RFA2024 update: no longer accepting new proposals in phase I

edit

Hey there! This is to let you know that phase I of the 2024 requests for adminship (RfA) review is now no longer accepting new proposals. Lots of proposals remain open for discussion, and the current round of review looks to be on a good track towards making significant progress towards improving RfA's structure and environment. I'd like to give my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has given us their idea for change to make RfA better, and the same to everyone who has given the necessary feedback to improve those ideas. The following proposals remain open for discussion:

  • Proposal 2, initiated by HouseBlaster, provides for the addition of a text box at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship reminding all editors of our policies and enforcement mechanisms around decorum.
  • Proposals 3 and 3b, initiated by Barkeep49 and Usedtobecool, respectively, provide for trials of discussion-only periods at RfA. The first would add three extra discussion-only days to the beginning, while the second would convert the first two days to discussion-only.
  • Proposal 5, initiated by SilkTork, provides for a trial of RfAs without threaded discussion in the voting sections.
  • Proposals 6c and 6d, initiated by BilledMammal, provide for allowing users to be selected as provisional admins for a limited time through various concrete selection criteria and smaller-scale vetting.
  • Proposal 7, initiated by Lee Vilenski, provides for the "General discussion" section being broken up with section headings.
  • Proposal 9b, initiated by Reaper Eternal, provides for the requirement that allegations of policy violation be substantiated with appropriate links to where the alleged misconduct occured.
  • Proposals 12c, 21, and 21b, initiated by City of Silver, Ritchie333, and HouseBlaster, respectively, provide for reducing the discretionary zone, which currently extends from 65% to 75%. The first would reduce it 65%–70%, the second would reduce it to 50%–66%, and the third would reduce it to 60%–70%.
  • Proposal 13, initiated by Novem Lingaue, provides for periodic, privately balloted admin elections.
  • Proposal 14, initiated by Kusma, provides for the creation of some minimum suffrage requirements to cast a vote.
  • Proposals 16 and 16c, initiated by Thebiguglyalien and Soni, respectively, provide for community-based admin desysop procedures. 16 would desysop where consensus is established in favor at the administrators' noticeboard; 16c would allow a petition to force reconfirmation.
  • Proposal 16e, initiated by BilledMammal, would extend the recall procedures of 16 to bureaucrats.
  • Proposal 17, initiated by SchroCat, provides for "on-call" admins and 'crats to monitor RfAs for decorum.
  • Proposal 18, initiated by theleekycauldron, provides for lowering the RfB target from 85% to 75%.
  • Proposal 24, initiated by SportingFlyer, provides for a more robust alternate version of the optional candidate poll.
  • Proposal 25, initiated by Femke, provides for the requirement that nominees be extended-confirmed in addition to their nominators.
  • Proposal 27, initiated by WereSpielChequers, provides for the creation of a training course for admin hopefuls, as well as periodic retraining to keep admins from drifting out of sync with community norms.
  • Proposal 28, initiated by HouseBlaster, tightens restrictions on multi-part questions.

To read proposals that were closed as unsuccessful, please see Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/2024 review/Phase I/Closed proposals. You are cordially invited once again to participate in the open discussions; when phase I ends, phase II will review the outcomes of trial proposals and refine the implementation details of other proposals. Another notification will be sent out when this phase begins, likely with the first successful close of a major proposal. Happy editing! theleekycauldron (talk • she/her), via:

Hi, can you see my sandbox page on webpage creation on artist Gyuri Hollosy? If so do you have any comments/suggestions? --Rocomaka (talk) 15:47, 31 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Rocomaka: As far as pages by very new editors go, it's not bad.
My main concern is that the sources cited do not prove the subject's notability; I recommend you skim that page.
The page is also not very in-line with Wikipedia styles and norms, but of course, you could not have been expected to follow all of those. That page I just linked is massive and sprawls into dozens of subpages.
Some of those nitpicks include:
Don't worry about fixing all that just yet—prove the subject's notability first. It'd be wasted effort otherwise. Snowmanonahoe (talk · contribs · typos) 16:44, 31 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you -very valuable feedback
Hear you on notability- have compared with other artists that are at same level that have Wikepedia page and seems to have better profile as an artist. Notability factors I took into account: verifiable public commissions in art, TV interviews, press interviews, publication (book) -- will double check again -- will I have opportunity to defend if challenged? Rocomaka (talk) 19:40, 31 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Rocomaka: The only thing that will prove notability is citations to reliable, published, independent secondary sources that write about the subject. Snowmanonahoe (talk · contribs · typos) 19:44, 31 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:Paid editing is the policy on this. As for disclosing your paid editing, you have a couple options. No rcats on cat redirects

edit

Most redirect category templates state This template should not be substituted nor used to tag soft redirects. Since category redirects are soft redirects, this means that you shouldn't put {{R from alternative name}} inside {{Category redirect}}, as you did in this edit. This caused Category:Gay people to appear as a subcategory of Category:Redirects from alternative names. I've already fixed it, and it's not a big deal; just wanted to let you know. Hi there! Phase I of the Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/2024 review has concluded, with several impactful changes gaining community consensus and proceeding to various stages of implementation. Some proposals will be implemented in full outright; others will be discussed at phase II before being implemented; and still others will proceed on a trial basis before being brought to phase II. The following proposals have gained consensus:

See the project page for a full list of proposals and their outcomes. A huge thank-you to everyone who has participated so far :) looking forward to seeing lots of hard work become a reality in phase II. theleekycauldron (talk), via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 08:09, 5 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Question from Swarleystinson88 (07:12, 15 May 2024)

edit

Hello, I recently added information along with reliable sources but it got edited out by a senior editor quoting “for sake of neutrality” even when it’s a necessary information and a fact stated in the source. --Swarleystinson88 (talk) 07:12, 15 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

The information is indeed verifiable, but not all verifiable information needs to be included. Consider following the steps of the BOLD, revert, discuss cycle. If you're not convinced by Kailash29792's reasoning, you can continue to discuss the issue on the talk page, where other editors can chime in. Snowmanonahoe (talk · contribs · typos) 11:27, 15 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Before I could even talk to him, he went to (Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents) and tried to get me blocked accusing me of being a sock. He didn’t ping me to discuss. Swarleystinson88 (talk) 15:11, 15 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Swarelystinson88: In my opinion the report was way out of line (as I explained in my comment on the thread). Regardless, it has now been closed. My original advice still applies, though I understand if you no longer wish to interact with Kailash29792. Snowmanonahoe (talk · contribs · typos) 15:45, 15 May 2024 (UTC) Fix ping again Swarleystinson88 Snowmanonahoe (talk · contribs · typos) 15:48, 15 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
I would still like to talk to him about the issue with the article and hopefully resolve it. But I would like your insight on the edit I made.
So India has regional film industries that produce movies in a specific market. The film “Mayabazar (1957)” was produced by Telugu cinema (Tollywood), and was filmed as a bilingual in Telugu and Tamil. Even today many films are shot as bilinguals but they are produced by a certain industry like Baahubali franchise.
So, I added information about the industry that the film was produced in. This information particularly for regional film cinema is important when people search for it. The sources verify that information as well.
The current article only gives information about in what languages the film was shot in but not the information of which industry produced it. I only want to add where the film is produced and it has nothing to do with it being a bilingual. Swarleystinson88 (talk) 14:03, 16 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Swarleystinson88: Well, the thing with doing that by calling it a "Telegu film" is that it looks a lot like you're favoring one of the two languages. Maybe mention the whole "Telegu Cinema" name or something.
I suggest you talk about this on the talk page though, I don't know what I'm talking about and editors over there do. Snowmanonahoe (talk · contribs · typos) 14:54, 17 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Coltit

edit

Hi Snowmanonahoe. Your recent edits to {{Coltit}} seem to have resulted in a cell value of:

! {{Coltit|x=}} <some text>

not getting the grey background colour, which it used to. See here for an example. Are you able to make further changes to {{Coltit}} so that it gets the grey background once again? (In case you're wondering why anyone would want to use a cell value of "! {{Coltit|x=}} <some text>", the Formula One WikiProject has a series of templates which evaluate to "{{Coltit|x=}} <some text>" under various circumstances, and we currently use those templates to populate table cells both with and without the "!" at the start. Thanks. DH85868993 (talk) 00:35, 19 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for the appearance of ignoring this. Looking into it now. At a glance I am very confused why this is happening. Snowmanonahoe (talk · contribs · typos) 03:43, 19 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
