Re:Communication edit

You need not memorize the policies! :) Just go through them and try to understand them. And try to think of situations where they would be applicable. This is where article writing would help a great deal. But I for one would advise you to use Wikipedia as a hobby, no more; don't stay up all night to revert vandalism. Think of Wikipedia as a fun place, not a job to be done. :) I think this is one reason why there is a lot of stress on Wikipedia... a lot of us become so involved that we forget it is a completely voluntary project, that every little bit helps. There is a tendency at RfA to treat candidates like they are asking for something from the community, when in fact they are offering to help the community. So anyway, don't take any of the not-so-nice stuff said at your RfA to heart; Wikipedia is not that important in the greater scheme of things. But on the other hand, Wikipedia can teach you a lot about dealing with different types of people and taking criticism even if unfair or impolitely worded, which will help you in real life too. And like in real life, there are people to help you here too. :) - TwoOars (Rev) 19:48, 1 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re: Nyttend RfA edit

It wasn't a real oppose. ;) Surely you wouldn't think that somebody could consider them to have a low amount of mainspace edits. east.718 at 22:17, 11/1/2007

Your RfA edit

You're welcome; as long as you listen to and follow the advice from that RfA, your next one should be sucessful. Good luck. Acalamari 22:40, 1 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yasser Arafat edit

Thank you for your edits for the Yasser Arafat article. I removed two of the external links that you added because of long discussions during a peer review and in the article discussion. The Politician category you added is actually covered specifically in the Palestinian politicians category. Fatah was removed from the See also section because it is mentioned and linked in the article. Palestine was kept because it is not, however, it could be removed if it is brought up in the new FAC nomination I will bring forth.

P.S. thanks for your barnstar, glad someone appreciates! --Al Ameer son 03:20, 3 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

The article is a Featured Article Candidate. You could post to support the article's promotion if you believe it should, or oppose and then give your reasoning for your opposition. You could also leave suggestions or comments. Leave your opinions here, Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Yasser Arafat. --Al Ameer son 16:46, 4 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

My RfA - Thanks for your help edit

Thanks for taking the time to go over the RfA, and for your advice. It doesn't look like I'll be getting Adminship this time - 3:2 in favor is obviously not enough. We'll see what happens over the next few months. Michaelbusch 03:47, 3 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks again for your comments on my RfA. I've applied for an Admin coach, as you suggested. Michaelbusch 23:24, 6 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

There's no doubt it's a 3RR now. He's trashing my talk page as well. Please make sure to mention that he's messing up both of our talk pages when you do the 3RR report. Davidpdx 12:07, 3 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

I hear you are asking for help edit

I hear you are asking for help in adding content to articles to become a better all round Wikipedian. I am willing to help you with that if you wish. For example:

  • Do not write what you know, then look for a source. Instead, research what you think you know; then write what the sources say.
  • There are lists of red-links if you can't think of an article to write.
  • Agriculture is a subject we all know something about but is poorly represented here at wikipedia. there is an agriculture project just getting started an an agriculture navigation header that is being proposed to be turned into a footer that needs some copy/paste work done at a workshop subpage.
  • I know a lot about H5N1 and an issue at Flu research could use some work; you could help with reading the sources and expanding/revising a list there.
  • Adding content is better than deleting or tagging; but it is harder. People who add content are more likely to value content and thus not be so quick to delete content that should just be tagged; and more likely to fix content than to merely tag it. WAS 4.250 19:59, 3 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

No problem I like being involved in editing Palestine-related articles. Yes I know, I don't like using news sources unless we're talking about an activity. But Palestinian government subjects are not well developed or official so I guess thats all we got.

May God bless you too and keep up the great work. (I seriously mean that) --Al Ameer son 19:19, 4 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

With all due respect, NHRHS2010, accepting an RfA nomination from a user - whether he is an administrator or not makes no difference in the slightest, you RfA did not fail because SJP nominated you (SJP is a good user, by the way), it failed mainly due to maturity issues. GA's edit

I've replied on my talk page, not yours about your question, see my reasoning there. Qst 21:08, 8 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately, I'm going to go against your "request", you will have to get used to replies being left on the talk page of the person you sent the message, it is the decision of the user who's talk page it belongs to as to where to reply to comments, hence forth — I am replying here. There is no particular "trick" to bringing an article up to GA status; you just have to find a subject which you would enjoy writing about, then work on it. I, personally find it helps to base it on an article of a similar nature which is a good article of featured article, then it gives some basic guidelines of what content should be added, appropriate reference format for the article, etc. Hopefully, this will help you. Skateremorocker edit

Thank you for accepting Skateremorocker's adoption request. I wanted to advise you of a weird editing tendency he has, that maybe you can speak to him about. For all the bands he likes -- which are primarily Christian alternative/emo groups -- he is very insistent about removing the classification "Christian" from any genre descriptions for the band and/or their records, often going against consensus to do so. He is so insistent that it even resulted in a mediation request at one point.

I can't quite figure out his motives, since he claims to be Christian himself (Wouldn't you be proud that the bands you like share your religion? I would think? I dunno, I'm not at all religious myself, so I'm not going to pretend to understand the psychology of it). Anyway, it's what's gotten him into the most trouble with other editors, so that's probably the first issue to with which to work on with him. Best of luck, and thanks again for accepting his request! --Jaysweet 21:44, 8 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Blackface edit

I was not meaning to "vandalize" when I deleted the lines about Marlon Brando and James Dean under the Black Face Minstrelsy and World Popular Culture section of Blackface. If you read the article that is used as a source for that particular assertion, that James Dean and Marlon Brando "often have turned to indigenously African-American performance styles, stage presence and personas" in order to appear cool, you will see the article never implies that about Marlon Brando or James Dean. The article only mentions Brando and Dean as a comparison to Today's uncool pop stars. I suppose I should have discussed it with someone before deleting the lines, however, I just think that as the section is currently written right now, it is quite a stretch. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.107.0.7 (talk) 13:02, 13 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

My RfA edit

I'm a little distressed here. Apparently I shouldn't have been so honest in my self-analysis. Epbr seems to be opposing me based on my own rueful, "I'm still working on my tendency to be a little too snarky and blunt in my edit summaries (but it never spills into mainspace, and I try to tone it down in talk as well.)" Does this mean I should have lied and proclaimed myself flawless and without peer, if I wanted his/her approval? --Orange Mike 17:20, 13 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Given that Pride is one of my besetting sins, it just seems so unfaaaiiiiiiirrrrr! to get slapped for something done out of humility. --Orange Mike 20:54, 13 November 2007 (UTC) (feeling a trifle whiney and self-pitying)Reply
