Top edit

The problem with letting WP Australia handle your article assessment instead of doing it yourself is that the importance parameter has to be considered with reference to the wider project. e.g. King expedition of 1817 is so not top-importance when considered in the wider context of Australia as a whole - its people, its history, its politics, geography, geology, flora, fauna, culture.... That's why I stubbornly continue to manage WP:BANKSIA article assessment separately. Hesperian 05:49, 3 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've been talking to Longhair about this and related stuff a bit. e.g. here. I'm pretty confident that we'll end up with a good assessment system eventually.
And you.

Happy New Year = edit

Hi there, slowly the chaos has moved away and I can spend more time on the jewelry/gems in wikipedia again. I will probably go to the Tucson show as well. Happy New Year in any case :-)

Template edit

Let me work on a template for different types of articles in the next few days: e.g. a jewelry item and a gemstone ? Would that work (to prevent double work). Will you go to Tucson ?

Not yet template.. more in my own mind. So no double work.. but good I asked ! See I am pretty new to the procedures and where to connect what. You should go to Tucson some day.. it's getting overwhelmingly big though.. I will check out the template and see what happens. I saw an admin called Femto is also pretty active.. and there's one guy active in the pearl section (need to look up name). Else we could also set up a chat one day, so we can perhaps easier coordinate. I am less familiar with all of this than you are, (and I feel I can contribute in creating proper references and check info, as well as write stubs or add paragraphs (and it's also what I like most).. but I am a horrible organizer.. so I am more than happy to tag along any structure you want to provide/create.

Let me digest what you just wrote me :-) I am not sure I got the drift of it.. Gem-fanat 20:53, 12 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

fact tags edit

Hi - I have removed a bunch of fact tags that you added to the diamond article. The article is well referenced and additional tags should be reserved for controversial issues, not material verifiable by the general references of the article. The addition of so many of the ugly tags severely disrupts the flow of the article and is simply bad form. I noted that in several instances two tags were added to the same sentence and consider that as absurd. The overuse of the tags lessens their effect where really needed. I noticed in one paragraph on hardness several tags had been added ignoring the fact that the paragraph was sourced by a Harvard reference at the end. I appreciate the work you are doing with the gemology project, but please ease off on the fact tag overkill. Vsmith 17:47, 13 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

RE:War article linking edit

No problem, you should also have a link to the article Japanese air attacks on Australia, 1942-43 it is mostly complete. Hossen27 07:48, 21 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

would you consider deleting... edit

As part of the WP:CTT project and category:UTC-5 work, would you be kind enough to request the deletion of the following page User:SauliH/templ for towns. This will help with the categorization of the cities. --CyclePat 01:02, 26 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

back from Tucson edit

Hi there.. you missed something. Tucson gem show was great ! I can pick up some wikipedia work now again (though I will also be moving house once again in the next 2 months) and can work on the pearl, gemstone, jade and diamond articles. I saw a lot of changes in de Beers and I wasn't too happy that the whole article was totally replaced by a new one.. so I think we should also discuss the approach in editing these well established articles, structure and sources, before suddenly throwing a whole new version at it, as it happened with the De Beers article. Gem-fanat 17:00, 11 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Saul,

great thanks very much. As you can I see I had a few problems getting the references right in the wikipedia but I DO like the present form much better. I have added some links already... and I enjoy doing that. Will get to do some more writing as well now and check out your links !

Re: WP:GEM talk page banner edit

Can I ask about your comment on the Template:WP Gemology and Jewelry? ...check if this template has been placed in the right place What do you mean? SauliH 05:47, 15 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I don't recall any statements like that, so I don't know what you are referring to. I removed some blank lines from the template that caused a blank space on Talk:Turquoise. Gimmetrow 16:01, 15 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
The "check if this template..." text was in the template and existed prior to my edit. All I did was combine that line with the previous line; it has been there since you created the template. Gimmetrow 19:14, 15 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

UCFD edit

I have nominated a category you created, Category:Wikipedians who will not drink Foster's beer, for deletion. You can contribute to the discussion at Wikipedia:User categories for discussion. Thanks, VegaDark 22:10, 15 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

WP:GEM and "Nested" edit

Hi, Sauli! I'd be glad to! Do you want the assessment rating to show on the one-line summary? And what about the sub-projects - like Jewelry, Business, People, etc? -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 16:00, 7 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've added the code. You can use it on any page with multiple templates, but if the other templates haven't implemented the code, they won't show their single-line summary. The code should look like this on the talk page:
{{WikiProjectBannerShell |1=
{{WP Gemology and Jewelry | class=B | lapidary=yes | nested=yes }}
{{OtherWikiProject | class=B | nested=yes}}
}}
The two things that always catch me are the "|1=" and making sure each project template has "|nested=yes".
Enjoy! :) -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 18:06, 7 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Padparadsha sapphire article edit

I've looked at this one a couple times, thinking about tidying it up, but have finally concluded that it should really be a section in the sapphire article instead of on its own. Seems like the recent buzz about this variety has more to do with new treatments than its traditional rarity. What do you think, expand or merge? Thanks Olneya 03:29, 19 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
