Final Fantasy XV, Nomura original director credit

Hello. I was referred (by @Tintor2:) to contact you or @ProtoDrake: before reverting back the change I made on the Tetsuya Nomura page. I think Nomura should have the "original director" credit for Final Fantasy XV because he was still the director of the project when it was re-announced as XV at E3 2013 and maintained that position until December 2013 when Tabata took over the project (The source for the December 2013 take over:http://www.siliconera.com/2016/04/05/final-fantasy-xvs-release-date-already-decided-back-2013/). Yasumi Matsuno has the credit of original director on his page for being the former director of Final Fantasy XII which was a somewhat similar situation. Do you approve of reverting to my revision with this edit giving the original director credit? If so please revert to my revision stating your approval of it. If not I understand and thank you for your time and sorry to bother. ThatPerson903 (talk) 15:52, 2 July 2016 (UTC)

ThatPerson903: Personally, I would leave it in, but make a note in the list and the prose that he was only director to the specified date. The sources I've found say that he worked as an overseer during the transition period so XV would remain as true to its original vision as possible (maintaining the lore while making it accessible, preserving the characters and basic story/themes, approving major changes such as Stella's evolution into Lunafreya). Perhaps even create a footnote detailing the game's original status and Nomura's relation to it. That's what I'd do anyway. --ProtoDrake (talk) 16:33, 2 July 2016 (UTC)
@ThatPerson903: I agree with ProtoDrake; I'd change the cell "Original concept, main character design[43]" to "Original concept, main character design[43], director (2006–13)[ref]", and possibly instead of just the reference add a footnote that explains it in a bit more detail. --PresN 18:14, 2 July 2016 (UTC)

I think you may have broken something

Hi, when you did those edits yesterday on Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Featured content and Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Good content, where you changed it to subpages, you may have broke the WP:VG page. Opening up the FA and GA listings on there bring up only redlinks. Anarchyte (work | talk) 07:52, 8 July 2016 (UTC)

FLC withdrawal

Hi PresN, Could you delete the nomination of Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of accolades received by Star Wars: The Force Awakens/archive1. It's a second nom within a couple of days by the same editor (unaware of the rules). There haven't been any comments, so we can delete the page, rather than go through a formal close. As a non-Admin I can't do the deletion, so could you do the honours...? Chers - SchroCat (talk) 12:49, 25 July 2016 (UTC)

Talk:Commander Keen in Keen Dreams/GA1

PresN, I noticed that when you closed a recent GAN review of Talk:Organization XIII/GA3, which had been nominated by Judgesurreal777 and withdrawn due to lack of time, you asked whether Judgesurreal777 would have time to complete the Commander Keen review that had been opened on July 4 but never started.

It's been a week, and Judgesurreal777 hasn't edited since that withdrawal. If you'd like, I'm happy to put in a Speedy deletion tag on the Commander Keen review if you think it would be any kind of conflict for you to do it yourself. Please let me know how you'd prefer to proceed, and if there's anything I can do to help the process along. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 04:11, 14 August 2016 (UTC)

@BlueMoonset: Thanks; I think I'll just go ahead and delete it myself right now, as I don't think it's controversial. --PresN 11:37, 14 August 2016 (UTC)

FAC voluntary mentoring scheme

During a recent lengthy discussion on the WP:FAC talkpage, several ideas were put forward as to how this procedure could be improved, particularly in making it more user-friendly towards first-time nominees. The promotion rate for first-timers at FAC is depressingly low – around 16 percent – which is a cause for concern. To help remedy this, Mike Christie and I, with the co-operation of the FAC coordinators, have devised a voluntary mentoring scheme, in which newcomers will guided by more experienced editors through the stages of preparation and submission of their articles. The general format of the scheme is explained in more detail on Wikipedia: Mentoring for FAC, which also includes a list of editors who have indicated that they are prepared to act as mentors.

Would you be prepared to take on this role occasionally? If so, please add your name to the list. By doing so you incur no obligation; it will be entirely for you to decide how often and on which articles you want to act in this capacity. We anticipate that the scheme will have a trial run for a few months before we appraise its effectiveness. Your participation will be most welcome. Brianboulton (talk) 21:42, 29 August 2016 (UTC)

Many thanks for signing up. The response from would-be mentors has been most encouraging. Schemes like this are often slow to take off, and it may be a while before we know if it's working. But with this level of support, including that of many of our most experienced FA editors, I think it has every chance. Brianboulton (talk) 16:49, 30 August 2016 (UTC)

Thank you

Presn, thank you for helping me out in the FL review of the list that I had nominated. It's my first FL and I wanted to thank you (and the other reviewers) for guiding me so patiently. My sincere thanks. Lourdes 01:21, 2 September 2016 (UTC)

@Lourdes: No problem; congratulations on your first bit of featured content! I hope to see you around FLC in the future as well! --PresN 00:44, 7 September 2016 (UTC)

How about promoting it instead, since it has been open so long with no unaddressed actionable feedback? I'm not entirely serious, but the entire process has been one of waiting for, and not receiving, feedback. If you want to close it and move on, fine, but please give a detailed evaluation of what you would like to see fixed. Thanks, Jclemens (talk) 21:52, 6 September 2016 (UTC)

@Jclemens: I agree that it's unpleasant when a nomination gets archived due to lack of feedback; I wish that it never happened. The fact of the matter is, though, is that we can't keep nominations open forever if they're not getting feedback, or it starves out the whole process. FLC is currently experiencing a drought of reviewers, but we always need more. The only way to combat this is for everyone who participates in the process to review other nominations- the more reviews are being done, the more feedback every nomination gets on average. Too many people are nominating without reviewing, though, so... things don't always work out.
As to "give[ing] a detailed evaluation of what you would like to see fixed": that's a review. As a delegate, I'm not reviewing lists when I close them, I'm evaluating if the reviewers have determined that all of the issues they found with the list have been fixed. So "what I'd like to see fixed" was multiple editors reviewing in-depth and then supporting the nomination, and I didn't see that. --PresN 00:39, 7 September 2016 (UTC)
We're in somewhat of a catch-22 then, as I have not had a FLC promoted in years, and am eager to re-learn the ropes and apply them to the various GoT season lists--all of which are quite popular at the quarter-million level or higher. If you'll look at my GA work, you'll see that I'm entirely comfortable both getting things promoted to GA, and in reviewing others' work. But I can't really pitch in and help appropriately if I'm not getting feedback to bridge the gap between what WP:WIAFL says and how that's currently implemented--anyone who's been around long enough knows that there are both formal definitions of processes and requirements, along with tribal knowledge about how things really work, which can be at least as important. Once I've got that mastered, then I will consider myself qualified, and make myself available, to help out on FLC reviews. Do you have a TPS or another FAC reviewer who could do me the courtesy of such a "here's what to work on" review? Jclemens (talk) 06:07, 7 September 2016 (UTC)

My first FAN

Recently I have nominated the article of an anime and manga character named Allen Walker after some copy-edits. Since the project doesn't a FA character, I based it on Lightning (Final Fantasy). I tried making the fictional information as small as possible and make it easy to understand. If you could help me with the "mentor thing" (though I still don't get it) I would appreciate it. Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 23:40, 6 September 2016 (UTC)

@Tintor2: Can do! I'll go over the article tomorrow and see how I can help out. How the "mentor" thing works seems to be up to the parties involved- pre-FAC reviewing/helping, helping out at the FAC, doing an early in-depth review so you don't get blindsided by reviewers a month in, etc. In this case, I'll probably try to be a "super-reviewer" - not just reviewing the article by listing out problems and letting you deal with it, but actually getting involved with fixing any problems and discussing it more in depth than a regular reviewer would be willing to put the time in for. --PresN 00:43, 7 September 2016 (UTC)
I got two supports for the article but I'm pretty sure that I need at least five to make it pass. Do you know someway to get more feedback? I linked in the anime and manga project but still no response. Anyways, thanks for mentoring me. Regards,Tintor2 (talk) 20:43, 12 September 2016 (UTC)
@Tintor2: I've been busy, but I'll get back to my review, so you'll eventually get up to at least 3 supports. That's enough to keep it from being archived, usually, so from there it's a waiting game (3-4 or so is usually enough, though it depends on who the supporters are/how thorough their review is). You do stuff with video games as well, so it may be worth next time there's a review thread at WPVG offering a review in return for a review of your article- trading for a non-VG article review has been done before; I reviewed an editor's article about a language in China once. --PresN 20:54, 12 September 2016 (UTC)
Also, you'll need an image review and, since it's your first FAN, a source review with spotchecks. Nominations don't get archived if that's all they need, though, as explicitly stated by the FAC coordinators, so no worries- it just takes time. --PresN 20:56, 12 September 2016 (UTC)
Image review? But didn't ProtoDrake make that? Or does this mean the rationale needs to be even bigger? Regards.Tintor2 (talk) 22:24, 12 September 2016 (UTC)
@Tintor2: You're right, he did. --PresN 00:15, 13 September 2016 (UTC)
Update. Now three supports thanks to AngusWoof's feedback. Should I contribute to another FA review to get an exchange? Still, User:Jaguar told me he would check Allen's review once he is finished his Mario Galaxy article.Tintor2 (talk) 01:45, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
@Tintor2: I see that Jaguar just supported, so you shouldn't need any exchanges; that said, it would still be a good idea to contribute to other FA reviews- the process as a whole is super-long most of the time because there's not enough reviews going around, so it's good etiquette to give out at least 2-3 reviews for every nomination you do. Besides, even if you don't need them now, people are more likely to give you a review on your next FAN if they remember you reviewing their nomination before. --PresN 14:40, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
Update: Wow, 7 supports. Should I keep reviewing other FANs to get more feedback is this okay and I should still review others without requesting for more feedback? Regards.Tintor2 (talk) 20:16, 2 October 2016 (UTC)
@Tintor2: Yeah, you, uh... don't need any more supports. 3 is usually enough, let alone 7! I'd certainly never discourage anyone from doing reviews- it helps everyone, after all- but you don't need to do any more for this nomination. Looks like you just need a source review and it'll get promoted, and that'll happen whenever it happens (the coordinators won't close the nomination until it gets one, so it just takes time.) --PresN 22:43, 2 October 2016 (UTC)
What's a source review? Still a fellow user from the Wikipedia Project of Anime and Manga said he needs some help so I'll try to help him. Regards.Tintor2 (talk) 23:06, 2 October 2016 (UTC)
@Tintor2: A "source review" is a review that checks only that your sources are 1) formatted correctly, 2) all to reliable sources (and the reviewer will call out sources they're not sure of for you to explain, 3) that the sources you use actually support whay you have the, referencing (via spotchecks of a handful of sources), and 4) if possible, check that you're not missing obvious sources (like, if you had a biography article that used no sources newer than 1950, you're probably missing a lot of modern scholarship; or if you had a Japanese video game with only American sources). It's required for nominations by a) first-timers, b) people who've had problems with misusing sources before, or c) esoteric subjects (13th-century biographies, etc.) Looks like you can specifically request one to speed up the process a bit at the box at the top of WT:FAC. You can see a recent ask for why image/source reviews are "special" at Wikipedia talk:Featured article candidates#Why there are only "image review" and "sources review"?. --PresN 23:16, 2 October 2016 (UTC)
Requested.Tintor2 (talk) 23:21, 2 October 2016 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure most sources are backed up by the Anime and Manga Project as seen here with both "Mania Beyond Entertainment" and "The Fandom Post" being owned by the same writer, Chris Beveridge. Still, I'm not sure about "Capsule Computers." I just added it as I saw it in other articles. Regards.Tintor2 (talk) 18:37, 7 October 2016 (UTC)
Sorry for bothering you again, but can I also make a source review in Super Mario Galaxy? I say it since I found all its reviews reliable (I'm also familiar with the Wikipedia's video game project and it could make the source reviews faster. Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 17:41, 10 October 2016 (UTC)
@Tintor2: Nothing stopping you! Just go through all of the sources and verify that they're reliable, and verify that the citation format is consistent and filled out without errors. It's also a good idea to do some spotchecks (take 4 or so references and verify that the information is present in the source and is used accurately), though it's not actually necessary since it's not Jaguar's first FAC. --PresN 17:50, 10 October 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. I'll give it a try.Tintor2 (talk) 19:02, 10 October 2016 (UTC)

Hello PresN, could you promote List of Game of Thrones episodes to Feature List. All reviewers(3) have given there support(Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of Game of Thrones episodes/archive1). Thanks in advance. AffeL (talk) 09:16, 9 September 2016 (UTC)

@AffeL: I or one of the other coordinators will get to it when we can; you don't need to let us know (the nominations view script makes it easy to see the status of all of the nominations). Do note that the nomination a) still need a source review and b) has only been open a week, so we're likely to let it sit a bit to make sure no one else has any comments. --PresN 14:36, 9 September 2016 (UTC)

Hi PresN. I see that you merged and redirected Baseball (1971 video game) here. @MrX: it should just be redirected to Early mainframe games as a name variant of Baseball (1971 video game) - it's the same game at a new title. The game is merged at that Early mainframe games article, and the new title doesn't add any new RSs. --PresN 15:08, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

Extended confirmed protection

Hello, PresN. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.

Party Quiz Mega Q

Thanks for reviewing the article. It can't be that far off Start class surely? I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the soundtrack was released on some album. I'm not sure if it's a reliable source, but I'll see if I can hunt it down. I know reliable sources about those sorts of games are hard to come by (and English sources almost impossible), and I'm probably lucky to have what I've cited.

Same (the class) for Puzzle & Action: Treasure Hunt, which you also rated. I would have included a screenshot, but I've never actually played that game, so I don't know enough about the sort of games it has. I created that article for the series' completeness, as it felt odd for the first 2 games to have articles but not the third. The language barrier is annoying, as the first source looks to be some sort of interview, and could have a wealth of info. If it had furigana I could put it into Google Translate, but no :(.

I realise neither article has much hope of ever going beyond Start class, but I like to aim for the highest they can possibly be. Is that a goal worth going for? Adam9007 (talk) 22:11, 26 September 2016 (UTC)

@Adam9007: - When I rate unrated articles, I'm typically doing a batch of 10 or so, clearing out the categories, spending like 5 seconds on each one, so you should always feel free to re-rate them if you disagree (or rate them yourself in the first place- there's no rule saying that the rater can't be the writer). Party Quiz Mega Q is pretty close to Start-class; any reception or development info at all would move it over, though some editors would say that the fact that it has a coherent text and a few references makes it a Start-class to being with. (shrug). Puzzle & Action: Treasure Hunt... I guess that I went for Stub just because it was so short. You can bump it up (both of them) if you don't think there's anything else that can be found. --PresN 23:04, 26 September 2016 (UTC)
If I create or work on an article, I like to be sure that it truly deserves its rating. If I rate it myself, that's not being impartial is it? I've added the info about music, and found what I think is a better source than the one I was talking about, so in this case, I think I'll be WP:BOLD and promote it to Start. It's not a "very basic description of the topic" and provides more than "very little meaningful content" anyway. As for Puzzle & Action: Treasure Hunt, someone else put a stub template on it, so you're not the only one. I'm sure the sources I've cited contain plenty of info; the problem is that I don't know enough Japanese and there's no furigana lifeboat, so I can't type it in and check it because I don't know the kanji readings. I think the addition of a screenshot (with a suitable caption) would be enough to push it into Start class territory, but I'm no expert on rating video game articles. FAC Mentoring request

Hi! I am currently trying to bring the article on Spec Ops: The Line to FAC standards. Out of the three video game FAC mentors, you are the only one that has previously edited the article (although it was a citation fix nearly a year ago). I'd like to assume from this that you'd be the most familiar with the Spec Ops game. I would like to ask for your assistance in bringing this article to an acceptable quality, enough at least to present it to everyone else as a nomination. I have a good grasp on English and general Wikipedia rules, but I am not very familiar with the more specific VG guidelines meant for creating the best possible articles. I began to seriously work on this article earlier this month, and the edits I've made so far have largely been directed by assistance from IDV and Famous Hobo, the FAC nominators of the Virtue's Last Reward article. I have a decent idea on how I'd go about improving the Spec Ops article (I made a general plan on the article's Talk page), but I'd very much like to recieve some formal guidance from you. Liar's Lair (talk) 02:14, 29 September 2016 (UTC)

@Liar's Lair: Sure, I can help out. I'm a little busy right now, so give me a couple days and I'll try to give the article a look-over for improvements. I have not played the game, or even read the article, though- that edit was part of a series of about 100 to various articles that were referencing that website that was about to close down. --PresN 03:25, 29 September 2016 (UTC)
That makes sense, I'm fine with all of that. Thank you for deciding to help me. And besides, I haven't really finalized much on the article except the lead and the plot section - A few days should give me more time to work on the dev section and reception sections, since I have a good idea on how to change and improve them. Bubsy Bobcat

I noticed you redirected Bubsy Bobcat to the article about the game series. What makes you say it isn't notable? A lot of sources have been cited. 172.89.86.87 (talk) 03:09, 2 October 2016 (UTC)

@172.89.86.87: There's a few sources, true. But look at the content: "Personality" is basically a couple throwaway sentences about his smirk, and some game recap. "Powers and abilities" is all game recap, as is "Game appearances"; "Other appearances" and "Merchandise" is just a list of other "Bubsy" media. The only sections that are actually about the character, rather than the series, are "Concept" and "Reception", which are collectively 6 short sentences. "Concept" is just 'he was based on Sonic. And cartoons'. "Reception" is okay; a couple listicles and a vague sentence about a cult following. So, like I said in the redirect edit- there just isn't a lot of content there; it's mostly padding that isn't about the character so much as the series he's in, and what little there is doesn't really need a stand-alone article when it fits much better in the series article. It's better to have a single well-rounded article about the series + main character + spinoffs than to have several tiny stub articles that can't be expanded because there's nothing to use. --PresN 05:11, 2 October 2016 (UTC)

Possible article idea

Hey Pres. Since you've been working on old-school games lately, I want to suggest a possible game idea. Didn't see an article created for it but on Polygon they made a feature on the self-destructing game of 1986. GamerPro64 17:30, 10 October 2016 (UTC)

Nothing important, but...

Hey. Remembering that wrangle we needed to have about whether XV was still part of FNC or not, and you said that they were trying to remove the branding? Well, it's correct, and come straight from the horse's mouth. This original interview with Tabata features questions about FNC's relation of XV. The branding was removed from XV so it wouldn't limit the audience, but elements have been retained (design, basic lore, visual references), which lines up with other statements. Cudos to you, I did seriously have my doubts about your suppositions. I've added the information to the relevant articles. --ProtoDrake (talk) 14:19, 22 October 2016 (UTC)

@ProtoDrake: I'm pleased to have been right, but mostly relieved that we finally have a straight answer- I was beginning to suspect that we'd never get one! Not really surprised at the wonky outcome, though- this is, after all, the company that has given us a "Compilation of FF7" that includes neither FF7 nor it's remake. --PresN 02:14, 23 October 2016 (UTC)

Revert of Homeworld without good reason

Hi, your revert without discussion is not constructive. Also, your edits are not beyond criticism, flattening hierarchies to 1 not a benefit. Also, my edit added sourced content and valuable you removed excessively without giving strong reasons before. So, this was a compromise offer from my side despite your aggressive removals before (which was a massive blob which is also against good practices). WikiProject Good Articles's 2016-2017 GA Cup

WikiProject Good Articles's 2016-2017 GA Cup

Greetings, all!

We would like to announce the start of the 4th GA Cup, a competition that seeks to encourage the reviewing of Good article nominations! Thus far, there have been three GA Cups, which were successful in reaching our goals of significantly reducing the traditionally long queue at GAN, so we're doing it again. Currently, there are over 400 nominations listed. We hope that we can again make an impact this time.

The 4th GA Cup will begin on November 1, 2016. Four rounds are currently scheduled (which will bring the competition to a close on February 28, 2017), but this may change based on participant numbers. We may take a break in December for the holidays, depending on the results of a poll of our participants taken shortly after the competition begins. The sign-up and submissions process will remain the same, as will the scoring.

Sign-ups for the upcoming competition are currently open and will close on November 14, 2016. Everyone is welcome to join; new and old editors, so sign-up now!

If you have any questions, take a look at the FAQ page and/or contact one of the judges.

Cheers from 3family6, Figureskatingfan, Jaguar, MrWooHoo, and Zwerg Nase. We apologize for the delay in sending out this message until after the competition has started. Thank you to Krishna Chaitanya Velaga for aiding in getting this message out.

To subscribe or unsubscribe to future GA Cup newsletters, please add or remove your name to our mailing list. If you are a participant, you will be on the mailing list no matter what as this is the easiest way to communicate between all participants.

FFXV Music

I know it's highly improbably that it'll be in the wider article space before the official album releases, but I've done a draft version in my Sandbox (still in places a work in progress), so when it's out, maybe you could include the tracklists for the major albums. Most of the rest of it is done, aside from the reviews that haven't happened yet of course.

@ProtoDrake: Will do; I have a script that converts a vgmdb page to a wikipedia table so it makes starting off a tracklist really easy. And yeah, I typically wouldn't make a live article without at least 2 albums and a single, so late December it looks like. --PresN 19:55, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

Can't find Tidus' young voices

For some reason, no site is sure who voiced Tidus' younger persona in FFX. Still, Behind the voice Actors confirmed the one for Kingdom Hearts. A fellow user once told me during the Allen Walker review that if the younger selves appear for little time, then they are not notable and the focus should moved to the main ones. Do you agree? Regards.Tintor2 (talk) 21:26, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

@Tintor2: Yeah, I'd agree- Young Tidus (as a separate/separately-voiced character from regular Tidus) is a minor part of the game, and if you can't find a name then you can't find one. The James Taylor/Masakazu Morita performance is by far the main one, as far as voice acting goes. --PresN 01:34, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers

Hi PresN.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

Hello, PresN. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

Source Review Request for FLC

Hello, I was wondering if you could help me with my FLC for the list Shannen Doherty filmography by doing a source review for it. I apologize for any inconvenience, and I understand if you are unable to do so (as it is a very busy time of the year). I was just wondering if you could help since you did the source review for my last FLC (List of songs recorded by Alyssa Milano). I can help you with any GAN/FLC/FA things you need in exchange. Thank you either way. Aoba47 (talk) 17:42, 27 November 2016 (UTC)

@Aoba47: I source-reviewed that list as part of my duties as an FLC delegate; I'll probably be the one who gets around to source-reviewing your new list as well. It may be a while, though- a backlog has built up of lists that are ready for source-review/promotion, as all of the coordinators are pretty busy right now. --PresN 19:06, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
Oh! Duh, sorry for missing the obvious about that; I completely forgot that you were a FLC delegate. Thank you for your response. I am in absolutely no rush, as my FLC was posted very recently (it was only about a month ago) so I agree that it is better to pay more attention to those further down in the backlog. I may actually get more people to respond and give me feedback anyway, which is always a good thing. I apologize again for missing the obvious, and I hope you are having a wonderful weekend. Aoba47 (talk) 20:17, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
While we have a review request section here, please let me add one of my own. This FLC came with a desire to have the list featured at TFL on December 12, two weeks from now. The next time you do source checks, please take a look at this one if you can, as I've held a spot open at TFL for the list and time is growing short. I've supported already, so you should probably be the one to close the FLC when the time comes. Thanks. Giants2008 (Talk) 21:08, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
@Giants2008: Will do; planning to do another pass today or tomorrow, and I'll make sure to hit that one. --PresN 21:22, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for completing the source review, Pres. I hate to bug you again, but to have this appear on TFL on the 12th, the article would need to be promoted within the next couple days. As a non-admin, I can't edit the TFL template immediately before Main Page day, and I don't feel comfortable leaving the spot on the 12th empty for much longer. Since I'm conflicted out of doing a closure here, I'll leave it to you to determine whether it is ready. Giants2008 (Talk) 01:05, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
@Giants2008: Promoted it; I was just waiting for the last review to close. Let me know if there's anything you need me to admin-edit. --PresN 04:38, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

Question about FL versus FA

Hello again! Thank you for your help with the FLC for Shannen Doherty filmography. I apologize for the inconvenience again, but I have another question to ask you. I am a little confused about the difference between a featured article and a featured list in terms of fictional characters. I am thinking of putting up Russell family (Passions) as a FLC sometime in the near future (after I review it a few more times). I originally categorized this as an article, and nominated it and had it promoted as a good article. It was actually originally categorized as a list before I expanded it. However, I have reconsidered and believe that it works more as a list rather than an article. I think that this page follows more closely to featured lists of fictional characters, such as List of Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow characters and List of The Last of Us characters. I was wondering if you think that would be a correct move, or if you believe that FAC would be the more correct venue for this. I have seen pages about multiple fictional characters be categorized as a list (as in the previous examples) and an article (as in Characters of Final Fantasy VIII and Characters of Carnivàle) I am thinking that this page corresponds more so the list examples, but I want to know more about this from someone who is more experienced with Wikipedia. I hope this makes sense, and I apologize in advance if this is a rather obvious situation. Aoba47 (talk) 18:47, 2 December 2016 (UTC)

@Aoba47: Yeah, the line for character articles/lists like this is really blurry- the FL and FA groups honestly overlap a bit. In the end, because they're all-text the main criteria is what the lead editor wants it to be. Besides that, a good-sized development and reception sections are points in favor of FA, while many 1-paragraph character sections are points in favor of FL. The latter seems to be why List of Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow characters went that route- the antagonists are all 1 paragraph each. Characters of Final Fantasy VIII has a few of those, but counters it with some really long ones and a very lengthy Cast creation and influences section. Additionally, the less out-of-universe information you have in each character section, the more it seems to be a list. Myself, I'd personally say that Russell family (Passions) is an FA, not an FL, primarily for that last reason- each character has more than 1 paragraph, and talks about their real-world aspects far more than a repetition of the characters' description, traits, and place in the story. There's also a good chunk of development, merchandise, and reception. It's a listy article, but I think that's mostly an artifact of every character having a subarticle, and I'd take it to FA. Up to you, though. --PresN 20:23, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for your response. You have helped me a lot to better understand the difference between FL and FA, in terms of how they apply fictional characters. I see your point and I completely agree with you. Since I have added information regrading the characters' development, merchandise related to the characters, and their reception to the page, I agree that it would be more appropriate to take it to FA. I look forward to bringing this FAC and getting constructive feedback sometime next year! I hope that you have a wonderful rest of your day. Aoba47 (talk) 20:50, 2 December 2016 (UTC)

Op Rainfall question

Hi there. I've just nominated Pandora's Tower for GA. This will be the last of four articles related to or concerning the Operation Rainfall fan campaign, including the titular article, Xenoblade Chronicles and The Last Story: with Pandora's Tower done, all four will be GAs. I was thinking that the four articles would make a Good Topic, but I'm a little uncertain as to whether it would be either substantial enough or tie together well enough. The campaign did have an effect on all those games, so it seemed suitable. And since I've got a Good Topic for Fire Emblem almost upon me anyway, I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone as the saying goes. (Oh yeah, and the incredible thing for me is that this whole thing was unplanned) --ProtoDrake (talk) 17:35, 3 December 2016 (UTC)

@ProtoDrake: I think that would work fine; that seems to be a logical division and there's no rule that games can only be in by-developer/by-publisher topics. It's not quite the same, but Wikipedia:Featured topics/Capcom Five is just the five GameCube games that Capcom announced at the same time- the games aren't related to each other except through the group, same as the Oprain games. --PresN 19:36, 3 December 2016 (UTC)

Tidus FA?

The article Tidus has already been copy-edited and received a peer review. Do you think its current status is good for a FA nomination? Just wanted to have your opinion considering you are an expert in this. Regards.Tintor2 (talk) 13:21, 4 December 2016 (UTC)

Megami Tensei question

Hi! I've been working on List of Megami Tensei media recently, and have followed your "Shove it in a table" guide. I'm wondering about one thing that the guide doesn't take up and that I cannot find on any Wikipedia-namespace pages, so I figured I should ask you for help. My question is: when should a standalone list article have content spun out into standalone sub-lists? The Megami Tensei media list is getting quite long, largely thanks to the manga and music sections, so would it be appropriate to create List of Megami Tensei print media and List of Megami Tensei soundtrack albums? Also wondering if I have to consider notability - can I create that print media list at all, considering the various manga haven't gotten a lot of coverage in reliable sources?--IDVtalk 16:35, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

@IDV: There isn't a standard for that, unfortunately, as it's highly dependent on the topic in question. Final Fantasy solved the same problem with List of Final Fantasy video games and List of Final Fantasy media, though - splitting off the very large video game section, which in the MT list appears to be about half of the length. On the flip side, Final Fantasy has an obvious "main series" summary table that MT doesn't, so if you broke out the games you'd have to leave an expository paragraph instead. I think that may be a better solution than breaking out the print media and soundtracks; you can dodge the notability question in that as they are explicitly sub-articles broken out for size reasons, but I'm not sure conceptually that it works as well. --PresN 18:53, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
All right, I think I'll do that. Yeah, I looked at the Final Fantasy lists and noted that Megami Tensei doesn't have an as clear main series (it would be the original Megami Tensei titles + Shin Megami Tensei, but those are really two sub-series, with one succeeding the other...), so I guess writing a paragraph or so would be the best/simplest way of handling it. Thank you for the help.--IDVtalk 19:39, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
Hi again! I have now created List of Megami Tensei video games. Do you spot anything obvious that is wrong or missing, or do you think it is ready for FLC? I would put it up for a PR, but the trend I'm seeing there is that they just prolong the time before a nomination without resulting in any feedback...--IDVtalk 15:03, 12 December 2016 (UTC)
@IDV: Yeah, PR isn't really helpful for lists, there's not enough listy people who spend time there. I think you're good to go; I'm sure that there will be things that come up in the FLC review (For example, I think the lead could stand to have a little more explanation of what the spinoff series are, maybe pull in a bit form Megami Tensei about how popular the series is as a whole, and have an explicit link to List of Megami Tensei media (like FF does with "numerous titles in other media forms", or an explicit "see also" template). Really though, it's looking pretty sharp, so I'd go ahead an nominate it. Do note: FLC is running slow right now, with nominations taking 2-3 months to get through. The only way to get around this is to get people to review your list (we will promote things as early as 2 weeks if they get significant traffic), so if you don't want to wait, ask for help at WT:VG, and especially review other lists at FLC with a link back to your nomination. --PresN 15:46, 12 December 2016 (UTC)

Congrats, it's a great article after a long gestation. I'm going to disappear again now, for the first time since I have been on Wikipedia, I feel why people leave and never come back. I'll return again when I am in better spirits, I'm pretty sure I will always come back :) Good luck. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 03:09, 14 December 2016 (UTC)
