Round Rock Higher Education Center

I have re-written the articles about the Round Rock Higher Education Center. They are no longer copywrighted. I am new to Wikipedia and would appreciate your guidance if I am still not following the copywright rules. I am a graduate assistant at the RRHEC and I am just trying to update the information on this page. All the information on there has not been updated since 2009 and is no longer correct. —Preceding unsigned comment added by RRHECbobcats (talkcontribs) 16:30, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

Quite honestly, the article is poor. There should be a lot more references cited in the article. The academics section has no context in terms of what those degrees are: are they degrees offered only at the RRHEC campus? are they degrees that can be earned in their entirety at the RRHEC campus? Where did that list come from? If you are a graduate student and you really want to do a good job on the article, treat the article like a research paper you are going to publish to a major journal. Cite your facts, format it well, and look at the wealth of information at the top of your talk page. --TreyGeek (talk) 22:35, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

It's a work in progress. I plan on making edits and adding to the content a little every day, so just have a little patience. My main goal was to simply remove the incorrect and out-of-date information first. —Preceding unsigned comment added by RRHECbobcats (talkcontribs) 16:43, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

Wat up

Hey, I read what you said, but those fights I have edited is not a future fight. Actually, it is my bad, i dd not put a reference, but like i said, they are not future fights, but real announced fights. (AaronBok (talk) 15:45, 26 June 2011 (UTC))

Stop changing it.... it is slated for that event... it will happen in about a week, so stop. (AaronBok (talk) 14:37, 27 June 2011 (UTC))

Aight homie, i will, sorry for my inconvenience. boi. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AaronBok (talkcontribs) 16:04, 27 June 2011 (UTC)

Future fights in a fighter's record table

My English is not so good for open discussions yet. Maybe if a few months. Thanks for invitation anyway :)

But for now page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:MMA says: “Never add non-officially announced bouts. Wikipedia is not the place for rumors or speculation. Any future bout that is not referenced within the body text will also be removed”. So officially announced future bouts can be added.

Personally I find information about officially announced future bouts useful. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PashaTarsius (talkcontribs) 21:46, 29 June 2011 (UTC)

Re: Reliable sources

I agree with your concern over using good sources for the women's mma section. However to be honest, I am unable to find any reliable sources other then blog and forum posts. If you have any suggestions, I will gladly take them into consideration. Ghost563 2:32PM EST 6/30/2011

For your work creating MMABot. Phospheros (talk) 23:14, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

You and your gang win

I'll stop making any effort at all on the mma articles. I'll delete them from my watchlist. Since you jfgslo, and phosperos are completely in charge. I'm sorry that I tried to open a true discussion and consensus. My bad. You three can continue to own the article and push other editors out. Thank for teaching me that valuable lesson. BrendanFrye (talk) 06:38, 1 July 2011 (UTC)

It's not about winning and losing. If you notice, once someone did raise an argument, I did stop trying to enforce the past consensus. I tried to make an effort to discuss the issue and not get combative about it. I hardly own MMA articles or the project. For many months out of the year I am an inactive editor thanks to graduate school, work, and trying to start a business. I have been around in one form or another for three years, so I come with knowledge of past discussions. That knowledge may have pushed the others into a quick decision regrading the recent controversy. You were on Wikipedia while that, albeit short, discussion took place. I know others have not backed off in enforcement of the past consensus, but I cannot control them just as I cannot control you.
I think you'll agree, perhaps for different reasons, is that working on MMA articles can be very frustrating. Anon IPs and immature users can cause havoc and not give a shit about maintaining the quality of articles. Aside from pure vandalism they'll add in any little bits of trivia, excessive commentary on matches, and loads of unsourced material. Then when you removed the unsourced material, try to follow Wikipedia policy, they complain, most often with the argument "It doesn't look good that way" or "I don't like it". And that's before we get into the drama and heated discussions that active, dedicated, and concerned editors like you and I can have. I too sometimes regret trying to work on MMA articles, there is less drama with the mainframe articles (at least there they just argue over NPOV and making articles not sound like IBM adverts).
Anyhow, I honestly do hope you are able to take a step back, perhaps WP:Breathe, calm down and come back. --TreyGeek (talk) 13:00, 1 July 2011 (UTC)

More apparent sockpuppetry

OK, MMA25MMA claims not to be Steve14orhs but now there are at least two more new user names created 7/8/11 that are doing the exact same kinds of edits: Tickets123 and Lilwayne432 (Update, I'll add more here as I find them Rcowboy11). So far nothing is being added to the infobox and the UFC link is not being place ahead of the subject's homepage. It's just adding the official UFC link or adding the word "Official" to existing UFC profile links. I personally don't have a problem with these edits qua edits (though I understand your argument against having UFC links at all) but I figured I'd give you a heads-up in case you wanted to watch these accounts more closely. They are all quacking pretty loudly as sockpuppets as I'm sure a check user would easily confirm, if you wanted to pursue that avenue. SQGibbon (talk) 22:50, 8 July 2011 (UTC)

It's quacking pretty loud to me looking at the times of edits, type of edits, and account creations. It's been a while since I've started a sockpuppet investigation. I'll start on that in a little bit. Thanks for the heads up. --TreyGeek (talk) 23:16, 8 July 2011 (UTC)
And he's back but now editing as an IP 208.95.109.178. I've already reported it to SPI and changed/reverted most of his edits. What's even more interesting is that the IP geolocates to Las Vegas which is where UFC is headquartered. This confirms the COI we suspected in the first place and the promotional editing. SQGibbon (talk) 17:58, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
Steve14orhs as much as admitted he worked for the UFC on the MMA project talk page. He claimed he was not the same person as MMA25MMA. It looks like the admins ran a checkuser on him and found they were using the same IP address and found all the other IPs. The admins were quick to resolve it last time. They'll likely do another checkuser and if the IP matches or is close to the other IP they may do a range block. We'll see. Thanks for the update. --TreyGeek (talk) 23:39, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
Yep, BrianStannFan (talk · contribs) is making it too obvious. SQGibbon (talk) 01:12, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
Update: I've spot-checked a number of his edits and they seem to be OK this time through (i.e., not messing with the infobox or rearranging the UFC link to be first) so I haven't reported him for being a sock. I did leave a templated message on his talk page to, at the very least, let him know that we know what's going on. SQGibbon (talk) 08:18, 28 July 2011 (UTC)

If that's true, add it to the prose of the article and add a citation to "almost every MMA site in existence." --TreyGeek (talk) 00:57, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

Dream.17

The name of the event is wrong. You need to change the page of Dream.17 to DREAM: Japan GP Final. Then the link will be blue. I could care less if the link is red, as long as the info is correct.

I don;t have the ability to change page titles yet. NuclearSun (talk) 20:22, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

Just look at the poster for the event, no mention of Dream.17. Because it is called DREAM: Japan GP Final. Totally different from Fight for Japan!

Dream.17 is an event that is going to be held in September. It will be the beginning of the World Bantamweight Grand Prix. NuclearSun (talk) 20:30, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

Ok a lot of sites including MMAjunkie and Sherdog all have originally incorrectly named it Dream.17. But when you actually got to the page about that event, "dream.17" doesn't appear on the page. I'm not trying to vandalize wikipedia, I love what the community does with keeping all the info straight. But i know for a fact Dream.17 has not happened yet. NuclearSun (talk) 20:38, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

Go to an individual fighters record on Sherdog, they don't call this event Dream.17.NuclearSun (talk) 20:40, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure both events were a part of the "Fight for Japan" to help Japan with the recent natural disasters/nuclear disaster. It'd make it a lot easier if i could read Japanese ha. But i know with all official dream posters the name is clearly on it. This on states Fight For Japan small up top, and then Dream Japan GP final. I remember EVERYONE calling it Dream.17 until Dream announced 17 for september. NuclearSun (talk) 21:04, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

Thanks!! NuclearSun (talk) 21:15, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

Dream 17 article rename

Hey, I've been editing the DREAM articles for years now. If you look at the previous ones the names are only Dream 1, Dream 2, etc. The subtitles are on the page but not in the official name. Here I named it exactly like the consensus from the previous FFJ event. However, since it has the same name, the 2 was necessary.(Justinsane15 (talk) 23:13, 27 July 2011 (UTC))

Req for Admin Help with an old non-listed AfD

{{adminhelp}} The other day I became informed about an Afd: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Cruiserweight (MMA) (3rd nomination). After putting my comments on the AfD I noticed that it had not been created correctly. I added the appropriate AfD template to the page and put it on one of the sorting lists. What I'm noticing now is that the creator of the page also failed to list it on the main AfD list. I'm afraid that it will get overlooked since it's it's not listed anywhere and there is a long list of AfDs in the category pages. What is the best way to ensure that the admins working on AfDs will get around to this one? Thanks --TreyGeek (talk) 14:01, 13 August 2011 (UTC)

Working on it.... more in a sec. --joe deckertalk to me 14:42, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
Done It looks like (and I'll double check this) it just never got added to the logs by day. Or perhaps it did and something went wrong a couple weeks back. I've added it to the new discussions startting today. I was tempted to close it, but since it hasn't been visible to general participation (I'm guessing) so far, I'll err on the side of giving it extra time. --joe deckertalk to me 14:49, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
It's been pretty well hidden and only been seen by people monitoring the martial arts deletion list, so "re-listing" it sounds good. Thanks for your help. --TreyGeek (talk) 16:12, 13 August 2011 (UTC)

Sherdog

Look if you are going to revert back to the sherdog record then at least use the sherdog information on the record, there is a fight missing on the table. You go on about me not using sources and references, i use them and then you fail to justify why i cannot use those specific sources. i Will try and see what i can do by referencing http://www.prowrestlinghistory.com/ properly. The main reason i created this wikipedia page was because Sherdog was unreliable, so i am not going to back down easily. Plus i have seen many pages on wikipedia full of information and not one source! Although it is this page that keeps being reverted.ClaudioProductions (talk) 14:47, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

If you want to add the missing fight from Sherdog and properly source professional fights from Sherdog that's fine. I have no problem with that. I am curious why you are reverting all of my other changes. I have been improving references by using the {{cite}} tag, you reverted those. I have been denoting those references which are now dead, you reverted those. I removed text that was directly copy/pasted from other websites in violation of copyright laws and Wikipedia policy, you reverted that. I have removed sources that do not provide verification of the sentence/section it was next to, you reverted that. I have performed copy-edits to fix capitalization and date issues, you reverted that. I changed the MMA record table to use the templates as provided by the MMA Wikiproject, you reverted that. Can you explain why you made all these reverts and did not use edit summaries? --16:15, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

MMA Notability

I know you're on a bit of a break from WP, but I thought you might want to know that user Bigzmma proposed his own notability guidelines at WT:MMA. Bigzmma is a user who has a history with almost people like Osubuckeyeguy and myself (you can read about his blocks at WP:ANI and his diatribes at me at both WP:MMANOT, WT:MMANOT and WT:MMANOT). He's pretty much made me want to quit WP, but I trust your judgment. Papaursa (talk) 01:35, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

I've been peering in on the MMA Project and related pages every few days. I've seen Bigzmma's pontificating, but it result in a WP:TL;DR issue for me. As an FYI for you (and anyone else who comes across my talk page) I just finished my semester of graduate school (today in fact). I should have time to be more active in discussions and running MMABot again. I'll take a look to see if there is anything new on WP:MMANOT and put my comments in if I think it is necessary. Thanks for checking in with me Papaursa. --TreyGeek (talk) 05:17, 3 December 2011 (UTC)
To come back and readdress your feelings of wanting to quit WP, I can certainly understand. I look back and realize I created my account almost four years ago (almost an eternity for editors ;). There have been many times I have become frustrated with the politics of WP, the debates with fellow WP:MMA editors, and the hassles of dealing with anon IPs. While I have taken breaks from WP off and on, I have not given up. I guess it comes down to a desire to want to do what I can to offer my advice, opinions, and edits to better MMA, Mainframe, and other articles. If you feel the debate with Bigzmma (talk · contribs) and with others has been too much, I will certainly understand. Online hassles are not worth real life enjoyment. With that in mind I hope that no interaction on WP drives a person away and that truly beneficial editors will not leave purely because of WP-strife. I guess in a way that's why I come back when I have a chance. --TreyGeek (talk) 05:41, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

Recreation of John Albert (fighter)

Hey there. A few days ago you contacted me about the recreation of an article which had been to AfD and been redirected, then has been recreated with better content. My advice is if it is still not notable, yes put it to deletion somehow, and the how in this situation is to take it up to AfD again because it's a proper article. But at a look at it, I wouldn't, because it has improved immensely and is now part of a proper series of articles (see navbox at the bottom of the page). It's properly referenced, so I'd leave it. Sorry for the wait for the reply. Best, Rcsprinter (articulate) 17:40, 10 December 2011 (UTC)

No, I'm not a bot. However, changing a MMA fighter's record to something that is incorrect, as you are doing, is unconstructive and can be considered vandalism. If you disagree with a fighter's record, provide a source in the article to back up your claims. --TreyGeek (talk) 01:39, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
Well it says he fought this guy Doug Viney on the page, and 7-9 by the record as well as in the MMA fighter profile on the page, but it wasnt in the record box. Do you want me to remove that? I was just going off what the page said... 97.96.148.105 (talk) 01:51, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
Nope, you go by what you have a verifiable source for. According to Sherdog, McSweeny did not fight "Doug Viney" and Sherdog has no record of a "Doug Viney". Looks like someone added in a fake fight. I've removed it. --TreyGeek (talk) 01:57, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
