Orphaned non-free media (Image:20 petric ddp 300.jpg)
editThanks for uploading Image:20 petric ddp 300.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:02, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Image:NikolaKalinicinterviewphoto.jpg
editA tag has been placed on Image:NikolaKalinicinterviewphoto.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free image with a clearly invalid licensing tag; or it otherwise fails some part of the non-free content criteria.
If you can find a valid tag that expresses why the image can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the current tag with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the article name that the image is used in tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the image. If the image has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Providing misleading information about image sources
editHi, please don't provide misleading information about images you "took yourself". Your image Modrictraining12 is a blatant copyright violation from [1]. I'll be watching your contributions from now on and if you continue to upload copyrighted images and provide misleading information about the source, you will eventually be banned, since Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously. It it very possible to find free images of football players, just look at commons:User:Jacoplane/gallery#Football to see some that I have uploaded. Cheers, JACOPLANE • 2008-06-30 23:13
Your recent edits
editHi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Image source problem with Image:Croatia vienna.jpg
editThanks for uploading Image:Croatia vienna.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 03:36, 25 July 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. dave pape (talk) 03:36, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

Croatia football team
editHi, I've noticed you were on a "slight rewording" spree again, and you added a new paragraph that basically boils down to trivia in the article. Please stop rewording sections of the article that have already been proofread by more experienced editors, and in the future please consult others using the article's talk page before including new information, so that you can get some feedbeck as to whether a certain piece of info is really worthy of inclusion or not. I understand that you're very enthusiastic about improving the article - which is great - but by adding every single thing you can think of, and massacring English syntax every now and then doesn't really help. No offense man, but just take it easy a bit, take a look at other team's articles and try to get a feeling for what usually gets included and what doesn't - as well as the language and expressions normally used in sports writing. When you have a moment, could you clarify your comments at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/2005 Azores subtropical storm? We are all a little confused by what you mean. Do you think that there should be a limit on how many FAs can be written on any given topic? You also make some references to notability, which is not really a part of the featured article criteria. As long as the article is comprehensive (and this one is) I believe that it is acceptable, but a discussion on that matter would be welcome. Plasticup T/C 18:11, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
Inline translated refs
editYes, your example on my talk page is a perfectly reasonable way to go about it. You could also just provide the translations on the talk page, with a note that you're leaving them there in case anyone needs them. You might consider including the original text as well as the translation. After all, a few readers will understand Croatian.
As for using inline refs: It's really fairly simple. You just take the same text that you'd use for the regular citation, but instead of putting it at the end, under ==References==, you put it in the article, and put after it. (What's confusing is trying to use the citation templates for inline refs, but those are strictly optional.)
Under ==References==, with this approach, then you need to put a note to the Wiki software about listing all the refs. You can use reflist for small type, or <references/> for large type.
If it's a ref that you expect to use repeatedly, then you name it: needed after it.)
Finally, if that sort of inline ref isn't your preference, then you might prefer what some people call "Harvard style" references, or Author-date-page references. For that, you skip all the <ref> stuff, and just put plain text at the end of a statement like this:
- The moon is big (Smith 2008:25).
That means that you found this information in a publication written by someone whose last name is Smith, published in 2008, on page 25. Then you put a regular alphabetized list of citations at the bottom of the page, and the reader just scans down to see who Smith is if the reader is interested. This "parenthetical style" is easy to type, and it puts less clutter in the middle of your article, so some people strongly prefer it.
Remember that any complete, organized and understandable system of references is supposed to be accepted at FAC, not just the one that seems most common on Wikipedia articles. Good luck, WhatamIdoing (talk) 03:41, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

editHi. I guess you're new around here. First, there is no fixed standard for tables. The current template that is popular is in my view not particularly good or complete. Second, the table in question is not difficult to read or edit. Third, Thierry Henry, the only recent FA on a soccer player, uses a similar table. Fourth, these tables have been used for a very long time, for almost four years already. Chensiyuan (talk) 05:50, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

Croatia national football team
editI'll leave you an individual message rather than a reply at WT:FAC. However, regarding Croatia national football team and your bid to get it to WP:FAC, if you aren't successful this team, I would suggest at the very least getting a good peer review in and trying to get assistance from other editors by seeing the list of peer review volunteers but also listing it on the relevant project pages, particularly WP:FOOTY. It's far easier to get an article to FA status if you have gained general consensus and it's a more polished effort for it.
Also, another editor at WT:FAC suggested going to WP:GA. It's not a bad suggestion but depending on what kind of review you get there it may be a wasted effort, if you're intend to push on to another FA bid anyway. Peanut4 (talk) 09:09, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
- My other suggestion would also be to bite your tongue a little. I've found that certain areas of here is governed by politics. Be nice and people are nice back to you. If someone suggests changes at FAC, either simply make them or come up with a reasoned argument as to why not and it should help. Anyway like I say, GA and PR, and also seek assistance at WP:FOOTY and you should be in a much better position next time. Peanut4 (talk) 08:18, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Croatia
editHi, I know you have been doing a lot of work to get Croatia national football team up to FA status, I think you have been quite combative in the FAC discussions, but I appreciate it is difficult to get your work criticisied, if you blindly commit to WP:AGF, then you get a lot of constructive comments to work with. Images is the main area where I work, so here are a few things that you should be able to fix with relative ease:
- The stadium image links to a differnt image than the one used, so is invalid, if the word stadium picture is used, the licence is also wrong, Template:Attribution should be used as the licence as I see no evidence of CC
- The Slaven Bilić image has no link to source or licence, even at that I would be unsure of the valididity of something originating from a user based facebook group. You may want to look at flickr, it is a good source of free images.
- The rationale for Image:Croatian first team.jpg does not indicate how it significantly increases the readers understanding, to me it looks like a load of men standing in a straight line, and I think it will be hard to justify as FU. If the author is unknown, it may fall under [4] or if it was part of a news article [5] may be appropriate.
- The Image:Cro-Ger 2-0.jpg should have an OTRS tag, I assume you can provide that yourself without much effort
The relation between the 1940s team and the present isn't explicit, teams represent associations, so you need to demonstrate continuity of association. I know it sounds odd, but if you read Ireland national football team (1882–1950), there are two unrelated Ireland teams, which causes a lot of confussion, so just because a team shares a name and territory doent mean they are related. Fasach Nua (talk) 12:11, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
- As for your request to Fasach Nua's user talk page, it is currently unknown if this user is still active. I will reply to you thus if you and he don't mind. As for your question regarding images from Flickr: No, they are not. See WP:FLICKR for which pictures from Flickr you can upload here and which you can't. Regards SoWhy 07:16, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

editWhere can I find this: "Biographies need to show current state AND past state"? Hubschrauber729 (talk) 14:46, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
- Mate, do some asking/researching on the appropriate projects and talk pages and you will find such information. I don't keep track of all project pages I read but I know I've read it somewhere on WP before. Infobox place of birth should identify the name of the area/state/country in which the person was born, including what it was known by at the time they were born and what it is known by now. Your constant reverting of this edit is becoming very disruptive. What kind of a biography wouldn't display such accurate and significant information? Yes, Modric was born in a country which was known as Yugoslavia at the time. It must be stated that he was born in what was considered Yugoslavia, but it must also surely be stated that the part of Yugoslavia he was born in is now a Croatian independent country. Yugoslavia does not exist anymore, it never will again. Some people may not know about the political situation of Yugoslavia's breakup, so saying that Modric was born in Zadar and then in a country which some people may not know about will only cause confusion. editHey-
I was wondering if you knew definitively whether or not the Prva HNL was fully professional, and better yet, if you had a citation one way or the other so we can get it listed properly on the sub-page. Citations are terrible to find for professional status, but if you happened to have one, we could more easily fend off AfDs down the line. If you know for sure one way or the other, though, feel free to add it or let me know and I'll do so. Thanks! matt91486 (talk) 19:38, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Image permission problem with Image:Bilicforeigntraining.jpg
editThanks for uploading Image:Bilicforeigntraining.jpg. I noticed that that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the image (or other media file) agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the image to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the image has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the image's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Images lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

editFor your vote at Roman Catholic Church. I am sorry to inform you that we failed FAC but will again be at peer review in a few weeks to sort things out. Hopefully we will make it through next time. We will be contacting all supporters and opposers of the article when we open the next peer review to hopefully get all issues addressed and hashed out before the next FAC try. Thanks again for your time and attention to this important article. NancyHeise talk 01:03, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
Croatia Football Team
editI'm doing a copyedit of the article, so if anything's unclear to me, I'll post it on the talk page or at FAC. Cheers! Ink Runner (talk) 06:19, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
Hi Domiy, I read through the FAC for Croatia national football team and was a little troubled by some of your comments. You repeatedly mentioned that if reviewers had issues they should have participated in the peer review (ex: if you really wanted to contribute some points based on your own language preference then you should have participated in the peer review and made some additional adjustements to the page yourslelf ). Please note that peer review, like FAC, is a voluntary process to get reviews. FAC reviewers are not required to participate in peer reviews, and articles are not required to go through peer review to get to FAC. Peer review is useful because it can help identify some potential issues, but it is not meant to identify every single potential issue that would prevent an article from meeting the FA criteria. The fact that no one complained about a particular issue in peer review does not mean that the issue should therefore be ignored. As the FAC instructions point out, all nominated articles are assumed to have good points, but reviewers should focus on areas in which the article does not meet the FA criteria. Reviewers are encouraged to oppose articles that they believe do not meet the criteria; once their issues are resolved, the reviewer can then change to support. I hope that you will keep these points in mind as your FAC progresses - the process becomes much easier when the FAC reviewer and hte nominator have the same understanding of what the reviewer should be doing. Copyright problems with File:Mainkranjcar.jpg
editHello. Concerning your contribution, File:Mainkranjcar.jpg, please note that Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text or images obtained from other web sites or printed material, without the permission of the author(s). This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.daylife.com/photo/00TtfCQeLch0i/. As a copyright violation, File:Mainkranjcar.jpg appears to qualify for deletion under the speedy deletion criteria. File:Mainkranjcar.jpg has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message.
If you believe that the article or image is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:
- If you have permission from the author, leave a message explaining the details at Talk:File:Mainkranjcar.jpg and send an email with the message to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
- If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:File:Mainkranjcar.jpg with a link to where we can find that note.
- If you hold the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on Talk:File:Mainkranjcar.jpg.
However, for textual content, you may simply consider rewriting the content in your own words. Thank you. Mosmof (talk) 02:19, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
Your image upload
editI noticed that you have uploaded many, many images with the source listed as only "fan site", and assigned a free license to all of them. Unfortunately, this is insufficient for use on Wikipedia for several reasons. For one, there is not evidence that images you find on "fan site" are free. In fact, they are most likely copyrighted, just like the majority of images found on the internet. Second, there is no evidence that those sites even own the copyright to the images. I found several photographs uploaded pretty easily on news photo services, and those photos are almost never free.
Please provide more complete source information in the future, and please do not upload images unless they explicitly state that they are copyright-free. Thanks. --Mosmof (talk) 02:57, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

File source problem with File:Photomodric.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:Photomodric.jpg.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 06:12, 31 January 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 06:12, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license GFDL-self to license it under the GFDL, or to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use PD-self to release it into the public domain.
If you did not create this media file, please understand that the vast majority of images found on the internet are not appropriate for Wikipedia. Most content on the internet is copyrighted and the creator of the image has exclusive rights to use it. Wikipedia respects the copyrights of others - do not upload images that violate others' copyrights. In certain limited cases, we may be able to use an image under a claim of fair use - if you are certain that fair use would apply here, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list. If no fair use rationale applies, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

Invitation
editThere is a backstage pass coming up to be followed by an editathon in the State Library of New South Wales on 23 November. This is the first time that an Australian cultural institution has opened its doors to us in this way and will be a special opportunity because the Library is providing: one of its best rooms; its expert curators (along with their expertise and their white gloves); a newly launched website (containing new resources); and of course, items from its collection (including rare and usually unavailable material) which we can look at, learn from, and use, to improve WP articles. For example, on the chosen topic (Australia and WWI), the Library holds many diaries and manuscripts from the period.
As you can see from the Library's project page, they have connected this editathon with their own work. They have already set out a wide range of resources to make things easier for us. Please sign up on the editathon project page if you can participate either online or in person with other Wikipedians. Hope to see you there! Lankiveil (speak to me) 07:18, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Invite to the African Destubathon
editHi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:13, 6 October 2016 (UTC)
Europe 10,000 Challenge invite
editHi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:48, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Croatian first team.jpg
editThank you for uploading File:Croatian first team.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

AP discretionary sanctions alert
editThis is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.
You have shown interest in post-1992 politics of the United States and closely related people. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.
To opt out of receiving messages like this one, place
on your user talk page and specify in the template the topic areas that you would like to opt out of alerts about. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.
April 2022
editYou currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.
Points to note:
- Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
- Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.
If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 04:01, 24 April 2022 (UTC)
Stop editwarring
editYour recent editing history shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.
Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 04:15, 24 April 2022 (UTC)
