Stephfo

I chased through his edits on Meta. He speaks Slovak - he contributed to the translation project there. I'm not sure it's the language that's the problem though, unless there are magic words in Slovak that will make him understand that arguing that he's done nothing wrong and a dozen editors are out to get him is not helping his case. --Elen of the Roads (talk) 13:49, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

Yes, he speaks Slovak, and, as I read Slovak, and have read his talk page entries on SK:WP (his user name there is Steffo), I can confirm Elen's suspicions that the problem is not language related, because he has had a lot of the same problems over there. In fact, his English is rather good, impressive even. The problem is constitional. He just has a contentious nature and a very thin skin, and that's not going to change. I admire what you did with Zenkai, but Zenkai was willing to listen and take advice. Stephfo just isn't. Dominus Vobisdu (talk) 14:44, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
I fear my mind is telling me the same, Vobisdu, but my heart says otherwise. On the other hand, I know there is a phrase for 'stop arguing that you've done nothing wrong and everyone else is out to get you' at least in Czech.
So, D.V., you're living in Poland? Neat! I don't know Western Slavic languages very well, but they are at least 75% similar to S. Slavic (Serbo-Croatian, Slovene, Montenegrin, Bulgarian, and Macedonian (the odd-ball in that they threw out the cases from their language), in which I am fluent. Wekn reven 15:40, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
Yes, I've been living here for ten years now. Slovak is close enough to Polish that I was surprised the first time I read an article in a Slovakian newspaper and could understand every word. Czech took a little more practice. I wish Polish had thrown out the case system, too. It's perverse, and I still have problems with declensions and conjugations.
Had a greated time in Macedonia during the 1980s, when my German colleagues and I visited Skopje, Bitola and Lakes Ochrid and Prespa as guests of a local geologist. Beautiful country, and the hydrology of the Ochrid/Prespa system is fascinating (it involves underground rivers). Just watch out for the snakes; I've never seen so many. If you haven't visited yet, do so. It's particularly beautiful in the spring. And the food is wonderful.
I have nothing personal against Stephfo. I didn't participate in any of the blocks against him until the topic ban, where he just went too far. I'd actually love to have him as one of my English students. But he is a handful, and it's the amount of fellow editor and administrator time that he consumes that is my primary worry. Good luck! Dominus Vobisdu (talk) 16:18, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
Thanks! Yeah, I'm just about to give up on Stephfo too. He doesn't seem to be listening. Oh well, if he wants to hang himself, I suppose no one can stop him. I agree, the Očhrid/Prespa ponornice are amazing! As long as you don't swallow any of the water -- some kind of a seasonal algae bloom. It reminds me of Plitvice in that it is gorgeous but deadly (if you managed to drink any of that ultra-calcified water). Wekn reven 16:27, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
If I thought he was a younger teen I would block him for 12 or 18 months, as one could say he needs to grow up a bit before he edits here, and there's a world of difference between a 13 year old and a 15 year old. But I've no reason to believe he has that excuse. Love the sig - how do you get the smudge effect? Elen of the Roads (talk) 18:25, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
Thanks; just add (this will turn the signature into an italicized one) SIGNATURE to it.

Libel

I was also in the process of reverting your edit before Theroadislong beat me to it. You invoked WP:LIBEL and WP:BLP, and I can see nothing libelous in the content. Nor do I agree that it is irrelevant, considering his seminary position. Please don't revert without discussing on article talk page and getting consensus. Dominus Vobisdu (talk) 17:24, 19 February 2012 (UTC)

When minors are involved...such as his children - besides, how IN THE WORLD is the section about 'Faith Healing' of any relevant notability? He is known for ID advocacy, not his position on that topic. Not only is the event itself not WP:NOTABLE, but unless he is significantly more well known in relevant areas, it is not worth documenting on a WP article. If you reply here, I shall move the topic to the article's talk page -- and please do, if you wish, to reply here. Otherwise, I don't believe the content can be deleted without a consensus reached on the talk page, since 3 users total (at least) are now involved (disappointingly). List in userspace

Hi Wekn. I have a concern about that list of people in your userspace, and thought I would raise it with you first. WP:BLP applies to BLPs, including any living person mentioned in a BLP even if not the subject of the article, and to material about living persons on other pages - so it applies to items in userspace, even though more leeway is often given to such things. My concern is that if the list were in article space, it would immediately be challenged on two grounds.

 • Lists should not include people who are not notable - although they may contain persons who are notable but do not have a Wikipedia article yet. This has been upheld in diverse settings, and is particularly cited where the subject of the list is in any way controversial. For example, a list of people who were alleged to support the notion that someone other than William Shakespear wrote all the plays, was reduced to a list of notable actors and directors who had signed a notable document which stated that they didn't think Shakespear wrote the plays.
 • Which brings up the second point - sourcing must be impeccable, and preferably must require a statement from the individual concerned. This is most likely available for the bluelinked individuals on your list. I note that one of your "reliable sources" is a site making some quite frankly bizarre claims about scientists in history, and another of your sources is a group that seems to have shut down in 2008. I believe that if these sources came up at WP:RS/N, there would not be consensus that they are sufficiently reliable for Wikipedia to be hosting lists of names of non-notable persons identified through such sources.

I believe therefore that the list is problematic in terms of Wikipedia's policy relating to living persons, and it would be better if you could arrange to host it elsewhere. There is no problem with you maintaining a set of sources and links in userspace, just the actual list of people.

I will wait for your response. --Elen of the Roads (talk) 16:29, 22 February 2012 (UTC)

Sure thing. I think you're right. One of the sources wasn't that great -- I'll change it to a link-list. Wekn reven 11:18, 23 February 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, I appreciate you taking that approach. Elen of the Roads (talk) 13:22, 23 February 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, sometimes I find the users with the most opposite views can be the most edifying -- in some senses. Wekn reven 13:49, 23 February 2012 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for correcting my typo. I should have thought of you, too. Would appreciate any help. Thanks. Dominus Vobisdu (talk) 13:20, 23 February 2012 (UTC)

Welcome! Say, perhaps I can help... Wekn reven 13:21, 23 February 2012 (UTC)
Mighty nice of you. The guy seems fixated on a single irrelevant concept and can't see the big picture. Thanks! Dominus Vobisdu (talk) 13:25, 23 February 2012 (UTC)

Question

Just curious... Is there a reason why your username begins with "Wekn" instead of "Wenk"? The rest is clearly words in reverse, but "Nkew" isn't a word.--Jeffro77 (talk) 15:45, 25 February 2012 (UTC)

Typo, but now Im stuck with it. ; ) Wekn reven 15:15, 27 February 2012 (UTC)
I had wondered about that too hehe. You know you could always register the correct spelling and turn your current user pages into redirects if you wanted. Noformation Talk 21:08, 27 February 2012 (UTC)
Oops. :) --Jeffro77 (talk) 09:10, 28 February 2012 (UTC)

Zenkai

I don't know whether you still consider yourself his mentor, but Zenkai just got blocked for edit warring [[1]] and is rapidly heading toward an indef or topic ban. He's a good editor in music articles, but when it comes to religious topics, he's hopelessly contentious, and is reverting good faith changes as "vandalism". It wouldn't hurt to have a talk with him. I'd hate to see him go the way of Stephfo. Dominus Vobisdu (talk) 08:26, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

I'll check it out. Such a shame! Wekn reven 15:20, 29 February 2012 (UTC)
Well, he's gone forever now. Got nailed for block evasion and socking, and not the first time. Yes, it is a shame because his work on the music articles was valuable. Thanks for trying. Dominus Vobisdu (talk) 17:16, 29 February 2012 (UTC)
Noooo!!! Bummer. That's the second block I regret yet. I don't think he can manage to get out of this one. I wish that users who were making helpful contributions to Wikipedia could be given a little more leeway for the first few months or so. Oh well, it is probably the best thing for him. Wekn reven 20:34, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

Re:Sad news

Hello! I will try to give him some advice on his talk page if he was not aware of the policy (it seems like he was not). I appreciate the message! With regards, AnupamTalk 00:12, 4 March 2012 (UTC)

Significance?

I was diverted here from a meta-article about "wiki".
What is the purpose or cause of so much drivel on this page?
"Wekn reven i susej eht" | "the jesus i never nkeW"
Most of the articles are stuffed with absurdum, non-sequitur, generalization, and just bad, confused grammar. The (various?) authors' points or intent (if any) are vague, unsupported, or even contradicted within the article.

WikiProject Wikify and the future of wikification

Hi! There is an ongoing proposal at the project talkpage concerning the future of wikification, including possible deprecation of the {{wikify}} template which is being discussed at Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2012 August 10. Your input would be greatly appreciated!
