December 2018 edit

Hello, I'm Cyphoidbomb. Wikipedia is written by people who have a wide diversity of opinions, but we try hard to make sure articles have a neutral point of view. Your recent edit to Devadas (2018 film) seemed less than neutral and has been removed. If you think this was a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Diff: [1] There's no such thing as "mixed to positive". "Mixed" means "positive and negative", so "mixed to positive" would mean "positive and negative to positive". This is meaningless phrasing that has been shunned by multiple WikiProjects. Further, we're not interested in editors' analyses of critical or commercial response. Any opinion that you add to the encyclopedia must be directly attributed to the source that said it. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 19:10, 23 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited The Hong Kong Massacre, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page James O'Connor. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Hi there! Thank you for updating Islanders (video game) to include the new Switch release. In the future, can you please make sure to include sources when you make updates like this, especially on Featured Articles like Islanders? Otherwise other editors have to do this work and your work risks being reverted as unsourced. Thanks. ♠PMC(talk) 18:06, 11 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Review table edit

Hi! I am just writing here to remind you that per the instructions in Template:video game reviews, we only include reviews in the review template only if they are cited within the text. That means that a reception section should not only include the review box and nothing else. I have seen that you have systematically included a bunch of reviews into video game articles, some of which only have the review box and nothing else. I just wanted to remind you that our function here is not to serve as Metacritic where we list a bunch of scores. We want to give an overview of the game's reception to the general public. OceanHok (talk) 04:47, 5 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello! I am also here about review tables. I wanted to point out a different issue, though. You are inserting the review template in the middle of sentences, rather than at the very beginning of the section. Sometimes I've found you put them in the entirely wrong section. This IS disruptive and means someone else has to come around and review all your edits and make corrections. PLEASE be more careful. -- ferret (talk) 14:41, 5 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
I have reverted this edit on Forza Horizon 4. It is not helpful. The review section already has little to no text, and it ABSOLUTELY does not need more reviews in the review box. We are not an indiscriminate collection of review scores. OceanHok (talk) 14:29, 6 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

You are still doing this in multiple edits, and have not acknowledged or heeded the advice given here. Please stop creating work for others. It's disruptive. There is a possibility you could be blocked if this continues. -- ferret (talk) 18:16, 13 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Please understand that our functions here is not to be Metacritic. Without text supplementing the review scores, your edits are useless to our readers. Your refusal to engage in discussion and disregard for existing guidelines are concerning. I want to warn you that every single one of your edits since August this year can be reverted simply for breaching the review template guideline. Also please stop adding red links in your citation (some publications are not notable enough to warrant an article). OceanHok (talk) 19:15, 13 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Unneeded duplicates of Video Game Reviews on table and section edit

Removing and muddling up video game reviews on articles and tables. edit

Hello there again. I just noticed on your edits on Tunic (video game) that you were removing video game reviews and also muddling up the order of reviews on the table when they were already supposed to be there to begin with in ALPHABETICAL ORDER. Please DO NOT do this because it's labelled as WP:VD and you WILL be blocked from editing on Wikipedia. Also, please use mm/dd/yyyy on the date and accessdate from the sources as Wikipedia is an American site. And also REMOVE the one from the last and first name on the sources as it does nothing to improve Wikipedia and clutters up the source. I've already reverted your edits on the page as I've already added the reviews on the table. You're free to put prose in, but DO NOT change the video game review sources when they are already added. Neverrainy (talk) 17:39, 17 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I just noticed that you're doing it again on Ghostwire: Tokyo in which you were muddling up the order of the reviews on the table AND the prose when in actual fact they were SUPPOSED to be in ALPHABETICAL ORDER! Please, DO NOT muddle them up again. This is your LAST WARNING, if you do this again, you WILL be BLOCKED from editing any Wikipedia articles. Neverrainy (talk) 23:32, 22 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
Sorry! Please don't block me from editing, I'm genuinely trying to figure things out and noticed that I'd messed the prose up, but I didn't know how to fix it. I implemented the other fixes you told me to, such as the first and last name, mm/dd/yy, accessdate, etc. Once I figure out how this works exactly (and I'm trying, I promise), it won't happen again. Venky64 (talk) 01:05, 23 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
The template automatically lists reviews in an alphabetical order. That's why a review from Game Informer would always have a smaller reference number when you compared to that of a IGN review, regardless of how you actually arrange them in the review box source text. You don't always have to use mm/dd/yy though. The guideline is that we should follow whatever date format the article is already using, though unofficially, an article about a British game uses dd/mm/yy, while an article about an American game uses mm/dd/yy. Making minor formatting errors generally speaking would not result in a block.
@Neverrainy: Venky64 can remove reviews from the table when they are not mentioned in prose. The Guardian and Easy Allies, in fact, should be removed from Tunic's review box since it is not being used. The guideline from Template:video game reviews is very clear about that. Cut-and-paste move edit

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Crossfire Legion a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. * Pppery * it has begun... 15:07, 20 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Sorry! I noticed the move has already been requested by you upon visiting the page. Should I also log an individual request of my own? Venky64 (talk) 15:33, 20 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
No, I did it for you in this specific case. Just something to note for the future. * Pppery * it has begun... 15:40, 20 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

July 2022 edit

Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. Judgment cover edit

Hello. I noticed you added another version of the Judgment cover and reverted. Still, I'm confused by the change. Is it the cover of another region? I changed this due to Wikipedia infobox rules. The original cover art has an M rating from the ESRB with a Sega logo in each bottom corner of the box art.
The rules say to use art without platform decals, such as PC cover art, where possible. --> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Infobox_video_game Venky64 (talk) 20:50, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Cover art edit

Per WP:VGIMAGES, "If the game was released for multiple platforms with a similar cover, art without any platform-related logotypes should be used where possible either from an official source or by editing the cover picture in order to create a platform-neutral picture. The only editing that should be done to the original art to achieve this should be the cropping of platform banners and not the removal of any platform specific logos, publisher logos, 3rd party icons, etc. on the art itself." This means that something like the existing Crystal Crisis art is fine, as it had already removed the PlayStation 4 banner from the top of the image. It is much easier to simply crop the banner off the top of the existing image than to upload new images that are often completely different from the actual cover art. Furthermore, the covers you have been uploading are much too large; images need to be 100,000 pixels or less, so a typical square icon should be no larger than around 315x315. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 16:50, 29 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Sorry! I was completely unaware of low resolution rules until now, and I assumed download icons, even if different from the box art of the games, still counted as official cover art that could viably be uploaded. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Venky64 (talk) 16:57, 29 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
No worries. Generally, while downloadable icons will do in a pinch (like Splatoon 2 or Super Mario Odyssey for example), the proper box art is generally preferred, especially for multiplatform titles, as that's how most people will identify the game. As long as the console banner at the top is cropped out, any other rating or company logos on the cover are fine, so no need to replace stuff like Crystal Crisis or Judgment (video game). (And of course, if the game is only available on one system like Sonic Rush or Infamous 2, it's okay to leave the console banner.) -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 17:08, 29 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Cyberlink420 I just removed Madden NFL 20's box art which had an Xbox One banner on it until now and replaced it with a downscaled version of the cover art used across all platforms. Is this a good example of how to handle this? Venky64 (talk) 12:07, 31 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, more or less. Though next time, I would suggest just uploading it as a new version of the existing file. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 16:54, 31 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi there Venky64, I noticed you included information on the Gloomhaven video game article regarding consoles the videogame will be coming to, but I am unable to find a specific article that details this information. All RS I am able to find say they do not have information as to what specific consoles the port will be released on. The citation on the article actually says Specific platforms were not announced. Do you happen to have the source you received this information from? Otherwise, I will go ahead and remove that specific information from the article. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Monster Jam Steel Titans 2 cover art.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading File:Monster Jam Steel Titans 2 cover art.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Fatal Frame II edit

I'm curious as to your reasoning behind this edit. The Tecmo source seemed more definitive. That was Tecmo US saying "hey, we shipped this game today" versus the GameSpot source, which says they will ship it in 3 weeks. TarkusABtalk/contrib 00:43, 7 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi, it's just that many publishers do not take care to announce what date exactly their games have shipped.
X-Men Legends II from Activision, and Activision in general, are pretty egregious examples of this. Other major publishers such as Electronic Arts and Infogrames usually do not have release announcements consistent with contemporary sources. Other publishers, such as Capcom, are timely and consistent with their issuing of press releases that coincide with them.
https://investor.activisionblizzard.com/news-releases/news-release-details/activisionrs-x2-wolverines-revengetm-explodes-retail-shelves (Publisher announced May 2, every other prominent gaming news site says April 15).
If you go back into the Wayback Machine to verify contemporary reviews at the time, (and thanks for reminding me, apparently the original North American release date listed [distinct from the in-store date], 12/10/2002, was correct https://web.archive.org/web/20040217013533/http://ps2.ign.com/articles/441/441137p1.html, https://web.archive.org/web/20040603193213/http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/adventure/fatalframe2/index.html) it usually gives away the actual release date.
You can check to see if something's off also by the day that it has been shipped. North American games usually ship on Tuesday, with the release date either being the same day, or varying by one day in special cases. Games in Europe ship by Friday, too, with release dates always lining up with that day, except for in special cases.
Pay attention to the ship date by Tecmo. December 14, 2003 was a Sunday. The release does not usually coincide with the weekend except for in special cases.
Past this, you can also check around when reviews of the game started to show up, and most of the major ones start to show up before December 14, as catalogued by the MobyGames page. Venky64 (talk) 02:23, 7 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the detailed explanation. There really is a lot to consider when trying to determine a game's release date. TarkusABtalk/contrib 21:24, 7 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Changing between acceptable styles edit

Please see WP:STYLERET. Arbcom has established that it is unhelpful to change between allowed styles in articles. Flipping between two different styles that are both allowed by guidelines does not improve the article and only leads to frustration among people who prefer the original style. MOS:VG says {{vgrelease}} "may be omitted" in cases where there's a single simultaneous worldwide release. That is not the same thing as "must be removed". Thus, if it's there, it should probably just be left alone. It's not hurting anything, and it's an allowed stylistic choice. I know this is going to seem even more petty, but you also shouldn't use <br> tags for a list of related things. {{plainlist}} and {{ubl}} exist for this purpose. In part, this is an accessibility issue (Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Accessibility says "Do not separate list items with line breaks (<br />"). For example, screen readers don't treat line breaks as list elements, which can be confusing for blind people when they encounter a list of related items (such as release dates). It's not a huge deal, but there's really no reason to ever change that kind of formatting. It can only cause problems, even if they're rare. Internet Archive edit

Internet Archive is not the publisher or work or original URL in a citation case, except the very rare event that we're citing something written and published by IA itself, e.g. their mission statement.

Please actually read the citation template documentation. This citation is off in almost every way: {{Cite web |date=2001-02-11 |title=PSX Nation: News: |url=https://web.archive.org/web/20010211024532/http://www.psxnation.com/news/oldnewsjune99.shtml |access-date=2023-11-03 |website=web.archive.org}} }}

Should be: {{Cite web |date=June 1999 |title=News |website=PSX Nation |url= http://www.psxnation.com/news/oldnewsjune99.shtml |url-status=dead |archive-url= https://web.archive.org/web/20010211024532/http://www.psxnation.com/news/oldnewsjune99.shtml |archive-date=February 11, 2001 |access-date=November 3, 2023}}

A |via=Internet Archive can optionally be added, but usually is not used for web-archival links of this sort, only for things more like IA's archiving of a book.

To run through that example bit by bit: |date= is for the date of the original publication, not an archival date. |title= is the title of the specific page as given by the publication; if it redundantly contains the name of the publication again, that part can be omitted. |website= AKA |work= is for the name of the website (or its domain name like PSXNation.com if it does not have a clear natural-language name); never for the archive host. |url= is always for the original URL, whether it still works or not. |url-status= tells us whether it works or not (and is only used in presence of |archive-url=). The |archive-url= is for the URL at the archiver (Internet Archive in this case). |archive-date= is for the date of that archive (which is what you had put in |date=). You did get |access-date= right. But all of these dates should have been in MDY format not ISO format, because MDY is what is used consistently in the rest of the article.

If your mangled citation was auto-generated by some tool (even one built into our own mobile editor), be aware that these tools often make mistakes (sometimes multiple mistakes per citation) because they are making guesses at what is what in the content; the citations always need to be human-reviewed before saving the changes.

All that said, that page was not the right kind of page to cite as a source in the first place, since it's just a list of headlines and has no article content. You would instead cite a particular article, specifically this one: {{Cite web |date=June 17, 1999 |title=THQ's Ships Ultimate 8 Ball |website=PSX Nation |url= http://www.psxnation.com/news/061799c.shtml |url-status=dead |archive-url= https://web.archive.org/web/20010225234017/http://www.psxnation.com/news/061799c.shtml |archive-date=February 25, 2001 |access-date=November 4, 2023}} I already put that into the article in place of the citation to the headline list.

I realize these citation templates are complex, but you get used to them quickly, and it's important to do so, so you don't make cleanup-work for other editors to do.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  09:39, 4 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

December 2023 original research edit

Hi there. I saw two WP:OR issues today, which you've been advised on before. Here[3] you wrongly marked this as minor, gave no explanation, and gave no update to the given source. Here[4] you contradicted the given source, gave a new source only in an edit summary, and the source is Usenet chat WP:USERGEN. Maybe there's a source from print media somewhere. I'm confused because you're obviously a WP:LIBRARY user who is perfectly aware of reliable sourcing, and have already deleted non-reliable WP:USERGEN sourcing from the same article[5] and others. Thanks. — Smuckola(talk) 02:44, 11 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Lemme go all the way and say thanks for all your amazingly diligent reliable sourcing of release dates and such. That's some major boring stuff, I don't want to do it all day, and I sure hope you're having fun reading about the good old days along the way. I'm also in WP:LIBRARY so let me know if I can help sourcing, and I'll note that WP:LIBRARY has a request board because other people have much wider access to the same databases that WP:LIBRARY has and other databases it doesn't have! — Smuckola(talk) 02:55, 11 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thank you so much for this! I tripped up because I thought Usenet users referencing reps from the company itself could constitute as a legitimate source, but I was wrong. I don't know where to find other information like this, however. I should've given a summary for the previous edits; sorry that I didn't! For Nox specifically, there is no updated source, it mentions in the existing citation that the game shipped February 15, which takes precedence over in-stores date when no official release date due is given due how often it aligns with ship over in-stores date as per WT:VG. I'll be more diligent about revision descriptions for the foreseeable future. Thanks so much for the recognition; compiling all this info thought to be lost or unsalvageable has honestly been really fulfilling! Venky64 (talk) 04:46, 11 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Developers Of Untold Legends edit

Hello Venky64,

I found you via the Edit History section of the Untold Legends Warriors Code wiki, and I was hoping you'd be able to provide some help to me. You see, this game is my childhood and I have played it countless times, however, in each attempt at finishing the game I just can not seem to complete the bestiary section. I have scoured the internet, and all I could find were a few YouTube videos on it, none of which caring to complete the game entirely, and a few discussion threads online which only asked the same questions as me.

So I am wondering, do you by chance know any of the developers, or somehow I can find my way to them? I have tried contacting Sony support and they were unable, and I have tried using the way-back machine but that does not work very well.

If you know anything, please contact me 2763298553

Yeah sure! I don't know of any ways to directly contact them and I'm certainly no expert, but here's a list of all the people that have worked on the game, if that helps at all! You can view the staff's history in the industry by clicking on their names as well!

So f1 23 right of the bat was compatible with linux •Cyberwolf•talk? 15:24, 9 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

It still isn't directly compatible with Linux, otherwise you'd see every other article that is Steam Deck-compatible list Linux under its platforms. Running on Proton doesn't mean there's any native version for Linux. If you want to know the consensus on this matter, consult WikiProject/Videogames at WT:VG. Thanks! I just feel removing it removes valuable information on a directly supported announced on launch by ea that Linux would be supported via proton •Cyberwolf•talk? 17:39, 9 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
That info can be supported in prose, and sure, it is useful info, I completely agree! But the platforms listing has a set of rules to abide by and unfortunately Proton capabilities alone don't make the cut for what goes into the infobox.
Check out articles like Elden Ring, Redfall, or Hitman 3. These are all massively popular games compatible with the Steam Deck, but WikiProject's consensus says that its lack of nativity to the platform is what matters, and why it shouldn't be included.
