Welcome!

Hello, Tbosarge, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of your recent edits to the page Bra have not conformed to Wikipedia's verifiability policy, and has been removed. Wikipedia articles should refer only to facts and interpretations that have been stated in print or on reputable websites or in other media. Always remember to provide a reliable source for quotations and for any material that is likely to be challenged, or it may be removed. Wikipedia also has a related policy against including original research in articles. Additionally, all new biographies of living people must contain at least one reliable source.

If you are stuck and looking for help, please see the guide for citing sources or come to the new contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask a question on your talk page. Again, welcome.  Favonian (talk) 19:05, 7 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hello Tbosarge, and welcome to Wikipedia. All or some of your addition(s) to Bra have been removed, as they appear to have added copyrighted material without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 16:36, 22 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Please don't copy material you find elsewhere online

edit

Hello. I am Diannaa and I am a Wikipedia administrator. Prose you find online is almost always copyright, and cannot be copied here; it's against the copyright policy of this website to do so. All prose must be written in your own words. There's more information about copyrights and how it applies to Wikipedia at Wikipedia:FAQ/Copyright. The Wikipedia copyright policy and its application are complex matters, and you should not edit any more until you have taken the time to read and understand our copyright policy. Further copyright issues will result in you being blocked from editing. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 18:03, 23 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

  • Reverted again. Please read the messages here. Next time you add that content again, your account will be temporarily blocked from editing - Alison 12:51, 24 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

You have been blocked from editing for a period of 24 hours for violating copyright policy by copying text or images into Wikipedia from another source without evidence of permission, as you did at Bra. Please take this opportunity to ensure that you understand our copyright policy and our policies regarding how to use non-free content. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Alison 22:04, 24 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

to my knowledge I have not any copyrighted material. I have referenced copyrighted material, but not copied.

Decline reason:

Yes you did, you copied material from http://www.brafree.org/. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 09:22, 25 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

  • I'll also add that the obvious advocacy nature of your edits is also a problem. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 09:25, 25 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
Oh, and comments like "If there are those out there who would choose to delete this information in error, then may the blood of breast cancer victims be on their hands" are unacceptable - even on a talk page (where discussion about articles should go), but you absolutely must not add such comments in the article itself. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 09:28, 25 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
Regardless of the copyright issue, the sources you're using are not considered appropriate for medical information on Wikipedia. Please see WP:MEDRS for acceptable sources for medical content. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 17:46, 25 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

So If I get permission from the owner of the website, will I then be allowed to post the content?

Decline reason:

Procedural decline only. This is not an unblock request and in any case, your block has expired. WP:COPYRIGHT and WP:FAIRUSE answer all your questions. Yamla (talk) 14:28, 27 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

  • To answer the question "If I get permission from the owner of the website, will I then be allowed to post the content?", no. Permission granted to you to use it is not adequate - the material must have been published under a license allowing anyone to reproduce the work for any purpose (including with modification). That's because Wikipedia itself is so licensed, and so any material copied into Wikipedia must be at least as freely released as Wikipedia itself. But even if it's suitably licensed, copying text into Wikipedia is far from ideal. By far the best way to add material to Wikipedia is to write it yourself and cite reliable sources to support it. In the case of the current subject matter, the sources you use would need to satisfy the more stringent medical sources requirements described at WP:MEDRS. I'm not an expert on medical sources, but I'm pretty confident that an advocacy site like http://www.brafree.org/ would not satisfy those requirements. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 14:55, 27 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • I'll just add that I see that site (eg at the contact page) carries the disclaimer "The opinions expressed on this website are those of Elizabeth R. Vaughan, M.D., F.A.A.E.M. Many physicians - perhaps most physicians - and the American Cancer Society assert that no link has been positively demonstrated between bras and breast cancer." Wikipedia, as an encyclopedia, is not a suitable forum for promoting one-person opinions and advocacy, and content added here must provide a balance that reflects the academic consensus. Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:Genuine (book)

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:Genuine (book), requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here.   Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia. While objective prose about beliefs, organisations, people, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. MrOllie (talk) 12:30, 24 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
