Hello wanted to ask a Q about your advice on Teahouse

Hello, I posted a Q on Teahouse or whatever it's called a couple of weeks ago about a Bio I was working on for a successful but less known British comedian (Richard Morton) and it was rejected as not significant enough. I think some of the responses have been deleted subsequently as I can no longer find them. I think you advised me that there was a different way I could post the article as I have a different status that would allow me to actually post it and then just have it approved. But I can't remember what you said. I remember saying I would think about it as I don't generally find the Wiki process very user friendly. Is there any chance you can remind what your suggestion was? Many thanks. S. MsContent (talk) 09:41, 31 October 2023 (UTC)

Hi @MsContent! Teahouse questions are routinely archived (as otherwise the page would be far too long). Here's the thread in the archive. To repeat what I said:
I have a possible solution for you: you are now an autoconfirmed user which means you can bypass the Articles for Creation process and create new articles directly in the mainspace. If you feel that your hard copy sources do show that Richard passes WP:NPEOPLE or WP:NENTERTAINER, then I would encourage you to be bold and create the article directly by going to Special:EditPage/Richard_Morton_(musician) and copying across your draft content. You could then add wikilinks to any existing articles that mention Richard.
The new article will be placed into the new pages patrol queue, where a separate set of reviewers check to see if it passes the core guidelines.
Wikipedia is not particularly user friendly to new editors. We've had two decades worth of policies and guidelines that are fairly opaque to outsiders! If you're still struggling with creating it in mainspace, or don't want to deal with any sort of subsequent discussion that may arise, then I'd be willing to create the article. Just let me know.
Qcne (talk) 09:48, 31 October 2023 (UTC)
Ahh amazing. Thank you so much.
Your response wasn't showing up in my notifications or as far as I could see in your history, although as I mentioned I find Wikipedia quite hard to navigate, so possibly I was looking in the wrong place.
Cheers for the offer. I'll have a think about it and be in touch.
Thanks again. MsContent (talk) 23:09, 31 October 2023 (UTC)
No probs. My Talk Page is also regularly archived so feel free to create a new topic here if we loose this thread :) Qcne (talk) 09:08, 1 November 2023 (UTC)

November Articles for creation backlog drive

Hello Qcne:

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 2 months outstanding reviews from the current 4+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 November 2023 through 30 November 2023.

You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.

Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.

There is a backlog of over 2500 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:24, 31 October 2023 (UTC)

Hi User:Qcne, thank you for the review and comments on Draft: Penang House of Music> I have made the suggested changes. Would you mind looking at it again? RC312 (talk) 13:27, 3 November 2023 (UTC)

Approved. I did some copyediting to tighten up the language, and formatted your sources correctly. Please could you add some WP:CATEGORIES? Qcne (talk) 13:39, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
Done. Thank you! RC312 (talk) 14:43, 3 November 2023 (UTC)

Sir, can you review my page@Qcne Sitaram78 (talk) 07:41, 30 October 2023 (UTC)

Hello @Sitaram78. The sources do not prove that GAME passes our strict WP:NORG criteria. Qcne (talk) 08:02, 30 October 2023 (UTC)

Cornell Media Guild, Inc.

Hey Qcne,

Thank you so much for the valuable feedback on my Cornell Media Guild, Inc. draft! Per your advice, I just went back and researched up a ton more secondary sources and incorporated them throughout the article. Please let me know if it looks better to you! Dannycool3000 (talk) 13:35, 4 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi user:Qcne,
I appreciate the feedback and you taking the time to review and help me out with this article. Please, if you have the time, read the whole article, as I have explained that the corporation is fully separate from the University and does not receive any funding from it in the first paragraph and have provided a link to a source there. I have also already cited multiple local news organizations including the Cornell Daily Sun, Ithaca Times, and Cornell Chronicle (that are not run by the University) as you are suggesting, throughout the article. I spent several hours on this and was sure to follow all credibility requirements upon my second draft. The organizational chart at the bottom is not from a website, but actually made from scratch by me. Thank you again and I look forward to your response! Dannycool3000 (talk) 18:49, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
Hi @Dannycool3000. Glad that got accepted by a fellow reviewer. I would recommend following the advice of Theroadislong regarding the org chart. Qcne (talk) 09:48, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

Gigi Tevsadze

thank you for reviewing this. -- I have added a few more links. Gigi has dozens of publications, I have linked a few in. It would be great if this can be considered. Somehow I got my comment oin the draft page screwed up, so reposting this way. Hundnase (talk)

DRAFT: Badr Al Samaa Group of Hospitals.

Hey, I had submitted a draft of this hospital but it has been rejected. Would you mind explaining a bit about why is the article not aprooved? Where does it lack? MartinaB21 (talk) 16:22, 25 October 2023 (UTC)

Hi @MartinaB21. Your draft was only declined, not rejected.
The test for articles about organisations, is if it passes the criteria set out at WP:NORG.
Your draft only had two sources: one was primary, and the second only mentioned the hospital in passing. We needed significant coverage of the organisation in multiple, independent, reliable, secondary sources.
Let me know if you have any questions, Qcne (talk) 16:24, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
Thankyou @Qcne but we have primary and secondary.. Why wouldn't the secondary be independent and reliable too? could you explain it some more, since the secondary source that was referred was a news article with talks independently about the hospital, and as a news page, shouldn't that be reliable as well?
Also, Sultan Qaboos Hospital Salalah This article with two references did get through...so could you explain the difference between the two? 103.221.210.108 (talk) 14:00, 26 October 2023 (UTC)
Hi again @MartinaB21.
Your secondary source is reliable, sure, but it doesn't provide significant coverage of the hospital. It's really about Abdul Latheef, not the hospital. We need significant coverage in multiple (usually three) independent sources that discuss the hospital.
The Sultan Qaboos Hospital Salalah is a really bad example of an article! It has had a maintenance tag since 2008 asking for more sources. Back in the 2000s Wikipedia had more lax guidelines, so that article, which was created very early in the project's history, would never be accepted these days. Qcne (talk) 15:46, 26 October 2023 (UTC)
Hi @Qcne Thankyou for everything.
I republished the article but it is yet again declined. I added new sources, independent ones, with accurate coverage...But why is it still declined?
This is a sincere request of mine to you to please check my article once again and tell me exactly what more do I need to do. MartinaB21 (talk) 10:58, 6 November 2023 (UTC)

Draft Improvement

Dear Sir or Madam,

Thank you for kindly including the tutorial on citations to my previous draft on violinist Belle Ting!

I have improved my citations according to your tutorial, resubmitted the draft, and would be glad for you to please review it once more, if necessary also to point out places I can improve on.

Appreciate your help! 863hsuan (talk) 05:45, 6 November 2023 (UTC)

Thank you @863hsuan. I have some issues with the first paragraph which is overly promotional as it's just a quote that describes her as wonderful and amazing- this isn't very encyclopaedic. If you can tighten up the language and then re-submit it'll get looked at by a reviewer. Qcne (talk) 17:53, 6 November 2023 (UTC)

Your review

I added the Springdale High School page to the Allegheny Valley School District page like you suggested, could you check to see if I did it well? Thank you. Cv822 (talk) 16:05, 6 November 2023 (UTC)

Well done on improving the existing article! I would personally make the following changes:
- Remove the second infobox about the school as articles should only have one infobox.
- I'd probably make the Springdale section into a lower section in the hierarchy so it comes under the existing Schools section.
- You can condense down some of the content, like the entire paragraph "The school has a diverse student..." could be removed, as every single school has a diverse student body and extracurric activities, so it's nothing special. I'd be tempted to remove about half the content and just stick to the facts. Qcne (talk) 17:51, 6 November 2023 (UTC)

About the Meiura article

I did not write the stub and instead put some edits to the grammar, but at the end of the given article it says that the common ancestors of Anomura and Brachyura weren’t Carcinized, so meiura weren’t directly mentioned but since meiura are the common ancestor of Brachyura and Anomura I don’t quite see the issue with allat. VeryCoolPerson2 (talk) 10:05, 9 November 2023 (UTC)

I think I understand, @VeryCoolPerson2, but we would need a source that directly mentions Meuira as a topic. Qcne (talk) 14:43, 9 November 2023 (UTC)
Ah ok I see, thanks for answering VeryCoolPerson2 (talk) 10:59, 10 November 2023 (UTC)

Patrick Clair bio secondary sources

Hi Qcne,

Thank you so much for your help on this.

You left some comments on the page I wrote about Patrick Clair. I’ve made some revisions.

Sorry about including all the interview links, I’m quite new to this, and I tried to seek interviews as I figured they were primary sources. Now I get that was the wrong way to go about it. They mentioned Patrick a lot in my classes at college, so I’ve tried to cite some of those textbooks and put in some other book links I found.

Also, links to Trendhunter to support the viral notoriety claim for the Stuxnet video - and some more industry sources. I took out the whole chapter on Antibody - we know it in the industry but I’m not sure it’s relevant to the wider public. There’s also a Vice article about the “lights off” video. I focused on specific coverage from School of Motion that I used to use to follow significant work in the field.

Also found some good comments from Lisa Joy - showrunner of Westworld.

Let me know if this is good or if I should add some more in - thanks so much for your help, it’s been really nice to have a project to work. I’m already planning who from the industry I’m going to do next!

Thank you!

Andrija.

Etienne Zack Article

hello there and thank you for taking the time.

so some of just the collections i linked should do the trick, but the first one, National gallery of Canada, the Vancouver art gallery (artist named in text in relation to new acquisitions), and The montreal Museum of Contemporary art (https://macm.org/en/news/collectors-symposium-selected-janet-werner/) could do i think. Eric Carlos Bertrand (talk) 18:24, 4 November 2023 (UTC)

Thanks @Eric Carlos Bertrand. I also added another long comment to your user talk page, under my original decline notice. Sorry we're going back and forth to different places, I don't mind where you reply to this message.
My problem with those sources is that they don't seem to be WP:INDEPENDENT of Etienne. Because they are all about new acquisitions of his work, so don't provide independent analysis/discussion/coverage. Could there be some published sources (offline or in French too) which offer that independent analysis/discussion/coverage we are after? Maybe artist journals, gallery or exhibition reviews? Qcne (talk) 18:27, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
I have a hard time understanding what you mean by independent: therse are the institutions web sites, and these are major Canadian museums! you mean an article from a major newspaper, for example should conmfirm these major acquisitions? Eric Carlos Bertrand (talk) 18:32, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
They are not independent because they are acquiring the pieces by Etienne. They therefore have a conflict of interest as they are writing about / announcing about something that is directly in their interest. I have no issue about their reliability, as they are as you say major Canadian museums. But think of them as "customers" of Etienne, or perhaps Etienne is a "customer" of the museum- so they are intrinsically linked in a way which is not independent.
An independent source would be a third party discussing the acquisitions, or reviewing the exhibitions.
Does that make sense? Qcne (talk) 18:35, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
gotcha! I don't think i'll be able to gat into this today, but I definitely got enough reliable articles from major media to justify the article. i guess well have to drastically reduce the references then!
how long can articles be in prep? Eric Carlos Bertrand (talk) 18:43, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
If you don't make any edits to the draft, it will be automatically deleted in five months. So plenty of time! This page is archived periodically (see the archive box at the top), so you may loose this thread, but feel free to make a new topic if it's vanished.
I'd also recommend having a read of the other issues I found on your User Talk Page. Any questions just let me know. Qcne (talk) 18:46, 4 November 2023 (UTC)

do they work Eric Carlos Bertrand (talk) 20:36, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
Hi @Eric Carlos Bertrand. I think those will work.
Work on Draft:Etienne_Zack_(painter) and there's a few more changes to make:
- remove the external links from the body of the text (see WP:EXTERNAL).
- I think you can slim down the article content substantially, especially any paragraphs that have zero citations after them should either be removed or a citation found.
- we need sources for the Date of Birth, and early life.
- the tense should always be past tense throughout.
- tighten up some of the language so it is less "flowery", i.e. he merges gel transferred photography, painting, and text into a distinct visual language really says nothing at all, something more appropriate would be He has combined the mediums of photography, painting, and text. Draft: Bene Meat Technologies

Thank you very much about your opinion on article Draft: Bene Meat Technologies, I am glad about every insight about my writing. I made some changes in text and hopefully changed the tone. Reviewing the article

Hello @Qcne, could you please take another look at the draft https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Martynenko_Ivan_Ivanovych "Last time, the editing required 'reliability of sources,' please take a look to see if everything is suitable now. I have significantly shortened the article from the original version and removed some of the source links. Maybe this approach will work?" Inna Ogiievska (talk) 09:57, 21 October 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Inna Ogiievska. The only source that really discusses Martyenko is cnshb, but most of your external links do discuss him. What I'd prefer to see is inline citations that come after each material statement in the draft, with a corresponding reference (taken from your external links + the cnshb reference). See the tutorial at WP:INTREFVE.
You should end up with no external links (or only one) and lots of references, with in-line citations spread through the text. Qcne (talk) 10:47, 21 October 2023 (UTC)
Hello @Qcne! Thank you for your attention to the article I'm working on. However, completing the article has proven to be challenging. When it comes to reliable sources, I include links to existing internet resources, primarily pages of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine, its website, and others. I have removed links to Wikipedia from the article. Here is a list of links that I have. Could you please guide me on which ones are appropriate to add to the article?
Ivan Martinenko is a Ukrainian scientist who has made a significant contribution to the advancement of science in his field. I would like to create a worthy entry about him.
Thank you for your assistance.

Hi again @Inna Ogiievska. A few comments on those sources:
- the Ukrainian Wikipedia cannot be used as a source, see WP:CIRCULAR.
- the Google Drive files seem to be scans of books: please reference the original book and there's no need to link the books unless they're out of copyright.
- the Google Docs seem to be a list of things associated with Martynenko: we can't use these as references (anyone could have made these docs, we need reliable sources from where the author of the docs got that information from).
I do think this person passes our WP:NPEOPLE criteria, it's just a case now of adding in in-line citations through the text, so that each statement is backed up by a source. Please follow the referencing tutorial at WP:INTREVE. You'll end up with no External Links but a Reference section with lots of citations sprinkled through the text.
Let me know if that helps. Qcne (talk) 15:04, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
Thank you, @Qcne. It really helped. I have a clarification question: I'm inserting inline citations using the < ref>...</ref> format wherever applicable. I've removed external links, but Wikipedia automatically generated a list of links for the inline citations. Is that acceptable? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Martynenko_Ivan_Ivanovych Inna Ogiievska (talk) 17:05, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
Here's the link WP:INTREVE, for some reason, it's not active. Inna Ogiievska (talk) 17:08, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
Oops, sorry, typo. Should be WP:INTREFVE.
Using the ref code is certainly acceptable but you might find it a lot easier to use the visual editor (see WP:VISUALEDITOR) which is a word-processor like editor and means you don't have to use code: it will generate references automatically. Qcne (talk) 17:26, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
@Qcne, thank you for your help. In your opinion, do you think the article is ready to be published as it is today? Inna Ogiievska (talk) 13:26, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
Hi @Inna Ogiievska. Unfortunately not: there are still no in-line citations for the following:
- date of birth/date of death.
- place of birth/place of death.
- his family history.
- his military service.
- his awards and honours.
- his spouse.
- you've cited his child Alex with ref #1 and #2, but there's no citation for his child Oksana. There's also no proof that Alex is his child, other than sharing the same surname. We'd need explicit validation that Alex is his child.
- ref #3 should probably go at the end of the paragraph, as you are citing his education.
- ref #4 goes to the IMAPP homepage, we need a specific page which states Ivan was elected as a corresponding member.
- ref #5 has the same issue, it just goes to a homepage. We need the specific page which validates the statement provided. Qcne (talk) 13:34, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

Regarding orphan notice on the University at Albany Student Association article

Hello! I am inquiring about the orphan notice on the Student Association article. I reviewed the given instructions, but does this mean that I would edit related articles such as the University and Albany Student Press articles to mention the Student Association? I have references that would make the connections. I would appreciate guidance greatly. Calebsappy (talk) 04:04, 15 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Calebsappy. Yep, basically use WP:WIKILINKS to inter-link the association article into appropriate other articles. Just make sure the links are relevant, you don't want to spam it to unrelated articles. The orphan notice is applied to lots of articles so it's not a huge deal that the Association article has it. 187.252.199.216 (talk) 18:03, 15 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi IP editor.
I am afraid none of those sources are suitable:
  1. not independent of Jose.
  2. user generated, so not permitted.
  3. a database entry.
  4. not a permitted source.
  5. a press release, so not independent.
  6. not a permitted source.
  7. user generated, so not permitted.
  8. not a permitted source to establish notability.
Therefore Jose does not pass our strict WP:NMUSIC criteria at this time. Qcne (talk) 21:35, 15 November 2023 (UTC)

Hey Qcne, I have addressed your concerns on Draft:Lanka Bandaranayake and have resubmitted the draft, but it has been declined again for sigcov. I am sure it passes WP:BASIC and WP:DIRECTOR. Can you take a look at it? Thanks <3 Jeraxmoira (talk) 21:55, 18 November 2023 (UTC)

I think it *just* passes so am accepting. Please add some WP:CATEGORIES Qcne (talk) 12:54, 19 November 2023 (UTC)

The Signpost: 20 November 2023

I’m trying to create a page for the nVent electric like a business/company page as it’s referenced on two other pages. If I add more about the company will they get it published? Please help as it’s just like any other company page that I want the world to contribute to. Thank you ElecAp2018 (talk) 12:45, 22 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi @ElecAp2018. Organisations need to prove notability via WP:NORG criteria. You need to find the sources first then paraphrase them to build an article. Don't go about this WP:BACKWARDS, as that usually means you will fail. Qcne (talk) 12:52, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
Helpfil. A few more questions on how I do this?
Do I just share the sources? Does it require additional context?
Where do I submit the sources? ElecAp2018 (talk) 13:00, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
Hi @ElecAp2018. Sources should be referenced in the article using in-line citations. I would really recommend using the WP:VISUALEDITOR and follow the tutorial at WP:INTREFVE- this will allow you to place your cursor by a sentence you want to source, click the Citation button, and then input the reference. It will then automatically generate a reference list for you.
There's more generic information on finding the right sorts of sources at WP:RS.
Can I also check- are you employed by nVent? Qcne (talk) 13:03, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
Super helpful.
yes. ElecAp2018 (talk) 13:05, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for confirming. You need to immediately make a paid declaration and conflict of interest declaration on your User Page. This is a hard requirement, and failure to do so is a breach of our Terms and Conditions.
Instructions on this are at WP:PAID and WP:COI, let me know if you need help though. Qcne (talk) 13:08, 22 November 2023 (UTC)

Review my page

I've meticulously crafted the Wikipedia page for the Global Alliance for Mass Entrepreneurship (GAME), adhering to your guidelines. Your insights would be invaluable before submission. Please find the draft for your review Sitaram78 (talk) 20:06, 13 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Sitaram78. Check out some of the inappropriate language you have used (emphasis mine)
- platform that catalyses a mass entrepreneurship movement by uniting government, businesses, and civil society organisations.
- Its mission is to establish a supportive ecosystem that empowers entrepreneurs
- The organisation nurtures entrepreneurial mindsets, facilitates the transformation of job-seekers into entrepreneurs
- fostering a culture of
- strategically allocated resources
It's just a PR piece, it's the sort of stuff you'd find on the About Us page of a website or in an advertising brochure. It is not appropriate for Wikipedia in it's current form, and needs a complete re-write.
You should be finding reliable, independent, secondary sources first and then simply paraphrase or summarise them. That should make up the content of your draft, not this marketing-speak.
Are you an employee of GAME? Qcne (talk) 20:09, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
Hello @Qcne, per your guidance, I have completely rewritten the page. I have added reliable, independent, and secondary sources. Please review the GAME page. I am not an employee of GAME. Sitaram78 (talk) 21:33, 13 November 2023 (UTC)

A lot better, @Sitaram78. Any chance of some sources that are not from massentrepreneurship.org? Qcne (talk) 09:08, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
Hello @Qcne, I have changed to the formal with a neutral point of view and have added more sources that are independent and reliable as per your suggestion. Sitaram78 (talk) 20:00, 22 November 2023 (UTC)

About Mohamed Aarab's draft

Hello, how can I fix my article to become an acceptable topic on Wikipedia because it actually represents an artistic personality, artist, producer? Simodabir0 (talk) 15:26, 26 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Simodabir0. Are you Mohamed? There is no indication this person meets the strict WP:NMUSICIAN criteria. Qcne (talk) 15:30, 26 November 2023 (UTC)

About the draft about Baroque Amateur Choir

Hi, I don't understand what kind of references wouldn't be rejected. I'm creating a translated version of an already existing page in Ukrainian Wiki, it's about a choir, so I put links to performances and articles about the choir as references. Why did they get rejected? CryingDonkey (talk) 16:10, 27 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi @CryingDonkey.
The Ukrainian Wikipedia and the English Wikipedia are different projects with their own policies and guidelines. This Wikipedia has the strictest notability and content guidelines.
We should only have articles on topics that are meet our special definition of WP:NOTABILITY.
Unfortunately you have not proven this Choir meets that definition yet. Qcne (talk) 10:24, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
