Re: Protection of article Ronald Reagan

See this log: You set the protection of article Ronald Reagan; there is a problem. You semi-protected it for one year, but before it was extended-confirmed protected (the log given in the link), it had been semi-protected and move protected since 2011. Please restore this. RMXY (talk) 11:15, 30 May 2023 (UTC)

You shouldn't go running from admin to admin with this. Protection can be changed if necessary, we don't protect preemptively. Widr (talk) 08:03, 1 June 2023 (UTC)

Blocked for editing?

I would like to know why you blocked me. The only edits I have ever made (and will make) are for grammar and spelling. I don't upload or create anything. If there has been any activity other than grammar and spelling fixes, something or someone is using my account maliciously and it needs to be addressed. Thank you for your time. @Widr Chompaydm (talk) 21:56, 23 June 2023 (UTC)

Hey there just wondering if you could explain to me how the use of the "other" word edited into the Abiogenesis page was incorrect? According to all the scientific literature, we have not ever made the observation of nonlife forming into life. Here is one, of many, links to a paper written. Third paragraph down says that we have never observed a cell form "de novo":

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7087693/

If you could let me know how I am wrong in the edit, even when citing the change with government recognition, the frank removal of the edit would be proper.

Peace be with you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pitchlumin (talkcontribs) 23:54, 23 June 2023 (UTC)

Unprotection request

Dear admin, will you consider unprotecting Hurricane Camille? It may be too harsh to protect it indefinitely, only due to vandalization of limited unregistered users, and throughout the time, several IP users have made constructive EP on talkpage, which may hinder the volunteers that wish to improve the article, thanks. 175.159.181.65 (talk) 11:01, 26 June 2023 (UTC)

Just a heads-up in case you hadn't seen the pattern, 112.206.244.65 is actually LTA that has been abusing many Philippines IPs for a few months now. Month-long rangeblocks of IPv4 /24 have started being landed. Check the history of any of the articles this IP you blocked has edited for more examples. DMacks (talk) 19:00, 14 September 2023 (UTC)

Please help me with understanding a suspension

Hello, I am very novice when it comes to editing Wikipedia, and it seems I have been given a 2 year ban by your account. Of the three edits I've ever made, I don't think any qualify as disruptive editing by the definition given on the relevant page. Of course, I'm not even sure if this is the proper way to contact you, so what do I know.

Please help me figure out the reasoning behind the suspension, I thank you for your time. 136.34.79.133 (talk) 02:00, 30 October 2023 (UTC)

Hello, IP editor. Wikipedia:IP block exemption may be useful for you to read. I suggest that you consider signing up for a Wikipedia account, which will give you many benefits, including increased anonymity if that is important to you. Cullen328 (talk) 02:14, 30 October 2023 (UTC)

Blocking spree

I appreciate your contributions, Rather than blocking users because they can’t perfectly format articles to your caliber, I suggest editing the post you are concerned with, and simply move on with life. Additionally you could talk with the editor you’re concerned with as removing them completely does not incentivize them to use this service we both enjoy. A versed user as your self knows there is a description text box to give an explanation why you felt the edit was inadequate. 80k+ blocks is insane. 216.54.0.0/17

Hey, ArbCom got a note in our inbox that Special:Contributions/216.54.0.0/17 isn't a school and that while there might be schools on the range, most of the addresses in it are static and in fact businesses rather than schools.

Is there a narrower range (or set of ranges) you can reblock here for whichever addresses you saw of issue? Izno (talk) 00:02, 8 November 2023 (UTC)

I changed it to anon-only rangeblock. Considering that there are and have been multiple independent long blocks and mostly disruption on the range, I don't think narrowing it would be the best idea. You are of course free to do so if you disagree. Widr (talk) 16:20, 8 November 2023 (UTC)

Block for "disruptive" editing

Are you certain this is a disruptive edit? I replaced it, but after having examined it for a good half an hour. I don't see why any part of it is disruptive, and the editor who edit-warred with him never provided one summary for his changes (so ought really to be banned themself). New IP Address Showing Same Behavior as IP You Blocked

Hi Widr, you helped solve a vandalism problem in May by blocking this IP address. I had particularly tracked the repeated removal of Wiki markup of the same name at least 11 times in the Bob Dorough article. User Alexcalamaro, who has more experience dealing with vandalism that I have, was very helpful with this issue, and he or she may have been the one to ask for your help. Well, now another IP address, has just done the same thing, very suspiciously looking like it's the same anonymous user. Does a new history of this kind of vandalism have to be established, or is this suspicious repeat behavior enough to justify some new punitive action? Any help, including advice on where to turn if this is not something you can help with, would be appreciated. --Alan W (talk) 05:53, 17 December 2023 (UTC)

Actually, I see that Alexcalamaro posted a notice here, rather than asking you directly. Should I do the same? I have been on Wikipedia a very long time but have very little experience fighting vandalism, so I'm a little uncertain about things like this. Please advise. --Alan W (talk) 06:05, 17 December 2023 (UTC)
Yeah, AIV is the proper venue for reporting ongoing vandalism/disruption. The IP has made no edits since yesterday, so I will not be taking action this time. Widr (talk) 18:27, 17 December 2023 (UTC)
OK, I will report via AIV, but, based on what you say, I suppose I should wait until there are more similar edits from that IP address. Thanks for the guidance. --Alan W (talk) 23:32, 17 December 2023 (UTC)

UTRS appeal

Hi, Widr. There's a request for an unblock at UTRS appeal #84973 for an editor called Anonymous Bond that you blocked just over three years ago. I am inclined to look reasonably generously on a request relating to a block so long ago. Do you have any opinion to express, either on the possibility of directly unblocking, or on restoring talk page access to allow an on-wiki unblock request? JBW (talk) 21:28, 16 February 2024 (UTC)

I don't use UTRS, so I don't know what's there, but I guess it's safe to restore access now. So I will do that. Widr (talk) 21:42, 16 February 2024 (UTC)
Thanks. The fact that most administrators don't see what is on UTRS is one of the main reasons why I usually prefer to restore talk page access in this situation, rather than unblock directly at UTRS. Much better for it all to be visible. JBW (talk) 22:11, 16 February 2024 (UTC)
