Devin Nunes edit

Hi, Pvmoutside! Just a comment: I see that you made a bunch of edits to the article Devin Nunes, changing his congressional service to past tense. Thanks for wanting to update that, but I think it's too early. It's true he said he would take over his new CEO job as of January 1, but we should wait until he formally resigns from the House before making those changes to the article. He probably can't even formally resign right now, since the House is not in session. -- MelanieN (talk) 21:00, 1 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

He already resigned. He wrote a resignation letter "effective January 1" before the last session last met.....Pvmoutside (talk) 22:18, 1 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Oh he did? I tried looking for it on clerk.house.gov, which is where I've found the resignation letters from other members of the house, but haven't been able to find his. Emk9 (talk) 01:57, 2 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
You could ask the question at the WikiProject U.S. Congress talk page. Maybe some editors have better answers. All I've seen has him resigning at the end of the year...Pvmoutside (talk) 13:46, 2 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Taxonomic change on the Bermuda crane? edit

A paper describing fossils birds of Cuba in 2020 indicates the Cuban crane (Grus cubensis) belongs to Antigone. I think the Bermuda crane (Grus latipes) known from fossil remains from Bermuda should also be transferred to Antigone because the paper describing the taxa says that the Bermuda crane's closest relative is the Sandhill crane (Antigone canadensis). It's more reasonable to say so.

Also the taxonomic updates of the fossil Pacific rails of Gallirallus and Porzana should be transferred to Hypotaenidia and Zapornia too. As the pages of the fossil Pacific doves of Gallicolumba was updated to Pampusana. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Huinculsaurus (talkcontribs) 11:02, 5 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

If the page was created it seems more reasonable to transfer the genus. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Huinculsaurus (talkcontribs) 11:07, 5 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

please post your comments to the wikiproject birds talk page. I don't know much about fossil taxa. There's probably someone in the project that does...Pvmoutside (talk) 20:26, 5 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

citations edit

when a page is changed in this way, the bare minimum is to provide a citation for it; contributions show englishing nomenclature is a singular purpose and requests to verify that seem purposefully unsatisfied in any edit summary or reference in situ. When I read articles here I expect a source for claims on nomenclature, not providing this is, in essence and mode, irritatingly egotistical. ~ cygnis insignis 16:58, 29 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Reference errors edit

Hi, could you fix the reference errors in your new Stenocercus articles (31 pages in total)? Uranoscodon superciliosus falls into the same pattern. As a reminder, there is a template for citing RDB. And as I have mentioned before, could you get into the habit of using real access dates? Micromesistius (talk) 08:50, 5 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Micromesistius That template is not easy to find, can you put up a link to it? Quetzal1964 (talk) 09:55, 5 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Category suppression needed at User:Pvmoutside/sandbox edit

Hello. Just a friendly reminder about user page categorization.

I have noticed the user page above is appearing in regular content categories. See for example Category:Sint Maarten-related lists under B.

Usually this is remedied by either placing a leading colon in front of each like this:

[[:Category:Sint Maarten-related lists]])

or by bracketing all category declarations with:

{{Draft categories|1=
...
}}

Either method will disable the category function.

See WP:DRAFTNOCAT, WP:USERNOCAT and Template:Draft categories for additional information.

Thank you! DB1729 (talk) 01:30, 11 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

  Resolved

I've disabled the categories myself.[1] Once the page is moved to mainspace, it will automatically appear in the categories, however the suppression code itself should be removed manually after the move, as it will no longer serve any purpose. Cheers! --DB1729 (talk) 16:45, 11 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Again, the user page User:Pvmoutside/sandbox is appearing in a content category. This time at Category:Lists of birds by country. Please try to remember to disable the categories in any of your drafts, userpage or sandbox creations. Thank you. DB1729 (talk) 22:02, 21 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Monospecific genera and disambiguation e.g. Winteria (fish) edit

Hi, I see you made the same mistake as I have in the past with article titles for monospecific genera. WP:MONOTYPICFAUNA states that if the genus name needs to be disambiguated then the binomial should be used as the article title. Quetzal1964 (talk) 14:39, 12 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

To my mind, it's a bit of irritating inconsistency, but it is policy... Peter coxhead (talk) 15:01, 12 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Peter coxhead: It's inconsistent with the way other monospecific genera are handled, but it is consistent with the way disambiguation is handled more generally (natural disambiguation over parenthetical disambiguation where possible). That said, there's a fair lot of articles on monotypic taxa which don't actually follow WP:MONOTYPICFAUNA in one way or another. I probably ought to get back on fixing some of those, one of these days. AddWittyNameHere 16:18, 12 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
When I first discovered this policy (by being corrected when I created a disambiguated genus name if I remember correctly), I thought it was unnecessary and unhelpful uniformity, and although I'm now used to it, I have to say that underneath I still think this. What happened to WP:IAR?! Peter coxhead (talk) 16:43, 12 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
I do see some benefits in it (won't expand too much on it here, lest I annoy Pvmoutside by using their talk page as a water cooler), but yeah, I get what you're saying. Fixing monotaxa articles at factually correct but inconsistent titles ain't exactly my top priority either. AddWittyNameHere 17:28, 12 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Taxoboxes for disambiguated taxa edit

Hi, when you create an automated taxobox that includes a disambiguated taxon, as at Hintonia candens, just put the name used in the title of the taxonomy template. In this case, the genus taxonomy template is at Template:Taxonomy/Hintonia (fish), so the taxobox just has |genus=Hintonia (fish). Then the taxonomy template has |link=Hintonia candens|Hintonia. It's the taxonomy template that handles the piping of the link. Peter coxhead (talk) 17:07, 14 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Taxobox parameter image_width edit

Hi, always good to see manual taxoboxes converted to automated ones. Just to note that you have been leaving in place |image_width=, which I've been removing. This parameter doesn't exist in automated taxoboxes, such as {{Automatic taxobox}} or {{Speciesbox}} (there's a parameter |image_upright= in the very rare cases that the default width needs to be changed). Peter coxhead (talk) 06:32, 10 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Fish Taxonomy edit

Hi. Please note that for Fish taxonomy the Wikipedia:WikiProject Fishes follows the 5th edition of Fishes of the World for taxa above the level of genus, so your edits to, for example Clupeidae, are not in line this agreed approach. You can certainly show newer classifications but the articles and Taxoboxes should be based on the classification as set out in 5 ed FotW. I normally show the FotW classification and fllow it with alternative classifications. The reason for this approach is to retain some stability as the taxonomy of fishes is still somewhat uncertain. I assume that the Project may need to consider a new taxonomy at some point as the 2016 publication date of 5 ed FotW recedes farther into the past but, as far as I am aware, no one has yet proposed an alternative. If I were to propose one it would be Catalog of Fishes but I don't consider myself knowledgeable enough on the pros and cons of that resource to propose it. FishBase tends to follow CofF. Quetzal1964 (talk) 16:18, 3 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thanx Quetzal.... I'll also leave fish taxonomy alone from this point forward... I was converting manual taxoboxes to automatic ones, and noticed Catalog of Fishes and Fisbase made the changes, and I thought they were the refs the fish project bases everything on, but I guess not....

FYI, the next installment from the IOC should be out soon. One of the big changes is northern goshawk is probably going to be split into American goshawk and Eurasian goshawk....Pvmoutside (talk) 18:40, 3 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Yes I saw that, American Goshawk will be an armchair tick for me. I saw one in Manitoba back in the 90s. We get Eurasian Goshawk but they are rare in my part of Scotland. Quetzal1964 (talk) 19:09, 3 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

July 2023 edit

Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! Nick Moyes (talk) 22:58, 19 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Western ground parrot redirect edit

I see that you redirected this article here, in light of recent IOC updates. Just a thought - but that was quite a big, fairly well-sourced article. There's probably a bunch of stuff in there that still applies and can be salvaged for use in the main ground parrot article. Or maybe you were already working on that? But I thought I'd mention it. Cheers. Iloveparrots (talk) 18:09, 20 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Moving pages & leaving redirects edit

Hello, Pvmoutside,

When you move a page, like Talk:Comoros blue pigeon, please leave a redirect if there is a redirect from the Article page. Otherwise, we can end up with a lot of unnecessary broken redirects. Basically, if the article page has a redirect, then there is no reason that the Talk page shouldn't either.

Also, it looks like Comoros olive pigeon is redirected to itself. Did you intend there to be a different target article? Thanks.
