Spam links

I just spotted that particular batch of spam links by chance, someone had added a rather unnecessary link to a watched page of mine, so I just checked the user for more contributions and saw that adding links to one website was all he had done.

The easiest way to find spam would probably be to monitor Special:Recentchanges for changes made by IP addresses, they tend to do shady stuff sometimes :) If you see one doing bad stuff, just check its history, and you might just find something sneaky, it happens every once in a while. Amazon spam links - you can help

I see you commented on User talk:Cmdrjameson about the amzon spam links. Amazon isn't the only site with a referral program, if you know of any other sites that provide relevant information but contain referral IDs, don't hesitate to tell! Obli (Talk) 23:10, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

Unless I'm mistaken, User:Cmdrjameson has already cleared the Amazon and Allmusic links by looking through a database dump locally, on his computer. There are still other pages that use reference IDs, though.

As for the harm caused by them; the effects aren't really *that* noticeable. First of all, someone might be making money from people clicking those links, we won't have that (for obvious reasons). Secondly, if we don't remove them people will think it's OK to stuff WP with spammy ref ID links. Obli (Talk) 17:23, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

AIV vs VIP

Hi TheMandarin/Archive 1. I noticed you added an entry to Vandalism in Progress. That page is only for very specific cases, as described by the page's guidelines. Your alert would be better placed on Administrator intervention against vandalism (WP:AIV), where it will usually be processed within minutes. Many alerts that are incorrectly placed on Vandalism in Progress are never dealt with, simply because they become old before an administrator gets to them. Thanks for your efforts. :) --lightdarkness (talk) 06:33, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

Cayce's beliefs

Just curious.. Your recent addition to the Cayce page was good. If a woman was one of three sisters to a warrior in Persia in the 1920s; that Persian warrior MUST have three sisters in the 1940s, not two sisters as you have stated... I'd recommend a fixup before the skeptics just on you for inconsistency... Just trying to help the article be top notch.

Its cool, dont worry; anyone trying to improve the Cayce article makes my heart sing! Just wanted to inspire you to do what you were thinking with the article, just get some facts straighter, so we can get Cayce looking far more professional thatn some pseudoscientific illusionist obsessed with Millenium prophecies (which he most certainly want, but many writers of books on Cayce seem very good at promoting). In my mind, Cayce was a medical clairvoyant, whose many diagnoses for thousands of people, has improved amny peoples lives immensely - physically, intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually. Best of luck. Keep editing. Be Bold - as the wikipedia originators seem to want us to be! Drakonicon 13:47, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Bhagavad Gita Arjuna Krishna.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Bhagavad Gita Arjuna Krishna.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:22, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

License tagging for File:Marie Louise Burke.gif

Thanks for uploading File:Marie Louise Burke.gif. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 17:11, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

Trailinga Swami article

I've started an article on Trailinga Swami in my userspace, here. Since it was deleted at least once before, I want to get it to a point where that won't happen again. Please feel free to edit it. I'll publish it in another day or two. Priyanath talk 06:02, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Good stuff - I've done some copy editing, and deleted a sentence I had originally added from Ramakrishna, since the quotes you found were better. I'm trying to make it sound 'encyclopedic', so describing him as a 'yogi' rather than a 'saint' may be better for Wikipedia. This article has some parallels to the Mahavatar Babaji article, where people were trying to describe him as a 'culture hero', imaginary person, etc., so I put the actual first hand encounters with Mahavatar Babaji right at the beginning. Once that happened, the article became stable. That's why I put the meetings and first hand accounts of Trailinga in the very beginning. I also stuck with "Varanasi", rather than "Kashi", since the article is at "Varanasi".
I think this could be a fun DYK, and it's probably ready to go into article space at any time. Should it be at "Trailinga Swami" or "Trailanga Swami"? I'll go with your call on that. Thanks, Priyanath talk 02:26, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. For the naming confusion, lets go with what Google Book says: Trailanga->243 results, Trailinga->220 results. Also Trailanga resulted in more accurate searches, than Trailinga. I have never worked with DYK before, but I strongly feel this can be a very and amazing DYK of a yogi who lived for around 300 years!!!! --Nvineeth (talk) 05:22, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
Great, I'll move it to article space at Trailanga Swami, and then submit it to DYK after a day or two. There's a bit more polishing I'd like to do, since it's a little unusual for DYK. They might have some disbelief at first..... Priyanath talk 05:54, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
Now that it's moved to article space, do some more edits so your contributions are more official. When I submit it to DYK, you'll be included as one of the creators of the article. Priyanath talk 06:05, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, I am planning to write a small bio but I am slightly busy now., if it gets late, pls go ahead and submit for DYK, doesn't matter if I get or do not get the credit :) whats important is that we have added a nice ( and surprising ) article! --Nvineeth (talk) 13:54, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
I noticed File:Trailanga Swami Math.jpg uploaded from the Ramakrishna mission journal. Kow did you acquire the permission? Have you used OTRS system? Can you please obtain permission for Vithoba and Rakhumai images too? --Redtigerxyz Talk 13:19, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
I will write to them regarding the permission, I uploaded the image (without OTRS) because I had seen the images being used for educational purpose somewhere, but ideally I should be obtaining the permission and its a mistake on my part., I will definitely contact them regarding the pictures of Vithoba and also Trailinga Swami. Thanks for pointing this out. --Nvineeth (talk) 13:54, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
I have noticed Trailanga Swami is not nominated for DYK yet, it is a good nominee: an appropriate DYK (just a suggestion) will "...that Trailanga Swami (pictured), an Indian yogi, is believed to have lived 300 years and reportedly "read people’s minds like books."?" --Redtigerxyz Talk 14:03, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
Please forward the email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org, with names of the images uploaded. Add OTRS pending tag to all images you upload, til then. A OTRS holder will confirm the email (permission) and add an OTRS tag to the image. --Redtigerxyz Talk 06:20, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
Can you please forward me a copy of the mail? --Redtigerxyz Talk 11:42, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
It might be best to take the images off the article if this isn't straightened out soon, since it may well appear on the main page in a few days time. Priyanath talk 16:14, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the forwarded email by publisher as requested by me. The publisher has put the " non-profit educational purpose only" clause, which is not excepted at wiki. So requesting speedy deletion of all images by PB.--Redtigerxyz Talk 16:21, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Post my joining the discussion, you have reverted the article on Ramakrishna twice, both times to remove tags notifying individuals reading the article about the dispute on the talk page. "Protocol Stack" comments

Hi Nvineeth,

When rearranging the sentence "In addition to RTP, a complete system typically uses other protocols and standards for session announcement, initiation, and control like Session Initiation Protocol, Real Time Streaming Protocol, H.225, H.245 etc., codecs for media compression; and network transport." I deleted "network transport" feeling it was redundant (you already discussed that RTP typically runs on top of UDP earlier in the article and most people reading the article would be familiar with protocol layers). My comment was just pointing out if you really wanted to discuss how RTP runs on top of other protocols like UDP/IP you could do that at the end of the paragraph rather than string it onto the end of that already lengthy sentence. However I would personally leave discussion of protocol layers out of that paragraph completely.

Removing Critics

Hi, I would like to solicit your input regarding the criticism section of Paramahamsa Hariharananda. These criticism may be true or false but, regardless, the sources for the criticism, namely the two books by Satyeswarananda and the website of Kriyananda, are self-published. According to Wikipedia:Reliable_sources#Self-published_sources "Self-published sources are largely not acceptable, though may be used only in limited circumstances, with caution, when produced by an established expert on the topic of the article whose work in the relevant field has previously been published by reliable third-party publications." If we remove the sources without deleting the entire section, then the article will be criticizing a dead person without basis. Please let me know whether you agree with this or not in my talk page. – Shannon Rose (talk) 19:33, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

Ramprasad Sen

Hi, Nvineeth. You asked me to look over the Ramprasad Sen article.

  1. The scholar Krishnananda Agamavagisha is referred to as famous. Is there any source confirming this?
  2. In the Early Life section, there are two sentences side by side that start w/ "According to". Maybe reword?
  3. Also, the sentence "Ramprasad later came into contact with the famous Tantrik yogi and scholar Krishnananda Agamavagisha and became his disciple" has two "ands" in it. (I know, this really is just nit picking.)
  4. "popular stories" in the Employment seems POV
  5. What is the difference between the sources used in the References section and the ones in the Bibliography section?
This article has improved since I last looked at it. :) The picture at the beginning of the article is very pretty and helps to illustrate it. The POV is mostly gone, except where "popular" stories and legends are referenced. (But that really is debatable what is popular and what isn't. I'm not that familiar w/ Indian poets, so I can't say.) However, you should probably request a peer review before you renominate the article. That way, somebody new can take a look at it and offer suggestions on things others may have overlooked. Good work on the article so far. (I'm not sure where to put this review, so I'll leave on your talk page. Hope you don't mind.) Kaguya-chan (talk) 23:58, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Ramprasad-sen-shyama-sangeet.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:Ramprasad-sen-shyama-sangeet.jpg.

Thank you. BJBot (talk) 17:10, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

You'd probably want to ask User:Mr.Z-man about how to access the information, as he is the one who set up the program so he probably best knows how to access it. John Carter (talk) 14:57, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
