Sargaent Stubby

Posting to someone who hasn't edited for over a year is not going to get a response.

However, the sources used were contemporary sources and a National Geographic article which are better sources than the ones you added (I speak as someone who has owned and loved two Bostons) and we do say he might have been a Boston. Wikipedia should not take sides in a dispute or offer certainty when there is no certainty. Doug Weller talk 10:15, 26 August 2019 (UTC)

I disagree Doug. 5 sources are better than the 2 you used. New York Times, a 1921 newspaper, and a quote from author who wrote the definitive book on Stubby should be enough to say Stubby was a boster terrier. However I went ahead and found 3 more verifiable sources though for a total of 8. Profpedia (talk) 04:07, 18 September 2019 (UTC)

Also, Boston Bull Terrier is another name for Boston Terrier. But as you can see on the Wikipedia page for Boston Terrier, a Boston Bull Terrier is a Boston Terrier, not the other way around. I will link to the Boston Terrier page on the Sergeant Stubby page so users can follow it to see that Boston Terriers are also Boston Bull Terriers.

There's no certainty about Stubby's breed, though sources suggest that it's likely he was either a Boston terrier or some sort of bully breed mutt. I've tried to tweak the text to reflect that. OhNoitsJamie ^Talk 23:01, 18 September 2019 (UTC)

You still removed 6 of the sources I had put on there. Also, the author of the Sergeant Stubby book says he was a Boston Terrier, but often reported as a "American bull terrier, one of the early names for the new breed." meaning they did not have a name for Boston Terriers so they were often lumped in with American bull terrier. But she specifically states Stubby was not a "pit bull", which is what American Pit Bull Terrier are, which is why I do not think we should put Stubby was a Pit Bull when the author of the Stubby book specifically states he was not that http://www.realsgtstubby.com/ Profpedia (talk) 23:23, 18 September 2019 (UTC)

Ok, I see what you did, linking to the Bull and Terrier page. That is good, but can you make that say "Bull and Terrier mutt"? Because right now it still says American bull terrier, which today is known as American Pit Bull Terrier, which as I pointed out before, the author of the only Stubby book specifically stated that Stubby was not a pit bull of any kind http://www.realsgtstubby.com/ Profpedia (talk) 23:48, 18 September 2019 (UTC)

Not sure what you mean; it already uses the word "mutt." Feel free to tweak the wording further; given the ambiguities about bully breeds, especially as they've evolved in the last 100 years, it's going to be tricky to be precise. OhNoitsJamie ^Talk 02:19, 19 September 2019 (UTC)

You need to take this to the talk page now. Some sources say Boston, others Bull, others uncertain or unpedigreed. We can't state only one as fact. Doug Weller talk 07:47, 18 September 2019 (UTC)

I'm sorry Doug, but 8 sources say Boston to your 2 that say Bull. Unless you find 8 verified sources that say Bull Terrier it should be left what that majority of verified sources say the breed was, Boston Terrier. Ok Doug, you're an admin so I have no choice but to do what you say, but can we at least call Stubby a Boston Bull Terrier and leave the 8 sources there?
