Hi,

This is an archive page, 10 October 2011 to 21 February 2013. Please don't post anything or edit anything here. If you would like to address any of the subjects covered on this page, please link to the subject here: For example, use link User talk:Swliv/Archive02#Redirect deletion (if I can get it working; sorry; ask me if not fixed) to refer to #Redirect deletion (click and/or see below for the "Redirect deletion" section) in a new section (which you start) at User talk:Swliv.

Extra tildes edit

thanks for the tip, Swliv.

I have a more involved question: I made a new page which was later deleted, then found that others had previously done so but it had been repeatedly deleted. How do I appeal this decision to delete a page? (and to whom?) If you know or can direct me to someone who does, it would be especially helpful to note that on my page. thanks again Jvol (talk) 00:25, 28 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Malta+ edit

Actually, I deleted Netherlands and Malta, since they had approved EFSF expansion, and hence don't need to me mentioned anymore, leaving only Slovakia to approve EFSF. I guess sourcing a deletion is a bit tricky? What is the protocol there? If ok with you, I will delete the reference to them again and add only Slovakia, with this source? http://www.businessweek.com/news/2011-10-10/malta-approves-added-powers-for-efsf-shifting-focus-to-slovakia.html

Then again, by the end of tonight, even Slovakia may have approved EFSF expansion, and then the whole paragraph could be deleted? FinHits (talk) 16:28, 11 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

The rest of this exchange can be found here and here, I think now on its way to resolution. Swliv (talk) 18:04, 11 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Welcome moment of update edit

User:FinHits, it turns out, had first started with an edit like the above on my user page. I just found it (and removed it). It took me a little while to figure out the exact course of the exchange all around, but having done so I'll say:

For another chapter in this (broader) story, one may wish to check out this round on Greece. I learned a good deal from it as to how the world works, how Wikipedia works and dare I say? how Wikipedia works in the world. One'll note I've not as of now yet received an answer or a "red-out" action, there; though I'm completely accepting of that resolution-for-the-moment.

I'll also say I've cringed a few times since I wrote "resolution" above on 11 October. Of course I just meant "... of this particular Wikipedia exchange" but I didn't say that ... and the larger situation has been and is of course still hugely unresolved. On we go. Ross MacManus edit

Ha, was wondering whether anyone would pick up on that. WP:NOTINHERITED is a pet hate of mine - if MacManus is a notable enough musician to have his own article here, he's notable enough to be listed under his own career, not his son's. It'd make for quite an interesting discussion on the recent deaths talk page, thinking about it: should we include notable relatives in the description, or limit it to the deceased's own achievements? Apologies for not giving it an edit summary though, I'm terrible for forgetting that. EJBH (talk) 23:46, 28 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Disambiguation link notifications (consolidated; slimmed) edit

Hi. I'm the guilty party. Though I've been getting better. In this section with an amended hed ("Disambiguation link notification of [so-and-so date]" is the norm, I think) I've brought together and emended all the notifications I had strung through this page. I haven't been, and am still not, ready to remove the messages completely (despite the kind offer) -- they are helping me break a tendency to make a simple mistake regularly. Somewhere I think I've commented I wish the bot could stop the edit in process, like the bold-red-letter notifications of "no {{reflist}}" or the like in an edit preview. If one wishes to be sobered, check this DAB Challenge leaderboard. Anyway, hope we can make out the emendations, continue to improve. 16:15 Post script: Page has 29,429 bytes down 6,298 bytes with this emendation. ;-) Swliv (talk) 16:34, 5 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi. In Smothers Brothers, you recently added a link to the disambiguation page KGO (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). M Weiner edit

Got your note. I am a pacifist in matters of Wiki policy. I find the Fresh Air interviews to be routinely interesting and I just added the link while it was fresh in my mind to give a pointer to an interesting resource for further insights. What a person says about themselves in an interview may be more or less reliable than what is said about them in the New York Times. I like the interviews as a resource, so that is why I added the link; on the theory that "more is more" (if it is filtered in some way) when it comes to information and sources. But I have no problem if you want to remove it. I am not clear on how it is improved by taking it away, but maybe it is. I don't have strong enough feelings to debate the point, so if you think it is better to delete it, then your view is OK by me. But thanks for leaving me the comment nonetheless. --Mdukas (talk) 01:05, 31 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

R Gupta edit

I just wanted to clarify a bit of what I was saying. If I was reputation.com I wouldn't be asking to remove his career progress and mentors. I was just trying to emphasis that Wiki is not a news source for updates like ongoing legal cases, its more for decisions. Since you feel and I assume you are correct, that his trial, like that of Rajaratnam's, is notable I will begin the work on that entry and start transfering some of the content. All will be linked to Gupta's entry. I apologize if my wording came off heavy-handed. Monstermike99 (talk) 6:18, 9 May 2012 (UTC)

Gupta Guilty edit

Some editors kind of updated the page but we should create an official page also like SEC_v._Rajaratnam, thoughts? --Monstermike99 (talk) 16:44, 15 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Heard. Not having thought the current "second" ("insider trading cases") page was needed, I'm also not too eager on the proposed third (?; conversion?*) page. I've more recently done some work on the second page, started to feel like it's getting a bit presentable at least. I guess the RGupta chunks could be transferred with a link. I don't see me leading the charge. If you're inclined, I guess I'd say for you to propose your idea on that talk page, let apparently interested ed's know of proposal, see how the comments shake out. Fair? *Do you see the second page continuing at all?
I'll also add the second page was getting a quarter the hits the RGupta page was getting recently. And since 99% of RGupta hits were for the trial, I'd say, that seems a substantial loss of readership/reader-awareness, having the trial stuff carved off primarily over to the second page. That updates my original objection to the second page.
Finally, since writing most of the above, I've been to the second page and found nothing about the conviction there; and to the RGupta page and found it pretty shabby on that front. That it was more important to you to come here than to take care of that leaves me still perplexed by what is driving you. ... For now. Swliv (talk) 19:28, 15 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

But, I just want to let you know that I had not intention of using a "tone" that you found off-putting. Re: Citation edit

I assume you're referring to the bit about censure and the quotation, both of which appear in the original article that you posted: http://www.marketwatch.com/story/big-ten-fines-penn-state-13-mln-in-sandusky-case-2012-07-23.

In the article: "The Big Ten Conference of collegiate athletics on Monday officially censured Penn State University for its role in handling the case of convicted child sexual abuser Jerry Sandusky." and the quote of the Big Ten's statement: "The intent of the sanctions imposed today is not to destroy a great university, but rather to seek justice and constructively assist a member institution with its efforts to reform. From this day forward, as Penn State continues to make amends, the Big Ten conference and its member institutions will continue to engage with them in every aspect of conference membership." --Jtalledo (talk) 20:19, 23 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Oh and on a related note, there's a discussion on the talk page about the Big Jock Knew link, if you've something to say about it. --Jtalledo (talk) 20:20, 23 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
No problem. Actually, the reason I added the info in the first place was because I went to the article you provided and saw there was additional information to add. --Jtalledo (talk) 20:29, 23 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for all your work on the PSCSAS article. Since you've previously done some work on the sections, I was wondering if you could maybe separate the organizational response sections. It is largely divided into responses from shortly after the scandal broke and it sort of jumps forward in time several months through the trial and into the Freeh report and the NCAA/Big Ten sanctions. It would probably be better to section off the initial response stuff from the post-conviction/Freeh report stuff since it just looks chronologically confused. --Jtalledo (talk) 13:53, 24 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks again for the work on the sections - looks fine. --Jtalledo (talk) 15:14, 25 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Disambiguation link notification for January 27 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Monte dei Paschi di Siena, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Bank of Italy .... Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 11:56, 27 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

It was fixed before I got there; but there was another waiting and I fixed it. I've partially removed DPL bot copy at ellipsis for space. :-) Swliv (talk) 05:07, 6 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
