ArbCom 2018 election voter message

Hello, SounderBruce. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Paine Field edits

SounderBruce, please look at other airport pages details regarding public transportation. While there are varying levels of detail, most mention specific route numbers that are serviced, whether it is a train or a bus. Some pages even discuss frequencies and hours of operation that the routes run.

I agreed with your comments that I initially had too much detail, which I then scaled down, to details comparable or less than other airport pages public transportation details.

The edits I added to the Paine Field page, elaborated on the Swift Green Line and added reference to the upcoming change to Everett Transit Route 8. These are the only two regular routes that will service the airport. The primary airport entrance, happens to be on Airport Rd & 100th St SW, as displayed by the "Paine Field Snohomish County Airport" sign at the intersection. It also happens that the passenger terminal is being built off of this intersection.

King County Metro 952, is a rush-hour only commuter only route, that is catered to Boeing employees, yet it is mentioned on the page. Why mention King County Metro 952, but not the only two regular routes that will be serving the primary airport entrance/passenger terminal, Swift Green Line and Everett Transit Route 8? This is inconsistent with NPOV.

Look at the Sea-Tac Airport page, which goes into far more detail on public transportation options. Look at the airport pages of Oakland, Vancouver, as other examples.

@MEA707: The correct articles to look to for inspiration are those with FA/GA status, which are signs of proper peer reviewing and compliance with project-wide standards. Your examples are regular battlegrounds for these kinds of changes and can't be trusted to present anything standardized.

Back to the changes: I agree that transit information is needed, but your edits went too far in adding information that would violate WP:NOTDIR. We should prioritize current service, along with notable future projects; Everett's upcoming March changes are not exactly pinned down and thus should be taken with a grain of salt. The peak-only services from Metro and CT are notable and would need to be included for compliance with NPOV, which explicitly forbids this kind of favoritism. It is, however, not necessary to include route numbers (which can change from year to year) or bus frequencies (which are also subject to periodic changes). @SounderBruce When the route numbers change, then you change the route number in the Wikipedia article. No different than an airport adding a new addition and therefore having a new set of gates. You update the page accordingly. Same goes with anything that changes. I agreed with removing the route frequencies, and referenced only the route number and destination. I read the NOTDIR criteria, and do not agree with you at all that my latest edits are in violation of NOTDIR. I provide no details regarding frequencies or schedules. Just route numbers and stops/stations, that's keeping it high level. Regarding Everett's upcoming March changes, as of this past Wednesday November 21, the routes and frequencies are finalized, and are no longer listed as "Proposed." Short of massive uproar from the public, there should not be much if any changes. Please review this recent page update on Everett Transit's website: https://www.everetttransit.org/2019routes Regarding the peak only services, I did not remove King Country Metro 952 references in any of my edits. In fact, there was nothing in the previous edits I removed. @SounderBruce For the sake of further consistency and NPOV, we should add reference to the rush hour only Community Transit 105 which currently serves that intersection, since we're mentioning King County Metro 952. This way all four routes are mentioned, the two rush hour routes King County Metro 952 and Community Transit 105 and the two upcoming regular routes Swift Green Line and Everett Transit 8. @MEA707: My edits already included Route 105 (which serves Mill Creek and Bothell, and will be directly replaced by the Green Line). Again, you should not use route numbers unless the articles is directly related to transit (e.g. a station). @SounderBruce Take a look at this page before I made even the first edit, it referenced Everett Transit Route 12, King County Metro 952, and the Swift Green Line. Those are route numbers, and those were not my additions, they were already there long before I came along. Where is the reference to this "well-established convention" that route numbers should not be listed in an article unless it was an article directly related to transit? And why wasn't this "well-established convention" enforced in this article until I came along? And why isn't this "well-established convention" enforced in countless other airport articles, especially the much higher profile and visibility airport articles like London Heathrow, Paris Charles de Gaulle, New York JFK, etc? @MEA707: It turns out that Wikipedia is a volunteer-run project that has volunteers who aren't omniscient. The Green Line is not a route number, but a branded BRT service (and the difference is clear as a local or visitor), but the other bus routes should be boiled down to describing things that aren't easily changed: their general corridor, and their operator.

The established convention on bus routes and their notability/worthiness to include in articles is usually seen in bus-related articles. This does not include train lines or BRT lines, which have more prominent branding and are given proper coverage in secondary sources. Long discussions at AFD and smaller RfCs like Talk:Oakland Coliseum station have led to a general consensus to not include individual route numbers if they aren't absolutely crucial.

Looking at your examples, and discounting New York because it is a very special case when it comes to public transportation coverage on en-wiki, I don't see specific routes being given prominent mentions. Heathrow mentions where you can find buses (and the separate bus station article doesn't even list the route numbers); Charls de Gaulle does mention two bus routes, but no details beyond their numbers (and should be removed anyway); and other U.S. airport articles don't mention specific route numbers. @SounderBruce Route numbers/route colors/route letters are all forms of route identifiers. If Community Transit wanted to, they could have branded the Swift BRT lines as numbers or letters, but they chose colors in this case. But it's still the same concept. It's to differentiate it from the other Swift line, the Blue Line, and then eventually the Orange and Red Lines. I agree that a BRT has more prominence than a regular bus line, and a train line has even more prominence. I looked through the Oakland Coliseum station talk page, and cannot find anything conclusive that states route numbers need to be excluded. The consensus was that Wikipedia is not a timetable and should hot have schedules, but that bus routes and destinations are appropriate.

Regarding the examples, New York JFK is not the only special case. Take a look at the pages of LaGuardia Airport, Boston Logan, San Francisco, and LAX, all list bus route numbers. LAX is an example of an airport currently without rail service, so there is emphasis on the bus routes provided. The Charles de Gaulle page has a specific Bus section under Ground Transportation and references 7 bus lines including 2 night only lines when the RER train is not running. London Heathrow, is different, in as you pointed out there is a link to a separate article for the Heathrow bus station. The Heathrow bus station, is very big and busy with many many bus lines. You are correct, it does not list bus route numbers, probably due to the complexity of many bus operators and the addition of long-distance buses in addition to local buses.

Playing devil's advocate here, but if we look at the Bellevue Transit Center page, it has a table referencing the 20 bus lines and destinations served. Yet, the Heathrow bus station page, does not list the bus routes/destinations. So which do you think is correct for Wikipedia purposes, the Bellevue Transit Center page or the Heathrow bus station page? Both are bus transit centers, yet one has bus route and destination details and the other does not. MEA707 (talk) 20:45, 26 November 2018 (UTC)

Seattle infobox

With regards to you reverting my last edit on the Seattle article, you said that it was unnecessary to include the official name for the city. Shouldn't the Seattle infobox follow the standard format of every other American city article? I have yet to see an infobox of a large city in the United States that doesn't display the official name as well as the common name. It just isn't consistent with other articles. Hey! I am a Bellevue Community member who is very excited about this project. There is currently very little information about it on Wikipedia, only a few comments under Kemper Freeman's bio. I really think there needs to be some information out there, and what I have tried to add is all accurate based on press releases and the website of the organization. I even asked for permission to use the architectural rending, to which the organization was happy to let me do, and they own the rights. All of the content has been verified, and I would appreciate it if you would stop deleting what I've added. Especially the change to reflect the section of the page being called "Arts and Culture" vs. simply "Culture" because multiple Arts organizations are mentioned and the title "Arts and Culture" is more accurate. @Gonzafer001: Stadiums are covered under WP:NBUILD and WP:GNG. Tuesday evening, January 15, 2019, 6-9pm at Wayward Coffeehouse, 6417 Roosevelt Way NE #104, Seattle WA 98115 Wikipedia Day celebrates the anniversary of the founding of Wikipedia. This year in Seattle, Cascadia Wikimedians' celebration of Wikipedia Day will focus on a different closely related project: Wikimedia Commons, which (among other things) functions as the media repository for Wikipedia. When you see a photo or map in Wikipedia, or hear an audio clip, etc., it usually is hosted on Wikimedia Commons and "transcluded" into Wikipedia. Wikimedia Commons is a mix of users' own works and curated third-party content, either public domain or free-licensed. Our event is a hands-on workshop in curating third-party content, mostly early 20th-century photos of Seattle and other West Coast locations. Currently, Wikimedia Commons has two intersecting sets of older photos, one from the Asahel Curtis Photo Company and the other a more general set of Seattle images. At this meetup, we will celebrate the 18th anniversary of Wikipedia by further curating these images by the creation and addition of categories, adding ImageNotes where useful, linking other versions of the same photo, enhancing the descriptions, and identifying and correcting errors. User:Jmabel has already categorized over 1000 images and corrected several hundred wrong dates, misidentified buildings, and etc., but there is much more to be done. Greenhaven, Ga and Neighbors Against Greenhaven being removed from the page

Unclear as to why the content from Neighbors of Greenhaven is being removed from Greenhaven, Ga. It has verifiable sources in that it has been mentioned in not only local media such as AJC.com (the main metro paper), Decaturish (a local site covering Decatur, which is a city in the proposed Greenhaven) and in a national media outlet, CityLab, as well.

There is huge opposition to this which is why it has not been adopted into law and this all relates to the article. can you offer specific suggestions on why it keeps being removed and perhaps what can be removed to allow it? It doesn't appear that the content violates any rules.

The website address for Neighbors Against Greenhaven continues to be removed and yet Greenhaven's website is clearly a website about advocating for Greenhaven.

@Bri: Definitely a real thing. There's been cases where light rail is rejected in favor of a cheaper (but "equivalent") BRT plan, which is then watered down to remove anything that would make it true BRT (off-board fare payment, bus-only lanes, transit signal priority).
