Featured picture? I'm not sure. It may have a shot, but I can also imagine comments along the lines of "you can barely see the building itself". Which could then be answered in the vein of "yes, but a railway is more than just the building, this illustrates the rails that came from Belgium and the locomotives that came from X, etc.". Re. Admin IRC

Hi there Ynhockey - hope you're well! I've just checked the access list for the admins channel and you're still on it so I'll run through how to get in. What you need to do is start up IRC and identify (/msg NickServ identify PASSWORD) and then to get into the admins channel, you need to type " /msg chanserv invite #wikipedia-en-admins". In response to your last note on Ryans talk page, you won't have to invite yourself if you get a "cloak". Wikipedia cloaks can be issued if you fill out the form at this page (this will take a while to be issued). Yes, you are right on beth shemesh, I thought it was official data. Anyway, I am particularly fond of demographics and geography, that's the reason why I would like to contribute as much as possible in that field especially on France and Israel.

I have just signed in yesterday so as you can see, I am not that used to anything related to Wikipedia. Just to introduce myself, my mother tongue in french (I am from Paris), I have very close relatives living in Israel.

I have just started an article on Tamar gas field (called: tamar 2) that is being drilled near Haifa - in french. I think I am going to translate it in english when my time would allow it. Of course as it is my "first" article, this is far from being perfect and as it looks like you wrote many articles on wikipedia, please feel free to help me... I can be wrong but I have the impression that there is no energy section on Israel and it could be of interest as this sector could be expanding quite fast (like project better place, project of turning coal plant into gas plant etc.). Your accuastion that i have been replacing the term 'neighborhood' with the term settlement is completely unfounded. I have in fact been ensuring that both the terms are used in conjunction with wikipedias NPOV policy while explaining the position of both positions. Given that the edits i am making only reflect both the Israeli POV and the International POV, aswell as the consensus established on the Centralized discussion page, i hardly think, as Tiamut has also pointed out to you that I am making 'controversial' edits. I was not aware of any relevant bodies that i had to inform so if you could please let me know which ones you want to me inform in future I will be happy to do so. Given that my edits reflect both sides of this argument, and that the IP address i am apparently 'edit waring' withs edits only reflect a nationalist POV, strictly against wikipedia policy, i think I am in fact doing wikipedia a service to ensure its NPOV policy and ensure both sides have their views told. I am also unsure of how else to go about having these edits -- in serious violation of wikipedia policy, in any other way reverted or reviewed. Lastly, i have never heard or to my knowledge remember seeing an edit by a user named Chesdovi. It was the random IP address that i implied MAY be operating as a sockpupet, but i never intended to imply they were doing so intentionally. Further, how is such an implication any different from what is effectively an outright alligation in requesting a check for that? Yeruham

Thanks for the concern but I only removed that article because it sheds a negative light on Yeruham-and don't think that it belongs on the wikipedia site about the city. I have also tried to add two relevant videos about Yeruham to the site(which are both on youtube), and I have permission from the makers to post, but the bot keeps blocking it- Do you know how I can post them without the bot kicking it off?

I left a this message on his talk page [4] after I went there to tell him to join the discussion about Israeli settlements. I'm disappointed by your the tone of your comments to him and the way you seem to throwing around your admin authority, subtlety implying that he may be subject to sanctions for trying to introduce standard English-language terminology to our articles here. I agree that he should not be edit-warring, but I find your approach with him to be improper. Please consider the effect that your warnings have on editors with less experience than you and avoid coming off as though you are trying to intimidate them into silence in the future. Thanks. Sorry Ynhockey, but that's the way your comments came off to me and I stand by my initial assessment. Colourinthemeaning is not familiar with our policies. He's only edited a few articles here sporadically over the time he's been here. I think the way you talked to him was inappropriate. I think I'm entitled to that opinion as you are entitled to yours about your interpretation of my so-called "advice" to him on how to game the system. I was merely trying to get him to understand that edit-warring can get you blocked. I supported you on that point and the need to avoid sockpuppet allegations. The rest was to me not necessary and subtlely intimidating, and I thought you would be particularly sensitive to that issue given the discussion at Arbcomm. Apparently not though. Two questions

Hi Ynhockey, how are you? I have two questions for you. I hope I haven't been bothering with my questions about architects, and architecture. You seem very knowledgeable with respect to Israel topics, and there is significant overlap in these topics in my interests-- so here I am asking again. I'm slowly working on the Zvi Hecker article, whose work is astonishing, and I've read that his time in the military was spent in the "Corps of Engineers"[5] yet we have an article on the Combat Engineering Corps. I'm not that familiar with military terminology, but I gather that is what is meant and is what I should link to? The other is question is, I wanted to include some information on the architecture of the Chaim Laskov Officer Training School, a project of Hecker, Sharon, and Neumann. I've found this page [6] which discusses it, and I really want to get that part correct so I was wondering if you would be able to add any information to the Zvi Hecker article, using that as a source. Wow, thanks! Could you add what you explained on my talk page to the article too, maybe with a quote? It makes perfect sense to me and fits in very well with some of his other projects that have interior open spaces, on which I can expand later. I was reading about that here [7], (←can this be cited or is it a blog? at any rate it is a very good article) an apartment with a courtyard that in my reading is being compared to the open space at Bahad 1. His use of courtyards is described in another book I have too. The way he compares one building to a whole city, is a recurring theme too that I may expand on. Many thanks Ynhockey! What I've done there is more a sketch than a map. I did it in half an hour.

I have no idea of the situation in the Negev. and where exactly the Egyptian units were positionned. And that is the same for what concerns the "border" between Iraqi and Jordanian troops in Samaria.

The "map" is also wrong for the front line between ALA and IDF in East Galilea.

Another question mark concern the southern limit of the Transjordan army...

To draw a good map, we would need one that show all villages and to draw the border line one by one. That will take hours and even days...

For Negev and Judea, I think it is simply impossible for us. We don't have access to the material that would require the localisation of all Egyptian and Palmah units in the Negev but also the areas they patrolled... We need a reference from an historian who would have taken care of that...

Please do add the ruins image. At the moment, the main concern is just to get all reasonable material onto the page -- images, sources, interesting sections. That's because you kept changing the image sizes, as I said on talk. You've reverted my work on those probably a dozen times if not more. Also, there is no need to change the name of the image. I've been doing that -- whenever you slipped in an image-size change with other changes, I have patiently gone back and redone them without reverting your other edits. Palestinian link changes

Greetings. I appreciate you pointing out a potentially inappropriate link and looking at that one again, I agree that Palestine may not have been the best choice but I disagree with it being reverted to Palestinian, I think Palestinian territories would have been better. Here is my thought process: the adjective "Palestinian" in this case is referring to the geographic location, Farradiyya. Farradiyya was depopulated in the 50s so I should have gone with Palestinian territories. In instances of geography I have been disambiguating to Palestinian territories unless the village was depopulated before the 1949 Armistice Agreements then I use Palestine. If there is a flaw in my thinking, which is certainly possible, I would appreciate you straightening me out, lord knows I've been wrong before. There really is no reason to link any pages to Palestinian as it is only a disambiguation page. J04n(talk page) 11:56, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi,
In order to avoid useless work... Do you have a vectorised version (*.svg ?) of your map ? Because I think we need to see Tel-Aviv and the south front line to give a fair picture of the situation. The attack on Lydda and Ramle was an obvious necessity for anybody who could see this map. That would be nice to use this for the article...
If under *svg (inkscape), I can deal with this if you send this to me by email...
Mine is too short for the West (don't see Tel-Aviv) and in any way I have lost this in the crash of my pc :-(.

I think you have confused plagiarism and copyright. From plagiarism:

someone made a redirect on Template_talk:Villages_depopulated_during_the_1948_Arab–Israeli_War, but i removed it. it seems very unreasonable for this template to point to Template:Palestinian_Arab_villages_depopulated_during_the_1948_Palestine_War, but at least the talk page has a link to the Jordanian ethnic cleansing of Judea and Samaria.

which villages? feel free to remove the villages in Judea and Samaria if there remained Jewish residents in 1950, as for the ones behind the ceasefire lines of 1949, if there was a continuous Jewish presence from 1947-1950 then I'll remove them as well. thanks for the speedy reply! thanks for pointing that out - i just made the template from the article List_of_villages_depopulated_during_the_Arab–Israeli_conflict, but i'm checking the section on the War of Independence now. I'll remove any villages founded after the 1949 and add the rest of Gush Etzion to both the article and the template. some of Gush Etzion is in the Judea and Samaria section of the template, so i'm moving those to the Gush Etzion section. I always imagined these projects to be sort of clan like and at times promote meat-puppeting/tag-teaming which can be seen in many I/P articles. But now it is clear a more collaborative approach is necessary and the threat of abuse shouldn't be a deterrent. I went through a spell of editing a bit less, but I think recently I've been back to my usual output. I'm still editing quite a lot - recently been going through List of members of the first Knesset and created a few party articles (Independent Centre etc). I'm also monitoring the AlexArtBot list of new Israel articles. The Knesset member thing is going to take ages though (as I plan to do them all, Knesset by Knesset...). Re: Shin vs. Sin

Shalom, Ynhockey! I received your message and went back to check things out. Sure enough I found that your first revert of my edit indeed changed the first letter back to a Sin. As well, the current forms has the wrong vowels. You currently have a tzareh under the shin, which makes the word pronounced "Shaikma" and not "Shikma". In order to fix this you will need to change the vowel to a chereek under the shin. I hope this helps. Oh, one last thing, the first letter in the Beit is using a Vet and not a Bet. Hey there! I think we just uncovered a browser bug. I use Mozilla Firefox 99% of the time in my browsing but just tried it on the latest Safari. On Firefox 3.0.11 I get the bad Veit Shakmah, but on Safari 4.0.1 it renders correctly. How weird is this!! I used Font Book and looked for both David and Narkisim but they were not present. I do, however, have the Hebrew Internationalization turned on for OS X. I think what we have here is a genuine browser rendering problem. I wonder how it shows up on Firefox for Windows. Perhaps there is anther Hebrew font we can use which will work for all? Basket of Puppies 21:55, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

I do not actually use any other browsers. I use Safari when Firefox fails, but that is pretty uncommon. I think adding this to some sort of documentation and possibly checking the Firefox bugzilla might not be a bad idea. You seem to know more about the fonts and such associated. I'm confused by what criteria you are using to determine high level of importance? If Israel is custodian of one of the holiest places to a world religion, I would certainly think it would merit top importance for that country.
