Nope, I don't have anything like that myself. You might try asking Courtarro - I think he works for the Technique so he might have access to one. I feel that when I pick an article to record I should put on its talk page that it is in the process of editing or recording. I have seen the box that says that on some pages. How do I do this without messing up a page?

On the talk page, you can use {{User:Ckamaeleon/Spoken Wikipedia In Progress (no request)|Caninedoubletake|2006-12-09}} Where the two parameters are your username and the date you placed the notice. If you're making significant or frequent changes to the article as you edit record, you might want to also put {{inprogress}} at the top of the article page. Hope this helps! -SCEhardT 00:56, 4 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately Wikipedia does not accept content licensed as "for use on Wikipedia only" since one of our goals is to have truly free content that can be used by anyone. Since your image was licensed in this manner, it was deleted. If you took the picture yourself, you are welcome to re-upload the image and license it as {{GFDL}}, {{cc-by}}, or {{PD}}. Deletion edit

Dear sir,

Like you, I'm a university student. You deleted my upload of a front page of a college newspaper that would have been useful to wikipedia browsers.

That was unfortunate. I can demonstrate beyond all doubt that I had authorization to upload that front page because I am an editor at that paper.

Beyond that, I believe front pages of newspapers belong on Wikipedia and should be considered fair use.

But I digress.

Please get in touch with me, as I have every authorization for publishing a 17,000 circulation daily newspaper front at the University of Maryland.

I would like to see this front page I uploaded reinstated.

Thank you.

Call me anytime after 4pm, Sun-Thurs.

Kevin - The image was deleted because you uploaded it under a license that said it was only allowed to be used on Wikipedia. Unfortunately that does not fit with Wikipedia's goal of being a truly free encyclopedia where other people, companies, or organizations can freely use content from Wikipedia (with proper attribution). This leaves two options for your image:
If you truly have the right to release the copyright of the front page of your newspaper, you can upload it with a {{GFDL}} or a {{cc-by-sa}} license. However, I have serious doubts that as an editor you have the authorization to waive the school's copyrights on part of the newspaper.
The other option, which seems most reasonable to me, is to upload the file under a claim of fair use with the license {{newspapercover}}. You will also need to write a fair use rationale.
I hope this clarifies things; if you have any other questions please let me know! -SCEhardT 19:16, 11 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think that it's clear that this account has been created purely for childish vandalism. I'd decided that the next block should be indefinite; I see that you've imposed a temporary block — would you object if I made it indefinite? --Mel Etitis (Talk) 22:17, 12 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I wouldn't have any problem with the general idea of banning this user, but the technical reason I choose a block rather than a ban is that IP edits and account creation are blocked now. I think that with an indefblock there is nothing done to the IP or maybe only for 24 hours? -SCEhardT 00:19, 13 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I suppose so; I didn't look to see how long you'd made the block, to be honest, which I should have done. Still, forty-eight hours isn't very long. I've no doubt that he'll start again when the block expires, though, and I think that then an indefinite block will be in order. If he opens another account, we can deal with that (he's not exactly a criminal genius...). --Mel Etitis (Talk) 09:26, 13 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I just read Wikipedia:Autoblock and I was somewhat mistaken in how it works. I have no problem with an indef block for this user now or upon further vandalism. -SCEhardT 03:35, 14 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the reply; I'll keep an eye on him. Next vandalism... --Mel Etitis (Talk) 22:08, 14 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

DNA Spoken Article edit

Thank you for your comments on the spoken article I completed for DNA. I have now completed the audio information for the DNA.ogg file. I would appreciate it if you could take the time and listen to the spoken article and give me your comments, as it was quite a painstaking process to complete it and I would like it to be as accurate as possible. Possibly unfree Image edit

Hi ! I am writing about the five following pictures which pose some copyright status troubles :

Plaza de Armas de Cuzco (pixinn.net).jpg
Sacsayhuaman (pixinn.net).jpg
Iles Flottantes Titicaca (pixinn.net).jpg
San Francisco de Lima (pixinn.net).jpg
Alpacas Sillustani (pixinn.net).jpg

I am the author of all these photos. If you go to my webpage at "http://voyages.pixinn.net/perou" you can read that all my pictures from South America are released under a Creative Commons CC-BY-ND 2.0 (see : "http://voyages.pixinn.net/perou/licence.htm"). As I know that this particular CC license is not compatible with Wikipedia, I reposted of these photos on Wikipedia using a CC-BY-SA 2.5 license. In order to verify my identity and that I am the author of these pictures, you can see that the pictures on Wikipedia are of higher resolution. So they were not copied from the website. Therefore I think the five pictures don't pose any problem regarding their copyright status. If I am wrong, please let me know : I wouldn't like to see them deleted. Best, -XtoFT - "Christophe Meneboeuf"

Thanks for getting back to me about this! I've removed the PUI listings. To prevent future confusion, please add the following (or something similar) to each image:
This image was uploaded by its creator, Christophe Meneboeuf. ~~~~
Also, your website name will need to be removed from the images (see {{watermark}}). To replace an image, just upload the new image with the old filename and it will overwrite the old one. One final note - since usernames are case sensitive, there is a slight mistake in your signature since it points to User:xtof rather than User:XtoF. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! -SCEhardT 00:30, 20 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Audio problem edit

I've recorded two audio pronunciations. One I did in the standard Windows sound recorder before converting it to .ogg with an online utility. The other was recorded and exported from Audacity. Do you have any idea why my VLC Media Player refuses to play the Audacity-created file? Did I do something wrong when I exported it? - Mgm|(talk) 09:36, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure - I'd never used VLC to play ogg files but I just checked and mine does work. Are you able to play the troublesome file on other media players (Windows Media Player, for example)? -SCEhardT 14:05, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've installed VLC because Windows Media Player didn't play any .ogg files. When you say "I just checked and mine does work" do you mean that your media player plays my pronunciation files? Or that your VLC copy plays oggs? I've had some people record articles and those play fine. It almost seems a size-related problem. How do you set up your program to record files? Do you use Audacity yourself? - Mgm|(talk) 17:05, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ah, no I didn't check any of your files because for the past 36 hours or so I haven't been able to see any images (or other uploaded files) from the Wikimedia projects. My VLC copy does play oggs, as well as my copy of Windows Media player since I downloaded the codec. I've only made one recording for Wikipedia, and I did use audacity for that. A question completely unrelated to Critical Mass edit

What does the "no original research" policy mean, exactly? I am a published author on certain subjects. Is it fair game to cite my own published works on, say, Tibet? Should I cite directly the works that I have cited in my publications? (They are many: One of my published works has 532 footnotes, many with multiple citations, in 148 pages.)

And what about, say, constitutional law? Am I free to quote Supreme Court cases directly? Or do I have to find some secondary source that makes the same point that I wish to make?

Andrew Dulaney 01:02, 6 April 2007 (UTC) Andrew Dulaney (whew! I remembered this time).Reply

I don't know all the policy in this area. Rather than speculating, I will direct you to Wikipedia:No original research, which has a section specifically about citing yourself. If reading that page still leaves you with questions, try asking at Wikipedia talk:No original research or Wikipedia:Village pump (policy). -SCEhardT 05:01, 6 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Critical Mass edit

Well, the central point of my comments about Wikipedia’s article on Critical Mass is the non-neutrality of its description of Critical Mass’s disruption of PEDESTRIAN traffic. I thought that I had made that entirely pellucid, but evidently not.

Any point you were trying to make was overshadowed by your attacks on Critical Mass in general and the other editors of the article. Your point will be more effectively made if you can remain objective.

The article says that “Critical Mass … is largely understood to be an effort to promote alternative (non-motorized) modes of transportation and to raise awareness about the safety issues that face commuters using non-motorized forms of transportation when sharing the streets with motor vehicles.” If “non-motorized forms of transportation” is intended to include walking, that is far from clear.

This is the type of stuff that needs to be removed from the article. "Largely understood," without a citation, is meaningless.

The article says that “[g]enerally, the purposes of the event as indicated by the actions of the riders are meant to oppose the domination of the automobile over our urban culture, or to create something different.” Shouldn’t at least some mention of impeding PEDESTRIAN traffic be made as a way of making that statement more neutral? After all, how does impeding PEDESTRIAN traffic in any meaningful way “oppose the domination of the automobile”?

The article says that “Critical Mass rides typically accommodate and yield to emergency vehicles and often even pedestrian cross traffic ….” That statement is accompanied by no citation to anything. It appears to be based on the author’s (your?) personal observations. So how are my personal observations to the contrary -- based on how Critical Mass has behaved over the years in San Francisco, which is, after all, where the whole thing got started -- any less legitimate?

The article says that “[ I]t has been pointed out that the current prevalent traffic signals have been designed to facilitate groups of motorized vehicular traffic ….” Last time I checked, traffic signals were also designed to facilitate groups of PEDESTRIANS trying to get where they are going.

But in that context, the article says only that “the act of corking also gives the Critical Mass participants an opportunity to talk to … onlookers about what is going on, or why they are being made to wait.” Well, why? What does Critical Mass have to say about impeding PEDESTRIAN traffic other than “too bad for you”?

There are many parts of the article that need to be cleaned, sourced, or removed. Adding additional poor material is not an acceptable solution.

Finally, how is "sycophantic paean" any more objectionable than "propaganda piece," which has been allowed to remain unmolested?

Again, WP:NPA "in a nutshell: Comment on content, not on the contributor."

Andrew Dulaney 01:23, 6 April 2007 (UTC) Andrew Dulaney (twice in a row! I’m on a roll now!)Reply

Hopefully this answers your questions... -SCEhardT 05:17, 6 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

"There are many parts of the article that need to be cleaned, sourced, or removed. Adding additional poor material is not an acceptable solution."

OK, but neither should be leaving in place -- apparently indefinitely -- an article that reads, as another commenter put it before I ever even showed up, "like a propaganda piece". The credibility of Wikipedia's neutrality policy would be enhanced if this article were simply removed (or replaced by a bare-bones version) until it can be brought up to Wikipedia's stated standards.

Image:Four-courts-statue.jpg edit

Hi. Could you explain why PD-US would apply to this Irish image? Thanks. Cheers, -- Infrogmation 09:39, 12 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sorry - I didn't see your previous edit summary for the image. I placed the tag based on:
  • The template talk page: "Works published outside the U.S. before 1923, except possibly in the 9th Federal Court District, then before July 1, 1909."
  • Wikipedia:Public domain: In the U.S., any work published before 1 January 1923 anywhere in the world is in the public domain.
It appears to me that on {{PD-US}} we should change "This image is in the public domain in the United States. In most cases, this means that it was first published in the United States prior to 1 January 1923" to "This image is in the public domain in the United States. In most cases, this means that it was first published prior to 1 January 1923" Does that sound correct to you? -SCEhardT 15:17, 12 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your reply. I really don't know much about international copyrights; I just try to follow guidelines I can find as best I can. If you have questions or think something should be modified, perhaps the talk page of Wikipedia:Copyrights might be good places to start. On Commons the practice is generally to go with copyright law of country of origin, which is why I brought the question up; I know practices here on en:Wikipedia are sometimes different from those on Commons. Hm, I wish we knew more about the origin of that image. Cheers, -- Infrogmation 03:47, 14 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I am unable to read German, but I have had native German speakers indicate that the text clearly continues at for one or more pages. The Author should be listed as J. Lichtenstein. I have searched through Harvard's electronic records (previously) and determined that they have the actual book. Here are the Hollis Search Results. I'll need the missing pages (or photocopies of the missing pages) scanned, so I can add them to Commons. Any help you can give me would be truly wonderful. Please send comments to my Wikisource userpage Wikijeff, I'll notice it much faster! I look forward to hearing from you! Thanks. —Wikijeff 18:26, 9 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately it looks like someone will have to go in person to the Harvard to scan the microfilm. I made a loan request and got the following response:
A request you have placed:
Title: Die Liebe und die Bekehrung
Author: Lichtenstein, J
has been cancelled by the interlibrary loan staff for the following reason:
This item is non-circulating.
Oh well, it was worth a shot :-)
If you want to go to the effort of contacting them, you can find some WP contributors who attend Harvard by searching this list for 'User'. -SCEhardT 14:25, 10 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

wondering why you deleted my page and what i need to do to get it up there so it won't be deleted.-Corey 17:48, 2 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi - I deleted the article because it was clearly original research. As you said, "This phrase was invented by Corey Crawford, on August 2nd, 2007." If you get the term published in a peer reviewed journal, I will not delete it. -SCEhardT 14:13, 3 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I read that link but I guess what i'm confused about is that this is more like a phrase, similar to "drunk dialing." Did the person who started the page on "drunk dialing" have to get the phrase formally reviewed. If I put the page up as informational like the drunk dialing page, instead of claiming ownership of it, would it get deleted?-Corey 12:26, 3 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

If you can cite (provide a link or book citation) to where the term is used in a reliable publication (not a blog), the article won't be speedy deleted. I should mention however that any editor may still nominate it for deletion if they don't feel it belongs. Hope this helps! -SCEhardT 04:22, 6 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Audio files edit

I know this may come as random, but I noticed you have uploaded several Red Hot Chili Peppers' songs as OGG files. Seeing as there are no relative songs attributed to the album By the Way, I was wondering if you would, possibly, upload one or two("By the Way" and "Can't Stop" come to mind). If not, don't worry about it. Regards, NSR77 TC 15:55, 12 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wikimania bid edit

A few dedicated individuals, myself included, are putting together a bid to host Wikimania on Georgia Tech's campus. This is an incredible opportunity, so any assistance that any of you would be able to provide will be greatly appreciated. Please read m:Wikimania 2008/Official requirements for bidding cities and contribute to the ongoing bid, located at m:Wikimania 2008/Bids/Atlanta. The deadline for bids is August 30, 2007, so we need to contact and plan quickly. Thank you for your help. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 21:59, 22 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wikimania 2008/Conference of the Americas edit

Hello, As you may or may not know, Alexandria, Egypt was selected to host Wikimania 2008 [1]. So as to prevent the hard work of the many Wikimedians involved in the Atlanta bid from going to waste, we have decided to host a conference for the Americas. This is in no way an attempt to compete with Wikimania or make a statement against Wikimania.

As one of the people signed up to help with the Wikimania Atlanta bid, we hope you will join us at the Wikimedia Conference of the Americas. We will be having a meeting tonight in IRC tonight (Oct 15) at 9:30PM in #cota-atlanta on irc.freenode.org to discuss the conference. For more information about IRC see [2].

For more information about the Wikimedia Conference of the Americas see http://www.cota-atlanta.org and our wiki http://www.cota-atlanta.org/wiki.

If you do not wish to receive further notices about the COTA please remove your name from our notify list. Cspurrier 18:09, 15 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Multiple Sclerosis organizations edit

Hallo, I'm curious about your edit here: [3]: why did you delete both additions of that Spanish organisation (under Spanish and International)? Do you know something about it not being worth listing? You didn't include an edit note. PamD 17:19, 31 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I see what you mean about spam - I think the occurrence I found (well one of them, under "Spain") is the one justifiable link, the rest all being spam. I've replaced it. But I agree about all the others! PamD 18:30, 31 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Reversion of BetacommandBot notice edit

I'm just curious why you deleted BetacommandBot's notice on Talk:Nerds (candy).[4] Was there something wrong with it? -Phoenixrod 01:32, 8 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

I fixed the image's fair use rationale, so I removed the notice since it was posted by a bot and no longer relevant. I didn't use an edit summary because I assumed the bot wouldn't get offended, but I guess I should use one so other users can see what is happening. Sorry 'bout that. -SCEhardT 04:43, 8 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image:Bamschool.jpg edit

Hi - The tag on this image, {{GFDL-self-with-disclaimers}}, provides a source. -SCEhardT 04:33, 8 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've seen the tag and reviewed everything. This uploader has uploaded many images with false tags, that indicates that he is not the copyright owner of this image. Anyone can add images from online and claim they are the owner. This uploader needs to verify to us that he is "Hadi Zaheer" the person's name written under the image. Anyone can claim they are Hadi Zaheer, usually a rightful person would indicate more information example: show personal website, etc. Signs show that he is not the owner of this image, that's for sure and anyone would think this after seeing him upload so many images with false licenses.--Cabin Member 10:39, 8 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

I agree that the source is questionable in light of the other images the user uploaded. However, the tag you have added does not reflect that. Please use WP:PUI to list the image. -SCEhardT 16:32, 8 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes, it should probably be linked from the body. I looked through the body and couldn't find a link; is there one already? -SCEhardT 21:39, 9 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, but you might have missed it as it is 'fixed-gear bicycle'. Most messengers are riding fixies that wouldn't be track legal. Buffalo Bill talk to me 08:07, 10 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hammacher-Schlemmer edit

Hi there. Why was the article reduced to a very uninformative size? --SirDecius (talk) 09:41, 21 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

The previous version was largely copied from the company website, which is a violation of copyright. -SCEhardT 12:58, 21 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
I think it's possible they themselves populated some of it. I'd really like to make it a more descriptive article as the company does have quite a thick identity in American consumerism. --SirDecius (talk) 23:02, 23 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
I suppose it is possible someone from the company pasted the text there, but we'd need to know for certain that someone with the authority to do so intended to release the text under the GFDL license. There's more info on that here. I don't think a self-history is a very reliable source anyway; information from other published sources would be ideal. -SCEhardT 22:39, 24 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

how do I report User:Buffalo Bill as a vandal? Matthewbrownny (talk) 23:01, 23 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

The Air Pollution article needs permanent protection edit

SCEhardt, the Air Pollution article is badly in need of permanent protection. For example, in the period of January 7, January 8 and thus far in January 9th, every edit (about 10 of them) had to be reverted. In fact, you just reverted one yourself.

This has been going on for quite some time. Would you, as an administrator, please permanently protect the article so that only registered users may make edits? Thank you in advance and I will watch here for your response, - mbeychok (talk) 18:17, 9 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, I don't think protection is warranted at this time. Also, these two edits were kept. The vandalism is unfortunate but (in my opinion) at a manageable level. -SCEhardT 20:38, 9 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

license corrections edit

Thanks for fixing the license attributes of the spoken articles I posted. It was unclear to me what I should do, where, during the upload process. If you can do anything to improve http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Spoken_Wikipedia/Uploading_guidelines to make it more clear, I'd appreciate it.

Could you explain what was wrong with the choice I made? Is the one you changed it to the only allowable one? If so, why is a choice offered? Leotohill (talk) 17:53, 27 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi - The way the license works, as best I understand it, is this: The text of the article is licensed under the GFDL. The GFDL requires that derivative works be released under the same license. Therefore the spoken articles, which are derivative works of the written text, must be licensed under the GFDL.
When uploading a file that you created entirely on your own, you have the choice to pick from several 'free' licenses. Uploading a spoken article is a fairly unusual case, so I don't think it makes sense to change the Wikipedia upload process (or that any such effort would be accepted).
I tried to make the Spoken Wikipedia upload page clear by inserting the comment "This is the license tag. Please leave the license selector blank." However, you're far from being the only one who is still tripped up by the process. Do you have any suggestions to make it more clear? Thanks -SCEhardT 21:57, 27 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Windows file associations edit

Where can I go for help? I've followed the instructions to download and install the Windows codec on an XP PC. I can't get it to associate the .ogg filetype with the correct application. The Iliminable "program" in the Start/AllPrograms menu only has two options: uninstall and 'oggcodecs website' -- I can't find a program called DirectShow. User:N2e (talk) 21:25, 7 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi - This procedure should work to associate the files in WinXP:
  • Place a .ogg file on your desktop
  • Right-click the file and choose Open With -> Choose Program
  • Choose your desired program & make sure "Always use..." is checked
  • Press OK
Let me know if this works! -SCEhardT 22:52, 7 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks SCEhardt for the help!!! The part I am stuck on is slightly different than what your instructions cover. I know how to associate a filetype with a program inside WinXP. The trouble in this particular case is I have no idea what program to associate the .ogg file extension with. And I could not find it made clear in the "help" instructions that are given on most ogg word pronunciations in Wiktionary; for example, on the word sweet, click on 'help.' It just isn't clear what program did get (or should have been) installed after completing the WinXP process steps, so I don't know what to try to associate it with. I'll follow your reply here to keep it all in a single thread. Cheers, N2e (talk) 15:55, 8 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Ah, I see the problem :-) Direct Show is a class of media player. Once you have the codec installed, you should be able to open the ogg files in Windows Media Player (which is a Direct Show player). The ogg codec gives Windows Media Player the 'key' it needs to decode ogg files. -SCEhardT 16:24, 8 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Voila! That was, indeed, the missing ingredient for me. Once I associated the .ogg files with the Windows Media Player application, it works on every Wikitionary "audio" click I just tested. Very cool. Thanks SCEhardt!
However, if you can understand my confusion, you might want to update the instructions in the 'help' link I mentioned in the 15:55 post above. From reading the talk page there, it appears as if there have been a number of VERY FRUSTRATED Wikipedians over the past year or so with trying to get ogg files playing correctly. Cheers, N2e (talk) 17:51, 8 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Glad it is working now! I see how the instructions would be confusing, so I changed them some. Is the new version more clear? -SCEhardT 01:03, 9 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I suspect that direct reference back to the Player step will be helpful. I guess the real test is user use and feedback. Thanks again. N2e (talk) 10:18, 9 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Self-Published edit

In this case, as with many others from associated content, the source was inserted before the original source. In most cases, the statements preceding the cites are not actually from the "articles". Thanks for your concern. Stealthound (talk) 16:23, 14 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thank You edit

Thank you for the edits you made to Green Wing (series 1) article and Image: Green Wing (Series 1).ogg file, I followed the method on uploading from Wikipedia but obviously messed up somewhere (still confused as to how to do it for next time!). Anyway thanks once again. londonsista | Prod 00:54, 2 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Certainly - Glad to help! It looks like you almost did the upload perfectly, except for a quirk of how Wikipedia handles uploads. When you uploaded the file for the second time with the correct information summary, it did not replace the file information (that only works the first time). To fix it, all I did was copy your upload summary, click the 'edit' button, and replace the content of the page with what you had written. Hopefully this makes sense :-) Let me know & I'll be glad to help if you run into any snags in the future. I listened to a couple segments of your recording and it sounds good! -SCEhardT 02:11, 2 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I would like to protect it, only if I will still be able to edit it. Is that possible? Sha721 (talk) 20:26, 30 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi - There is no protection method that fully protects the page and only allows you to edit it. In the case of extensive vandalism, it would be possible to protect the page from unregistered and newly registered users, but since you're not experiencing vandalism, it isn't appropriate to protect the page right now. -SCEhardT 00:19, 1 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hammacher Schlemmer Page edit

Hi! You reverted my page becuase I did not use sources. I work for Hammacher Schlemmer. Is there any way that I can enter sources for the whole article rather than pieces? We had an intern write a document for our 160th Anniversary and she used multiple sources, including our own website and other business websites (which I have the sources for). In her writing, she did not cite within the document. But all of this content comes from our company's internal information and history, so it is factual; we didn't make it up. Please advise on what my options are.Cdahlberg (talk) 16:15, 13 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

You cleaned up kimono for me! Yay! edit

You know, I diligently tried to follow the instructions here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Spoken_Wikipedia/Uploading_guidelines and I butchered it badly it seems. Those instructions were for uploading directly to Wikipedia and not the Commons. I read that the Commons is a more versatile place to put the sound files. But there are no instructions for upload there. So I tried to figure it out with the one I did today and I got most of it to look like your cleaned up version of kimono.ogg:
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Sound_Transit.ogg
But look at Source! I can't get it to look like what you did. Would you teach me how to do it right?
Thanks
Eleaverton (talk) 06:55, 26 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi Eleaverton - We really need to make a standardized upload template that works on the Commons and here :-/ Until then, I'd just copy the source code of a format that works and change the article name, time, etc to match the new file. Let me know if you have any questions! -SCEhardT 22:32, 2 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Requesting feedback edit

Thanks for cleaning-up at Image:Bank_Myna.ogg. Could I please request some feedback? Is this recording upto WP:SPOKEN standards? I would really like some feedback on this before I dive into this kind of work.

Can we use more than one voice talent for an article? There is interest in WP:MILHIST in collaborating for long articles.

Are embellishments permitted? Sound effects such as drums, trumpets etc.

AshLin (talk) 16:28, 17 March 2009 (UTC)?Reply

Hi AshLin-- Overall the recording sounds good! The main thing I would work on are the inconsistencies in the sound; most of the audio is very clear, but in a few areas there is significant background noise.
I think embellishments would be fine, as long you create them yourself or they are of a compatible license (Public Domain or GFDL).
I think that using more than one voice, while not preferred, would be OK. Whoever compiles the various article parts would need to make sure that the volume balancing is consistent between the speakers.
I'm just one contributor; if you're still concerned about these issues, I'd suggest bringing them up at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Spoken Wikipedia. -SCEhardT 13:35, 20 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. That was useful. I'll work on the area of improvement you sugessted. Good day! AshLin (talk) 13:45, 20 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
