Notification of articles for Speedy Deletion edit

[CSDs retracted; they no longer apply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not remove speedy deletion tags from articles that you have created yourself, as you did with Heritiera littoralis. If you do not believe the article deserves to be deleted, then please place {{hangon}} on the page (please do not remove any existing speedy deletion tag) and make your case on the article's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you. --健次(derumi)talk 07:56, 5 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

problem solved. Hey, give people with slow internet access a few seconds to repair mistakes! --Tauʻolunga 08:04, 5 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
CSDs are retracted (I've removed the notifications above). It didn't make sense to have two articles redirecting to each other, as they had originally started out. As one of the articles is now a stub, the CSDs no longer apply. Apologies for acting too promptly. Good luck with your article. --健次(derumi)talk 08:09, 5 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Unspecified source for Image:50_TOP_Obverse.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:50_TOP_Obverse.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 07:46, 22 November 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. OsamaK (talk) 07:46, 22 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Tongan Language Tables edit

I don't know maybe your computer has it different or something but when I look at the tables in their current form, they are all black. That's why I took away the colours. If you find a way to actually show the colours, you should put it like that. Munci (talk) 10:01, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Then I am afraid there is something wrong with your computer or browser, as the colours are generated by standard html codes. In fact they are even limited to the old 216 web colours only.
3 hexdigits colour 6 hexdigits colour

The only thing I can imagine that you have an old browser, not able to deal with 3 digit colours. Do the two orange table cells above look different to you? --Tauʻolunga (talk) 06:11, 12 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes, it appears you are right. The one on the left is black and the one on the right is orange. The computers provided by my uni are obviously old. I think the table should be in the wiki format for tables in case anyone else has an old computer and that's what tables are supposed to be in and that would take less code space up anyway. Munci (talk) 08:57, 12 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well then the problem is easily solved by changing the colours in the article to 6 digit values. I can do that. But I am not going to wikify the tables, because I always mistake in the proper syntaxes for that. But you can do it, of course. --Tauʻolunga (talk) 07:09, 14 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thank you! Cool colour scheme now I can see it. Munci (talk) 13:52, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of Tongan music notation edit

A tag has been placed on Tongan music notation requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later." You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.  – jaksmata 22:06, 17 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Reconsidered edit

After looking into this more, I think the article should stay, but I've deleted the text that was a copyright violation. This left the article very short, but people will still be able to follow the link to the webpage that describes the notation. Same as noted above: if you want to re-add the description of the notation, please do it in your own words rather than by copying from other websites. – jaksmata 22:22, 17 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Astronomy image software edit

Hello Tonga, I have been admiring the images that you add to articles. What software do you use to create the astronomy images, such as this one: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Outside_view_of_precession.jpg Thanks in advance. Dotancohen (talk) 10:40, 26 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Cinema 4D, but probably any other 3D drawing program would do as well. --Tauʻolunga (talk) 09:17, 1 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Are the celestial sphere images available somewhere, or did you create them yourself? If so, are they available for download? Thanks! Dotancohen (talk) 19:56, 4 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Just any starmap mapped onto a sphere. I do not have the originals any more. Much easier to recreate when it is needed again than try to find them in a dusty archive, not to speak that the program used in that time to read the file now probably does not longer exist. --Tauʻolunga (talk) 05:56, 5 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Declined PROD: Michael G. Horowitz edit

I've declined the proposed deletion of Michael G. Horowitz. PROD is intended only for uncontroversial deletions, as it appears that you were using PROD, after having blanked the article, to end a content dispute, PROD is clearly inappropriate. This does not mean that I do or don't believe the article should be deleted, it merely means that PROD is the wrong process. If you'd would like to pursue having this article deleted, please list it at Articles for Deletion, you'll get no complaints from me. If you would like assistance resolving the content dispute (which is on a subject I know absolutely nothing about), please drop a line at my Talk page. Thanks! --je deckertalk 21:42, 24 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

George Tupou V edit

I removed a highly POV paragraph that did not link any sources. If you feel it belongs, please re-add it in, but make sure that it has a neutral point of view. The previous passage only mentioned criticism, but did not include sourced information like [1], which says "local Tongan community leaders say it was right for him to have attended the festival in Scotland". And something such as "accused him of being too wrapped up in himself and insensitive to his people's grief" (from the previous version) definitely needs a linkable source, otherwise, it's not very verifiable. Happy editing, SpencerT♦C 21:25, 9 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • On reading the other mentioned Herald articles, his supposed indifference was more an accusation from the local newspapers, to boost their own sales probably, than that of the people. It has nothing to do with his personal life too. Leaving it out. --Tauʻolunga (talk) 07:22, 10 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

PM Lord Tuʻivakanō edit

Hi. Are you absolutely certain it's "Sialeʻataongo Tuʻivakanō", rather than "Sialeʻataonga"? The spelling with an "a" gets over 2,000 Google hits, including articles in reputable media (including Matangi Tonga), and the CIA's page on the Tongan cabinet. The spelling with an "o" gets just 87 Google hits, most of them mirrors of one another, and only one is a media article usable as a source. I see you've mentioned Planet Tonga to source the move, but I very much doubt Planet Tonga constitutes a valid source for Wikipedia's purposes. Unfortunately, there's no information yet on Tongan government websites, so unless you have a reputable source proving that the spelling with an "a" is wrong, I think we should revert to that spelling. Aridd (talk) 09:50, 9 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I am quite certain. ʻAtaongo is a common name in Tonga, although somewhat rare, while ʻAtaonga is not. ʻAta-ongo has a meaning (many meanings in fact, not sure about the right one: far-carrying/well-known freedom/openness), while onga does not exist. Siale (flower) is a very common name. The proper writing of the name is probably Siale ʻAtaongo, but merging them would not be extraordinary.
Indeed it is remarkable how secret Tuʻivakanō's real name appears to be, or his familyname for that matter (Kaho). I guess one day a biography will appear somewhere with them mentioned, but when?
I also did these Google searches already in December, and at that time there was barely any hit for both. I cannot escape the conclusion that Idiotsavant introduced the name Sialeʻataonga on 9 December and that all hits you see now are just copies of it. Wikipedia is a trentsetter! And where did he get it from? Genealogical Gleanings - a site which does not exist anymore, but which I have known in the past to contain spellings errors. Planet Tonga in this respect is not better and not worse. So if we have to go by these types of sources, everything is 50%-50%. But at least these sources are original. I knew this error already for some time, but have waited with the change until I found it in at least one such source. Matangi Tonga? I have watched it all the time: not a single time they have used the name.
Absolutely certain? No, 99% at most. But ʻAtaonga is even less sure. --Tauʻolunga (talk) 06:28, 10 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
All right. Given the paucity of sources, and your knowledge of Tongan names, that makes senses (even if it doesn't really abide by Wikipedia's policy of "Verifiability, not truth"). Thanks for the clarification. (As for Matangi Tonga, if you Google "Sialeʻataongo Tuʻivakanō", one of the first hits is a strangely truncated title of a Matangi Tonga article: "Siale'ataonga Tu'ivakano by 14 votes to - Matangi Tonga Online". But if you click on the link, the name no longer appears. Seems they initially included it, then dropped it, for whatever reason. Aridd (talk) 08:38, 11 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
Finally found an official biography. Should we change the title of the article to Siale ʻAtaongo Kaho ? It would be better. --Tauʻolunga (talk) 06:10, 18 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:Ma'ulu'ulu.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Ma'ulu'ulu.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 07:44, 8 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
