Closed-circuit television

edit

Dear Stassats, Why did you remove the photograph? Isn't it a sort of CCTV device? Thanks - Etan Tal (talk) 08:03, 28 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

This looks like a scanner and a computer screen. It doesn't meet any description in the article. stassats (talk) 14:18, 28 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
Please have a look at
http://www.enhancedvision.com/index.cfm/pid/225/Products/Enhanced/Vision/Merlin/CRT
You can easily realize this IS a CCTV system. I suggest you'll revert your editing, and perhaps expand the article to include this use. Etan Tal (talk) 14:34, 28 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
Simple scanner doesn't qualify as a television. stassats (talk) 16:03, 28 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, but you have probably misunderstood the system: it has no scanning capabilities whatsoever! As clearly stated in the brochure (instrument's specification) it is a CCTV connected to a computer screen. The camera is aimed at a book and enables the user to zoom-in and magnify the printed material to the size he can read. If you still do not understand, I suggest you read the following link: http://www.visioncue.com/MagnilinkZip.html
which explicitly states: "The MagniLink Zip is a stylish, portable CCTV engineered to the highest quality standards.". The fact this instrument is not yet mentioned in the article doesn't prove your claim. I will try to correct this soon too. Hope this convinces now... I'm not interested in the marketing nonsense manufactures put in their brochures. It's no different from a scanner, or a viewfinder of a modern digital camera. Yet none of these devices are qualified as a CCTV. stassats (talk) 17:23, 28 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

edit

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 17:23, 14 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Odd edit

What was the purpose of this edit? ␄ (U+2404) is the character for EOT and ␅ (U+2405) is the character for ENQ. Why did you swap them? Anomie 21:07, 12 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Looks like my font is bogus, it shows them as swapped. Works fine on another computer. stassats (talk) 22:15, 12 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
And upgrading it resolved the issue. stassats (talk) 22:31, 12 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
