The Graphics Lab is a project to improve the graphical content of the Wikimedia projects. Requests for image improvements can be added to the workshop pages: Illustrations, Photographs and Maps. For questions or suggestions one can use the talk pages: Talk:Graphics Lab, Talk:Illustrations, Talk:Photographs and Talk:Maps.
This specific page is the requests page for the photography workshop. Anyone can make a request for a photograph to be improved for a Wikipedia article. The standard format for making a request is shown below, along with general advice, and should be followed.

Advice to requesters

All requests:

  • Please make sure your request is "legitimate" by copyright. If the image(s) are in the public domain or freely licensed, you are fine. If the image(s) are "Fair use", there are only certain things we can do with them without falling afoul of Wikipedia's fair-use policies.
    • If you are requesting assistance with a copyright or fair-use image, don't display it on this page; place {{GLNF|Example.png|caption|align=left}} to create a link to it. Do not add the File: extension. Our fair-use policy does not allow displaying fair-use images out of their articles on ANY account.
  • Please check back regularly to see if progress has been made or if any additional questions need to be answered before the request can be completed.
  • If a request is done to your satisfaction, please mark it with {{resolved}}.

SVG requests:

  • Make sure your request can actually BE vectorized. Note that vector drawings are not suitable for certain applications. We generally use SVG format for icons, logos, drawings, maps, flags, and such. Certain things, photographs especially, are totally impossible to vectorize.
  • Per our non-free content policy, vectorization of copyrighted images is not permitted. If a vectorized non-free image is desired, seek out such an image from the copyright holder.

Could you please remove the black frame from this painting? Thank you! -- Vinícius O. (talk) 17:24, 26 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

  Not done @Vinícius94: This is a very, very large file. To process it, a computer with a large operating memory and computing power is required. The task exceeds the capabilities of commonly used computers. PawełMM (talk) 10:02, 3 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

@PawełMM: Yeah, that makes sense. Vinícius O. (talk) 19:24, 3 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

  Doing... It opened and cropped in seconds in Photoshop on my MacPro with 20GB ram. Photoshop is optimized for very large images. I'll upload soon. Zerotalk 04:21, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

  Done To editor Vinícius94: I am unable to upload the cropped image on top of the old one. Even though there is a 5GB limit on copies from a select list of web sites (which is where this file came from), the limit for ordinary uploads is 100MB. This original file is 287MB and the cropped version is 205MB. Rather than overwriting the file with a reduced-res version, I created a new image at File:The Night Watch - cropped.jpg at half the resolution. It is still pretty big as far as Commons images go (28,302 × 23,662 pixels) and I have no objection if someone wants to load it on top of File:The Night Watch - HD.jpg.
