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What font is this? edit

Is there a free font that looks similar to this? Thanks!! Calliopejen1 (talk) 05:13, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That's very pretty, hand-written, art deco style lettering, of the style of Italian movie posters. The closest match I could find was Mostra (which is not free). Neutraface has similar letter (but lacks that funky S). I doubt there is an exact match, given the hand-lettering of the source. Googling "Free art deco fonts" can turn up many that are in the same spirit, but have somewhat different aesthetics. --Mr.98 (talk) 12:07, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Font ID resources:

They do not generally work even for actual printed fonts; they certainly won't work for hand-lettered fonts. It's becoming my personal pet peeve whenever people ask for fonts and people blindly post those two nearly entirely useless sites. (My second pet peeve is when people say, "WhatTheFont gave me 'Comic Sans' as the answer, I guess that must be what it is" without applying any common sense.) This is useless and would only be a waste of the OP's time. It's a waste even when it is actually a font file that presumably could be in their database; it's surely a waste when it's a hand-lettered font from 80 years ago! --Mr.98 (talk) 02:20, 25 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the help! Those aren't quite as pretty as the original, but they might do. :) Calliopejen1 (talk) 14:14, 25 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

question on maine high school sports edit

Is a HS varsity player able to play in a JV game? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.75.79.117 (talk) 15:00, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not 100% sure, but when my brother was playing varsity football in New Hampshire he was able to play in a JV game as long as he didn't play in the varsity game that week, if I'm remembering correctly. Qrsdogg (talk) 22:52, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

How much would it cost to live in Sluseholmen? edit

How much would it cost to live in Sluseholmen Canal District, Copenhagen, Denmark? I saw the area when I visited Copenhagen in last July, and it looked like it was meant for the really, really rich people, like Kimi Räikkönen, who is younger than me and earns far more from a single race than I earn in several years. Is my impression correct, or how expensive are the apartments in Slusleholmen? What sort of people live there? JIP | Talk 18:14, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It is definitely in the more expensive area, but it does have several blocks of what can be termed Danish ecquivalents of council houses with flats of 1-5 rooms in the 8.800-11,200 Danish Kroner (1180-1500 EURO) monthly rent range. If you want to buy a flat they range from 3.000.000 DKR (402000 EUR) in the Metropolis building, apparently the landmark of Sluseholmen. I gather the most expensive apartments in that building is in the "if you have to ask the price you can't afford it" category, since they don't mention the maximum prices. --Saddhiyama (talk) 18:37, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The rent you mention for the rental apartments is only about twice as much as my current rent, and I live in central Helsinki. I'd guess the actual apartments are much better than my own apartment too. So therefore it doesn't sound so extraordinarily expensive, just common for expensive districts in capital cities. JIP | Talk 18:42, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I gathered as well from my research (not being terribly familiar with that part of Copenhagen). It seems there are a lot of council housing projects in the area, so it must have been a deliberate decision to make the area accessible to a more varied population segment than just the über-rich. Although there are undoubtedly some projects for them as well. --Saddhiyama (talk) 18:49, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
