And kudos to you, but edit warring can occur regardless of whether or not 3RR is violated. 3RR is simply a measure of whether or not an edit war is going on, but it is not the only measure. Looking at the edit history shows that you and Kurzon have been going back and forth with each other, and regardless of who is to blame, I think it would do both of you some good to step away from the article for a while. I'm sorry but i don't agree with that for the fact that she was the world's oldest person for 4 or 5 months so there would only be around 3-4 people a year. Albanians in Serbia

I see that you added the material I recently removed from this article. I don't believe it belongs here, but I wanted to talk to you about it before reverting. The material was improperly copied into this article over a year ago from Albanians in Kosovo. I understand the political overtones in having the material in one article v. another. Your comment in the Serbian-Americans talk page

I was checking that talk page to see if anyone had maybe listed new data to a question I had posed a few months ago and I saw your comment there. I thought it was interesting.

I've never before seen someone else write about an "American ethnicity" the same way I have thought about it. I know that the Southeast has the greatest number of people declaring their ethnicity as American, but I think this ethnic label would apply to the majority of racially White Americans and not just those in the Southeast. The Americans (outside of the South) that descended from pre-20 c. immigrants from the UK, Ireland, and Germany seem to have substantially = meshed together into a "White ethnic group", not just racially, but ethnically as well.

The only cultural differences between ethnic Whites of the North (where 19c. immigrants mostly settled) and those of the South is that the South still experiences religion and social conservatism as very influential forces on daily life. Where for the more recent ethnic Whites, this is not the case (e.g. in the North). So, the distinctive cultural aspects of the South have not been adopted by the ethnic Whites of the North even with several centuries having passed. I do not want to make false generalizations, however this is my sense of the average situation in those regions based on my travels and time spent living here.

The areas where distinct ethnic identity has been conserved is in the major cities. The city-centred ethnic groups in the US have preserved a substantial part of their culture in absence of preserving their language (for the most part). A few well-known examples would be the Irish- and Italian-Americans of the Northeast. So long as their numbers are high enough to have a large enough community - cultural traditions endure. What I am getting at is that so long as a Ukrainian-American stays in a major city s/he has no reason to be forced into completely adopting a new ethnicity. S/he won't have to abandon the culture of his/her community. If s/he were to move to an area in the Southeast, then it would be a completely different story.

I'd like to give you a further illustration - the Poles of Chicago. Most arrived somewhere between the 1850s and 1940s or so. Many have had families there for well over a century. There has been very limited migration out of Chicagoland for this period and the Polish community there has remained extremely strong. So there is not much past observation that would suggest that cities are only an entry point from which ethnic communities later break-down as they go their own ways.

I've written all of this to demonstrate how the "ethnic Americans" and people who ethnically (not racially, but ethnically) identify as "White" are distinct ethnically from the more recent (post-1850) European ethnic communities in the major cities. I find it all very interesting. The only problem that sometimes arises is when individuals do not make the distinction between an "Ameican"/"US citizen" and an "ethnic American" and in so doing sometimes end up labeling certain individuals as being un-American. These people, that do not make the distinction, show frustration when a person does not abandon his/her culture and adopt their own. This is of course on an individual-by-individual basis and I would not generalize this in any way to any region or sub-region.

I've seen ethnic hostilities projected towards myself or family/friends from people of all sorts of backgrounds. I've seen it demonstrated by Southerners, New Yorkers, and even Jews in South Florida. By the way, most of the time my ethnicity (and that of family/friends) would have been indeterminable by those people. I'm saying this because I don't want to suggest that any particular regional group of Americans is more racist/discriminant than another region. I've spent a lot of time in South Florida and the racist attitudes that come from some of the people there have been really surprising at times especially when you take into account that many of those racists that I have come across would themselves been the target of racism less than 50 years ago. Its all unfortunate and these types of racist, discriminatory, and nationalistic attitudes are probably present in most countries.

The good part about our differences is that ethnic Americans and newer Americans have no trouble in cooperating with one another when it comes to maximizing profit. This is not the case in say many areas of the former Yugoslavia or in the areas where ex-Yugoslavs have settled throughout the Western world.

Sorry for the lack of brevity. Your comment was interesting and I wanted to expand on it. Also, I want you to know that none of the above is meant to be offensive towards any group or the US or the US as a whole. Usually when I do say something negative about this country it is only in attempt to point out what can be done to make it better and the solution almost always comes down to changing attitudes and beliefs...

Hey dude, I applaud your initiative with adding the kits to the above article, but I'm not sure that the kits have actually been decided yet. IIRC, when the home kits clash, they toss a coin to see which team gets to choose what kit they want to wear. I've tried telling them that Pro Serbia editors will never agree to the Kosovo article been only about the Rep of Kosovo because that is biased and POV. Serbia Map

You are the third person to revert the change I made to the map on the Serbia article, without commenting. If you do not explain why you are removing the map, and discuss it on the talk page, your edits may be mistaken for vandalism. Wikipedia is based on consensus. That means editors need to work together. I don't really care what the map on the Serbia article is. But I saw discussion supporting it, asked for opinions, and no one gave me any. It seems reasonable to mark Kosovo, since it is excluded from some of the statistics in the infobox, but formal UN boundaries carry a lot of weight too. As I mentioned, I don't care what happens with the map. But I do care if people are reverting other editors changes without comment. I like to think of the wiki process as a bouncing spring. Ideas, decisions, and arguments bounce back and forth, side to side, slowly but surely loosing energy as both sides compromise, eventually settling somewhere in the middle (ideally, at perfect neutrality). This is why so many highly controversial subjects (with lots of editors with lots of different opinions) have very good articles, the metaphorical spring moves much faster, and thus, settles much faster, whereas more out of the way articles with few editors might bounce back and forth very slowly, taking years to calm down. In the case of the map, at some point there is going to have to be a decision for all these types of article about how to deal with disputed regions. More generally, it isn't so important to deal with everything at once, and create a perfect article, with perfect consensus. Piece by piece, edit by edit, each article will get there, so long as there is discussion to beget compromise. Look at the short term, the single issues, and gradually there will be less and less issues left. Prodego ^talk 05:26, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

SqueakBox's ninja move was invalid, and nothing should have been gained from it. It was "unilaterally" done, "while a discussion remain[ed] under way." There had been no consensus for the move. Tocino was right to revert it.

When editors cheat and get away with it, editors -- that want the rules followed -- may leave.

There's also been a fair amount of sneaky vandalism -- changing small details like the numbers of caps etc. Once it's protected, you might consider sifting through that lot, or else reverting to an earlier version before the present madness began and then building up the transfer story again from scratch using reliable sources. 28 was probably right, then. While a page is under attack, you sometimes have to take your best guess about whether an edit is vandalism, and then go back and check your own work afterwards. In this case, User:Jenningson had previously vandalized this statistic here and have vandalized the article several other times, so I (wrongly) assumed that this edit was also vandalism. I have just written the following text:

"He is an Ukrainian politician. His original name is Сергій Тiгiпко, which is written in Latin alphabet as Serhiy Tihipko (Ukrainian, Polish, Czech, Hungarian, German, English, etc.) or Sergei Tigipko (Russian form). Letter [г] means [h] in Ukrainian, and [g] in Russian. So, for example, Адольф Гітлер is pronounced as Adolf Hitler in Ukrainian, and Adolf Gitler in Russian.

By the way, Tihipko's first name is Сергій (Ukrainian Serhiy), not Сергей (Russian Sergey or Sergei).

Ukrainian names are used for places in Ukraine by English language media and scholars these days

In English Wikipedia we do not use Kharkov but Kharkiv (to reflect common English usage & for consistency within this article + others + the Wikipedia article on Kharkiv). The same goes for Dnipropetrovsk and Luhansk. I also noticed that media in English but from Russia still uses the Russian names for these cities (Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk and Lugansk), but in doing so produce faulty English articles. — Yulia Romero • Talk to me! 23:51, 17 March 2014 (UTC)
