I'm positive you've been asked this before... edit

...but why have you blanked your userpage? Was the vandalism that bad? Oh, and if you haven't been able to chase up a reason for Bravada's untimely departure, I think - based on his final contribs - that it was due to some issues over his views VS those of others about Polish politics, which seem at the moment to be very nearly a blood sport. Not yet as bad as the Hungarian kind, but certainly heading in that direction. BigHaz - Schreit mich an 11:18, 26 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I haven't looked that carefully, but Bravada didn't explicitly say what the issue was. As far as some clashes between Polish and Russian editors go, on DYK for example, everybody thinks there is a big problem, but these days seeing two guys claiming the other is adding Polish/Soviet "propaganda" doesn't seem that inflammatory to me. Perhaps they should edit religion articles....I wasn't even aware of any Hungarian editors around the place. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 03:08, 27 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
I may have misspoken. Brav's last edits were dealing with a domestic political scandal in Poland (can't think of the woman's name offhand, but she'd recorded one of the high-ups in the current government doing a spot of influence-peddling or something), so he was clashing with another editor or two who held the opposite view on the events. Basically a par-for-the-course political dispute of the kind I'm surprised we don't seem to have had more of with the US mid-term elections coming up (but hey, I'm not an admin, so I don't know how much blood has been spilled there). What I meant about the Hungarian politics was that - in the real world - there are riots and things against their PM, which I don't think has yet happened in Poland. How about changing the content sometimes? The portal has remained almost static.--Dwaipayan (talk) 09:18, 27 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Uh yeah, I just put up the featured content there by default. I haven't implemented a rotation because there seems to be only one set of featured material. Of course, you are welcome to initiate change. Also, I seem to be tied up too much updating WP:DYK and then running through my watchlist, and checking up on too many people who are destined for arbnitration. why did you delete Helensburgh-Stanwell Park Surf Life Saving Club???

Hello. I deleted it because of Sppedy deletion criterion A7 for clubs, as it did not make any claim to being notable at atll. Image:Aaron Peirsol.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Aaron Peirsol.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Trimble edit

I'm well. I have a vague recollection of writting that and getting caught up in this complex web of scenarios in my head and trying to work out who replaced who. I'm sure that it made sense at the time, and I can't recall now how I resolved the statement I made so feel free to revert it ;). I think he may actually have replaced Dave Gilbert who played in the Sydney match the week before (v India) but did not show in the Perth match. It looks like Gilbert came back in after Trimble's 2 matches. Fat Cat also came back so maybe that one match absence just confused me.

Looks like you've got plenty of advice on Sehwag so I won't add to that, but Thorpey's looking good. I'll have a good read of it over the next few days. Kind regards — Moondyne 16:13, 2 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Transliterations at belgaum edit

Hi, Kannada editors are taking disadvantage of 3RR rule at Belgaum. According to them kannada transliteration should come first (in alphabetical order) but it seems not be the rule while deciding the order. See Carnatic_music for instance. Sanskrit has been placed before Kannada. According to me marathi transliteration should be preceed kannada.

There is majority of Maharashtrians in belgaum and opposition to Kannada. Please see this and this to ascertain the majority of Maharashtrians and their 'opposition' to Kannada. Please advice in this matter. I hope u will act in neutral and impartial way.Your verdict will be accepted regardless of outcome. Mahawiki 16:51, 2 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Transliteration on Belgaum page, Mahawiki, et, al. edit

Hi Blnguyen, Please have a look at Belgaum article. Mahawiki has raked up a new issue on the order of transliteration on the page. The page has had a Kannada and Marathi transliteration in that order for a long time now and there was no objection to it. All of a sudden, Mahawiki has started bickering over an issue as trivial as ordering of the Marathi and Kannada transliteration. How can something which was not objectionable all these days, suddenly become such an important issue to Mahawiki? I feel he is wasting the time and energy of a lot of editors here and preventing them from contributing in a productive way to wikipedia. Collaborative efforts such as wikipedia cannot succeed if people do not assume good faith and come here with a sole intent of maligning other languages and societies. If you take a look at his edit histories, he is Wikistalking Kannada editors in any article they edit. In the article on Seuna Yadavs of Devgiri, he prevented Dinesh from citing books by renowned historian. Then on Rajkumars page, he insisted on using a citations from a tamil chavanist website tamilnation.com to prove Rajkumar's mother tongue was not Kannada. He refused to accept citations from Major Indian portals such as rediff.com. Then as you are aware, on Belgaum article, he has been constantly at conflict with most of the editors. Even when a separate article was created on Belgaum border dispute to keep the Belgaum article encyclopedic, he insisted on having Border dispute as the major section of Belgaum article. On Belgaum border dispute, he preferred using a non-english citation, even though the issue is widely covered in Mainstream English press in India. Please take note of all these and ask him to assume good faith and let others contribute more productively on articles, rather than spend their time in engaging in meaningless discussions on talk pages. Thanks for your time. -- Naveen (talk) 17:19, 2 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Right.Assume good faith and stop sockpuppetry. Kannada users have been using it to make wikipedia work for them. They feel threatened from me i think and hence these tactics. For eg. see India related discussions on wikipedia and u can see atleast 2-3 ids whose contibs tell the 'tale' og their authenticity.Naveenbm, and KNM's combined attacks too raise eyebrows!Dear Kannada users, this tactics is not going to help u guys to retain 'belgavi'! Mahawiki 02:40, 3 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Please stop accusing me of sockpuppetry. It goes against WP:NPA. Within a span of a month, Your friend Arya had referred me for checkuser once you referred me once for checkuser with a trivial reason of me having understood wikipedia policies. The verdict in both these cases have shown I am no sockpuppet. And finally I am glad to see that you have also started to address Belgaum as belagavi...Good start on assuming good faith.. :-) -- Naveen (talk) 03:43, 3 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Do hell with u and ur sockpuppets. Why dont u guys write how imperial Karnataka govt. is entitled to rule Marathi majority Belgaon as Goddess Bhuvaneshwari says Kannadis are superior than Marathis. In fact whole Maharashtra belongs to karnataka. (Marathi was evolved from Kannada. Shivaji Maharaj was Kannada and we all are decendent of kannadis Source:Great historian mr.Dineshkannambadi seconded by admins!)

Farewell,wikipedia. edit

Mahawiki is thinking of departure of this bad-faith ridden, impolite, politics-infested, ungoverned world of English wikipedia.Mahawiki has been extremely unhappy at anti-Maharashtra face of wikipedia and pushing of opposition propoganda at sensitive articles like Belgaum border dispute. Kannada users have being using sockpuppets to seek concession of WP:3RR rule, build fake consensus and harrass opposing editors. They moved in groups and hijack the article keeping no option but to break the 3RR rule and get blocked or stay quiet and give in to their vandalism.User:KNM, User:Naveenbm, User:Sarvagnya(which is confirmed) and god know how many sockpuppets of them are the players! Added to that is ignorance and partisan attitude of so-called admins who extremely prejudiced who propogate injustice by defending the likes of users like User:Sarvagnya and his Kannada-emphatic troops. The mosy recent example of this is when User:Arya_Rajya_Maharashtra was blocked for its very likely being a sockpuppetmaster and Sarvagnya was spared even after he being sockupuppetmaster of User:Gnanapiti WAS CONFIRMED.

Mahawiki says :its time to take a graceful exit while my innocence and my point has been proved. Maharashtra or Marathi cannot be defamed by wikipedia and just because some nonsense is written here. Belgaum doesnt go to Karnataka just because Kannadis push their POV at belgaum_border_dispute. There's no point to stay here when shameless trolls roam unapologetically even after serious charge of sockpuppetry is being proven and incapable admins buy his claims of- we used same laptop!, he moved to other city!!. It has been proved umpteenth times that there is a way to make wikipedia work as u want.IF you dont know that you should not work in wikipedia. Seriously I havent understood how wikipedia system works and truth disperses...

Sarvagnya 16:31, 7 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

lists edit

Sir, is it not okay to have lists as in Vijayanagar Architecture. Is prose form the most popular or is it required by wikipedia?ThanksDineshkannambadi 18:13, 3 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

It's better not to have the "features" part in a list I feel, as we are discussing some "concepts" and "themes" here, which are rather furry, overlapping, non quanititative, rather than something which is well defined for a list, like List of Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu. So it would be best to use a prose discussion rather than dot points. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 03:44, 6 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • Cartography Department (Shortcut:WP:INMAP): The Department of Cartography within the WikiProject India is a group of wikipedians who work on providing quality maps related to India. Their contributions gain more significance as we try to provide more information on places, districts and states of India. As a thumb rule, maps serve better if they are in SVG format. The location maps by the cartography department has helped us include location information based on latitudes and longitudes for a give place within India. The Indian Roadways map is a featured image, one amongst the few best road maps in the world. Still, there is more work to be done. There are 604 districts in India (see List of districts of India), and each district page needs a map of that district. You can help too. Contact the Cartography Department to learn how you can help in making the best maps in Wikipedia to be India-related!
