Thank You for your help

Thank you for your guidelines and the links you provided which I will be able to use to know more details processes about Wikipedia. Saurabh Chatterjee 2 (talk) 12:27, 18 February 2015 (UTC)

Thank you Saurabh Chatterjee 2. You are always welcome here if you have any more questions. Best, w.carter-Talk 12:35, 18 February 2015 (UTC)

asking a question

I am unable to edit by user page in mobile(android chrome browser). This error starts from tommorow, before that it was all right. Now the edit button (pencil) merge to notification button. Saurabh Chatterjee 2 (talk) 12:42, 18 February 2015 (UTC)

@Saurabh Chatterjee 2: I know that mobiles sometimes tend to distort some features on the WP. If this started recently, you could simply try to log out, turn off the browser and then turn on and log in again. Sometimes a simple restart is all it takes. Otherwise the right place to ask about such a thing is at the Wikipedia:Village pump (technical). Good luck, w.carter-Talk 12:57, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
@Saurabh Chatterjee 2:By the way, I'm moving these questions to the bottom of the page. That is the correct timeline here on user talk pages. w.carter-Talk 12:59, 18 February 2015 (UTC)

ANI

I share your concerns regarding that "Sleep Editor" SPA and his obvious corporate connection. However, I'm wondering whether, given that he has admitted to nothing, so far as I know, whether the COI tag on the article and the "connected contributor" tag on the talk page is warranted. I'm not 100% sure what our practice is when an editor's contributions scream "COI" but when it is not admitted. Coretheapple (talk) 17:52, 18 February 2015 (UTC)

@Coretheapple: Hello! Yes, that is one slippery editor. Probably someone at the marketing department who has made enough research to know how to get away with this and will admit to nothing. Let's see if the sock investigation yields something, if some CheckUser is doing that. Most of all I wanted them to know that they were under scrutiny and started to behave. Or perhaps more preferably, leave. w.carter-Talk 18:13, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
Note his response to me on his talk page. That is a good first step. Unfortunately our policies in dealing with people like him are pretty toothless, and intentionally so. Coretheapple (talk) 18:15, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
@Coretheapple: Yep, that pretty "incriminating". Let's see what the ANI can do. w.carter-Talk 18:23, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
Oh I was meaning to ask about that sock investigation. Do you have a link? Coretheapple (talk) 18:31, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
@Coretheapple:Eeeh ... no... I sort of thought that such an investigation would be included in the ANI if I mentioned it there. Should that be reported somewhere else as well?. w.carter-Talk 19:23, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
If you think there's sockpuppeting you have to commence a case at WP:SPI. True, sometimes administrators can just see what you've posted at ANI and then take action, on sockpuppeting or for any reason, but more likely not. Coretheapple (talk) 19:33, 18 February 2015 (UTC)

@Coretheapple: I'm not yet familiar whith how to start such investigations. I read on the help page, that "proof" was essential and I only have suspicions so far. Also not clear about how they deal with one IP as a sock. They could claim they forgot to log in. So I leave it be for now. If one of them give me reason to rethink this, I will do so. Best, w.carter-Talk 20:27, 18 February 2015 (UTC)

It's not hard, you just follow the instructions. Let's see if that IP continues adding promotional material. Coretheapple (talk) 20:37, 18 February 2015 (UTC)

I've started a little list ...

In case anyone is interested, the You know you're really into editing on the English Wikipedia when ... list is now up and running. Cheers, w.carter-Talk 12:46, 22 February 2015 (UTC)

" ... you start answering emails at work in English, even though both you and the recipient are Swedish." - very very true. Some people even asked me, "Did you imigrated to a English speaking country?". Lol!! I have many things to do, firstly re-design my user page then create some essays and create that type of list but I'm so busy that I don't even have time to work on my Workshop. Anyway, good list :) Jim Carter 14:12, 22 February 2015 (UTC)
Thank you. :) Don't wear yourself out! Maybe lists like this could be sort of linked by a "See also" section on each of them. Take care, w.carter-Talk 14:18, 22 February 2015 (UTC) Well ...   Done, thanks for the idea. w.carter-Talk 14:32, 22 February 2015 (UTC)

Mensaje Muy Urgente

First of all, if you want someone to help you, you should really write in English. I only know a little Spanish and most other editors who might be interested in following this conversation understand nothing. Yes, I remember Halias 23, and all the other account he also started, went by and was finally blocked from using. I also saw that a recent account Pastora Helen Guerra has been blocked as another suspected sock and that AndyTheGrump had something to do with it. And since your account is brand new, and your first instinct was to call on me, Halias 23's old teacher, I can only assume that you are that same person and that you have not managed to stay out of trouble as you promised. If so I strongly suggest that you stay away from those articles that Halias 23 created since they only seems to develop more grievance and bad feelings. If you think that someone is disruptive or have any other issues, you should bring this to attention at WP:ANI since there is not much that I can do about it. Best, w.carter-Talk 18:29, 22 February 2015 (UTC)
Thanks, but i'm not Manuel (Halias 23) i'm his friend, I'm only help him for his articles, but i will to talk to him respect this, also in my page of user, there is a poem of Halias 23 (called: the the criollo American treason to the mother Spain) Thanks and greetings from Barcelona--España (La madre patria) (talk) 18:40, 22 February 2015 (UTC)
@España (La madre patria): Ok, but I think that you should let other editors with cooler heads and not so involved in all of this take care of the articles for the time being. In time they will be all right, there are lots of other editors here who will see to that. Remember that this is an encyclopedia and not a battle field for opinions and personal vendettas. w.carter-Talk 18:48, 22 February 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for your kind explanation, i will talk to Manuel for this, unfortunately is an angry, vengeful and highly racist person, but it's good friend, I hope that you and he have gotten along well--España (La madre patria) (talk) 18:55, 22 February 2015 (UTC)

And... you're blocked... Oh, when will they ever learn?   - w.carter-Talk 23:31, 22 February 2015 (UTC)

Moving out of sandboxAhlitanah (talk) 19:16, 23 February 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for your help. Now, I have finished Eureka Quartzite in the sandbox and I want to post it to the encyclopedia. How do I do that?Ahlitanah (talk) 19:16, 23 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi Ahlitanah, good job with the references! :) It seems like a nice solid article now. There are some minor tweaks that should be done: link some of the places mentioned in the article, fixing converting templates for the distances and measurements and a picture to go with it all would also be nice. Maybe you could find something suitable here. As for the article, it is time to move it to a Draft to clear your sandbox for your next project and submitting it for review by placing a {{subst:submit}} at the top of the page. I'll move it and fix that for you since it is your first article. I'll get back to you on this. Best, w.carter-Talk 19:54, 23 February 2015 (UTC)
@Ahlitanah:The move is done and the page is now at Draft:Eureka Quartzite. It is better if you place the {{subst:submit}} at the top of the page and save, since it is you who submits the article. w.carter-Talk 20:02, 23 February 2015 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

Moved to User:W.carter/things I have received

Oh!!!   This is almost too much. Thank you! It is a bit embarrassing to realize that I was intended for the barnstar you asked about. You are so kind. Keep asking questions, that is how you learn things and improve your English skills, just like I did. Best, w.carter-Talk 06:21, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

It is a trivial scenario and shows how willingly you helped without knowing (that it was you you!)
And you now became the example of the fact i wrote on my user page! ~"aGastya" ✉ let’s talk about it :) 10:27, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

Userboxes!

Ugh. at last i have categorised them. BUT my userpage is messed. how can i make it look good or At least stop it looking bad. Something that you have done in your userpage or so! GSK has done it so amazingly for "home" and "talk". I tried to understand yours and his codes in the pages respectively but it was in vain. Please help me! And, is it possible to add a background (i.e.an image of about 1920*1080 size) to user page? Thanks! ~"aGastya" ✉ let’s talk about it :) 07:31, 23 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi aGastya, my page is built on templates and secondary pages and you may have to have made some more editing before you understand how that is done. The page that you mention above is made in a new technique that I'm not familiar with. Sorry. But I can do some fixes on your page to make it look more tidy. There are some simple tricks that can be used. I'll do it in stages so you can follow, see and revert it if you want. I will use another and more flexible system for your userboxes. As for the background picture, that size is rather large, not all users have such hi-rez screens and will only see a fraction of that pic. So the pic will have to look nice even if you don't see all of it. And if you use such a large background pic it will also be impossible to click on it and see where it comes from (it must come from Commons and be a free pic to be used here) so a source tag will have to be added. I'll choose a random pic for you and you can substitute the code for one you want later. Ok? Remember that all these special features do not render right on all platforms, but it will be better than the mess you have now. Best, w.carter-Talk 08:53, 23 February 2015 (UTC)

Oh, that would be great! ~"aGastya" ✉ let’s talk about it :) 09:35, 23 February 2015 (UTC)

aGastya,   Done Now you can move things around and change what you want. You can read about how to use the Wikitable here: Help:Table/Introduction to tables and Help:Table, you find all the colors at Web colors and you can search for other pictures here, I just added that picture since your interests mentioned stargazing. Best, w.carter-Talk 10:50, 23 February 2015 (UTC)

Thank you! Oh it is looking great now! and in the mean time I figured out the user page of GSK. I guess he is very brilliant programmer and finally I gathered the codes. Now I am making my user page in sandbox first. And I will combine the user page looks of you and GSK as well! Thanks ~"aGastya" ✉ let’s talk about it :) 14:06, 23 February 2015 (UTC)

There you see, you only needed a little nudge in the right direction.   Happy editing! w.carter-Talk 14:33, 23 February 2015 (UTC)

In my sand box i completed 4 userbox categories with collapse option. But can't those 4 categories arranged side by side instead of one below the other? ~"aGastya" ✉ let’s talk about it :) 10:29, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

@Acagastya:The only way of doing that is to "nest" them. That is putting each of those tables in a new table. I have done that in your sandbox so you can see what it looks like. The extra 'enter' between the rows is not necessary, I just put them there so it would be easier to see where one 'box' ended and another one began. Since the pictures used on the cards are of different size, the boxes will automatically have different heights. To fix that, is beyond me I'm afraid. Most editors don't do "side by side" very much, but rather in columns since that renders better on all platforms, especially phones with their small narrow screen. Well, you can play around with it now that you have the 'key' for it. Best, w.carter-Talk 10:56, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

and now if i wish to add another category... will it go in the next line? And, now it is looking dashing by your edit than it was 30 hours back! ~"aGastya" ✉ let’s talk about it :) 11:04, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

@Acagastya:You just add a | before the final |} . I have made a 'mark' for you in your sandbox. Oh, by the way: You should not use the ! in the box, that is just for the first row if you have text in it, otherwise it should be just the | . Just substitute all of them so no future funny stuff will be pop up in the tables. w.carter-Talk 11:17, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

Friend?

Can i call you and refer you as my friend? ~"aGastya" ✉ let’s talk about it :) 10:43, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

@Acagastya: Just to make it clear, the Wikipedia does not have a "friending" system the same way that Facebook or other social sites have. We don't "collect" friends and list them anywhere the way it is done on such sites. Here we make friends the good old fashion way by talking to and getting to know each other as time passes. :) But we all try to be as friendly as we can, so yes, you can call me your new friend as long as you stay out of trouble and don't mistreat it. w.carter-Talk 11:04, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

I meant the later. I don't consider the former one; ever! well thanks! ~"aGastya" ✉ let’s talk about it :) 11:11, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

That's good to hear. :) It seems like you have the right attitude for an editor here at the Wikipedia. Best, w.carter-Talk 11:17, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

Hello Fête dans la vie, I assume that you mean 'how do I edit an article'. There are very many things to know before starting to edit articles correctly, too many for me to start writing them down here. But, there is a tutorial, a sort of "Wiki-school" that I suggest you take. It is mostly designed for young editors so it might feel like going back to school for you, but it is a good way to learn. Go to Wikipedia:The Wikipedia Adventure. You can also read the info at some of the links I posted in the Welcome template on your talk page. I suggest that you start by reading Help:Editing (this one has a video explaining how), Wikipedia:Tutorial and some more links on that template. You might also be interested in the Wikipedia:Your first article.
I would also suggest that you start by doing small and simple edits in articles and work your way up. For editing and writing texts a certain level of knowledge about the English language is required, and though you know many words, I'm sorry (désolée..) to say that from what I've seen in your posts here, your spelling and knowledge of English grammar is not good enough. If you insert text, be sure to check the spelling in either the automatic spelling program in the editing window or do a Google translate for it. Also remember that you must leave references for all new texts. I know that the French Wikipedia does not take that as serious as we do here. w.carter-Talk 10:56, 27 February 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the message, and I will take into account what you have told me, the problem is but i dont speak much anglais, Thanks --Fête dans la vie (talk) 22:02, 27 February 2015 (UTC)

User page

Hello! I wanted to comment about my user page. I placed historical documents uploaded by me. They are from books and official records of Argentina and they are in public domain because they have more than 100 years old. Are treated in the Falkland Islands. I think that you know about the conflict. The problem is that the user Wee Curry Monster (WCM) few days ago comment on my talk page about some documents and photos. He talks about corrections on some lithographs.

As much as I presented some sources, he treats them with lies and fakes. In Commons also told me about it and bad form. See: [1]. I do not like the tone of the messages. Now I talk about some pictures and an article in Wikipedia in Spanish (I'm user od Spanish wiki) and he contradicts me data that I reference it, without sources. I don't have bad intentions or spam. They are just documents that I upload. Under the rules, I have understood that the user pages are personal spaces. They told me some users, that WCM try to violate my right as editor in my personal space.

In the rules of Wikipedia, neutrality includes the views of both parties (or more) of a conflict. WCM also criticized me that! The talks me about "stupid lies" and denigrates my sources to be Argentine and Spanish. Remember that this is not an article. I bothers me that he criticizes my user page when it comes to personal space. I feel he has treated me ignorant and wants to put in his favor British points of view, contrary to the rules of Wikipedia. I don't want to feel intimidated, because I just wanted to add something to my user page. I don't have intention to put this material on articles about the Islands (in this Wikipedia). Cheers and good afternoon. --Gastón Cuello (talk) 21:50, 3 March 2015 (UTC)

@Gastón Cuello: WHAO!! What? Hi, who are you? What is this all about? Are you sure you have posted on the right talk page? Yes, I know about the Falkland war, but I have never edited any articles about it and have no idea why you thought it was a good idea to come and ask me about all this.
That said, I did have a look at some of the links you provided, and I think I can spot at least some problems. Let's start with the link you provided to the Commons. Yes, that editor could have used a more diplomatic language, but he is essentially right. While your user page is yours to decorate pretty much as you want to, within the rules of the Wikipedia, posting pictures there requires you to first upload them on the Commons, where anyone can find them and use them for any purpouse. So even if you uploaded them just for your own page, they are still at the Commons where other editors may find them and, unknowingly, use them in real live articles. That is the main problem.
So, therefore when you upload a picture of a document it has to be absolutely right and in it's original form. You can never do composites from newspapers the way you did with File:The Times - Argentine Capture of the Falkland Islands 1820.jpg where you combined the heading from the theatre section with a post in another column published under another heading. That really is considered forgery. Even if you provide an explanation for the things you did on the Commons page, it still does not work. Once the picture is published there, it can be separated from that explanation and it will be mistaken for an actual document. I can only assume the lithography that is mentioned is treated in a similar way. If you have done any more alterations to any other pictures of documents, please nominate them for deletion and start over fresh and right.
I will not go into all the comments about the Spanish Wikipedia on your talk page. From what I have heard about it, it seems like a bit of the Wild West compared to this Wikipedia, no disrespect to you personally intended. It's just that the rules are really enforced and followed here. I hope that this have somehow made sense to you. Best, w.carter-Talk 23:04, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
Hello again! First, some users advised me about you. Second, I did not edit anything, I uploaded a file from PDF. Sorry, but you are misinformed. With the same lithographs. I don't edited and I never use programs for it. In Spanish the same and similar rules are followed. --Gastón Cuello (talk) 23:29, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
See: [2] And all documents are in Commons and are used in es.wiki. --Gastón Cuello (talk) 23:34, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
About me, I am an Argentine who edits in various wikis. And I seek not having problems with my page. I wonder what I can do to make WCM not criticize me. Cheers. --Gastón Cuello (talk) 23:39, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
@Gastón Cuello: Hi! Ok, I was just a bit surprised by this. I have tried to look at it all and I think I'm beginning to have a clearer picture about what happened. You found this picture and uploaded it in good faith, thinking that it was ok. Later when you were made aware that it might not be, you tried to right it by uploading the correct version of the file, and at that point the editor actually agreed with you that he was satisfied. But then other editors started to make comments, many things were lost in translation (misunderstood since you speak different languages) and then all hell broke loose, including unrelated things being dragged into the discussion. How sad.
From what I can see the whole thing is not about the rest of the documents on your user page, that was just dragged into it all for no good reason. The whole ting is about that image. Since it is contested and controversial, I would actually suggest that you remove it from your page and stay away from the discussion at the Commons. (You have already added to your page about the flag in the lithography, that it is just a casual comment on your part, so that cannot be contested.) I think that would be the best for some peace an quiet. Some editors are very set in their ways and may go about looking for trouble, the best way is almost always to just ignore them and let them pass by. But if you insist on trying to get some satisfaction, you can report the whole thing to WP:ANI, but my guess is that it would only make things worse. You tried to do right, let that be enough. All the best, w.carter-Talk 01:10, 4 March 2015 (UTC)
Exactly! I stopped participating in deletion request. I will put on my page the other version of the photo. Thanks for the information! I try to ignore. Any problem I notice on the site. I want to be at peace, besides my page is a personal space. I'm not complaining about the contents of the others... Greetings and have a very good day. --Gastón Cuello (talk) 11:44, 4 March 2015 (UTC)
@Gastón Cuello: I think you acted wisely. Let others fight over the picture while you continue to edit and contribute to the Wikipedia instead. A good day to you too, w.carter-Talk 12:01, 4 March 2015 (UTC)

On Swedhr

Hi, and thanks for the help. I left an answer at Teahouse Q&A board (I don't know if you get notified automatically on my replies to you there). I have this other question, do I need to translate the Swedish article-titles listed in Reference and Footnotes? Tack, Hrdap (talk) 02:13, 1 March 2015 (UTC)

Hi Hrdap. No I don't get automatic notifications from there, but I was keeping an eye on the conversation. I'll leave a note on your talk page about how to alert other users. In answer to your question, yes it is best to leave translations, but in the "Wiki-way". I'll start and see what I can do for your article, and I'll get back to you on your talk page about that when I have done some edits. Best, w.carter-Talk 08:12, 1 March 2015 (UTC)
@W.carter: Where can I find the email address you mentioned, to send you a message?
Thanks again for the valuable editing you did on my draft.
Hrdap (talk) 20:59, 2 March 2015 (UTC)
@Hrdap:The email function is can be used to email any user who has the box checked at "Preferences→User profile→Enable email from other users". If so, you will find a clickable link in the left column on the page, below the Wikipedia logo and down under "Tools": "Email this user". Click on that while at this page (for email to me) and the Wikipedia will forward the first email. After that it is just ordinary email conversation if the user you email chooses to answer. Your email address will be revealed, and that is why most of us with this function have a dedicated address for the WP. Be advised that most of us do not use our real names in the email, but continue with the signature. Just send me a message if you want to, Swedish or English doesn't matter there. Btw, I must congratulate you on how quick you are in picking up "The Code" here. :) I see progress in every edit or post you make. Very good! Best, w.carter-Talk 22:27, 2 March 2015 (UTC)
@W.carter: Yes, I will email tomorrow.

Hey! Thank you so much for the warm welcome.

Well, do help me up with all the adding and editing of wikipedia. Superbkc (talk) 11:51, 5 March 2015 (UTC)

You are always welcome if you have any specific questions about editing. I was surprised to see that you removed the welcome sign immediately. That is supposed to be like a guide for you if there is anything you need to check while editing. Most editors keep that for months to have easy access to all the help links. w.carter-Talk 12:04, 5 March 2015 (UTC)

Bug?

You are experienced. I tried to reply to you at the Teahouse but it isn't working, know why or where to report it to fix it? I use a phone and chrome. –DangerousJXD (talk) 10:10, 7 March 2015 (UTC)

@DangerousJXD: I'm sorry, I have no experience what so ever in editing using a phone. But if there is a bug, you should report it at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical) they know all about such stuff. Best, w.carter-Talk 10:19, 7 March 2015 (UTC)
Ah yes, I forgot about that place. Thanks. Editing on a phone is just the same as a computer really, just saying. —DangerousJXD (talk) 10:23, 7 March 2015 (UTC)

Hello hello :)

Hello hello there :) I just wanted to say hi, now that I've found a bit of time for Wikipedia again! I'm guessing it'll be sporadic still, but nice to be back. About the wall, at the moment I think a GA nomination would be too big an undertaking for me here but let's see what happens in the future! Take care and have a nice evening, Yakikaki (talk) 18:01, 10 March 2015 (UTC)

Hi Yakikaki! Sorry about the belated reply, things outside the WP has required more attention than I thought. It's good too hear that you have some time off for the WP again. You are such a pleasant addition to the gang here. About the Wall, yes a GAN is a rather big undertaking and I fully understand if you don't have the time. When things have settled down here a bit I might try to nominate it myself and do the work. You can chime in if you like, the way I did at Carl Michael Bellman. I'll let you know if and when I do something. Btw, it seems like two of our other interests have coincided. Due to the Ukrainian crises, the Swedish government is planning to remilitarize Gotland. See this, this and this Cheers, w.carter-Talk 10:04, 14 March 2015 (UTC)

Suggestion for you.

Hi there W.carter. I've noticed that so many new users have found their way around Wikipedia thanks to your guidance. I'm so happy to know someone who devotes most of his time to help out newbies.  Consider joining Wikipedia:Adopt-a-user program if you have time. Cheers and stay cool.--Chamith (talk) 19:57, 11 March 2015 (UTC)

Hi ChamithN, apologies for the tardy reply but things not WP have taken it's toll the last week. Thank you for your kind comment and your suggestion. Many editors (and newbies) have suggested the same before, and I'll give you the same answer: I am too much of a free spirit to join such a program. I help newbies when and if I have the time, I keep an eye on them and pop in the odd suggestion and am available if they want to ask something. It has worked rather well so far and I'm happy to work that way. All the best, w.carter-Talk 10:12, 14 March 2015 (UTC)

Hello

Hello Dear Friend. I am back. All fine. Will focus in real life for some time and come back with another article in my user space soon. By the way, just to honesty clarify to you at least - Vijender Kumar was also developed in userspace and then it was moved to main space by Philg88 after minor ce (I remember it clearly, and it must be in article history somewhere). Big disturbances were going on in Assam between university and students at that time, when he was made VC. He successfully controlled them. Thats why his news were fleshing in legal arena. I read them, and then worked on his Bio, which is now on WP as a small article of course, since I did not have much to write.

I want to work on all "Awards and Honors" one by one which is given in India to Indian Citizens. Many of them are not on WP at present.

The hot news of this week though is this: But I personally feel that it is all propaganda, there was no need to react this way by Indians. Educationtemple (talk) 16:20, 11 March 2015 (UTC)

Hello my friend, so sorry about the late reply, things in my ordinary life took more time and attention than I had thought. I feel like I could sleep a week now! I'm sorry I misunderstood the process with the article, as I said, I did not know you or it at the time. I haven't commented in it since I don't think I know enough about it and my initial reaction is just to merge with the university.
The "Awards and Honors"-plan sounds good, just pick the ones with most coverage so that the articles will not be contested.
My little corner of the world (Gotland) has gotten some new and rather undesired attention during the last week. With the unrest in Ukraine and Russia acting out, eyes have once again fallen on my little island as a strategic point in the Baltic and the Swedish government is planning to post military troops here once again. Best, w.carter-Talk 10:33, 14 March 2015 (UTC)

Re: Your edits on Gotland

Added a reference (moved it from External links). Sorry, I should have done that at the time of the original edits. Look forward to contributing more if I can. 83.70.251.222 (talk) 11:23, 14 March 2015 (UTC)

I have left a comment on your talk page. Let's keep this conversation in one place shall we. I have your page on my watchlist. w.carter-Talk 11:33, 14 March 2015 (UTC)

A cup of tea for you!

Moved to User:W.carter/things I have received

Thank you, just what I needed! :) I've had a rough day and I'm exhausted, so not much energy left for the WP this evening I'm afraid. But I suspect that you can write along on the article just the same.

Anyway, it seems that we are doing something right. I had a look at the views (you click on the "View History" at the article, top right corner and then a bit down click on the "Page view statistics") and so far about 3,200 viewers have seen your new section in the Gotland article. None have protested, so that means we did ok. Even our humble little draft attracted the attention of 210 viewers the first night, and that's not even in the main! So well done.

I have had a look at the text so far and it seems that you have the same difficulties that most newbies have on their first article, so nothing out of the ordinary. In some places it reads more like an essay that an encyclopedia. Don't worry, it is very hard to write in the perfect style the first time around. Encyclopedic articles must be extremely neutral, concise and "timeless". Almost to the point of dry. The style is similar to that of a BBC News presenter and is described in the Wikipedia:Manual of Style also known as MOS. There are some specific words to avoid called peacock words and weasel words, you can read about them at these links. But don't worry about all that now, just continue to write and get all the facts in there first. There will be plenty of time to go over the text and fix it up Wikipedia Style later. Before we release it into the main, I will also solicit the help of a copy editor to go over it. This is how it is normally done. I have articles that have gone through five or six editors before the text was deemed ready for DYKs and GAs. So be prepared to have your words rearranged, substituted, deleted, conformed, in short Wikified. Some new editors are offended by this, but this is all a collaborate effort and we all work for the good of the article. You created this article and is the main contributor, and that is the "glory" you walk away with. :) Cheers, w.carter-Talk 16:23, 16 March 2015 (UTC)

Help in a page

Hi, i'm from Guatemala, i have an interest for edit a page of Sweden in wikipedia in spanish, this is, many users tell me that you are from Sweden, i really need your help because i dont know all the history of protestantism in Sweden, and i dont know about references whit much information, you speack spanish?, also Happy Saint Patrick's Day--Sr.Dickens (talk) 21:06, 17 March 2015 (UTC)

Hello Sr.Dickens! Yes, it's true that I am Swedish and I do speak a little Spanish, but certainly not enough to write anything in an article in Spanish. Sorry. As for the Protestantism and its history in Sweden, it is not an area I am very familiar with. I have tried to find some sources for you and I found that the Swedish Church has a part of its site in Spanish: Bienvenidos a la Iglesia Sueca and since you understand English this might also be of interest Protestantism in the Scandinavian countries it is also available in French if that is easier for you. And there is this and perhaps this. I hope these links can help you some more, All the best, w.carter-Talk 21:29, 17 March 2015 (UTC)
Hi, thanks for the links, I'm new to wikipedia and I need help from someone expert. In the french reference, there are no problem, i know french (no all), a question of curiosity, English is the oficial language of Sweden?--Sr.Dickens (talk) 21:46, 17 March 2015 (UTC)
@Sr.Dickens: If you are new to the Wikipedia, then welcome, I hope you will enjoy it here (or at the Spanish Wiki). No, the official language in Sweden is Swedish, read about it here: es:Idioma sueco, but since so very few people in the world speak Swedish most of us have to learn three more languages in school. We start with English when we are very young (age 7-8), but Sweden is so influenced by English that most kids already know some English by then. After that, we choose the additional langages. I chose French, Spanish and German. Best, w.carter-Talk 21:59, 17 March 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the welcome, i have approx since the last week, my first account, but i want to create an account on es.wiki and en.wiki.--Sr.Dickens (talk) 22:22, 17 March 2015 (UTC)

JMHamo (talk) 14:53, 18 March 2015 (UTC)

@JMHamo: I have no interest whatsoever in this article. It was a user page I helped a newbie create and apparently they misused it to write an autobiography. I have no problem with it being deleted. Best, w.carter-Talk 15:54, 18 March 2015 (UTC)

Is this allowed?

Please have a look at this article, you will laugh! Look at sections where they say - one of his scientist disciple Bhakti Niskama Shanta Swami, Ph.D. wrote a nice summary of the services of ....given links to websites directly that looks like internal link to wp. Complete advertisement stuffs. How come such articles remain untouched on wiki? Or editors fear to touch them? Educationtemple (talk) 23:58, 24 March 2015 (UTC)

@Educationtemple:No, not allowed. They remain untouched because no one has noticed it before. It is a relatively low interest article with few watchers so things like this slip by. Undoubtedly these have been put there by some IP or the like. I have cleaned it up somewhat, let's hope that is the start of taking care of the problem. As it says on Template:External links: "If there are external links within the body of an article (which is almost always inappropriate), ..." and advertising is always inappropriate. Best, w.carter-Talk 00:51, 25 March 2015 (UTC)

I am researching on PM Bhargava these days also known as "Architect of Modern Biology in India". While doing this, I came across this video where this "Muni" is interviewing Bhargava. Such an irritable personality this muni was in this interview. You can listen it, it is in English. Bhargava was so Patience to tolerate this discussion, I could have ended it up on the spot and asked him to leave! That was the reason, I searched about this person "Muni" in google and then came across the page I referred above. What a waste and misuse of resources! Wiki is not the place where they should put advertisement pamphlets. I am so upset to see and listen to the video!! Educationtemple (talk) 05:26, 25 March 2015 (UTC)

@Educationtemple: Try not to get upset when you see something "wrong" on the WP, just calmly correct it. Otherwise you will go into a permanent state of "upsetness" since there are so many things to better or correct here and we don't want you poor computer to have another attack. ;) Cheers, w.carter-Talk 08:42, 25 March 2015 (UTC)

In fact, I am suffering from fever since last 3 days! Taking medicines but there is bit pain in entire body. Also have final exam (only one paper, rest I have cleared) next week for my law. All these together creating a sort of restlessness. I see that several people around have fever these days here in India. Educationtemple (talk) 11:17, 25 March 2015 (UTC)

Sounds like influenza to me. Poor you. :( Drink lots of tea, take care of yourself and don't edit while you have a fever, that is never a good idea. Concentrate on getting well and your exam. Best, w.carter-Talk 11:27, 25 March 2015 (UTC)

Yes, it is flu. But it would be ok. These days, everything has become contaminated, even the milk has not remained pure at least here in India. Obviously, the body become weak accordingly. You too take care my dear friend.. Educationtemple (talk) 14:25, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
