Sorry

I didn't check your userpage before I deleted your edits. I just assumed it was either another sock or a WP:WEASEL edit. I will add it back for you.--Canoe1967 (talk) 19:03, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

Redacted. Sorry x2.--Canoe1967 (talk) 19:59, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

ACC

Hi Tiggerjay! I'm just popping by to remind you that you still have ACC request 87166 reserved. I just wanted to make sure you're aware of it. Best, MJ94 (talk) 19:52, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

RM Closure

Regarding your edit here, please see WP:RMCI regarding proper closing procedures. Thanks. Tiggerjay (talk) 23:15, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

Considering I just closed about ten move requests, I think it's quite clear that I know how to close move requests. You moved two of the articles and Nyttend moved the third -- six hours ago. One of you should have closed it properly, but for some reason didn't. I thought I would remove the template while, presumably, one or the both of you finished whatever you were doing, so that the request wasn't showing up at WP:RM as unaddressed. -- tariqabjotu 23:23, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
Yes, however there is a difference between deleting the template and properly closing the discussion on the talk page using the {{subst:RM top}} template. Agreed that Nyttend should have done it, but it would have been helpful if you could have properly closed it. Thanks! Tiggerjay (talk) 23:33, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
Uh, hello? You're the one who chose to address the move request by moving two of the pages and tagging the third with {{db-move}}. (I just noticed that Nyttend moved the page at your tagging and not because he separately noticed the request at WP:RM.) So, it was your responsibility to close the move request properly, not mine, seventeen hours ago. I had no intention of actually closing the move request; I just wanted to prevent others from wasting their time coming to an already-addressed request while you took your time getting around to closing it "properly". -- tariqabjotu 23:58, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
Hmm, please assume some good faith here. I am not suggesting it was your responsibility to close the RM. The reason I brought it to your attention was that is seems odd that you would remove the template without properly closing the discussion, which effectively left the discussion open and unresolved. It might make the RM board cleaner, but it become utterly confusing to any editor which is looking specifically at that talk page for that article. A person experienced with RM's like you and me could tell in about 5 seconds that the move was completed and simply move along, but for people not familiar with moves, the untemplated talk section appears to be confusing and just noise. I would suggest that it would have been better to either leave the page alone or close it properly. Tiggerjay (talk) 00:17, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
I can't roll my eyes hard enough. The tone of your remarks needed no further explanation, and I would appreciate not getting one. -- tariqabjotu 00:35, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

RM of talk:Nebraska Initiative Measure 416

Ahem. Is this how you, acting as the closing "administrator", determine consensus? Please explain how this edit was made in good faith. Thanks, Wbm1058 (talk) 22:47, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for your feedback on this, it appears to be an error, obviously deleting or removing discussions on an active item is not appropriate. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I can go back and fix this edit retroactively. But so we are on the same page, the oppose was only for Arizona Constitution Article 30, but the original move request wasn't modified to include that, and so it still stands that there was consensus for the original move. Your thoughts? Tiggerjay (talk) 23:09, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
Look back at the page as it was just before you closed the RM, and note:
There you see considerable opposition to removing parenthetical disambiguation of the year from Arizona propositions. Yet you went ahead and removed the year 2008 from Arizona Proposition 102 anyway. You're on firmer ground with Nebraska, which only has two ballot measure articles on Wikipedia, and perhaps with Colorado too, although Category:Colorado ballot measures, 2006 shows now that Colorado Amendment 43 goes against convention of other items in that category. Colorado should defer to the outcome of Talk:Colorado Amendment 38 (2006), which was also indirectly linked by me in the comments you removed. – Wbm1058 (talk) 23:48, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
I believe you are bringing up two seperate issues which need to be addressed seperately that I will isolate and sub section below so they can be discussed appropraitely:

Copy Edit Error

I would like to clarify that the edit I made (which you suggest is malicious) not only accidentally removed your comment, and 1 oppose; but also 2 supports - if this was intentional to skew the results in favor of a move, then it would have made sense to keep the supported, but as you can see they were also inadvertently removed. I'm not sure there is much more I can do to help make that more clear... Tiggerjay (talk) 00:15, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

OK, please revert your error. Wbm1058 (talk) 01:13, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
Resolved/reverted here. Tiggerjay (talk) 01:25, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

Discussion regarding parenthetical disambiguation

I understand you think that this was moved improperly and you raise a good point that there is a wider implication here. Perhaps someone is doing unhelpful things by bringing up multiple move requests on multiple pages instead of keeping them consolidated in a single location. The move closure was based on what appeared to be good consensus on the page, because ever !vote was in support of the moving of the proposed 3 pages. Do you somehow see the vote or discussion going any other direction? Tiggerjay (talk) 00:15, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

I agree this was not the best constructed multi-move request as it included only isolated examples from three different states. I see that your close was in good faith. At this point, there would be no benefit in re-opening this RM. I agree the Nebraska move isn't likely to be reversed. I will bring up the Colorado Amendment 43 move over at Talk:Colorado Amendment 38 (2006), although it is not likely to be reversed either, and the Arizona Proposition 102 move over at Talk:Arizona Proposition 200 (2004)#Move?, where I believe there is a good chance that it will be reversed. Cheers, Wbm1058 (talk) 01:13, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for your comments. I agree that there would be no real point in reopening this specific RM. However, it might be a good idea to see about opening a discussion on each Arizona Proposition pointing to the current ongoing discussion which is currently overwhelmingly in the oppose state. That way each article can be aware of the ongoing discussion, and perhaps all of the propositions for that state can be handled consistently. If that one does close with consensus, then perhaps bringing that specific question to other states might be a good idea. Along that lines, it might be an interesting idea to have a new sub-page over at RM that is a log of current, ongoing, wide-affecting trends in move requests, so that RM participators can be aware of overall current trends. Tiggerjay (talk) 01:32, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
"it might be a good idea to see about opening a discussion on each Arizona Proposition pointing to the current ongoing discussion which is currently overwhelmingly in the oppose state."
—like Talk:Arizona Proposition 107 (2006)#Move discussion in progress, Talk:Arizona Proposition 207 (2006)#Move discussion in progress and Talk:Arizona Proposition 100 (2010)#Move discussion in progress?   Wbm1058 (talk) 02:09, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

Hmm....

You have to click "Move" in the main page, NOT the talk page (as you did with the Nine O'clock News article), to move a page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JSH-alive (talkcontribs)

Thanks you are correct, in that only the talk page was moved. I have since corrected it. In the future, you can certainly perform the move yourself. Thanks again. Tiggerjay (talk) 01:59, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

Women's CEV Top Teams Cup

Hello Tiggerjay. Thanks for your contribution to the Move discussion!

Comment / weak-support it appears clear that Top Team Cup and Challenge Cup swapped names for whatever reason (seams like a great place for confusion!). And that now Top Team Cup is the PRIMARYTOPIC for CEV CUP, but since it is simply a redirect we could simply change the redirect, and leave this page where it is. Then setup appropraite hatnotes on each page to avoid the need for a DAB page. I will boldly make this change now. Tiggerjay (talk) 19:43, 31 December 2012 (UTC)

Can you spell out how this would work? I was about to do the requested move, since enough time has passed, but it sounds like you have a different idea. EdJohnston (talk) 20:07, 31 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi EdJohnston! I actually boldly made the change since it didn't involve a move, but it did affect the redirect page. The result was:
Arguably we could have moved Women's CEV Top Teams Cup to Women's CEV Cup... but with all of the name changes already involved, a change of the redirect seemed more straightforward. Your thoughts? Tiggerjay (talk) 20:16, 31 December 2012 (UTC)
I see no reason why an event that is now called 'Women's CEV Cup' shouldn't be under that name. Not clear why the difficulties you describe would deter us from that result, since it's kind of obvious. The difficulties don't seem very difficult. Please let me know if you disagree. Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 18:27, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
Nope, no objection at all, if you want to G6 the Cup page, and swap the two that would sound good to me. Tiggerjay (talk) 19:54, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

Apology

I have reverted the speedy - simply have left as redirect - also your thoughtful edit is to be complimented - the least left in open space th better - cheers SatuSuro 08:56, 13 January 2013 (UTC)

Agreed - after the thought I was going to put the edit summary as "moving offwiki to email", which I sent.... No need for the apology :) Tiggerjay (talk) 08:58, 13 January 2013 (UTC)

Progress on WP:Snuggle and work log

I've been making some progress on Snuggle development recently and I could use your feedback. Specifically, I've created a work log that I plan to update every time I get a chance to work on Snuggle. My intention is that you'll be able to watch that page to track my progress so I can get your feedback on features when they are early in development. The most recent entry (also the only entry) discusses new functionality for interacting with newcomers via Snuggle. I posted some mockups in the work log that show how I imagine the new features to work and I could use some feedback before I start writing the code. Thanks! --EpochFail(talkwork) 20:29, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

Proposal to move Range (mathematics) to Range of a function

I see that you closed the (stale) proposal to move Range (mathematics) to Range of a function with the result "No consensus". I humbly suggest that there is in fact some sort of consensus to perform that move, with one explicit supporting !vote, two implicit supporting !votes, and one "Neutral" !vote. I have left a comment to that effect at Talk:Range (mathematics)#Proposal to move - current title is too ambiguous. — Tobias Bergemann (talk) 10:14, 1 February 2013 (UTC)

Can you get back to this person about her account request? She emailed OTRS asking for help, confused that she shares a name with someone famous, or that she's not allowed to use her last name as part of her user name. Can't she just register the name? Talk:Horncastle, Lincolnshire#Move?

There's no opposition to the guideline-based reasons to move there. The assertion that this is a primary topic was not contested; Vegaswikian ignored it, and focused on partial title matches, which are irrelevant to the discussion, and SmokeyJoe objected to the wider consensus that resulted in the Article titles policy. This should probably be closed (or relisted again) by an administrator. Peter James (talk) 11:00, 14 April 2013 (UTC)

While I respect your thoughts on the merits of the rename, and you might as well be correct in your perspective. However, even if the other !votes are less accurate then yours, it doesn't invalidate their arguments, and thus this issue is still without consensus. It seems like even after your !vote, SmokeJoe was still firm in his position. You are welcome to relist again if you believe that a third round will bring more attention. Tiggerjay (talk) 19:58, 14 April 2013 (UTC)
WP:Consensus#Determining consensus. Arguments based on policies and guidelines should be given more weight than those that ignore policies and guidelines or protest against them, and this wasn't clearly going to result in "no consensus". Peter James (talk) 20:10, 14 April 2013 (UTC)
My initial review would be to object to the move itself, however that wasn't the reason for the closure itself. I am going to take a much closer look at policy and precedent and comment back a bit later regarding this article. However, I would take no offence if you simply wanted to relist the Requested Move again. Tiggerjay (talk) 20:14, 14 April 2013 (UTC)

none at all, however it seems like the various RM are taking different directions and I am concerned that they might come to different consensus which would be bad, because consistency would be preferred. It also seems like some of the discussions are becoming redundant across mutliple articles. Lets keep the discussion going but with all of the articles in mind instead of handling them individually. Changes to SuggestBot's suggestions

We have changed the number of suggested articles and which categories they are selected from. The number of stubs has been greatly reduced, the number of articles needing sources doubled, and two new categories added (orphans and unencyclopaedic articles). We have also modified the layout of the suggestions and added sortable columns with various types of information about each article. The first two columns are:

Views/Day
Daily average number of views an article's had over the past 14 days.
Quality
Predicted article quality on a 1- to 3-star scale. Placing your cursor over the stars should give you a pop-up describing the article's quality (Low/Medium/High), current assessment class, and predicted assessment class.

The method we use to predict article quality also allows us to assess whether an article might need specific types of work in order to improve its quality. The work needed might not correspond to cleanup tags added to the article, since our method is not based on those. We have added five columns reflecting this work assessment, where a red X indicates improvement is needed. Placing your cursor over an X should give you a pop-up with a short description of the work needed. The five columns seek to answer the following five questions:

Content
Is more content needed?
Headings
Does this article have an appropriate section structure?
Images
Is the number of illustrative images about right?
Links
Does this article link to enough other Wikipedia articles?
Sources
For its length, is there an appropriate number of citations to sources in this article?

SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. We appreciate that you have signed up to receive suggestions regularly, your contributions make Wikipedia better — thanks for helping!

Managing a "move" from an external wiki into Wikipedia

Hi Tiggerjay: my organization oversees the largest global community of marine debris managers, researchers, and activists. As a new service to them, we are building a user-friendly wiki on our site that will be closely managed by a hand-picked team of 5-6 marine debris experts. We are starting our wiki with the article on "marine debris" in Wikipedia as of July 1, and we would like to upload our wiki back to Wikipedia on a regular basis, perhaps once a month. Essentially we would like to manage a "move", but with the content coming from a wiki outside of Wikipedia, and with that external content replacing the content on Wikipedia at the time of the move.

My questions are: 1. Is this allowed on Wikipedia? 2. If it is allowed, do I and my organization need to go through an approval process? 3. If it is not allowed, is there a work-around that would largely have the same end result: i.e., ensuring that Wikipedia continually has the most up-to-date content on marine debris from the people most familiar with it?

Your question for me may be, "Why not just do your marine debris wiki on Wikipedia and save yourself the move step?" My answer is that Wikipedia is fairly user-unfriendly for the average person, and our external wiki will make the process much more accessible to the people who know the most about marine debris.

Thanks very much.

An article about Caren Z. Turner

Hello,

I noticed that an Wikipedia article about Caren Z. Turner was deleted. I think she is a notable person
in the American politics and worth having an article about her. So I wrote a very concise article myself:
     http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Endiruna/sandbox
I am writing to you as I think it would be deleted if I would have tried to publish it myself.

Articles you might like to edit, from SuggestBot

We are currently running a study on the effects of adding additional information to SuggestBot's suggestions. Participation in the study is voluntary. Should you wish to not participate in the study, or have questions or concerns, you can find contact information on the SuggestBot study page.

IMPORTANT CHANGES: We have modified the selection of articles SuggestBot suggests and altered the design to incorporate more information about the articles, as described in this explanation.

Note: All columns in this table are sortable, allowing you to rearrange the table so the articles most interesting to you are shown at the top. All images have mouse-over popups with more information.

It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. the Ask.com morning question

Do your nails and hair grow after you die?

A) is incorrect. Hair and fingernails do not continue to grow after a person dies. Rather, the skin dries and shrinks away from the bases of hairs and nails, giving the appearance of growth.

This is from Wikipedia and it is wrong... and I know first hand. Years ago, when much younger I was married to a man named Harvey. He died 4 months later as the result of a car accident, however he lived for 13 days. He suffered horrible brain damage.

During the course of his long brain surgery, when medical specialists attempted to save his life, they saved his head.

After he died his hair had grown enough, by the time of the funeral, that he literally looked normal, not shaved. Also his fingernails had to be trimmed!

Therefore I feel your Wikipedia answer is not correct!

I hope I got this to the right place, hard to figure out where to leave a Wikipedia comment, sorry if I bothered you.

Please comment on an RfC about Living members of deposed royal families and the titles attributed to them on WP

Hello - I have opened an RfC about suggested guidelines in the Manual of Style for articles about living members of families whose ancestors were deposed as monarchs of various countries and the titles and "styles" attributed to these living people, at the moment often in a misleading and inaccurate way in my opinion. Please join in the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Biographies "Use of royal "Titles and styles" and honorific prefixes in articles and templates referring to pretenders to abolished royal titles and their families"[2]Regards,Smeat75 (talk) 06:00, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
