Wüst edit

Always good to have you aboard, Sluzzelin when I'm grappling with these texts in German. Especially as you saw fit to cite one Wüst as "quashing the White Rose" and another who "denounced...colleagues to the Gestapo" – the understanding that you reveal is uncommon, and greatly valued in a field that tends to attract the wrong kind of attention while being shunned by even generally sympathetic people. Thank you for what and how you contribute; it does matter. -- Deborahjay (talk) 20:20, 21 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Reference Desk edit

The purpose of the reference desk is to educate users by answering questions with sensible answers that help the questioner. Deliberately misunderstanding the question and posting nonsense can be considered vandalism. I am certain that most questioners would not appreciate it if their questions were treated flippantly and responses consisted of nonsensical answers deliberately designed to confuse. Such responses do not encourage new questioners to use the service and indeed can have the effect of encouraging malicious users into also responding to genuine questions with false responses designed to deliberately confuse the questioner. This defeats the purpose of the reference desk. The contribution I removed does not help answer the question and only served to discourage anyone answering the question with a serious answer. As I am the person who asked the question I think I am in a reasonably good position in which to judge whether the response was helpful. I would appreciate it if you did not restore the comment again. If you want to be helpful research the answer to the question. If you don't want to be helpful please don't disrupt the page. Thank you. Jooler (talk) 14:40, 13 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for explaining your rationale. I commented at the reference desk talk page, but Zain said it better here than I could have. ---Sluzzelin talk 12:10, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ashanti edit

According to a message you sent me, you informed me that I had unnecessarily edited the Ashanti page. I did not edit that page, nor have I actually seen that page before you messaged me.

Batmanbinsupaman (talk) 10:12, 11 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Batmanbinsupaman. It took me a while to figure out what you are talking about, as neither I (nor anyone else) has posted on your talk page so far. So whatever message I left, it wasn't addressed to user:Batmanbinsupaman.
I think this is what happened: About 20 months ago, I posted a message on an IP address's talk page. Apparently, your server assigned you the same IP address that had vandalized the article on Ashanti 20 months ago, and an orange message bar must have popped up on your screen, directing you to "your" talk page. You needn't be the same person, simply the same IP address. Anyway, I hope you're no longer confused. I won't link to the specific changes made in 2007, because I don't wish to make your current IP address public. Best. ---Sluzzelin talk 19:01, 12 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Happy edit

So happy to see you editing here again, Sluzz... Julia Rossi (talk) 21:36, 14 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your always kind words, Giulia. In my travels, I revisited another happy being named Rossi. A cousin of yours, perhaps? Viva La Felicità! ---Sluzzelin talk 23:11, 14 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Viva La Felicità molto bene. Grazie Sluzzelin. As I bopped along I decided we are about the same height (but he is round), sing and dance, and like dogs. There must be 6 degrees in there somewhere. I didn't dare put all this through altavista in case you fell off your chair laughing – OH&S y'know, Giulia...  : ) Julia Rossi (talk) 08:22, 15 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

FYI edit

As a courtesy, I've decided to notify. What do you think? -hydnjo talk 04:10, 19 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I think it's extraordinarily courteous of you, and it reflects badly on the lazy editor who, after having made this announcement, never notifies anyone, whether in advance or after the fact. I hope said user will try harder and inform newly-listed editors in the future. ---Sluzzelin talk 09:52, 19 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Okay since you guys are doing and I don't want to be the odd one out . . . At least more folks will know about it and maybe we'll find even more regulars left out. Btw, 200 before 2009, whadaya say? Zain Ebrahim (talk) 13:16, 19 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Ha ha, I had predicted 200 by November, and time is running out. I do think it's a polite and good thing to inform the user, and now that we add them sporadically, it's not such a huge effort anymore. Thanks, both. ---Sluzzelin talk 15:24, 19 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the notification, and for being on the list! Much appreciated! --NorwegianBlue talk 20:16, 19 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Those thanks have to go to hydnjo who discovered and rectified a remarkable omission. I've been appreciating your contributions for many months, NorwegianBlue. If you notice other omissions, please do add. It's a fun list, and I have actually looked up names there when I couldn't quite remember the exact spelling. ---Sluzzelin talk 01:04, 20 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Reference desk regulars edit

No problem with that. I used to hang out there quite a bit but I got annoyed with the amount of questions that could have been answered by using Google or the relevent Wikipedia article. It was a comment from JackofOz that frew me back. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 03:07, 20 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I noticed that you called me Kjoonlee on my talk page - for clarity, I am not Kjoonlee (that is not an alias or anything, I am a totally different unrelated person). It was probably just a copy-paste mistake but I just want to make sure the record's straight... Thanks for adding me to the list! Nimur (talk) 01:32, 30 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, I had copy-pasted and the phone was ringing, and I got distracted, and I didn't pay enough attention, and it was completely my bad, and I didn't mean to imply you were someone else (nor did I ever think that or even spend any time wondering whether you were anyone else, but Nimur). Apologies. ---Sluzzelin talk 04:26, 30 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Eh? -- Response to your post on my Talk page edit

What I removed was the link to Emily Davidson which is clearly inappropriate. I restored the "see also" list because in my opinion a list of references to articles about the most famous SNCC leaders meets the standard of "editorial judgment and common sense." Yes, I know that there are links to those people in the body of the article. But the article is fairly long and complex and it seems reasonable to me to provide a list in one place of links to articles about SNCC leaders. I used the term "vandalism" because the way it appeared on my watchlist was that someone had deleted a list of real SNCC leaders and replaced them with Emily Davidson who had nothing to do with SNCC. I apologize for misunderstanding that your deletion of SNCC names was unrelated to the addition of Emily Davidson. Brucehartford (talk) 17:04, 15 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

new WP:RDREG userbox edit

This user is a Reference desk regular.

The box to the right is the newly created userbox for all RefDesk regulars. Since you are an RD regular, you are receiving this notice to remind you to put this box on your userpage! (but when you do, don't include the |no. Just say {{WP:RD regulars/box}} ) This adds you to Category:RD regulars, which is a must. So please, add it. Don't worry, no more spam after this - just check WP:RDREG for updates, news, etc. flaminglawyerc 23:02, 5 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Happy 50th Birthday? edit

Is it yours and is it true? If so, then you are but a pup yet. Bonne Anniversairs and may you keep having them until you catch up to me. (My grandmother used to wish us that. She died at 89, so even I have almost 30 years left.) ៛ Bielle (talk) 22:48, 11 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

lol, I noticed how ambiguous my edit summary sounded, so I added a clarification in my next one. On Jan 12, 50 years ago, Motown Records was founded. The radio was playing Smokey Robinson here; I got all sentimental, and decided to celebrate it on my user page As for Sluzzelin, even puppier, though he feels like an old dog, 10 years to go, hit the big four last year. (I don't think I've ever congratulated myself, and I'm too paranoid about privacy-invaders to make my b'day known). Thank you so much for the sentiment though, Bielle. I appreciate it all the more. :-) ---Sluzzelin talk 23:01, 11 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
I missed the clarification. Timing is everything. I remember 40. I was living in Edmonton then, where the first flake of snow that falls in September is still there in April. I agree about leaving birthdays off the Internet. The thought was friendly. ៛ Bielle (talk) 01:34, 12 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Hey, I passed through Edmonton twice, 1975 and 1989, but it was summer on both occasions. The second time I spent one night in Edmonton, because I simply had to see West Edmonton Mall (have always loved North American gigantism). The Oilers weren't playing that evening though. It's a shame the Super Continental's services closed down soon after, I really loved that lo-o-o-ong ride. ---Sluzzelin talk 06:42, 12 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
If "Super Continental" means the cross-Canada train, it still runs from Halifax to Vancouver. VIARail runs it and it is the, surprisingly enough "The Canadian". I love trains myself and I was looking at this one just a few weeks ago. The trip is on my spouse's "Before I Die" list and I wondered about how many lotteries we would have to win to do it: not as many as I had imagined. One wheelchair and two people over 60 have some side benefits, it would seem. ៛ Bielle (talk) 06:58, 12 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Oh really? Wow. I remember Canadians telling me I was lucky to make the trip at that time, because it was about to shut down soon. Well I'm thrilled, it's really a beautiful journey. I only rode Toronto-Vancouver twice, and haven't crossed the provinces from West to East yet. All good things coming in threes, I should make my third trip joining you guys! ---Sluzzelin talk 07:17, 12 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Rollback edit

You've been around for years, and I've never caught you doing anything that I would describe as 'damn foolish', so — it is done. Enjoy your new link.

Always rollback responsibly. Do not attempt to rollback while under the influence of alcohol or medications which may induce drowsiness. Rollback may cause efficiency, usefulness, productivity, and vandal-whacking. If your rollback sessions exceed five hours in length, or you experience discomfort or irritation, discontinue use of rollback, shut down your computer, and go outside!

I saw your note on Friday's page, and couldn't think of a good reason to keep you waiting. Cheers! TenOfAllTrades(talk) 15:38, 12 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your participation in my recent RfA, which failed with 90/38/3; whether you supported, opposed or remained neutral.

Special thanks go out to Moreschi, Dougweller and Frank for nominating me, and I will try to take everyone's comments on board.

Thanks again for your participation. I am currently concentrating my efforts on the Wikification WikiProject. It's fun! Please visit the project and wikify a few articles to help clear the backlog. If you can recruit some more participants, then even better.

Apologies if you don't like RfA thankspam, this message was delivered by a bot which can't tell whether you want it or not. Feel free to remove it. Itsmejudith (talk), 22:53, 21 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

RD answer + Barnstar offer edit

As long as it doesn't lead to hundreds of people bothering me on my personal talk page with RD questions so I can't do my job anymore, it's fine with me :) Can I interest you in earning another barnstar? I've made of a post to the reward board in which I offer an award to anyone who references an completely unreferenced article (or three DYK-sized stubs). - Mgm|(talk) 11:43, 22 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
