Mendip way

Rod, if you have a moment, will you take a look at User:Derek Andrews/mendipway and tell me if I am on the right track here. I don't want to do this for the whole route and then have objections regarding original research or insufficient citations. My argument is that it is citing the OS maps, making a written description from their visual description. I plan on walking as much of the route soon to add more photographs. Thanks for your reply Rod. The link to South West Coast Path was what I really needed. I have looked at lots of path pages and not found any with significant content, so I will use that and Leeds Country Way as good examples to follow. As for grid refs, I was only going to add those for the two ends of the trail, and I think they would be better placed in the infobox. I don't know how of the trail I will get done. That is just a tag at the bottom of the page. Click on the Enter button, it is only a new site but it is growing as more people from the village are starting to submit information and pictures for it.

I am confused. When I click on that I see this page (That is another link to it using the my sub domain instead of the main domain) I am in the process of changing the Name Server to park to domain on my web host but I didn't think that had come into effect yet. Museums in Cheshire

I've added a load (yesterday) and tried to put in either websites or contact details for them, too, to reassure people that they are real (like the "Cuckoo Clock Museum", for instance). May be there are more, or there are some which could be added but which I thought were outside the remit of the project? Alterations to The Castle School

Hi Rodw, I had to edit a page of Wikipedia for a course I am studying, and provide reasons for doing so, and proof that I had done it, plus critisism on the edit from an interested party. The Castle School - alterations

Hi Rodw, Thanks for the feedback, it was very useful to a first time editor. I didn't use the term CDT, or write about the all weather pich, they were already in place, but I understand your comments. Thanks for pointing ouy the protocols, I must admit I'm on a tight schedule, and didn't read all the help pages. I chose this page to edit because I work there and my children attended the school. Palazzo Pitti

Rod! I know I only come here to moan, one day I will come grinning like a Cheshire cat...but how can the Palazzo Pitti be a museum of only mid importance [1]. It contains some of the greatest paintings of the world, hundreds of rooms packed with artefacts and art of the greatst importance. Not to mention the gallery of modern art, where I intend to gave my ashes scattered (when no-one is looking). The collections of the Medici are there, the greatest collectors of art the world has ever known. After the Uffizi it is Florence's greatest gallery, in my view, for the less intelectual tourist it is better than the Uffizi because the items are in the habitat and setting for which they were intended. The Palazzo contains not one single ugly object. It is one of the world's premier museums. Giano (talk) 18:24, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Somerset Tower

I couldn't decide between Somerset Tower vs. Somerset Towers... but I have pushed this towering inferno? out there into wikispace. I took your suggestion and just went with the Poyntz Wright scheme, but added weasel language and put in italics all the dates and categorization from him... It may not be wiki style, but it does let people know what came from him and that they should be on their guard. Can you check to be sure I didn't italicize dates that you may have got from elsewhere? I did change the description of Langport All Saints -- it said it has an octagonal tower, but I've been there.. and as the picture shows, the tower is quite square. The turret does look a bit octagonal, so I said square tower (with octagonal turret). I wonder if maybe that got confused with Somerton -- it does have a famous octagonal tower (as does N. Curry) but I didn't go into any of those in this article... which is probably too long already!

Is there a special Wiki for architecture? It would be good to have someone who actually knows something about the subject have a look...

Also ... I'm so hopeless with reference formatting.... Could you fix West Monkton and Thurlbear so the references number properly?

Help on referencing content

Thanks for the welcome - its like being a new kid at school. I am responsible for Flat Holm Island and have set the team the challenge of getting to featured article status. We have a wealth of information on every aspect of Flat Holm and the Wardens have now got a broadband link so it will help pass the lonely hours between school visits. My question is how should we reference facts which come from our own leaflets and reports etc? I've looked at the guidance and various examples but still not sure. Also any advice on the long haul to the prized star staus would be much appreciated

Page protections

It's preemptive anti-Grawp protection -- he seems to like moving featured geography articles. I'm going to put a note on my talk page saying that I'm willing to move any article I've move-protected if the move has been discussed and there is consensus for it. My feeling is that the article is likely to fail GA unless the issue about "A lot more expansion of the history section, please. It is outweighed by the organ section" is addressed. I can help with the copyediting, but I can't help with the history aspect. Somerset Towers -- Good Enough?

Hi, Rod -- all sorts of family issues have kept me out of the wikiworld of late. I put in the pevsner citations for two picture caption quotes and changed the Huish Episcopi caption, with another reference... But I'm not very good at references so we now have two additional Pevsner reference appearing at the end... and I see if I'd known how to do it, I could have piggy backed on another reference already there on the Huish Episcopi tower being on the 1972 9-p stamp... I'm hopeless. I also don't know whether the article is good enough to be nominated as a Good Article.... but feel free to run it up that flagpole and see if anyone salutes... a good yankee expression for "give it a shot" I guess... chrs et bestCelia Kozlowski (talk) 21:42, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Improving Somerset Towers Images

Hi there Rod, incase you havn't seen my reply over in the graphics labs, i have begun improving several of the images, fixing perspective, colour-correction and channels etc and will continue to work on the others. Im finding this a rather intriging project, nice to see so many different examples of architecture and im enojying working on it. Is there any specifically that you would like to be paid attention to? Hi, You've added several red links to List of places in Somerset which, as a far as I can find out, are tiny hamlets &, in one case, a single farm, which I don't think meet the notability criteria for their own articles. Illegally placing copyrighted content onto Wikipedia

On several occasions, such as this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mendip_Hills&diff=100966700&oldid=100951410 you have illegally copied copyrighted content from other sites (including my own UK caves database site) and put that content into Wikipedia. I have now removed my copyrighted content from here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caves_of_the_Mendip_Hills However, I am now wondering how many other places you have added my content to this site.

You must now go over the pages you have edited on this site, and remove any and all of the content from my site that you have copied here, and the same for any illegally copied content of other sites.

For your information, Wikipedia's license reads: "To this end, the text contained in Wikipedia is copyrighted (automatically, under the Berne Convention) by Wikipedia contributors and licensed to the public under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL)." that means you must not copy any information to this site unless it is already licensed with a compatible license. Most content, my own included, is not compatible with this license.

Further, it says: "If you contribute material to Wikipedia, you thereby license it to the public under the GFDL (with no invariant sections, front-cover texts, or back-cover texts). In order to contribute, you must be in a position to grant this license, which means that either you hold the copyright to the material, for instance because you produced it yourself, or you acquired the material from a source that allows the licensing under GFDL, for instance because the material is in the public domain or is itself published under GFDL." I am the copyright holder for the content you have been copying, and I did not under any circumstances give my permission for you to license my material in this way.

Cleeve Abbey

Thanks for your clean-up of the citations on Cleeve Abbey. I must admit I've been doing the cites the way I was taught to do them at university (which is now a very long time ago), but if the style you've used is the recommended Wiki style I'll do them that way from now on - cheers for the heads-up. So far I've mostly been doing Cistercian and Hampshire monasteries, as there are so many that need work and one has to start somewhere - but I'll happily have a look at some of the Somerset ones too. Simonsbath

Hi Rod! As Exmoor will shortly be on the main page as Today's Featured Article, I am going to do a spoken version of it. I have had a quick look through it for difficult or strange pronunciations, and the only one I'm a bit concerned about is Simonsbath. Do you happen to know if it is pronounced intuitively with a long "i", or if is pronounced "Simmons-bath"? I know there's somewhere in Britain which is called "Simon"-something but is pronounced with a short "i", but I can't remember if it's Simonsbath or somewhere else...!
