Draft Dotto Rangimoto

Chomachoma (talk) 18:28, 23 June 2018 (UTC)Hellow Shadowowl

I read reasons that led my draft declined, i edited and submited it after focusing on the factors that led to the rejection. Its true the named person is Tanzanian poetry and won the said award. I removed other awards infomation from the article because of its source does not meet wikipedia policies, but about THE MABATI-CORNELL KISWAHILI PRIZE FOR AFRICAN LITERATURE I think its source is trustworthy and reliable.

BBC SWAHILI and VOICE OF AMERICA(VOA SWAHILI) Radios reported on Dotto Rangimoto awarded the said prize and they posted it on their websites [1][2], also Official website of CORNELL UNIVERSITY which is one of the sponsors of the prize posted it,[3][4] not only that, the well known and most widely read Tanzanian Newspaper, THE CITIZEN reported this issue.[5]

Am new editor and i think it would have been a great benefit to the people if Poetry Dotto Rangimoto informations added on WIKIPEDIA, and I think these are reliable, independent and trustworthy sources.

I humbly wait for further improvements instructions of my article.

THANKS

I just reviewed that article (left it unreviewed actually) and substantially cut down on the puffery. Then I noticed that this had actually been declined at AfC by you but moved into mainspace by author regardless. Do you want to have another look now and see what you think about suitability now that I've removed most of the blow-hard religious and academic claims? Honestly not sure about it. Might work as a sports personality article now but I'm open to slapping more promotional tags on it :/ Cheers --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 08:38, 25 June 2018 (UTC)

@Elmidae: It does not look very good judging on the first 10 sources, and it comes close to CSD'ing it for A7.

Films based on cartoons

Thank you for spotting that Draft:List of films based on cartoons was about to be deleted. As you saw I then dragged it into mainspace at List of feature films based on cartoons because draft space is such a hostile environment. Is G13 deferral any better respected than {{promising draft}}? I've changed List of films based on cartoons to be a redirect. I hope it can now be worked on rather than being resisted. Thincat (talk) 12:31, 27 June 2018 (UTC)

People adding promising draft templates do not check the article (I've seen bad and copyvio articles with that template) and G13 postponing at least keeps it for 6 months. Usually it doesn't get deleted after someone postponed it with a comment. It is always better than mass-tagging articles with a template that screams I think this article is great, and I dont care what everyone else says, because now it can't be deleted. -- » Shadowowl | talk 12:38, 27 June 2018 (UTC)

Moving article from personal sandbox without consent

I am not pleased that you moved Draft:Julia Pfeiffer Burns, Draft:Charley Smith (Cowboy) and Draft:51st Engineer Combat Battalion from my personal sandbox without seeking input from me first. The last two articles contain substantial amounts of copyrighted text which must be substantially edited before the articles can be published. It would be a waste of time for someone to review them, but you put them in the queue for review. As the two articles currently stand, they ought to be deleted if someone attempted to publish them. While Draft name space may be your preferred location for draft articles, there is no policy that requires it. As stated in WP:UD, Drafts in both userspace and the Draft namespace are acceptable. You have acted capriciously and without consideration for another user's preferences. You would have shown some courtesy if you had bothered to ask me before. I do not appreciate your unilateral actions. Please undo your moves. — btphelps (talk to me) (what I've done) 17:17, 27 June 2018 (UTC)

Well, well. That explains the knots that the 51st Engineer Combat Battalion is tied in. Substantial amounts of copyrighted material should not be anywhere in Wikipedia, whether in sandboxes or in draft space, let alone in article space, but should not be anywhere in Wikipedia and may be deleted from anywhere without notice or warning. Robert McClenon (talk) 18:15, 27 June 2018 (UTC)
Well, thanks a lot Shadowowl, you just got several days of work of mine deleted. Great job. — btphelps (talk to me) (what I've done) 18:34, 27 June 2018 (UTC)
User:btphelps - It wasn't your work, but that of the authors from whom you copied it, and you had several years in which to paraphrase it, but you were apparently using user space to host copy-pasted materials indefinitely. Robert McClenon (talk) 18:40, 27 June 2018 (UTC)
Nonetheless, it was a work in progress, although not a priority on my part. While you may feel smug in your action deleting the draft, if you bothered to assume good faith and consider my contributions to WP, showing a smidgen of courtesy might have been appropriate prior to wholesale deletion, perhaps giving me the chance to immediately clean up the draft in my sandbox. I am not aware of a WP policy that prohibits non-indexed user drafts from containing copy righted content while under development, whether for one week or one year or more. All copyright policy I've read refer to draft or published articles. — btphelps (talk to me) (what I've done) 18:52, 27 June 2018 (UTC)
Shadowowl, you moved other drafts out of my sandbox that are NOT ready for public Draft namespace. Please move them back to my sandbox. And then stay out of my sandbox. — btphelps (talk to me) (what I've done) 19:00, 27 June 2018 (UTC)
I moved them into your sandbox, but they were deleted. -- » Shadowowl | talk 05:59, 28 June 2018 (UTC)
  • Regarding, I am not aware of a WP policy that prohibits non-indexed user drafts from containing copy righted content while under development, please see Copying text from other sources. For the record, it says: Wikipedia cannot host extensive copying of non-compatible copyrighted material anywhere, not even in talk or user pages, not even temporarily. There's some other issues regarding submitting somebody else's draft, which I've commented on here, but the copyright question is clear. -- RoySmith (talk) 13:49, 29 June 2018 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of 1953 Fukuoka marathon

The article 1953 Fukuoka marathon has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

An non-notable event.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Unreliable sources at both Rudy Vallee Melodies and The Stein Song (film)

Hello. I saw your tagging at both Rudy Vallee Melodies and The Stein Song (film) for unreliable sources. I am writing to you to see what sources are unreliable. This is due to the citations in the articles being books written by high-profile people. Your help will be appreciated. Thank you. In Memoriam A.H.H.What, you egg?. 09:05, 3 July 2018 (UTC)

Youtube is generally a unreliable source. Regards, -- » Shadowowl | talk 16:38, 3 July 2018 (UTC)
I only cite YouTube for minor things, things I don't need another source for. For example, in The Stein Song (film), I only cite YouTube for things like characters, and release years, which are clearly in the YouTube source. I don't need another source for release year, as that is in the film, which is cited as a YouTube link. The rest of the article else is cited with books written by high-profile people. It's the same for Rudy Vallee Melodies. Regards. In Memoriam A.H.H.What, you egg?. 17:55, 3 July 2018 (UTC)

Draft:Omar Sharif (cricketer)

Hi! I wanted to check in with you regarding an AfC review I was doing for the above draft. I was about to decline because the article had recently been draftified for being one of a large number of low-quality BLP stubs with only Cricinfo as a source created by a single user (see: [1]) with no improvements made since being removed from mainspace. Speedy deletion declined: Fear Factor (Australian game show)

Hello Shadowowl, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Fear Factor (Australian game show), a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: I see no evidence that the editor was blocked at the time when this article was created. Being created by an editor who was destined to be blocked years later is not grounds for deletion. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 21:41, 13 July 2018 (UTC)

In my opinion there is nothing to stop you from restoring your PROD, if you choose to. Wikipedia:Proposed deletion says that the ban on restoring removed PRODs "excludes removals that are clearly not an objection to deletion", which was obviously so in this case. Proposed deletion of Jamie Mueller

Hello. I just wanted to let you know I removed the WP:PROD tag on Jamie Mueller. Nominations for deletion

Please note that the state of sourcing in articles is typically not a valid rationale for deletion as per WP:NEXIST. Articles that lack sources or are unsourced do not automatically qualify for deletion, with the exception of unreferenced biographies of living persons. You have nominated articles for deletion lately that lack valid rationales for deletion. See WP:DEL-REASON for examples of proper deletion rationales. Also, if you haven't already done so, please familiarize yourself with WP:BEFORE. North America1000 23:56, 16 July 2018 (UTC)

Ok. So I should PROD them? But the problem is, if I PROD them, there is a high chance no-one will see it, and it will just get deleted anyway. I take an example : The Indian article that I AFD'ed, Charakonda. It would probably be deleted if I slapped a PROD on it. Because I took it to AFD, someone cleaned it up and made it a keepworthy stub. That made me AFD the articles instead of prodding. -- » Shadowowl | talk 00:15, 17 July 2018 (UTC)
You can do as you'd like, but AfD nominations need to have valid rationales for deletion. For topics that may be contentious, whereby in part people are likely to disagree regarding the topic's notability, or disagree on other matters, AfD is the way to go in my opinion. Furthermore, as per WP:PROD, "PROD must only be used if no opposition to the deletion is expected." North America1000 00:48, 17 July 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for the explaination! -- » Shadowowl | talk 09:40, 17 July 2018 (UTC)

BLPPROD

Hello. What you can read at WP:BLPPROD is

"To be eligible for a BLPPROD tag, the entry must be a biography of a living person and contain no sources in any form (as references, external links, etc., reliable or otherwise) supporting any statements made about the person in the biography."

This means that you CANNOT put a BLPPROD tag on an article about a person that has a functioning link to an IMDb page about this same person, as you did at Beau Weaver or Roberta Weiss (except in the unlikely case where IMDb wouldn't support any statement). If you are unconvinced, look at Wikipedia talk:Proposed deletion of biographies of living people/Archive 7#RfC: Articles with only IMDb references eligible for BLPPROD? My suggestions to you based on the ANI thread

Wikipedia fo Peace Logo

Hi, hope you are doing well.

Thanks for keeping your cool at the ANI. Some editors feel that there is a lack of WP:BEFORE in your AfD noms. I will not say if that is justified or not.

But I would say one should not only religiously follow WP:BEFORE WP:ATD but also should be seen by others following the same. May be just keep this in mind.

Decide over these suggestions and come up and Post at ANI on what you will be following. This will help improve your image at ANI that you genuinely are taking the critical comments in good faith and would like to improve over it. Please note that this is not a WP:BATTLE you will not loose anything by proposing your key takeaway from the thread at ANI, but will only win hearts at ANI.

Thats all I had to say, I am sure you know all of this already but I just felt i should re-iterate the same. I would love to see you continuing at AfDs. thank you.--DBigXray 17:19, 4 August 2018 (UTC)

@DBigXray: Thank you. It is just the battle between (ultra)keepists, (ultra)deletionist, and people who are in the middle. I am no longer focussing on 1 creator, but am instead looking at the 11/12 year unsourced pages (like the JangoBox page). There is a lot of spam there, but let it over to Eastmain to keep the unsourced spam/hoax in Wikipedia. Then your Nomination statement at AfD must include that it was written as such and you have removed the content following WP:NOTGUIDE. Makes the nomination statement more stronger. and leads to other editors "seeing" that you did your due diligence on WP:BEFORE--DBigXray 17:51, 4 August 2018 (UTC)
I've withdrawn it. It now has a source. » Shadowowl | talk 17:54, 4 August 2018 (UTC)

User:Joe Roe had raised some very valid points on flooding AfD. Can you also put on yourself a personal restriction of not nominating more than X (you choose X) articles in a day. This is to allow you more time to search and judge if the article really deserves AfD or just a [citation needed] tag. may be in this process you can also improve some of them.--DBigXray 21:22, 4 August 2018 (UTC)

I am no longer mass-nominating article's. » Shadowowl | talk 21:24, 4 August 2018 (UTC)

I am going raise this again. You had to withdraw one nomination today and two others clearly fail any attempt for you to do BEFORE. I'm not going to take this to ANI, but simply ask you to stop nominating without doing BEFORE. Walter Görlitz (talk) 17:51, 21 August 2018 (UTC)

I believe I have brought this draft to a very acceptable state by following the comments from a few reviewers. I request you to please review the page and move it to the articles section. This is my first article and I am pretty keen on wanting to see it get accepted. Please let me know if it needs any more improvements. Thank you. Ubhasrk (talk) 08:16, 22 August 2018 (UTC)

Oxygen Tower

Can you explain to me what the issue is with my page on Oxygen Tower?

I understand it is brief, but the project is still at a very early stage and I plan to update and maintain my page as the construction project progresses.

Otherwise I see no issue with my page on Oxygen Tower. Thecactusdan (talk) 20:24, 24 August 2018 (UTC)

@Thecactusdan: This article fails our notability policy for buildings, WP:NBUILD. Wikipedia is also not a directory. » Shadowowl | talk 20:26, 24 August 2018 (UTC)

Speedy deletion - Momodou Ceesay (artist)

What was this speedy delete nomination about? Momodou Ceesay (artist) is (at a glance) a plausible article with some work to be done reducing the quotations in the Career section. You nominated it as WP:G11, as if it needed a total rewrite and should be deleted first. The editor notified came to WP:Teahouse rightly confused here, which is how I saw it. Atlantic306 improved that section one edit later and removed the speedy, but even deleting the section would be an obvious alternative to deletion, so I'm really puzzled here. › Mortee talk 19:43, 25 August 2018 (UTC)

After graduation, Ceesay decided to pursue his true passion and he became an artist. says enough to me, add this to the deleted section and it was spammy enough. » Shadowowl | talk 20:11, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
Spammy enough to remove that sentence, or perhaps the section, not the article. CSD is for articles that have to be deleted not fixed. › Mortee talk 20:16, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
Just to add, I opposed topic banning you from deletion and would so again, but in this case I think you've made a mistake. If an article can be easily fixed, it's not suitable for speedy deletion so it would be better to a) fix it, b) tag it, c) AfD or prod it. I hope you'll take this into consideration while you're doing the good work of looking through old articles with issues. › Mortee talk 20:23, 25 August 2018 (UTC)

Sourcing tags

Hi there. Quick question - I noticed that you've recently been tagging sources at a pretty rapid rate for having "unreliable sources". Was there a particular source or type of website you were targeting or something? It's not that I'm doubting your judgement or anything, it's just not readily available when its a blanket tag at the top of an article with lots of sources. Chmýří pampelišek has 10 sources, for example. I figured it'd be easier to ask than sift through 10 sources. Let me know. Thanks. Sergecross73 msg me 17:40, 30 August 2018 (UTC)

Facebook. » Shadowowl | talk 17:52, 30 August 2018 (UTC)
I see. But Facebook isn't inherently unreliable or unusable. Don't get me wrong, I avoid it and only use it as a last resort, but per WP:PRIMARY, it is usable for plain, objective, uncontroversial statements. I don't think it's a good idea to slap that tag on top of every article that has a Facebook source in it, especially without any explanation given as to why you did it. Sergecross73 msg me 17:58, 30 August 2018 (UTC)
Facebook is a garbage source. I'll remove the source instead of tagging it. Facebook should be used only 1 time in an article, in the External links section. » Shadowowl | talk 18:45, 30 August 2018 (UTC)
No, there's no consensus or precedent to treat Facebook like that either. Please don't do that. A better approach would be to add the [unreliable source?] or [better source needed] tag right next to Facebook sources any time you feel that its being used outside of the scope of WP:PRIMARY. Please consider doing this instead, so people better understand what improvements you're requesting be done. Thanks. Sergecross73 msg me 18:56, 30 August 2018 (UTC)
Ok, another question. Can Facebook sources be removed if there is another source supporting the statement or if the source doesn't link to a post, making it not supporting the statement? » Shadowowl | talk 09:39, 31 August 2018 (UTC)
Yes, as long as you confirm that the other, non-Facebook source present verifies the statement, or that the Facebook link doesn't given doesn't verify the statement, then you're fine in removing the Facebook source. Sergecross73 msg me 13:40, 31 August 2018 (UTC)

Linkspam?

Hi,

can you explain what;s wrong with linking the songs in a voice kids article to their youtube videos? The article has like 80 hits a day, the (official) youtube videos mostly have millions of views.

This has nothing to do with view counts. It has to do with adding a second source in case the full videos get taken down. Also it adds convenience.

Regards, Clemens — Preceding unsigned comment added by Clemens Huebner (talkcontribs) 16:54, 31 August 2018 (UTC)

Also, i am unaffiliated with the Youtube channel and the artists, so i have nothing to gain personally. Clemens Huebner (talk) 16:58, 31 August 2018 (UTC)

@Clemens Huebner: Adding such a huge amount of Youtube links is no longer sourcing things, but linkspam instead. You don't have to get paid to spam links, people like you do it for free. It already has a lot video sources, which are primary sources. We don't need more in this case. » Shadowowl | talk 17:28, 31 August 2018 (UTC)

Oh well. For the Russian Voice, the TV channel has already removed the original broadcast files, so the articles are now unsourced. I have read the citation spam definition, and your interpretation seems more to align with your feelings than the rules. Oh well. Clemens Huebner (talk) 17:35, 31 August 2018 (UTC)

Instead of using concealed personal attacks, please look at source 1,2, 3, 5, 7 and 14. Those are the sources we need, not spamming of Youtube links. And your comparison to the Russian one is absurd, as that one manages to be even worse. That is because the author of that article did not bother to add independent sources. » Shadowowl | talk 17:43, 31 August 2018 (UTC)

Blank

Hi Unless, the user is blocked, I believe even IPs can blank the page. But I am not fully sure about Policy related to IP blanking its talk page. are you sure ? --DBigXray 14:52, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

@DBigXray:He can remove his warnings, but I leave the template there to point recent changes patrollers that they have to give a higher warning level. Blanking the page every time and not having that template results (if Huggle is used, for example) in another level 1 warning, and not getting reported to AIV after multiple offenses. » Shadowowl | talk 17:44, 1 September 2018 (UTC)
it is my belief that Huggle checks out the template level from the page history and not the text of the page. because of obvious blanking reasons. but i have not confirmed it or tested this belief of mine. --DBigXray 17:49, 1 September 2018 (UTC)
So as you have seen, a user or an IP is allowed to blank the page. There are Page notice for example an IP from an education establishment is marked with a template. other than that anything else can be removed per the very definition of blanking. I agree that you have genuinely valid intentions but it will still be called editwarring. An IP has nothing to loose, you do have. --DBigXray 20:38, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

Ways to improve Marina Satti

Hi, I'm Doomsdayer520. Shadowowl, thanks for creating Marina Satti!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. Thank you for developing the new article on Marina Satti. A different editor has noted that the article could be expanded with translated sources from Russian and Greek, if you're able. I also think that the article's content can be expanded with material from international news sources that have noticed her work. Here are some possibilities: [3], [4]. Good luck.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

---DOOMSDAYER520 (Talk|Contribs) 14:09, 13 September 2018 (UTC)

Declined speedy

Hey, just a heads up, I declined your A7 speedy nom of Mohammed Barhouma. The article does make a claim to the subject's significance; therefore it's not eligible under A7. It's better suited as an AfD candidate. Cheers, cymru.lass (talkcontribs) 19:26, 14 September 2018 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Christina Silva

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Christina Silva requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. La Manga Club

Why'd you restore the CSD tags removed by Andrew Davidson?-- Dlohcierekim (talk) 15:54, 18 September 2018 (UTC)

Because I felt A7 was correct based on the article, which had no claims to be significant except an unsourced claim that it has won a prize. I added G11 just because of the one promotional sentence there was. » Shadowowl | talk 17:44, 18 September 2018 (UTC)

September 2018

Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself, as you did with Christina Silva. If you believe the page should not be deleted, you may contest the deletion by clicking on the button that says: Contest this speedy deletion, which appears inside the speedy deletion notice. This will allow you to make your case on the talk page. Administrators will consider your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you. Natureium (talk) 17:39, 18 September 2018 (UTC)

You can have it deleted. I don't give a shit anymore when an article that can be expanded (And I would expand it, in fact, I did but you removed it) gets deleted and some trash article gets kept. This is double standards, as there are a lot of unsourced stubs that don't get speedied. » Shadowowl | talk 17:43, 18 September 2018 (UTC)
If you find an unsourced stub that fits the criteria for speedy deletion, you should absolutely ask for it to be deleted. Natureium (talk) 17:52, 18 September 2018 (UTC)

Thank you for warning me of this - most of the player profile links links for Cricket Archive (which became subscription-only in May last year) have been replaced by and incorporated alongside links to the appropriate Cricinfo article for the same player - which are free to view. If you see any others which are similar to this, please let me know. Bobo. 18:37, 18 September 2018 (UTC)

CSDs

I have gone through and removed most of the CSDs you've applied recently, because they don't meet the CSD criteria. Please read WP:CCS and WP:CCSI before continuing to CSD article; and remember that CSDs should only be used for articles that meet the criteria, not merely if you think the article should be deleted. Being an unsourced stub doesn't necessarily mean an article needs to be deleted - they need to meet the criteria - (and see WP:ATD and WP:BEFORE), and articles that are over a few years old are very unlikely to meet the CSD criteria. If someone reverts a CSD you apply, you shouldn't generally revert back, because it means that deletion is not uncontroversial. Considering you've already been dragged to ANI over deletion, you should really make sure your tagging is accurate. Galobtter (pingó mió) 07:57, 19 September 2018 (UTC)

Regarding [5] - A7 is for articles that don't indicate significance. Significance is a much lower bar than notability, and being the son-in-law of a very notable person and an husband of a notable person is enough for significance. Not only that, a very obvious alternative to deletion, of redirecting the article to Léopoldine_Hugo, exists, and per policy alternatives to deletion are preferred over deletion Galobtter (pingó mió) 10:24, 19 September 2018 (UTC)
Shadowowl, Galobtter, I don't know if Charles Vacquerie is fully notable by our standards, but I'm pretty sure that that is not something to be decided without discussion. There's a poem about/to him by one of the most celebrated writers of the nineteenth century – that's a claim of significance that can be made about very few people indeed. Please take the article to AfD if you think it should be deleted (or indeed redirected). (oh, and Shadowowl, please don't edit-war over speedy tags – once is enough for those, unless it's a G12 for copyvio.) Thanks, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 12:49, 19 September 2018 (UTC)
AFD'ed. I will not edit war about CSD in the future, I will afd instead. » Shadowowl | talk 19:07, 19 September 2018 (UTC)
