WikiCup 2010 January newsletter edit

We are half way through round one of the WikiCup. We've had some shakeups regarding late entries, flag changes and early dropouts, but the competition is now established- there will be no more flag changes or new competitors. Congratulations to   Sasata (submissions), our current leader, who, at the time of writing, has more listed points than   Hunter Kahn (submissions) and   TonyTheTiger (submissions) (second and third place respectively) combined. A special well done also goes to   Fetchcomms (submissions)- his artcle Jewel Box (St. Louis, Missouri) was the first content to score points in the competition.

Around half of competitors are yet to score. Please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. 64 of the 149 current competitors will advance to round 2- if you currently have no points, do not worry, as over half of the current top 64 have under 50 points. Everyone needs to get their entries in now to guarantee their places in round 2! If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, by email or on IRC. Good luck! TV.com edit

How can you possibly say that TV.com is not a reliable source for what TV.com says? If you want to make the argument that TV.com's noting of the gag is not grounds for determining notability, then make it on the AFD, but don't delete the text. Please stop edit-warring and restore the cite, which was perfectly legitimate. THF (talk) 01:05, 1 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Reply edit

Hi, first off, cheers for the article warning advice.

As for GSP 2012 stuff, I just did a straight undo I think, so that was the reason for the readding of whatever statement you originally removed. Wasn't my intention to readd dodgy stuff; I just wanted to keep the 2012 stuff under its own heading.

If you disagree with that, as you've explained, then change it if you like. I'm not going to insist upon it; I just thought it would help. Majority decision call on this, I'd think. Perhaps a consensus on the GSP talk page? Paralympiakos (talk) 03:56, 7 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

An article you previously commented in is up for AFD again edit

Congratulations on Ice Hockey at the Olympics Main Page status edit

It's been a while for me to return to WP. I burned out a bit and just got consumed with real life, but I'm trying to slowly work my way back into editing and reviewing. I noticed that the Olympic Ice Hockey article is up for Main Page posting for the start of the Olympics on the 12th. Congratulations. I know how much work and vigilence it took to get that article to FA. Despite persistent nationalistic editing and some rancorous episodes you were able to persevere and now it will reach the top spot. Enjoy it and the accolades that come from all your hard work. H1nkles (talk) 20:03, 9 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

If it is going on the Main Page, should you request some semi-protection or something? ʘ alaney2ktalkʘ 16:30, 10 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

I agree it will go to protection. Did we ever have a 'note' under the medal table, (stating the obvious) that the medals table follows Olympic standard? Also, I think you can have a pop-up warning on an edit. I don't know how to do it, but you might want to consider it. I think Djsasso knows how to install one. ʘ alaney2k ʘ (talk) 16:39, 10 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
Main Page articles are not pre-emptively protected except in extreme cases. Anyway, congrats on making the main page! I have to say though that thanks to the time shift, I find it ironic that this article will be off the main page tomorrow before the opening ceremonies even happen! Guess we shoulda thought of that and had it posted tomorrow, lol. Resolute 00:53, 12 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Canada at the Olympics edit

Why do you insist on deleting "[Canada] has won at least one medal at every Olympics it has competed at"? It's true (even including the Olympics going on right now; they've already got one), and a perfectly fine thing to put in an intro Purplebackpack89 (Notes Taken) (Locker) 17:02, 14 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

note on medal table edit

Hi, the reason I was including that is because people have been duplicating edits, and I felt like if it were staring people in the face that someone had already edited for that event, it would cut down on the gratuitous nationalistic duplicate edits. I'm too lazy to fight about it though, so we'll leave it be. Thanks! Kingnavland (talk) 04:04, 16 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

2010 Olympics top 10 finishes summary ommision. edit

I was unaware of the decision during the previous Olympics to omit top ten summaries, fair enough. Is there any section where you think the summary could go? As I know statistics can be interpreted however the reader believes, I thought that the summary was pertinent in regards to "Own the podium". What is your opinion of it going in there? Would it have to be expanded? Is this the right talk place or should I have used the article discussion? Hockey edit

Your logic is a tad flawed for a few reasons. Of course Barack Obama is the President of the USA but many articles other than the main Obama article call him "President Obama". In fact, if "of course it's normally called hockey" then that's PROOF IT SHOULD BE IN. It's also used in the field hockey article and I've never heard a single thing on TV, radio, internet, etc call it "ice hockey". Especially when they're not playing any other kind at the WINTER Olympics. --TheTruthiness (talk) 05:46, 23 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Round one is over, and round two has begun! Congratulations to the 64 contestants who have made it through, but well done and thank you to all contestants who took part in our first round. A special well done goes to   Sasata (submissions), our round one winner (1010 points), and to   Hunter Kahn (submissions) and   TonyTheTiger (submissions), who were second and third respectively (640 points/605 points). Sasata was awarded the most points for both good articles (300 points) and featured articles (600 points), and TonyTheTiger was awarded the most for featured topics (225 points), while Hunter Kahn claimed the most for good topics (70).   Staxringold (submissions) claimed the most featured lists (240 points) and featured pictures (35 points),   Geschichte (submissions) claimed the most for Did you know? entries (490 points),   Jujutacular (submissions) claimed the most for featured sounds (70 points) and   Candlewicke (submissions) claimed the most for In the news entries (40 points). No one claimed a featured portal or valued picture.

Credits awarded after the end of round one but before round two may be claimed in round two, but remember the rule that content must have been worked on in some significant way during 2010 by you for you to claim points. The groups for round two will be placed up shortly, and the submissions' pages will be blanked. This round will continue until 28 April, when the top two users from each group, as well as 16 wildcards, will progress to round three. Please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup; thank you to all doing this last round, and particularly to those helping at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. What a shame, Al Jean's really going to hate us now edit

It's odd that while 216.205.234.2 apparently says Ortved is unreliable as a source, it actually used it as a source itself [1]. And so the other is 76.94.46.182, who apparently dislikes the fact that Jean is divorced [2]. I really hope one of them is Jean, that'd be hilarious. Perhaps it'd explain all of those 'classic' Wikipedia 'jokes' they keep putting in the 'show'. Do you think we should try and get them to talk to us? Maybe we could suggest that they actually bother writing an official Fox censored endorsed history of the show, so we can use that instead... Gran2 17:37, 4 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yep, that's a truly fantastic achievement. Much back slapping all around. Guess we need some new goals. At some point though, we may need to clean up some of the earlier season 8 and 9 GAs, they seem to have aged quite a bit. Ah well. I also think we should seriously considering merging most of the crapper episodes into the season articles and just keep a select few which have enough coverage. Even if some are recreated when the DVDs are released (although will Jean commentaries be any better than Scully's?) then fine. But, is anybody really going to have the sudden urge to do season 12? I doubt it. Gran2 19:33, 29 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

I know Wikipedia doesn't worry about spoilers, but this isn't even a spoiler yet, and the event hasn't really been made available more mass public consumption yet. It's just a case of premature reporting. I'm trying to get him to understand that, while Smackdown will probably end on Friday with Jack Swagger as the World Heavyweight Champion, there is no way of knowing that now, and what happened last night is not official until you see it on your TV screen. The 2010 WikiCup begins tomorrow! edit

Welcome to the biggest WikiCup Wikipedia has yet seen! Round one will take place over two months, and finish on February 26. There is only one pool, and the top 64 will progress. The competition will be tough, as more than half of the current competitors will not make it to round 2. Details about scoring have been finalized and are explained at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring. Please make sure you're familiar with the scoring rules, because any submissions made that violate these rules will be removed. Like always, the judges can be reached through the WikiCup talk pages, on their talk page, or over IRC with any issues concerning anything tied to the Cup. We will keep in contact with you via weekly newsletters; if you do not want to receive them, please remove yourself from the list here. Conversely, if a non-WikiCup participant wishes to receive the newsletters, they may add themselves to that list. Well, enough talk- get writing! Your submission's page is located here. Details on how to submit your content is located here, so be sure to check that out! Once content has been recognized, it can be added to your submissions page, from which our bot will update the main score table. Remember that only articles worked on and nominated during the competition are eligible for points. Have fun, and good luck! Homer Defined edit

The article Homer Defined, which you nominated as a Good Article, is undergoing review. The article does not seem to meet the requirements for a good article. One one hand I felt I couldn't condone the approach certain editors were taking to fair use images, but on the other hand I realised I couldn't fail it over this issue. That's why I put it up for a second opinion, and the matter seems to have been resolved now. At least I managed to give it a bit of a copy-edit, so my review wasn't a complete waste of time. Good luck with further articles! Lampman (talk) 23:52, 19 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Also, not sure if you noticed Felipe Menegaz's comment at Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/2010 Winter Olympics medal table/archive1. Dabomb87 (talk) 21:28, 12 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
One more thing; just a note that Resolute responded to you at Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of NHL players with 50-goal seasons/archive1. Dabomb87 (talk) 21:28, 12 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the note. So should I assume that you don't intend to add a medal map per Felipe's suggestion (just to clarify)? Dabomb87 (talk) 21:55, 12 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
One more thing: can you take a look at Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of Olympic medalists in luge/archive1? You're a pro at bringing those lists up to FL standard, so if there is anything that needs to be fixed, you'd probably recognize it. Thanks, Dabomb87 (talk) 19:13, 17 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Good luck arguing with that guy about the images. He is apparently on an anti-non-free image campaign. He also made similar arguments at my current FAC before opposing claiming the single non-free image, the book's cover, failed NFCC and therefore the FA criteria. He's done this on half a dozen other FAs so far, and no matter how you try to reason with him, he still turns around an opposes. On the good side, it seems like he is also mostly ignored by other reviewers and by the delegates because his arguments really are badly made and seem to reflect a complete misunderstanding of the entire non-free policy. 14:20, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Blood Feud (The Simpsons)‎‎ revert edit

Hi. You recently reverted my edit to the Blood Feud (The Simpsons)‎‎ article with no explanation. If you looked at my edit, you'd see that I converted a hard to read, disjointed paragraph into a number of bullet points. I see no reason why you would object to that. -Roger (talk) 04:56, 17 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Greatest 500 Albums edit

Hello. I'm Moisejp and I'm part of the WikiProject Bob Dylan. How are you doing? The WikiProject Dylan is currently working on trying to bring The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan to Feature Article status. As you may know, this album appeared on the Rolling Stone Greatest 500 Albums of All Time list. We used the Rolling Stone website to cite the album's ranking, but lo and behold, Rolling Stone appears to have recently removed the list from its archives, and it cannot be accessed with the Internet Wayback Machine either. I was thinking of citing the published book or magazine versions of the list. Some of the bibliographical information I can easily find online, but other info, such as the page number, I can't. I noticed you have done a fair amount of contributing to The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. I was wondering whether you might possibly own a book or magazine copy of the list, or know another editor who does. Then I could hopefully track down all the necessary bibliographical info. Please let me know if you know anything, thanks! Moisejp (talk) 11:24, 22 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks so much!! You've been a big help! Moisejp (talk) 21:46, 22 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

WikiCup 2010 April newsletter edit

Round two is over, and we are down to our final 32. For anyone interested in the final standings (though not arranged by group) this page has been compiled. Congratulations to   Hunter Kahn (submissions), our clear overall round winner, and to   ThinkBlue (submissions) and   Arsenikk (submissions), who were solidly second and third respectively. There were a good number of high scorers this round- competition was certainly tough! Round three begins tomorrow, but anything promoted after the end of round two is eligible for points. 16 contestants (eight pool leaders and eight wildcards) will progress to round four in two months- things are really starting to get competitive. Anything you worry may not receive the necessary attention before the end of the round (such as outstanding GA or FA nominations) is welcome at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews, and please remember to continue offering reviews yourself where possible. As always, the judges are available to contact via email, IRC or their talk pages, and general discussion about the Cup is welcome on the WikiCup talk page.

Judge iMatthew has retired from Wikipedia, and we wish him the best. The competition has been ticking over well with minimal need for judge intervention, so thank you to everyone making that possible. A special thank you goes to participants   Stone (submissions) and   White Shadows (submissions) for their help in preparing for round three. Good luck everyone! Re: Lisa edit

No problem, sometimes I miss comments that an editor made, particularly if it was only one time and they never followed up. As for Lisa, I feel like there could be more about her overall character: she's the middle child, more of her activism (she lived in a tree to prevent its destruction, that one comes to mind), she was part of MENSA.... come to think of it, a lot of that is redundant with what you have in "Personality", so that section probably doesn't need much (if any) more. I think more pressing are details on the Yeardly Smith audition (which is important to Lisa Simpson as an encyclopedia article), and the negative reception (which is how the real world looks at her). Let me know when/if you nom it again. --Hurricanehink (talk) 02:54, 9 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hey Scorpion, Radiowallah here. Sorry not to use the Sandbox for National Parks list. New to this. I'm going to construct the table with as many photos as I can find and reinsert it complete. If you still think it doesn't work, no doubt you will want to revert it. I think there's much to be gained with the photos as part of the table. Maybe it's premature for a Descriptions column. What's the point edit

... in reverting the "sortable" option from the coaches section? What harm does it do? "As far as you know" there won't be any new coaches anytime soon. How far do you know? Have you done any research? LarRan (talk) 20:03, 31 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I did do some research. I looked at the coaches of this year's final teams. Joel Quenneville and Peter Laviolette have never won Olympic gold medals. As far as I know, there aren't any Olympic Games or World Championships coming up any time soon (I could be wrong, but these things tend to be spaced out).
So considering that, I concluded that there won't be any new coach members any time soon, so there's no need to make a table of one sortable. Simple enough. -- Scorpion0422 20:08, 31 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
My reasons were (1) uniformity, (2) future use (you never know...). But whatever. LarRan (talk) 20:13, 31 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Re: Phil image edit

I'm not really sure, I did mention other, more recent images, but the implication was that this was the only useable one he had. Not that I'm complaining. I'll probably mail him again in a few months to see how the star campaign is going (apparently the Canadian Walk of Fame attempt failed, so they're trying for the Hollywood walk before they attempt it again) so I’ll ask if he has others. It's a really shame nobody close to the show is reachable though (apart from Bill of course). I've contacted Hank, Yeardley and Silverman on Twitter touting for images, but none of them responded. Gran2 20:06, 31 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

He said Phil "came in third" and thus doesn't get on this year. I've no idea if that makes sense but you're the expert on the process. I'll probably message Josh at some point... Julie Kavner is now chief image priority. Gran2 20:24, 31 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Planet Simpson list edit

I reverted your edit, as noted above the list the order isn't in order of his favorite but by air date, if he said that a particular episode was his favorite then of course that information should be added and sourced to a page but it's no reason to destroy the entire list. I copied the list order from page 70 of the book by the way in case you want to check my sourcing. I'll add the page to my watchlist and will happily discuss any changes on the talk page if you would like. Cat-five - talk 17:28, 5 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • I added the information about his favorite episode above the list, conveniently it was on the same page which made sourcing easy and I hope that it works for you in trying to get that information out while still maintaining the list. Cat-five - talk 17:40, 5 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Honourary Stars - Canada's Walk of Fame edit

Hi Scorpion. I had a question to ask you about the Canada's Walk of Fame article. I found an article on the web a couple of days ago, while checking out information on this year's honourees. It was an article about the director of the Walk of Fame surprising a radio reporter with her very own honourary star. I have not heard anything else about the previous honourees and do not know whether it should be added into either the main page or the list of all honourees as the other 6 have not. I'll leave it up to you to decide. Thanks.

I traced the guy's IP address: sure enough it is operating from 10201 Pico Boulevard. Otherwise known as the 20th Century Fox lot. So it's a Fox employee, I've got a feeling it may actually be Jean himself (or his assistant), especially when it makes edits like this [6]. But why is Jean so concerned about Ortved? Unless he can't take his deserved criticism. I mean I would understand if Brooks or Groening sued (and they probably are), so Jean must really be sticking up for his bosses... But why object to saying Meyer led the rewrite room? Crazy. Anyway, in the event that it is a Fox employee, I left a request for images, let's get some use from him. Oh, and it seems Dan Greaney doesn't mean it when he says things: [7]...
As for Emmys, at least Matthew Fox and Elizabeth Mitchell (for some reason) got nominated, both were long overdue. But Nestor should have been nominated. Anyway, I'm currently working on Oakley's page. My aim for the summer is to get all of the showrunners done. Gran2 09:23, 13 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

WikiCup 2010 June newsletter edit

We're half way through 2010, and the end of the WikiCup is in sight! Round 3 is over, and we're down to our final 16. Our pool winners were   Ian Rose (submissions) (A),   Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) (B, and the round's overall leader),   ThinkBlue (submissions) (C)   Casliber (submissions) and   TonyTheTiger (submissions) (D, joint), but, with the scores reset, everything is to play for in our last pooled round. The pools will be up before midnight tonight, and have been selected randomly by J Milburn. This will be the toughest round yet, and so, as ever, anything you worry may not receive the necessary attention before the end of the round (such as outstanding GA or FA nominations) is welcome at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews, and please remember to continue offering reviews yourself where possible. As always, the judges are available to contact via email, IRC or their talk pages, and general discussion about the Cup is welcome on the WikiCup talk page.

Though unaffiliated with the WikiCup, July sees the third Great Wikipedia Dramaout- a project with not dissimilar goals to the WikiCup. Everyone is welcome to take part and do their bit to contribute to the encyclopedia itself.

If you're interested in the scores for the last round of the Cup, please take a look at Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2010/Round 3 and Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2010/Full/Round 3. Our thanks go to   Stone (submissions) for compiling these. As was predicted, Group C ended up the "Group of Death", with 670 points required for second place, and, therefore, automatic promotion. This round will probably be even tougher- again, the top two from each of the two groups will make it through, while the twelve remaining participants will compete for four wildcard places- good luck everyone! Why revert my musical information for the Simpsons episode: "Apocalypse Cow"? edit

I only added, not deleted information regarding background music for that particular episode. Why did you revert it with no explanation? I was quite clear on the edit page what was added, and I believe it is valuable information since I find many people searching for the background music to The Simpsons (and many other television shows) episodes. I always go to Wikipedia myself first for background music information.

Was there a particular reason for the reversion?

WikiCup 2010 July newsletter edit

We are half-way through our penultimate round, and nothing is yet certain. Pool A, currently led by   Sasata (submissions) has ended up the more competitive, with three contestants (  Sasata (submissions),   Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) and   TonyTheTiger (submissions)) scoring over 500 points already. Pool B is led by   Casliber (submissions), who has also scored well over 500. The top two from each pool, as well as the next four highest scorers regardless of pool, will make it through to our final eight. As ever, anything you worry may not receive the necessary attention before the end of the round (such as outstanding GA or FA nominations) is welcome at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews, and please remember to continue offering reviews yourself where possible. As always, the judges are available to contact via email, IRC or their talk pages, and general discussion about the Cup is welcome on the WikiCup talk page.

Planning has begun for the 2011 WikiCup, with open discussions concerning scoring and flags for next year's competition. Contributions to those discussions would be appreciated, especially concerning the flags, as next year's signups cannot begin until the flag issue has been resolved. Signups will hopefully open at some point in this round, with discussion about possible changing in the scoring/process opening some time afterwards.

Earlier this round, we said goodbye to   Hunter Kahn (submissions), who has bowed out to spend more time on the book he is authoring with his wife. We wish him all the best. In other news, the start of this round also saw some WikiCup awards sent out by   Suomi Finland 2009 (submissions). We appreciate his enthusiasm, and contestants are of course welcome to award each other prizes as they see fit, but rest assured that we will be sending out "official" awards at the end of the competition. Homer and Apu edit

How is this episode not religious enough? Sure, when compared to the other Christian themed episodes in the series, I'd agree with you. But, as for Hindu themes, it's probably more HIndu-centric than "The Two Mr's Nahasapeemapetilons", currently included in the list. Apu comes to live with the Simpsons in order to work off his karmic debt for what he did to Homer. He decides to go on a pilgrimage to India to see the head of the Kwik-E-Mart coporation. Once they get there, the head of the corp. is a wise old yogi living on top of a mountain who doles out wisdom sparingly. These Hindu themes are much more pervasive and a larger part of the story that the Hindu tradition of arranged marriage is in the only other Hindu-centric episode in the list. I added it because it is on my list of religiously themed episodes that I'm using to teach a "Theology of the Simpsons" class at a Unitarian church and I was surprised to see that it was not on the list here on Wikipedia. This seemed like an omission to me for sure. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tetsuo29 (talkcontribs) 17:52, 4 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

The Simpsons WikiProject edit

Tagging You asked "Did you ever pause to think that maybe there's a reason why the 100+ Simpsons-related templates and categories were not part of WP:DOH?" The answer is no. You want me to remove the tag from them, but I don't see the point as they are only in Category:NA-importance The Simpsons articles and Category:NA-Class The Simpsons articles and only they are in Category:NA-importance The Simpsons articles and Category:NA-Class The Simpsons articles. What would be the point of removing the tag? —Justin (koavf)TCM☯ 23:57, 29 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

The purpose The purpose of tagging is to identify what belongs to which WikiProjects; these categories are automatically generated and populated. If the WikiProject doesn't want to do anything with them, they don't have to do anything with them; just leave them sitting there and they won't hurt anything. Later on, if they need to be identified, they have a tag. I'm still not seeing the harm or the problem that needs to be solved here. —Justin (koavf)TCM☯ 00:27, 30 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Article space Looking over the project and its talk page, the only indication that I see that the WikiProject exclusively focuses on the main article namespace is here and that's hardly a strong consensus to exclude the other namespaces in addition to the fact that this tag in no way harms anything and is potentially useful. I don't really care for the implication that I'm lazy, though and I think you're being uncivil. —Justin (koavf)TCM☯ 02:55, 30 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Edit count Okay, I didn't do it to up my edit count; I did it to be helpful. Why are you being so rude to me? —Justin (koavf)TCM☯ 02:59, 30 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Sorry to butt in here, but koavf is on my watchlist and I was curious! My questions are simple, "If the Simpsons-related articles should not be tagged as Simpsons project, what should they be tagged? Or should they be left to disappear into the ether because nobody actually cares? In which case why doesn't the project just ask for them to be deleted? Feel free to ignore or reply here. Cheers. We say goodbye to the six who fell at the final hurdle.   Geschichte (submissions) only just missed out on a place in the final eight.   Resolute (submissions) was not far behind.   Candlewicke (submissions) was awarded top points for in the news this round.   Gary King (submissions) contributed a variety of did you know articles.   Suomi Finland 2009 (submissions) said "I'm surprised to have survived so far into the competition", but was extactic to see Finland in the semi-finals.   Arsenikk (submissions) did not score this round, but has scored highly in previous rounds. We also say goodbye to   Ian Rose (submissions), who withdrew earlier this month after spending six weeks overseas. Anyone interested in this round's results can see them here and here. Thank you to   Stone (submissions) for these.

Signups for next year's competition are now open. Planning is ongoing, with a key discussion about judges for next year open. Discussion about how next year's scoring will work is ongoing, and thoughts are more than welcome at Wikipedia talk:WikiCup/Scoring. Also, TonyTheTiger is compiling some information and statistics on the finalists here- the final eight are encouraged to add themselves to the list.

Our final eight will play it out for two months, after which we will know 2010's WikiCup winner, and a variety of prizes will be awarded. As ever, anything you worry may not receive the necessary attention before the end of the round (such as outstanding GA or FA nominations) is welcome at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews, and please remember to continue offering reviews yourself where possible. As always, the judges are available to contact via email, IRC or their talk pages, and general discussion about the Cup is welcome on the WikiCup talk page.If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Roger Crozier Saving Grace Award edit

I have given the article a quick spruce-up and plan to take it to FLC to try and preserve the NHL Awards Featured Topic. As you are still the editor with the most edits to the article, could you confirm that you are OK with this? -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 09:50, 30 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Re: Name change edit

You promoted this featured list, so I thought you might be able to help me with a request. If my request cannot be accommodated, of if it needs to be directed elsewhere, I understand. List of awards and nominations received by Rufus Wainwright was promoted under my previous username (Whataworld06). I would love for the list to be credited to my current (and permanent) username, Another Believer. Is there any way this could be accommodated? I figured updating all occurrences of my former username might also help with bot functions like the one that updates this list. Perhaps this page could be updated or a log containing FL promotions could be updated to credit the list to my current username? --Another Believer (Talk) 20:36, 30 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Never mind. This issue has been resolved. --Another Believer (Talk) 23:33, 8 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

WikiCup 2010 September newsletter edit

We are half-way through our final round, entering the home straight.   TonyTheTiger (submissions) leads at the time of writing with 1180 points, immediately followed by   Sasata (submissions) with 1175 points.   Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) closely follows in third place with 1100 points. For those who are interested, data about the finalists has been compiled at Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2010/finalists, while a list of content submitted by all WikiCup contestants prior to this round has been compiled at Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2010/Submissions. As ever, anything contestants worry may not receive the necessary attention before the end of the round (such as outstanding GA or FA nominations) is welcome at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews, and please remember to continue offering reviews yourself where possible. As always, the judges are available to contact via email, IRC or their talk pages, and general discussion about the Cup is welcome on the WikiCup talk page.

Despite controversy, the WikiCup remains open. Signups for next year's competition are more than welcome, and suggestions for how next year's competition will work are appreciated at Wikipedia talk:WikiCup/Scoring. More general comments and discussions should be directed at the WikiCup talk page. One month remains in the 2010 WikiCup, after which we will know our champion. Good luck everyone! RfC on Featured List Criteria section 3b edit

Hello. You are receiving this message as you previously posted in the ongoing RfC on whether Featured List Criteria section 3b should be modified or eliminated. Based on feedback and commentary received during the section-by-section analysis of the current criteria, I have proposed a new version of the criteria here. I would like your input on ways to improve and refine this proposal, in hopes of reaching consensus to implement this change to the criteria. Thank you for your attention. Template:Treehouse of Horror edit

User:Scorpion0422 please join the discussion at Template talk:Treehouse of Horror , your input is appreciated.

I'm sorry that we're butting heads like this, but we both seem to think that the other is misunderstanding the purpose of a template. I was recruited IRL to fix the template in the manner I am attempting to. I am now going to recruit some editors who have previous edited the ThoH template, so they can chime in. Please, do us all a favor and stop undo-ing the relevant, useful and valid edits that are increasing to the usability of the template. There is simple, overly-simplistic, and stubbornly overly-simplistic ... guess which one you're being. Fixblor (talk) 08:35, 27 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

WikiCup 2010 October newsletter edit

The 2010 WikiCup is over! It has been a long journey, but what has been achieved is impressive: combined, participants have produced over seventy featured articles, over five hundred good articles, over fifty featured lists, over one thousand one hundred "did you know" entries, in addition to various other pieces of recognised content. A full list (which has yet to be updated to reflect the scores in the final round) can be found here. Perhaps more importantly, we have our winner! The 2010 WikiCup champion is   Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), with an unbelievable 4220 points in the final round. Second place goes to   TonyTheTiger (submissions), with 2260, and third to   Casliber (submissions), with 560. Congratulations to our other four finalists –   White Shadows (submissions),   William S. Saturn (submissions),   Staxringold (submissions) and   ThinkBlue (submissions). Also, congratulations to   Sasata (submissions), who withdrew from the competition with an impressive 2685 points earlier in this round.

Prizes will also be going to those who claimed the most points for different types of content in a single round. It was decided that the prizes would be awarded for those with the highest in a round, rather than overall, so that the finalists did not have an unfair advantage. Winning the featured article prize is   Casliber (submissions), for five featured articles in round 4. Winning the good article prize is   Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), for eighty-one good articles in round 5. Winning the featured list prize is   Staxringold (submissions), for six featured lists in round 1. Winning the picture and sound award is   Jujutacular (submissions), for four featured pictures in round 3. Winning the topic award is   Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), for forty-seven articles in various good topics in round 5. Winning the "did you know" award is   TonyTheTiger (submissions), for over one hundred did you knows is round 5. Finally, winning the in the news award is   Candlewicke (submissions), for nineteen articles in the news in round three.

The WikiCup has faced criticism in the last month – hopefully, we will take something positive from it and create a better contest for next year. Like Wikipedia itself, the Cup is a work in progress, and ideas for how it should work are more than welcome on the WikiCup talk page and on the scoring talk page. Also, people are more than welcome to sign up for next year's competition on the signup page. Well done and thank you to everyone involved – the Cup has been a pleasure to run, and we, as judges, have been proud to be a part of it. We hope that next year, however the Cup is working, and whoever is running it, it will be back, stronger and more popular than ever. Until then, goodbye and happy editing! Two bites taken from apple edit

Recently I noticed on a The Simpsons episode that some nerds were using computers with two bites taken from an apple. The only thing I could find was a Wikia entry, whatever that means, stating this was the Mapple logo. Mapple appears in the episode Mypods and Boomsticks, and while I haven't seen that one in awhile, I concluded that one would see this logo merely by watching the episode. Wikipedia apparently has nothing else about this, but it should.Vchimpanzee · talk · contributions · 18:48, 4 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

One possibility is Products produced from The Simpsons, but it doesn't include Mapple and I'm kind of reluctant to be the one to add it. I'm no expert. If Mapple was there, surely its logo would be worth mentioning as well.Vchimpanzee · talk · contributions · 19:27, 4 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for File:Laurier Golden Hawks - 2005 Vanier Cup champions.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Laurier Golden Hawks - 2005 Vanier Cup champions.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

The Simpsons characters edit

I have created because the characters were on the list of recurring characters, and as I had a very large size, I've created to put the characters there.HeinzDoofenshmirtz —Preceding undated comment added 21:05, 21 November 2010 (UTC).Reply

With everything I've worked to change the characters in place and giving space on the page of recurring characters from The Simpsons, I feel bad that I erased it all. I just try to improve the pages.HeinzDoofenshmirtz —Preceding undated comment added 21:23, 21 November 2010 (UTC).Reply

It's a shame they had to move, but that skin is so much nicer. Anyway, yeah, I've kinda been out of this ever since I got to uni, because there's literally no time to edit anything... Oh well. Grey Cup Champions edit

The information table about number of cups hosted per city is relevant and not redundant. The information is included in the table with numbers, but the list of Grey Cups is over 100 rows long. This table is a quick reference and show clearly the distribution of cup games. The scoring records are again derived from the table and are useful because they serve as a quick reference. The Win/Loss tables contain information that is contained in the table too and you don't delete that table. If you don't think the information tables are pertinent to this specific page then create a new one rather than just deleting them. The page may be called List of Grey Cup Champions, but the list itself is a list of dates, champions, losers, scores, stadiums, cities.Donutcity (talk) 10:55, 27 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Canada at the 2012 Summer Olympics edit

I do not think a redirect is necessary here, we have one compeitor by name qualified, and qualfication picks up in 2011, so the article should be left as it is. Intoronto1125 (talk) 16:33, 5 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

And that's why we should wait for FoxFlash? edit

I know that was directed at me, so I'll just say, the ONLY reason I did anything at all with List of The Simpsons episodes this morning is to revert THIS EDIT, the same edit with a different number which we truly have no confirmation for, and prevent it from happening again. At least I had a source for mine, and if left in, it would have ended the matter once and for all. Without it, well, how long have you been editing this page? I've been here long enough to know that some IP is always going to fill in empty spaces and question marks. I didn't cause the problem; I offered a solution to it. The only thing that may have been changed by my contribution is the number they're filling in. KnownAlias contact 23:46, 9 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Donnie Fatso edit

In the future please do not delete the Cultural references for this article, If you look almost 95 percent of The Simpsons episode articles include Cultural references, if you feel that it should not be included then please go to the talk page and discuss it first. If you continue to delete without giving a good and valid reason you could end up being banned from editing which is something I don't really like to see happen to Wikipedians. Photos at Lou Marsh Trophy edit

Hello. I'm not trying to be difficult - it does seem odd, however, not to have a photo of the current winner of the trophy in the article on the basis that the article is "full". It's not readily apparent that the photos in the latter section are only of those who have won the award numerous times, but I'll defer to you on that. In fact, I defer to your judgment as to where you think Votto's photo best goes - you might prefer to keep Gretzky at the top, and that might be best - I am sure Votto can be accommodate elsewhere in the article. I'll leave it in your hands.--Skeezix1000 (talk) 17:11, 21 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Then place it where you think it should go, rather than deleting it and saying the article is full. It's not surprising you face this issue all the time. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 17:41, 21 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
And please try and restrain from using snarky comments like the "Votto fan club" in your edit comments. I didn't even know who Votto was until a few days ago. You don't have a monopoly on the desire to see the best article possible. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 17:43, 21 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
