Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Askia Muhammad I. Your edits appear to constitute vandalism and have been reverted. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. Repeated vandalism may result in the loss of editing privileges. Thank you. Roundishtc) 23:25, 12 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I'm Austronesier. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Nilo-Saharan languages, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Austronesier (talk) 16:23, 19 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Please do not add or change content, as you did at Songhai people‎, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. You say have sources at your disposal, yet you continue to add text without sources? Austronesier (talk) 17:15, 19 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Your recent editing history shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war; read about how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.   Hello, I noticed that you may have recently made edits while logged out. Wikipedia's policy on multiple accounts usually does not allow the use of both an account and an IP address by the same person in the same setting and doing so may result in your account being blocked from editing. Additionally, making edits while logged out reveals your IP address, which may allow others to determine your location and identity. If this was not your intention, please remember to log in when editing. Thank you. Austronesier (talk) 17:43, 20 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Welcome! edit

Hello, Zahamey, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of your recent edits to the page Songhai people did not conform to Wikipedia's verifiability policy, and may have been removed. Content must be verifiable edit

Content added to Wikipedia needs to be wp:verifiable. People now or in the future may want to find more information on a topic or to check if it is correct. Without this policy, the article might read that the Songhai people live on the International Space Station. You need to wp:cite a wp:reliable source for your entries. Use of one's own knowledge is not verifiable and is classified as wp:original research. Your edits have been saved in the wp:page history. If you restore your content, it must be cited before you click on the "Publish changes" button. You can verify that your edits are correct by clicking on wp:Show preview. wp:Show changes will show you what edits you have made. If you don't add citations, you may be blocked from editing Thank you Adakiko (talk) 11:30, 14 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thank you I'm new to this topic And I'm having trouble handling certain futures such as adding Sources I'm have them I don't know how to do it So I told myself to finish the additions first then find out how to put the sources and then put them The songhai people page is poor in information and several things concerning the songhai have been badly said, and our history is also stolen from us, like the emperor Askya Mohammed who has been classified as soninke for example I need a bit of coaching so I wouldn't refuse help I am a French speaker. The information I wrote was not wrong. Zahamey (talk) 14:22, 14 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Songhai People edit

Hello Friend! Welcome to Wikipedia! I came across the Songhai People article that you have been working on. One thing that I believe would tremendously help is if you could add a citation after each punctuation mark. Just click the "cite" button at the top of your editor screen and you can easily generate citations. Please keep in mind WP:COI when you are contributing to articles that you have a personal connection to. Regards, ShaveKongo (talk) 15:38, 18 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Zahamey I noticed you are using the mobile editor. This is a bit more tricky than the visual editor that I use! You will need to review WP:Markup for a breakdown on wikitext ShaveKongo (talk) 15:49, 18 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Your editing is problematic edit

Whether or not Askia Mohammad I is of the Soninke people is disputed. That he is Soninke appears to be more supported than not. Do you have a source supporting the latter? You need to discuss this on talk:Soninke people and get wp:consensus before replacing. Please don't wp:Edit war. Your edit here changed Sadio Gassama, from the singular "Malian politician" to the plural "Malian politicians". Why is one man two politicians? A superfluous asterisk " * " was left. Please be more careful with your edits.

two edits&oldid= to Songhai people are mostly unsourced. You did add one source, so you appear to know how to add them. See help:referencing for beginners - this is required reading. You now should know how to add citations and you have no excuse not to. If you can not find a source, please don't add that content. You did not capitalize proper nouns - example: Niger River (the R in river was not capped) "sonhay ganda", "ayneha ganda". If it is a formal name of a place, it would be a proper name and should be capped. Your addition of these and other "* kogori", "* Namari", "* Fakara", and others were not properly indented resulting in malformed text. Please check your edits with wp:Show preview before clicking "Publish changes".

There are many more issues with your editing which I won't bring up here.

As your edits are repeatedly problematic and you seem to not showing any improvement, you may find a discussion started on wp:Administrators Noticeboard/Incidents (ANI). This would be the next step to getting you wp:blocked. Adakiko (talk) 22:15, 19 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Askia Muhammad was born in Gao. His father, Baru Lum,[a] was of Toucouleur or Soninke ancestry, with ancestors hailing from the Senegal River valley.[b] His mother was named Kassey[c] and is said in oral tradition to have been the sister of Sonni Ali.[8] Zahamey (talk) 14:23, 20 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

The main factions of the Songhai are the "Si Hamey" and the "Mamar Hamey". The Si Hamey (meaning: descendants of Sonni), as the name implies, are the descendants and partisans of the Sonnis, while the "Mamar Hamey" are the descendants and partisans of Askia Mohammad I whose vernacular name among the Songhai is "Mamar".[9][10] It is also worth noting that both groups use the title surname "Maiga" (meaning, "King or Prince").[11] Zahamey (talk) 14:30, 20 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia and copyright edit

Hello Zahamey! Your additions to Songhai people have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. Austronesier (talk) 14:44, 21 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Let’s Collaborate edit

Dear Zaa Hamey,

I hope this message finds you well. I noticed that you have made several contributions to the Songhai history pages on Wikipedia and I wanted to reach out to you to discuss further. As someone who is also of Songhai heritage, I am deeply concerned about the accuracy of the information presented on these pages. I have made some corrections and added new pages, but I believe that together we can do even more to ensure that the history of the Songhai people is accurately represented.

Would you be interested in collaborating with me online to discuss and address any misinformation or gaps in the current Songhai history pages? I believe that with your in-depth knowledge of the subject, we can work together to make a positive impact on the accuracy and representation of our shared heritage.

Thank you for your time and I hope to hear back from you soon. You can alternatively send me an email (dawudibrahim100@gmail.com)

good evening ,. I don't actually understand why I was blocked, if you think that some of the sources are taken from oral tradition, however, you will not refuse that they are still sources. the majority of what I edited is verifiable, you can check on the sources I put. you decided to block me for lack of source without taking into account the writings with credible sources. you even don't edit on the Songhai pages which I found very vague compared to the other pages, I just tried to make my contribution not to wage an editing war. you disregarded but attempt to explain to austronesier and adakiko that i am in no way here to offend anyone. I consider the sentence cruel compared to the error cordially. Zahamey (talk) 15:32, 16 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

the reason for my blocking quote is the addition of writing as guimey bani koy responsible for the port while I had to quote the source of the information which is http://www.ankhonline.com/civilisations_africaines/civilisations_africaines_songhai.htm. my blocking was done based only on vague sources without taking into consideration others written with proven sources. I found the final decision to block me from wikipedia cruel in relation to the error of which I am accused

Hi Zahamey, thanks for providing some sources that you would like to use in the article. Before you are unblocked, I need to be convinced that you understand how to source content correctly on Wikipedia, and that what you are adding to an article is verified in the source that you cite. In an edit below, please pick an article that you would like to edit, and give an example of a short edit (one sentence will suffice) of something that you would add to the article. Ensure that you include the sourcing information (so that an editor can verify the information). Feel free to ping me if you have any questions. Z1720 (talk) 19:19, 14 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
