Request for edit summary

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labelled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Mirko Norac

Thanks for your interest in your role played with the Mirko Norac article. I was in the process of reading the Afd about it and was in the middle of leaving a reply that I thought it should be kept but edited, made neutral or etc in the case that it wasn't neutral. Right as I tried to leave my reply I saw that Adam Bishop had deleted it I think on the grounds for being bad faith. I hope you don't mind but I undeleted the article and did my best to edit it and make it neutral

Personally, I'd had no knowledge of Mirko Norac and am neutral as far as to whatever his or his followers or dejectors have to say about him. But in all due respect I hate seeing one's ideas censored. I think we should encourage others to make Wikipedia the best we can. If what I've submitted is neutral, I hope that not anyone else reverts it to an unneutral article.

GAC backlog elimination drive

Wikification tasks template

Hello, Talkstosocks. As part of a broader reorganisation of the WikiProject Wikify project page, I'm trying to figure out how best to incorporate the {{Wikification tasks}} template back onto the page, and I'd like to try to persuade you to change the task box back to its previous format.

The earlier (and now present) function of the template in showing selected articles from a few of the oldest monthly backlogs is, I believe, useful mainly to those editors who already search the relevant "Wikify by month" categories directly. I think that the template could serve a more useful purpose in showing potential newcomers a much wider variety of articles that may appeal to their interests. Also, I think that the article count and timestamp on the task box are redundant: both appear on the {{Wikification progress}} template, and having them on the task box only makes it longer than it needs to be.

I'd appreciate your thoughts on changing the task box format. If we can't agree, then I'll likely leave the formatting as it is; nevertheless, I hope I've been persuasive in my reasoning. Hope to hear from you soon. – Liveste (talk • edits) 16:39, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

I'd like to include all of the monthly backlogs on the template – I don't think that thirteen months is that many, although I can foresee problems in the future. Three or four articles should be selected from each month. The articles on the template should represent different fields of interest (e.g., science, literature, pop culture, various regional articles), that will hopefully have broad appeal for potential newcomers. In my opinion, the more of these articles there are on the template, the better.

Overall, I'd like to include the template in a "Find an article to wikify" section on the project page. This will include three things:

1. Finding articles in Category:Articles that need to be wikified, or alternatively, the monthly backlogs;
2. The Open Tasks box, which gives a visible selection of (hopefully interesting) articles in the backlog;
3. The proposed category intersections, which would make searching for articles by field of interest possible.
