List of Nobel laureates affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania
Dear PresN, you delisted List of Nobel laureates affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania as FL.[1] Right now List of Nobel laureates affiliated with Princeton University is being listed for delisting. The page doesn't claim that Princeton University has 74 Nobel prizes; the page simply states 74 Nobel laureates who were affiliated with Princeton University. Thus, "Nobel Prizes are not awarded to universities, but to individuals" is a completely invalid argument. Harvard University page claims that eight U.S. presidents has been affiliated with the university. We can't say that making such claims would be an arbitrary slicing of the data to give unearned prestige to the university. As long as there is a reliable source for each entries, there should not be a problem.
You also wrote that "Associated with" is suspect. IMO this website needs a general guideline for "lists of (university name) people". I have started a discussion: Wikipedia_talk:Stand-alone_lists#Lists_of_(university_name)_people. Ber31 (talk) 18:20, 2 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Ber31: So, there were two issues with the UPenn list- that it didn't meet FL standards (which was solvable, but no one worked on it), and that's enough to lose the star. The other issue is a content issue, and while I obviously think the way that list was set up was suspect ("associated with" somehow including people who went to school there briefly before going on to be professors somewhere else where they did the research they got the Nobel Prize for), in the end the FL coordinators don't try to adjudicate content disputes like that because there's simply too much to even try to. We can't be the arbitrators of all lists in all content areas on Wikipedia. While I gave my opinion on the suitability of the list, I closed the nomination as 'delist' because that's what the consensus was; if the consensus had been otherwise I would have closed it as 'kept' even if I didn't think the list itself should exist. Obviously you think they should exist, and you should try to generate a consensus around that if you don't want other editors to nominate them for delisting or AfD. Guideline and policy news
- Following consensus at the 2021 RfA review, the autopatrolled user right has been removed from the administrators user group; admins can grant themselves the autopatrolled permission if they wish to remain autopatrolled.
- Additionally, consensus for proposal 6C of the 2021 RfA review has led to the creation of an administrative action review process. The purpose of this process will be to review individual administrator actions and individual actions taken by users holding advanced permissions.

- Following the 2021 Arbitration Committee elections, the following editors have been appointed to the Arbitration Committee: Beeblebrox, Cabayi, Donald Albury, Enterprisey, Izno, Opabinia regalis, Worm That Turned, Wugapodes.

How we will see unregistered users
Hi!
You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.
When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.
Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.
If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.
We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. Congressional slaveholder mini-project
I'll likely propose a project for a project on Congressional slaveholders as something to do for Black History Month based on data recently released by The Washington Post. My early draft of the proposal is at The Signpost newsroom, Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/Next issue/Black History Month

Thank you today for Colossal Cave Adventure, introduced: "In 1975 a programmer, wanting to make something to connect with his daughters, combined his love of caving with the spoken descriptions of tabletop role-playing games, and the result was Colossal Cave Adventure, aka just Adventure. As the name and year hint at, this one-man project is one of the most influential games of all time: it invented and is the namesake for the adventure game genre (well, the name probably would have been that anyways), but also kicked off the interactive fiction genre and was a precursor to computer role-playing games, roguelikes, and MUDs (and through them MMORPGs). Except it only became all of that through a string of coincidences: that Crowther was a developer for the ARPANET so when he dumped his divorce-therapy game on his work computer programmers all over the country saw it; that one of those players wanted to expand it so he emailed Crowther at every email provider that existed to get the source code; that Woods put his code out with the game so that for the next five years as everyone and their dog made their own "Adventure" games they had the actual code to work from... FL: number of entries
If there any formal requirement of length for FLs? I had read in some archive that the unwritten rule is that lists over 10 items can be FLs. Below that could be tried at GAN. Because we have List of Roman Catholic bishops of Mostar-Duvno, a 6 item list at FLC. - @Kavyansh.Singh: Just realized I never replied to this. Yes, there's an unwritten rule about 10+ items; the way it's usually intepreted, however, is that if you have less than that, you should consider if the whole list should be merged into a parent article. There are existing FLs with less than 10 items as a result, usually where it's a whole series of lists, like UNESCO sites per country, where a given country doesn't have 10 but you wouldn't merge that one list away because of it. In this case... I kinda think that it could be merged into Roman Catholic Diocese of Mostar-Duvno, though I haven't come around to get a consensus on it (I'm stalling until Giants gets back after tax season). For Honorary citizenship of the United States, I think you're fine- I don't think, for example, that it would make sense to merge it to Citizenship of the United States. --PresN 13:40, 21 March 2022 (UTC)

WikiCup 2022 March newsletter
And so ends the first round of the WikiCup. Last year anyone who scored more than zero points moved on to Round 2, but this was not the case this year, and a score of 13 or more was required to proceed. The top scorers in Round 1 were:
Epicgenius, a finalist last year, who led the field with 1906 points, gained from 32 GAs and 19 DYKs, all on the topic of New York buildings.
AryKun, new to the contest, was second with 1588 points, having achieved 2 FAs, 11 GAs and various other submissions, mostly on the subject of birds.
Bloom6132, a WikiCup veteran, was in third place with 682 points, garnered from 51 In the news items and several DYKs.
GhostRiver was close behind with 679 points, gained from achieving 12 GAs, mostly on ice hockey players, and 35 GARs.
Kavyansh.Singh was in fifth place with 551 points, with an FA, a FL, and many reviews.
SounderBruce was next with 454 points, gained from an FA and various other submissions, mostly on United States highways.- Ktin, another WikiCup veteran, was in seventh place with 412 points, mostly gained from In the news items.
These contestants, like all the others who qualified for Round 2, now have to start scoring points again from scratch. Between them, contestants completed reviews of a large number of good articles as the contest ran concurrently with a GAN backlog drive. Well done all! To qualify for Round 3, contestants will need to finish Round 2 among the top thirty-two participants.
Remember that any content promoted after the end of Round 1 but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Anything that should have been claimed for in Round 1 is no longer eligible for points. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed.

Seeking a mentor for my first Featured Article nomination

- @HenryCrun15: Hey, I can give you some advice! Comic articles aren't something I'm too familiar with, but I have more general advice too.
- About the FAC process:
- The biggest thing to be prepared for at FAC is that no matter how good the article is, reviewers are going to find things to fix, and it can feel a little overwhelming at first. No matter how long the list is, just take a deep breath and try to fix it all in a timely manner without getting defensive- people don't like to review nominations that have a lot of un-resolved issues or combative behavior. Note that you don't have to do exactly what a reviewer asks for, you can disagree and explain why you chose to do something else, but it's important to try to do it in a timely and collegial manner.
- If you can, try to fix what the reviewer is having a problem with, not just what they say- if they list grammar fixes, don't just do the ones they mention and stop, see if there's more you can spot. If they express confusion with something and recommend a fix, think about if there's a better way to fix the confusion beyond just copying their wording (and if there isn't, that's fine too).
- If a nomination goes a couple weeks without much traction from reviewers, you can/should post around at relevant wikiprojects and elsewhere asking if anyone is willing to take a look, so that the nomination doesn't get closed due to lack of response.
- It is completely normal and even somewhat likely that the nomination will not pass on the first try. Maybe because it stopped getting reviewers before it got enough support, maybe because a bunch of issues were raised and you couldn't get to them in time. Most people's first nomination doesn't pass (mine certainly didn't!), and it doesn't mean anything about you or your ability to write articles, it means that there's a learning curve for what the difference between an FA and a GA is - it's hard to get everything right before you even try the first time.
- If it doesn't pass, for whatever reason, just take a deep breath and a break. There's a two-week waiting period before you can renominate, and it's there so that you can emotionally distance from the reviews, and go back to the article to fix whatever issues it has without any time pressure. Rushing into another nomination is much worse than waiting another week or month to make sure the article is as good as you can get it.
- About the article:
- The lead seems short; it doesn't for example seem to cover the Synopsis section or and reception beyond awards.
- Conception and Publication are both pretty short; if there's any other information you can find that would be good.
- Both Reviews and Academic analysis have the same issue: each paragraph is a different review. For Reviews, since they didn't fill paragraphs, it reads like it's divided where it was because the paragraph was too long otherwise. There's no connection between the reviews, no "story" about what the reception to the comic was, just a sequential listing of reactions. Consider restructuring the sections so that the commonalities between reviews/analysis is highlighted, e.g. "X and Y both mentioned that blah blah".
- Once everything is sorted, give the whole article a copyedit- every article needs one. Try reading each paragraph in reverse order for grammar and extraneous words/turns of phrase, so that you don't get caught up in what it says and can instead focus on how it's being said.
- Thanks very much PresN for this advice both general and specific. Also my apologies for nominating the article before addressing your critiques; that was my misunderstanding. To your points so far:
- I've expanded the header to include a basic plot summary,a bit more on the production history, key literary analyses, and a bit more on the movie. Do you think the header should have more plot information?
- I haven't been able to find much more on the conception or publication history, so I've combined those two sections into one called "Development and publication". I did find that Nimona has been translated into at least eight languages - maybe more - and I wanted your advice on this. I can find that the work has been translated through sites like Goodreads and Amazon, but I don't think these are good soutces to cite. - I think the expansion of the lead and the reworking of sections is good.
- As to the languages, you should definitely include it in some way, I feel there's a difference in the mind of the reader between "printed webcomic" and "graphic novel published in multiple languages (that originated on Tumblr)" so that'd be good to include... It'd be okay to cite Amazon in this instance, especially if the postings are by HarperCollins/the publisher, since you're just citing that the translations exist and are sold (though, to avoid having 8 references at the end of a sentence, you can put all 8 in a bulleted list in a <ref> tag- just ping me if you can't figure it out and I'll sort it). Also, it should go in the lead too.
- The table should be in time order, not reverse-time order. It also needs a caption; since you're using the "Awards table" template, just add
|caption=Award nominations by ''Nimona''
to that template. Also, maybe move it to below all the text for that section instead of in the middle. - I think it's fine to leave "queerness/identity" vs "challenging institutions and systems" together- the section is now split on "the text/themes" and "the art", which makes sense to me.
- Minor point 1 - I'd change the uses of "Associate Professor" to just "Professor" - an "associate" professor just means that they've gotten tenure unlike "assistant professor", but unless there's a specific point to be made about their job title, it's really on a job-specific title, not a description of what they do like lawyer or doctor or engineer.
- Minor point 2 - per MOS:INOROUT, when you quote something, you put the ending punctuation (both periods and commas) outside of the quote unless you're quoting a full sentence. You're doing it sometimes (
'comics like it "promote alternate perspectives on gender".'
, but not others'form being "fluid, unsettled and indefinable,"'

- An RfC is open proposing a change to the minimum activity requirements for administrators.
Technical news
- Access to Special:RevisionDelete has been expanded to include users who have the
deletelogentryanddeletedhistoryrights. This means that those in the Researcher user group and Checkusers who are not administrators can now access Special:RevisionDelete. The users able to view the special page after this change are the 3 users in the Researcher group, as there are currently no checkusers who are not already administrators. (T301928) - When viewing deleted revisions or diffs on Special:Undelete a back link to the undelete page for the associated page is now present. (T284114)

- Voting for the Universal Code of Conduct Enforcement guidelines has closed, and the results were that 56.98% of voters supported the guidelines. The results of this vote mean the Wikimedia Foundation Board will now review the guidelines.

New administrator activity requirement
The administrator policy has been updated with new activity requirements following a successful Request for Comment.
Beginning January 1, 2023, administrators who meet one or both of the following criteria may be desysopped for inactivity if they have:
- Made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least a 12-month period OR
- Made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period
Administrators at risk for being desysopped under these criteria will continue to be notified ahead of time. Thank you for your continued work.

WikiCup 2022 May newsletter
The second round of the 2022 WikiCup has now finished. It was a high-scoring round and contestants needed 115 points to advance to round 3. There were some very impressive efforts in round 2, with the top seven contestants all scoring more than 500 points. A large number of the points came from the 11 featured articles and the 79 good articles achieved in total by contestants.
Our top scorers in round 2 were:
- Epicgenius, with 1264 points from 2 featured article, 4 good articles and 18 DYKs. Epicgenius was a finalist last year but has now withdrawn from the contest as he pursues a new career path.
- AryKun, with 1172 points from two featured articles, one good article and a substantial number of featured article and good article reviews.
- Bloom6132, with 605 points from 44 in the news items and 4 DYKs.
Sammi Brie, with 573 points from 8 GAs and 21 DYKs.
Ealdgyth, with 567 points from 11 GAs and 34 good and featured article reviews.
Panini!, with 549 points from 1 FA, 4 GAs and several other sources.
Lee Vilenski, with 545 points from 1 FA, 4 GAs and a number of reviews.
The rules for featured and good article reviews require the review to be of sufficient length; brief quick fails and very short reviews will generally not be awarded points. Remember also that DYKs cannot be claimed until they have appeared on the main page. As we enter the third round, any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed now, and anything you forgot to claim in round 2 cannot! Remember too, that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met.

- Following an RfC, a change has been made to the administrators inactivity policy. Under the new policy, if an administrator has not made at least 100 edits over a period of 5 years they may be desysopped for inactivity.
- Following a discussion on the bureaucrat's noticeboard, a change has been made to the bureaucrats inactivity policy.
Technical news
- The ability to undelete the associated talk page when undeleting a page has been added. This was the 11th wish of the 2021 Community Wishlist Survey.
- A public status system for WMF wikis has been created. It is located at https://www.wikimediastatus.net/ and is hosted separately to WMF wikis so in the case of an outage it will remain viewable.
Arbitration
- Remedy 2 of the St Christopher case has been rescinded following a motion. The remedy previously authorised administrators to place a ban on single-purpose accounts who were disruptively editing on the article St Christopher Iba Mar Diop College of Medicine or related pages from those pages.

Technical news
- Administrators using the mobile web interface can now access Special:Block directly from user pages. (T307341)
- The IP Info feature has been deployed to all wikis as a Beta Feature. Any autoconfirmed user may enable the feature using the "IP info" checkbox under Preferences → Beta features. Autoconfirmed users will be able to access basic information about an IP address that includes the country and connection method. Those with advanced privileges (admin, bureaucrat, checkuser) will have access to extra information that includes the Internet Service Provider and more specific location.
Arbitration
- Remedy 2 of the Rachel Marsden case has been rescinded following a motion. The remedy previously authorised administrators to delete or reduce to a stub, together with their talk pages, articles related to Rachel Marsden when they violate Wikipedia's biographies of living persons policy.
- An arbitration case regarding WikiProject Tropical Cyclones has been closed.
