– and –

Hi, in the article Mladen Petrić you replaced in the infobox "–" with "–" which is quite useless as it displays the same character and clutters up the source code unnecessarily. --Jaellee (talk) 17:44, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Velez Mostar

I've reverted again my edit, as your seemed to be the right one. The history part (Performances, by Nation) will be reffered to the teams with their present nation status (Velez Mostar @ Bosnia, FK Vardar @ FyroM etc) but in the FINALS table they'll be refered in they nation they were each year (ΦΚ Vardar at Yugoslavia until 1991 etc). This practically means the article must remain as it is in the team nations status. What do you think about it? I'll also try some details about each years tournament in RSSSF.com. Greetings :) --KaragouniS (talk) 21:36, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Euro 2008 standings

Portugal and Croatia can be level on points with the Czech's and Germany which means Goal Difference is the 1st tiebreaker. They both might be leading on both right now but could lose out. Kingjeff (talk) 18:27, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

I see you're from Croatia. For the record, I want to state that the referee gave you guys the victories against Austria and Germany. Kingjeff (talk) 23:40, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Portugal and Croatia

how are they winners?

Assume, though unlikely, Portugal loses against Switzerland 0-4 and the Czech wins agains turkey 5-0

the standings will be

Team Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
  Czech Republic 3 2 0 1 7 3 +4 6
  Portugal 3 2 0 1 5 5 0 6

The same applies for group B

Even though those chances are unlikely, Wikipedia has to assume all possibilities before writing anything in stone.. This makes portugal runner-up not winner of their group --mo-- (Talk | #info |   ) 18:30, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Alright, if you say so... anyways the Netherlands and France are playing now and the Netherlands is gonna win... --mo-- (Talk | #info |   ) 18:42, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
The Dutch look good this year, they might win the Euro, but on the other hand, I wouldn't write off France yet :-) Timbouctou (talk) 18:46, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Reliable source for Montenegrin football needed...

Hello Timbouctou,

do you have an idea where I can find a good and reliable source for every-day use on Montenegrin football? It does not necessarily need to be written in English; I'd even prefer some native language (Serbian???) site over an English one. Cyrillic letters also would not be a problem. Thanks, Hockey-holic (talk) 14:34, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

Croatia again...

Yeah I understand its fine that you reverted....although please note that the last version that I just did contained a significant amount of beneficial edits which are much better...seriously! I added in ton of new references to statements which were really lacking. Please go back to that version and merely take out what you think is unnecesary or bad statements, but the majority of the edit is extremely vital! Molim te! Domiy (talk) 09:35, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Mirko Kokotović = Miroslav Kokotović?

Hi! I have a simple question for you as are Croatian: Do you think Mirko Kokotović who was a Yugoslav/Croatian football managers is the Miroslav Kokotović here or the Kokotovic there. The question is: is it the same guy?? It would help me if you find an answer...Thanks!--Latouffedisco (talk) 18:02, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I believe they are one and the same. Kokotović's profile at the Serbian football federation site says that after retiring Mirko Kokotović spent some time coaching in Turkey, Greece and Cyprus. Although it doesn't state which clubs, it's very likely that it's the same Kokotović mentioned in the lists of Fenerbahce and AEK managers, and "Mirko" is often a shortened version of the name "Miroslav" which is very common in Croatia. Timbouctou (talk) 18:08, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks a lot! I think I'll create a redirect and add the information on his page. Cheers.--Latouffedisco (talk) 18:20, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Prva HNL 2008-09

Competing in other championships

Timbouctou, what shall we do here [3] and [4]?
These clubs are obviously from the territory of Republic of Serbia.
Shall we create a new category for clubs that competed in championships of other countries?
What about clubs that ceased to exist before the establishing of certain country on particular territory? Bye, Kamarad Walter (talk) 21:39, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

I assume that you are wondering why I removed NK Bačka 1901 and HŠK Građanski (Zemun) from "Croatian football clubs" category. I did it simply because, in my opinion, the categories which list football clubs by country are intended to do just that - to organize groups of clubs which are (or were) based on today's territory of countries as they appear today. Including clubs from places which were once part of Croatia, or including clubs which were explicitly Croatian in character opens up a whole world of unnecessary issues and dilemmas. If that was the case, should we list Ponziana Trieste as a Yugoslav club because they competed in the Yugoslav championship in years after WWII when Trieste was occupied by Yugoslavia? Should we list all clubs from Bosnia and Herzegovina as Croatian since the whole country used to be part of Independent State of Croatia, and does that mean that all clubs from Istria and northern Dalmatia (including Hajduk Split) should be listed as Italian? Should Welsh clubs who compete in English leagues be categorized as English? Furthermore, if we try to claim that Bačka and Građanski Zemun are Croatian as they were founded and operated by Croatian communities, does that mean that we should also list Croatian football clubs from Canada, Australia and United States? The point is, I think if the club is or was based on the territory which is present-day Serbia, than it should be listed primarily as a Serbian club. However, if you wish to discuss this further, I guess we could ask around at WikiProject Football talk page. Cheers Timbouctou (talk) 06:43, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

depopulating a category

Hi. Thanks for your work to improve Wikipedia. Please don't depopulate a category by moving all its articles to a different category name. Instead, please use Wikipedia:Categories for discussion to propose renaming the original category. This preserves the edit history and allows other people to give their input. I definitely think the category should be Category:Dinamo Zagreb managers, not Category:NK Dinamo Zagreb managers. Likewise with the article name. Again, thanks for working so hard to improve these football articles. — Reinyday, 15:44, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

Opinion welcomed

Soccer-holic and I are trying to improve league articles in general, especially when talking about colors used in league standings. We are thinking that codes (colors) should be unified and used in the same way in all articles. So take a look at this Soccer-holic's subpage: User:Soccer-holic/League season article, which explains parts which every league articles should consist of, as well as using the colors in the right order and code. Please leave your comments and improvements (if needed) so we can take the final proposal to the community on Wikipedia:WikiProject Football.

Prva HNL 2009-10

Timbouctou (talk) 21:14, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

Marijan Zovko

Hi. Listen, I´ve made this page, Marijan Zovko, but I have some doubts that someone with knoledge of Croatian football, like you, couls help me. My doubts are: He´s maynly called Marijan, but I´ve also finded some places where is written Marjan. It´s Marijan, wright? Another is about his coaching career. I´ve searched everything possible in the net, but I only finded the teams I´ve put in the page. Do you know more? Anyway, if you have time chek it out, if not thanx anyway. Pozdrav. FkpCascais (talk) 19:51, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi, I believe he is called Marijan. Here's a link to statistics for Hajduk's 1978-79 season and on the right you can see the list of appearances that season. Zovko is clearly listed as Marijan, and anyway there are many more hits on the internet with Marijan than with Marjan. As for other clubs he might have coached I'll look into it. Timbouctou (talk) 21:02, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
Also, I found out that he resigned his job at Marsonia on 1 November 2000 (he was appointed on 28 August 2000), and that he seems to be currently managing the 3.HNL side MV Croatia based in Slavonski Brod. Timbouctou (talk) 21:09, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
Many, many thanx. For old Yugoslav leagues I´m generally using the Zerodic website, wich has the stats of the 1 and 2 Yu leagues somewhere from the 70´s until 1991. It´s mostly correct (I did find some mistakes like names, years...). I made also some other Croatian footballer pages like: Željko Vuković, Ivan Cvjetković, Ivo Šeparović, Slavko Šurdonja, Davor Čop (for now, maynly the ones that played in Serb clubs and were missing in eng wiki) and I hope making soon more like Armando Marenzi, curiously I finded on net 3 ways of writting his surname:Marenci, Marenzi and Marenzzi. As I´ve noteced you´re the "master" of cro-nogomet, and you´re responsable, please feel free to complete or correct, if necessary, those pages. Thanx again. FkpCascais (talk) 23:41, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Article moves

E.g. for Maksimir Stadium you stated that you were "moving to the original name, the way the stadium is called in Croatian". But that is precisely the reason not to name it "Stadion Maksimir" - one can hardly expect that it will be called anything other than "Maksimir Stadium" in English. There are English-language sources on the stadium, therefore WP:UE applies. The same goes for other stadiums, more or less. GregorB (talk) 12:41, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

I must say that the lists of Spanish, French and Italian stadiums are a compelling argument, because - in my view - it's usually better to break the rules than to introduce inconsistencies. (Even if e.g. the Russian list shows a different pattern for some reason.) While my understanding of WP:ENGLISH is that it's a general rule that is applicable to all proper names, including stadium names, I'll defer to whatever is accepted practice within the scope of WP Football.
On a (somewhat) related note: it's not that I like what WP:ENGLISH seems to suggest, e.g. in dilemmas such as
  1. a) "Moja štikla" or b) "Moja Štikla"
  2. a) Parni valjak or b) Parni Valjak
  3. a) Goran Ivanišević or b) Goran Ivanisevic
...WP:MOS seems to suggest - AFAIK - 1a, 2b (apparently, see Talk:Parni Valjak), 3b, but I'd go with a in all three cases (and I think you'd agree). Oh well... GregorB (talk) 18:15, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

Edit Summaries

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Doing so helps everyone to understand the intention of your edit. It is also useful when reading the edit history of the page. Thank you. Hi

Hi Timbuctou. I hope you´re Ok. I made this new page, Franjo Rupnik, and I have some questions you could answer me. The first is about his club, NK Proleter Osijek, wich is, as I found out, one of the predecessors of today´s NK Osijek. My question is: should he be included in ther NK Osijek players category? What you think? Another question has to do with the "cosmetic" presentation of the clubs in the infoboxes. For instance, Rupnik played in HŠK Concordia, so what you think that would be more apropriate to be written in the infobox: HŠK Concordia or Concordia Zagreb ? I also couldn´t find the time period he played there, only that was prior to the WWII... About the club naming, I personally don´t like very much the current use of "minimazing" the club names... Specially in city name clubs like NK Zagreb or NK Osijek, or other one word names, I tend to leave the NK´s or FK´s depending on the case. Another thing, I made a gigantic list of foreigners: User:FkpCascais/Sandbox. Could you chek it and see if there are any missing, specially from Croatia in the 90´s? I also wanted to ask you if you know more foreigners from the Yu-Kingdom period? Sorry if I´m anoing you with all my questions, and I also wanted to thank you and congratulate you for your exellent work in the Yugoslav First League seasons pages. Regards FkpCascais (talk) 22:19, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
