FAC

Hey, thanks for reviewing my FAC for Fearless (Taylor's Version), much appreciate! Regarding your FAC, I regret that I cannot commit to a detailed review as I'm actually planning to withdraw from Wikipedia soon... so the Fearless FAC is my last grand project before I gradually "retire" so to speak. Anyway, good luck with the FAC and all the best! Ippantekina (talk) 07:31, 21 July 2023 (UTC)

No worries Ippantekina. Saddened to hear that though. You've made great and valuable of contributions to Taylor Swift's content over the years. Hope you enjoy some time off wiki for sure. Cheers! Pseud 14 (talk) 18:41, 21 July 2023 (UTC)

Future-in-the-past tense

Totally happy to put off this discussion for later, or not discuss it at all if you like. Re: Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of Best Selling Soul Singles number ones of 1972/archive1, if I write a paragraph in the format "X did something. Y did something. Y did another thing. Z did something.", then (depending on what we're talking about) many readers may assume that's all in chronological order. If I tweak the third sentence in some way so that it doesn't sound like the others, then (again, depending) it may sound like I'm sayingn that 3 things were in chronological order (X, Y and Z), but that "another thing" happened in a different timeline. One way to tweak a sentence to clue readers that it happens in the future (rather than as part of the timeline of the rest of the paragraph) is to add a "would". As you pointed out, it sounds a little off for many people in 2023, but it was commonly used for this purpose 10 or 20 years ago ... so it works for some readers and not for others. Trying to do it without "would" sometimes creates ambiguity. I try to take it case by case. Anyway, Chris was happy to change it, and I agree; the two instances of "would" didn't really help anyone here, and they weren't worth the trouble. So, carry on ... just wanted to explain why I butted in. - Dank (push to talk) 23:12, 29 July 2023 (UTC)

As my response, first off, part of my review process is that I revisit previous FLCs that are part of a related series or topic to identify similar points that have been raised or areas which I may have missed to include that have been previously covered as a matter of consistency or simply as a due diligence to ensure that I cover everything to hopefully improve a nominator's work. (See similar comments at Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of Best Selling Soul Singles number ones of 1971/archive1). Second, Chris is a seasoned and veteran editor, who's opinion I highly respect and has a wealth of experience and MOS knowledge, like most reviewers I have had the privilege of interacting, yourself included. If he felt that my suggestion was not going to work or a detriment to the article, I would think he'll provide a rationale why he intends to stand by it, which in my experience is part of the FLC or FAC review dynamics, that includes drive-by comments from other editors. If in fact, he felt strongly against it, I would not hold out my support, as both approaches are seen as acceptable. In addition, not once did I mention or imply that the stylistic practice or its usage in the article is pretentious or a one-size-fits-all. And lastly, why is this being singled out, when a similar comment has been raised without disagreement? Pseud 14 (talk) 15:46, 30 July 2023 (UTC)
Aha, I hadn't seen Hal's comment in the 1971 list, that explains it. Didn't mean to single you out, sorry. - Dank (push to talk) 16:04, 30 July 2023 (UTC)

Regine Velasquez lead

Do you think the "Asia's Songbird" nickname be moved to the first paragraph instead? Mentioning it in the last paragraph doesn't make sense. It should now look like:

Regina Encarnacion Ansong Velasquez (/rɪˈn vɛˈlæskɛz/ rij-EEN vel-ASK-ez; born April 22, 1970) is a Filipino singer and actress. Referred to as "Asia's Songbird", she is considered one of the most influential figures in Philippine popular culture and is known for her vocal range and belting technique. She had unorthodox voice training during her childhood, where she was immersed neck-deep in the sea. Velasquez rose to prominence after winning the television talent show Ang Bagong Kampeon in 1984 and the Asia Pacific Singing Contest in 1989. Under the name Chona, she signed a recording contract with OctoArts International in 1986 and released the single "Love Me Again", which was commercially unsuccessful. The following year, she adopted the stage name Regine Velasquez for her debut studio album, Regine (1987), under the guidance of Viva Records executive Vic del Rosario and producer Ronnie Henares. She explored Manila sound and kundiman genres on her second and third studio albums, Nineteen 90 (1990) and Tagala Talaga (1991).

Also, it will match consistency with other music articles, like Michael Jackson, Madonna, Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, and more recently Sarah Geronimo.

... RMXY (talk) 03:10, 29 September 2023 (UTC)

@RapMonstaXY: What doesn't make sense to me is why these monikers are given preference as opposed to the content of the lede. There is no absolute rule that music BLPs should be written in a certain manner, notwithstanding that it summarizes that article's prose. Frankly, these titles are mere embellishments and an article can exist without mentioning it. The article has gone through FAC, which is a consensus-driven process and found nothing detrimental to how the current structure is written. I suggest we stick to how it is. Station IDs on List of songs recorded by Regine Velasquez?

Hi, Pseud 14! I recently went through this list of Regine Velasquez and noticed the absence of Station IDs where Velasquez was part of, namely:

  1. "Kapuso Theme" [1]
  2. "Summer is Love" (2019) [2]
  3. "Ikaw ang Liwanag at Ligaya" (2020) [3]
  4. "Andito Tayo para sa Isa't Isa" (2021) [4]; and,
  5. "Tayo ang Ligaya ng Isa't Isa" (2022) [5]

Since you are the list's principal author, I figured reaching out to you. Do you think these songs are worthy of inclusion in the list? I also left the references above if you need them. – Abacusada (t • c) 09:36, 8 October 2023 (UTC)

Planned GA/FA promotion for Sarah Geronimo and Vic Sotto

Hello. I am planning to promote two articles (Sarah Geronimo and Vic Sotto) to good or featured articles. I am trying to rewrite both articles and make sure it follows Wikipedia's policies. I knew you were the one who helped promote Regine Velasquez, Angeline Quinto, Judy Ann Santos, and Kyla to FAs. Can you give me tips so that I can start? RMXY (talkcontribs) 08:19, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

@RapMonstaXY: I would look at WP:FACR for FA criteria and WP:GVF for a summary and comparison of the standards for good articles and featured articles. I would also advise you to avoid copying other FAs or GAs, as not all articles on singers or actors are one size fits all, which I believe you had a tendency of doing. You may want to refer to Featured Lists on filmographies for use of tables that are FA/FL standards.
Sarah Geronimo's article suffers heavily from major peacock language, as most Filipino biographies I've read. Avoid superlatives or weasel words like award-winning, acclaimed, legendary, etc. I saw edits such as "an influential figure in Philippine popular culture, she is considered by media outlets as a pop icon, and her work has been influenced by other artists", which I think was copied from the Velasquez article. While Geronimo is a popular singer no doubt, I wouldn't define her as an influential figure in pop culture. Prominent, yes, but not in the ranks of Velasquez, Cuneta, or Salonga, whose names are in text books or have been discussed in scholarly or academic writing. The article also lacks citations, or high-quality citations, which is a crucial hurdle in GAN and FAC as these are reviewed and scrutinized. Sections should also consist of paragraphs of running prose and not an entry of dates and events (refer to WP:MOS).
The same goes with Vic Sotto. I can't wrap my head around the obsession with nicknames/titles. This should be avoided. "Nicknamed Bossing" doesn't add value to the lead at all (to put it bluntly, who cares?). Avoid cluttering the infobox with unnecessary occupation (per MOS:ROLEBIO). Stick to what they are known for, an actor and television presenter. The article also lacks references at the moment, and the layout is extremely off. Like Geronimo's this should be written in paragraph/running prose.
If you do decide to overhaul these, once done, I would suggest submitting it to be peer reviewed for feedback from experienced editors, especially those that are unfamiliar with the topic. You may also want to have it copy-edited to improve flow, grammar, and style from experienced copy-editor(s). Hope that helps and good luck! Pseud 14 (talk) 02:13, 30 November 2023 (UTC)
