U.S. Route 13 in Virginia

You shouldn't eliminate State Route 343 (Virginia pre-1928)/State Route 631 (Northampton County, Virginia) from U.S. Route 13 in Virginia just because it's a couple of redlinks. I'm not a big fan of redlinks either, but that doesn't mean they should be deleted when they're important to the articles somehow. AeroUnion Flight 302

"Where is the accident report that says windshear caused this crash?" It didn't cause the crash but it was a factor in it. That info is on the report in Spanish to which there is a link from the article.

I think the idea is that, after the merge, a majority part of Eagle III will be dedicated to the crash. However, if that still means the article shouldn't be listed on the template, then you've done the right thing. I don't know what are the inclusion criteria for those templates. Aircrash articles

William, you seem to be working your way through the various aircrash templates and nominating those articles that you feel fail WP:AIRCRASH at AfD (as is your right). I've no problem with that, and don't see such activity as disruptive. My only worry is what happens once you go back 50 years or more. Aircraft were smaller, death tolls lower, but IMHO, the accidents are just as notable. What are your thoughts please? Mjroots (talk) 15:16, 24 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

If involve fatalities whether its 1 or 100 and its a commercial aviation accident, I won't nominate it for deletion. My views on cargo, military, and private flights differ. There appears to be a consensus that cargo flights should get articles, so I'll go along.
The recent nominees I've made are either non-fatal commercial aviation accidents or private and military fatal accidents. 2009 Montana Pilatus PC-12 crash is very tragic, but its historically insignificant and doesn't meet WP:Aircrash criteria
IMHO there are articles on non-hull losses without fatalities, or hull losses with no fatalities, with articles written on them. Most of these incidents taking place in the last 10 years. It is all recentism, sometimes driven by the media attention it got because it was on video, namely the 2005 JetBlue incident and the 2011 LOT incident.(By the way I've flown into both LAX and Warsaw, Would you believe Tacloban and West Palm Beach. London Gatwick and NAS Miramar.... Tokyo Narita and..... The list of airports and NAS I've flown into or out of is probably about 100-150 and involves airports and NAS on 3 different continents- N. America, Europe, and Asia. Overall I've been to all 50 states and about 15 countries) Why do those survive AFD discussions but a Eastern Air Lines hull loss at Fort Lauderdale in 1972 doesn't? Is it because 1972 was 40 years ago but LOT had 1000 or more television stations showing footage of the landing and the accident took place last year?
Most of the AFD nominees I will be putting up are accidents that took place in the last few years and haven't been nominated before. There are incidents I think should be nominated, Qantas Flight 1 and the AA runway overrun in Jamaica, but I probably won't do a AFD because the prevailing recentism trend will thwart any attempts to delete them.
I do other work on articles, mostly cleanup work. Like not saying the same thing 3 times in the article, once in the opening summary and once in the body is enough. Also putting the articles in a standard type format. Some editors put external links above the references but categories at the bottom are also ET and it should be the other way around. I also clean up See Also sections. Usually unlinking articles that have either unconfirmed or the vaguest similarity to one another.

Thanks for the reply. For accidents pre-2005, you may find The Flight International archive useful. For accidents pre-1985, The Times digital archive is online, but needs a subscription. Maybe you can access via your library's website? Glad to know that my early aircraft accidents are safe from you nominating them at AfD. I think all involved at least one fatality. CVR transcript on Tenerife page

I re-added the CVR transcript. This time, I deleted several lines that were not particularly relevant, and tweaked the language to read out exactly as typed in the Spanish report. You are incorrect to say, "I know where you got the cockpit chatter from, it was the show 'Crash of the Century'." That's not what I used originally, although I have seen that docudrama. I used the Spanish report as a basis, but included other statements backed up by other sources. Also note that the Spanish report includes a CVR transcript, but this transcript is incomplete, since it is built from the Pan Am cockpit. Some statements, such as Meurs's "Wait a minute, we don't have an ATC clearance," are described only in the text of the report. Others, such as Grubbs's shouts when he saw PH-BUF, are only alluded to, as in this statement from the report: "Amidst logical exclamations of alarm they accelerated in order to try to get off the runway, but the collision was already inevitable." Other sources spell out what was said. At any rate, I put all the sources consulted at the top of the section. Some statements, such as the discussion on N736PA's flight deck about the KLM being hurried, are described by multiple sources, but without precise timestamps. It's clear from the descriptions of them only that they occurred after the ATC clearance, but before seeing PH-BUF.

So, I would respectfully say that I have addressed your concern about accuracy. Your statement that "You're [sic] addition to the page on the disaster involving the communications between KLM, Pan Am, and the tower, were very different than what was actually said," is not, so far as I can tell, borne out by the sources I consulted. If you think that a specific statement is questionable, I would urge that you use a [citation needed] tag to show from whence it came, though I'm 99% sure that everything there is now in full accord with the cited sources. I-95 in Florida

Thank you for finding and inserting a url for a link in I-95 in Florida article. I changed this to a permanent link since the NY Times eventually becomes archived and can't be read by readers. Some people might call this a "dead" (unavailable) link at this point and request another link which, by then, usually isn't available online. Your edit is fine but just to let you know, the NYT has an open archive for articles back to 1980(?). Most newspapers do archive their stories, but the NYT is an exception in that it allows access to stories for a much longer time span. No I don't have access to The Times Online but I rely on Google News archive alot. The crashes Tangier 1973, Havana 1989, Macedonia 1993, plus the Korean Air that went down at Tripoli in 1989, don't have many news article available on them. Macedonia because it initially had one survivor is a little better off than the others.

You're just linking to a page that is a duplicate of the list. Everyone on the category page should be on the list page. I've been going through list articles for other cities recently, Little Rock, Fayetteville AR, Youngstown OH, and they don't have a link to the category page on them at the top. In an ideal world they would duplicate each other, but they don't. And sometimes purposefully so by involved editors. Lists and categories are complimentary of each other, Wikipedia:Categories, lists, and navigation templates. Both navigation methods can be used by readers with differing results and I like to encourage readers to be aware that there are two different navigation tools for them to use. Top of the page navigation emphasizes this point, as bottom of the list navigation templates tend to only get used by editors. I have created and or cleaned up over 40 of these List of people from pages, I have seen no consensus against informing readers of both navigation tools, but emphasizing it is my preference. After all, the categories emphasize the List of people from link at the top of the page. it seams only right that the List of people from page emphasize the category link. William, We both know that Find a Grave is not considered to be a WP:RS in Wikipedia. I don't happen to like that policy much, as it is as stupid (and somewhat justified, depending on the fallacy of composition) to say that all of Wikipedia is not reliable because it is a wiki and there are 'no' editorial controls. Depends on whose contributing and what they contribute. I also strongly think that Find a Grave has a good track record on getting the graves right, and that is primarily their business. In any event, this particular article has NO sources, and In the valley of the blind, the one-eyed man is king. But if you want to make it an external link, not a source, I understand. Have at it. Generally, I don't care about baseball and don't edit articles about it. Except for Eppa Rixey, as there is a personal connection. As to the Michigan articles, you happened to be editing in 'my neighborhood' (and I do mean that literally), and I have edited all those particular articles because I live there. See Sturgeon Point Light, as I live exactly a mile north of it. Come join us if you are in the neighborhood. In any event, I understand the stuff was old. But when you do a drive-by extirpation, and don't put in replacement, or don't just mark it with a CN, I think you might be using overkill. While the criticism has validity, there are other cures -- like putting in the right information, or checking to see if you are removing valid info. As to the rest of Alcona County, Michigan's townships, cities and villages, this source would solve a lot of the date problems and has current information on elected officials.[1] Because some places (like Harrisville, Michigan, don't have websites, trying to find this stuff takes some digging. 1966 Dan-Air Apache crash

It seems that you're the one who deleted this article -- correct me if I'm wrong; may I just ask, if this is true, why did you do it? What (in your opinion) was wrong with it? Though I agree that the main article to which it was linked -- the Dan-Air (ex-UK airline) article -- has lots of scope for improvement -- especially the citation overkill -- I feel it was wrong to delete the 1966 DA Apache crash article. If Twinkle is those little boxes at the top including xfd, I use that all the time for AFDs. How would I make the one discussion a yearly tournament article the discussion for all of the yearly articles?
