Uploading Somerset pics

Thanks for your message. Your upload of Image:BridgewaterBay.jpg and Image:Barringtonct1.jpg appear to have worked fine. You now need to go to the relevant article ie Bridgwater Bay and Barrington Court and edit the articles. You will then see the 6th button along is for adding images. Click on this and replace "Example.jpg" with the image name. You will also need to add |thumb to make the image smaller and ideally a caption as well. see Wikipedia:Picture tutorial for much more detailed info. You should be able to add yourself as a member at Wikipedia:WikiProject Somerset by going to the participants section & clicking on "edit" & then add yourself using the format the others have used. Thanks for the further pics. I think an article on Somerset towers would be a great idea - you might want to look at Buildings and architecture of Bristol for an example of an architecture article which pulls together lots of bits - if you want to do it out of the glare of other editors you could start a page in your Sandbox to practice with first?. Stained glass pics

I like the pics of stained glass windows at Drayton, Somerset. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

A start on Somerset Towers...

Hi Celia, I hope you had a good Christmas. I like the start you have made on Somerset Towers, but you need to be careful of "peacck phrases" ( eg "beautiful" "crowning glory") as these will not get through WP:NPOV. I can probably add some more pics & some info. You might want to look at Template:Convert for heights, units etc. I think a little more text in each of the "sections" would be useful explaining what makes these churches group together. Have you also thought about the church bells - most of which were made by the Bilbie family Great work so far & let me know anything I can do to help.— Rod ^talk 09:34, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Greetings from darkest Surrey...

Hiya! Just because I happen to be interested in a subject doesn't close off the possibility that I know fuck all about it... admittedly, I DO know a fair bit about Bath Abbey, and about Downside, but I have basically discovered most of it by reading up on the web for my Bath rewrite... My other big thing as far as Somerset is concerned is the Somerset & Dorset Railway (centred around the old Bath Green Park to Bournemouth West main line, inexplicably closed in the 1960s)... I am also of some use wherever I go when it comes to pipe organs - the very comprehensive sections in the Bath and Downside articles on the organs are my work. I don't know the context this was written in, but if you are looking for ways to publicise the project, blogs and other online communities may be a fruitful avenue. For example, http://my.telegraph.co.uk/. It would probably be ok to make a post about new aritcles, or GA FA status. 'Somerset' and 'wikipedia' get tagged sometimes, and comments can be left. Somerset towers

Hi Celia, The other day I picked up a copy of "Churches of Somerset" by A.K.Wickham (1965) in the library & it has a whole chapter on the towers based on Allen's classification. I was wondering if you were getting close to making your article public, or would you be willing for me to edit the article in your sandbox (something we don't normally do)? Hi good to see you editing again. I wondered what your thoughts are now about the towers article. I think it would be best to just adopt one of the schemes (possibly the first) & just say where others disagree about the classification. If you don't want to work on it further, it might just be an idea to put it out into the public domain, with a note on the talk page about problems & issues, and let others work on it as well as you? Somerset Towers Images

Hi there Celia, I have recently begun to work on a request by Rod (talk) posted on the Wikipedia Graphics lab to improve the images in the Somerset towers and List of towers in Somerset articles by corrrecting lighting, colours, angles etc. I have already started on several of the images but was wondering if there are any that you would like me to focus on as there are many?

Stanton Drew

Hi, I never thanked you for the kudos relating to my work on Stanton Prior, so thanks. On the topic of somerset articles I just wanted to say that the Stanton Drew article could be improved. The village is well known for its ancient standing stones, yet these are only briefly mentioned in the lead section. I think there could and should be a large section in this article which deals with the standing stones, I took some photos of them the other day but used a 35mm SLR so haven't had the film developed and converted to digital yet, but I will do so and add these to the article. I don't know much about the stones themselves though except that I think the site is pretty remarkable and certainly on a par with Avebury and Stone Henge. Somerset's very own ancient stonecircle. Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

N. Curry vandalism

Happy New Year to you to. I don't think North Curry gets that much vandalism. Looking at the history its only a couple of times a year - there are plenty of articles get much worse than that. You could ask an admin (which I'm not) but I don't think protection is needed (& goes against the open nature of wikipedia). As for why people vandalise that is a whole academic discussion - but I think the short answer is we don't really know/lots of different reasons/because they can :-(

I don't think an IP address can be blocked from editing an individual page but the talk page User talk:62.172.108.23 has enough to ask an admin at: Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism to take whatever action is appropriate.— Rod ^talk 12:43, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Beer & Grade I listed buildings

Hi Celia, No problem with Beer - I found a couple of refs which say it belongs in Aller, Somerset - cheers! I also wondered if you'd spotted List of Grade I listed buildings in Somerset & it's sub lists. There are loads of redlinks which are for churches where you've already done a load of the research with the work on List of towers in Somerset, if you fancied creating any of them - perhaps the ones near where you live?— Rod ^talk 18:54, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

They already link to the village from the location column & I think anything with G1 is worth its own article (others have supported this view in various discussions). If you are going to do it can you click on the red link on List of Grade I listed buildings in South Somerset so that we get consistent namings - ie in this case Church of St Andrew, Curry Rivel. This can then also be linked to from the relevant village article & Somerset Towers. You may want to look at a few similar to get an idea for categories etc & may want to use a suitable infobox see Template talk:Infobox Historic building although some use Template:Infobox church depending on the focus of the article eg architecture or services. I was the one to reorder the article. Your improvements seem ok, but I have some comments. Nevertheless I do not have time right now to follow closely the article. Treament and care should be merged. Maybe it would be a good idea to follow a similar structure to the treatment section in the Alzheimer's disease article. Somerset towers

I just stumbled across this article, and can't help thinking that they way in which it was split up was a travesty, despite the fact that it was indeed long.

The part that has been carved off and labelled as a "list" really doesn't fit the criteria of a list. However, it could be.... if it was laid out in neat little boxes with headings. An in text list of the "generations" and descriptions of them needs to be returned to the main article, with a single good example of each, where possible. Because the evolution of a classifcation system is described.

While I am not intimate with these buildings myself, I have a particular interest in architecture. Architecture of the medieval cathedrals of England is my work. I would like to restructure this article, if you don't mind, and would appreciate your input. Amandajm (talk) 11:53, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

I wasn't optimistic about this, given the rampant deletionism that seems to prevail these days. I hope you saved the wikitext of the article before it was deleted. (If you didn't, an admin can dig up the final text and send it to you.) Possibilities now, based on the tenor of the AfD discussion, are to create an article that's expressly about the event, not the person, so as not to trigger the BLP1E objection, and/or to merge some of the material into History of the Church of England. (In the main Church of England article, there's a section on finances. Did this whole scandal have an impact there? I vaguely recall that the Catholic Archdiocese of Boston had to sell off some significant property to pay the settlement in a sex-abuse case.) JamesMLane t c 20:06, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

Blazeman Foundation

The Blazeman Foundation is a non-profit organization that raises money internationally to foster awareness of and research on amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease or motor neurone disease. Branding itself as the "Multi-Sport Movement To End Lou Gehrig's Disease," the organization was founded in 2007 by friends and family of Jon Blais, a triathlon competitor who died of ALS in 2007.

In 2005, Blais was the first person with ALS to complete a triathalon. As a rebuke to those who had predicted he would only complete the Hawaiian Ironman by being rolled to the end, Blais intentionally dropped and rolled himself across the finish line, a gesture that is now repeated by "Blazeman Warriors" supporting the cause. As a popular money-raising cause and "reason to race" for professional and amateur triathletes, the organization is the subject of frequent press coverage in local news outlets around the world and in media devoted to running, swimming, bicycling, and triathlon competition.

The organization operates under the leadership of Jon Blais' parents, Bob and Mary Ann Blais, his sister, Jennifer Murphy, and friends. Supporters include leading Ironman competitors, such as Chrissie Wellington, Leanda Cave, Andy Potts, Mirinda Carfrae, Matt Reed, Bryan Rhodes, and Scott Tinley. In 2011 the racing stars were featured in a music video to raise money for the foundation.

Exemplifying the passion amateur athletes have for the cause, 18-year-old "Blaze Kid" Jennifer Hansen had raised almost $30,000 for the organization before reaching eligibility for her first Ironman event in 2011. The San Francisco athlete said the disease hit home with her in 2009 when a beloved basketball coach was diagnosed with ALS.

Research funding from the foundation has been awarded to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center ($11,300 in 2011), Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine ($300,000 committed through 2012 ), and the University of Maryland, where the organization will be supporting the university's Brain and Tissue Bank in setting up a program for ALS patients to donate their tissue postmortem for research.

Just an FYI, you are still using primary sources at Osteoarthritis. As per WP:MEDRS, secondary sources are reviews, preferably systematic reviews (and not narrative reviews that cherry-pick research). RCTs and other single-studies are primary studies and are not really suitable for making medical claims. I suggest you modify or revert your discussion of the OA-modifying drugs. If you dont replace the primary sources with secondary sources, someone will revert your changes again.Puhlaa (talk) 15:52, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process.
