Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Leukduck.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Leukduck.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 15:35, 1 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion edit

Regarding the article OLM(Our Lady of Mercy School), which you tagged for speedy deletion with the reason "This article or other page provides no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent. It is patent nonsense", I wanted you to know that I have removed the speedy deletion tag. This article does not qualify for speedy deletion because it is in a foreign language, which is not nonsense. If you still want the article to be deleted, please use the WP:AFD process. Thanks! Stifle (talk) 20:12, 2 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes I agree that of course it is not nonsense, i realised it was in another lanugage, but wasnt sure what to tag it, in fact I asked Pedro [2] what to do in those situations before you commented on my user page, and he said A2, but I dont think A2 is suitable for these cases as no one knows whether there is a corresponding article on the foreign language wikipedia. But I PRODed it anyway. Phgao 20:21, 2 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
The correct tag is {{notenglish|language it is in}}. Thanks. Stifle (talk) 20:22, 2 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Ok thanks, that should be put into Twinkle as another option. Phgao 20:24, 2 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Non english articles edit

WP:CSD#A2 my friend! "Foreign language articles that exist on another Wikimedia project. If the article does not exist on another project, use the template {{notenglish}} instead, and list the page at Wikipedia:Pages needing translation into English for review and possible translation". How you determine it is on another wiki can be more tricky. I've only ever had one once that I found was a mirror of the ru. wiki. Best bet to be honest is either tag not english or just userfy it. Hope that helps Pedro :  Chat  20:14, 2 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

In general play it safe. I see the article you highlighted turned out to be nonsense on transaltion and was speedied under A7. What you can do is take, say, the first eight words and cut and paste them into google. If you get an exact hit on another wikipedia then you know where it's going (and can add a comment to the talk page). Generally if it's not English and you can't translate it just use the not english tag and hope someone multilingual turns up! Pedro :  Chat  07:05, 3 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Question re: Cluebot edit

I'm not sure what TB2 is, but yes it is for bot reporting. As for why Cluebot doesn't report I think it's not built to do that, or may not have permissions. You could ask at User talk:Cobi as he's the bot's owner. Pedro :  Chat  11:30, 4 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

You're allways welcome. If I can help I always will. Pedro :  Chat  11:41, 4 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

WP:CSD#A2 etc edit

Hmmm. I'd just use A7. I suppose my rationale is this. If it's the kind of thing you'd see in a sandbox then it's proably a test page. If it mentions a name then I'd stick with A7. I don't think anyone will shout at you on that though, provided the article clearly should be speedied. It's gone now BTW - I've deleted it. Pedro :  Chat  11:53, 4 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes I bet they do get deleted faster. Here's why. At CAT:CSD you can view pages nominated for speedy deletion by cattegory - e.g. attack, nonsense, notability etc etc. Hitting the delete button on empty articles, attack pages and tests is dead dead easy - I could kill three a minute with just prefunctuory checks. But an A7 notability can be a lot harder - more posibility of something in the history (whch you have to check on every article before deleting), posibility of links to the page, the page may be a longer article and needs reading etc etc etc. I suspect some admins breeze over, look at all the G1 or G2's and knock them on the head, then start ploughing through the hard work. That's why you see anything under G1, A1, A3, G10, G3 and A2 all go fast, whereas other stuff can last for ages. To be honest I always check for G10's before doing anything else, to make sure we get attack pages cleared out fast. Hope that helps Pedro :  Chat  12:04, 4 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, a user just told me about that tag, and I added it to my template. Also, please note that I cannot determine if a user will vandalise a page after I give them a friendly greeting, as that user if you see the time stamps vandalised after the welcome. I find that welcoming users greatly reduces vandalism. Thank for the heads up with the div tag as well! Oh and on my user page, I like the box around :) Phgao 02:55, 5 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Trying do delete More than Hagnesta Hill ??! edit

I deleted your vile wrong and rude post of deleting the More than Hagnesta Hill Kent single CD article. You requested deletion for it only a few minutes after I made the article, while I was in the process of expanding it. It is acessable from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kent_%28band%29#Singles_in_English I have made about 30 Kent CD single articles this way, with almost no information at first, and then I added more information to expand the articles. If you have a problem with this then I am so sorry, and frankly I don't care, as I am a fan of this band who is expanding Wikipedia's information about the band. I don't have the time to do it all at once so I do step by step, improving all the single articles by Kent. But I must thank you for not putting that dumb deletion request on the other articles that I wrote. It is one thing if a newbie creats an article and just leaves it there, but that is why you should look into who made the articles - if you looked at my profile you would be able to find out that I regularly update all the Kent CD single pages by adding more info on all of them. Some people don't put everything there is about the CD all at once, sorry! Sorry if this is a rude post, but what you did is a rude thing. (LAz17 00:14, 6 October 2007 (UTC)).Reply

Please AGF and remain civil, please realise that tagging New Pages occurs right after they are created, so of course I tagged it a few mins after you made the article. You can add a tag, saying the article is in the process of being written and that usually prevents any tagging. Also the hangon tag can be used to allow an admin to further scrutinise the article. Furthermore, if you wish to avoid this happening again, you can do draft versions in your sandbox and submit a more complete version. Phgao 00:19, 6 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
I added the hang on and I also finished adding info on the CD single. I have no idea what draft versions are. I just edit articles until they are okay. (LAz17 00:27, 6 October 2007 (UTC)).Reply
For example you can create pages like [5] which you can add whatever you like (up to a point), and create "draft" articles there. Phgao 00:30, 6 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

World Record Club edit

It is a bit harsh that you have labelled this, an article I was just beginning to create, for deletion literally at the instant that I was creating it. I don't see that you could even have had time to read what I have written before it was labelled as I had just spent about an hour writing the bit that I did, saved it, and hey presto up for deletion. Give me a chance! I haven't even wikified it or anything yet and there is much more to be done with it. Please see the talk page for justification. Sedgefoot 01:35, 6 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

You are leaving Wikipedia? Um, well ok it is easier, but would you consider changing it to reflect more on the article, ie change it to church, as when I see hello, I think vandalism/ test page. This would help those patrolling new pages. Thanks. Phgao 01:42, 6 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Passwords edit

Nah, admins can't reset other user's passwords, and AFAIK bureacrats can't either. Probably the only ones that can are the software developers. In the case you refer to, its a complicated story. The user was blocked for disruptive editing, he then created a sockpuppet which also edited disruptively (which I indef-blocked as a sockpuppet at the same time as extending the 1st users block for sockpuppetry for block avoidance). He then created a 2nd sockpuppet which posted the password of the original user on its user page. I tested the user name and password and it logged on which proved this 3rd user was a geniune sockpuppet). So while I was logged on, I changed his password using the normal facility in preferences. I'm half expecting to see him again. —Moondyne 02:02, 6 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Regarding West Ashley High School edit

I've removed the PROD you placed as the school is clearly quite notable as shown in aquick search on the Internet. Not many schools get visited by the President of the United States and the fact that he visited the school makes it quite notable. Hopefully removing the PROD is okay with you and if you don't agree with it, you can take it up at WP:AFD. Thanks and happy editing! --Hdt83 Chat 00:58, 9 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Special:Unwatchedpages edit

It is indeed admin only. Basically it's a list of all articles that are on no-ones watchlist. This means they are more suceptible to sneaky vanmdalism as no-one is watching them. It's limited to admins to make sure that vandals can't see the list and therefore vandalise unwatched articles. It's a useful(ish) tool if you want to vandal fight basically. But it's a long, long list! I wouldn't be concerned about your neutral. You were indepth with your rationale and reasoning, and RfA is note a vote, allegedly. It's a discussion and you discussed which is what it's about. Pedro :  Chat  08:16, 9 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Blocked users editing edit

Blocked users can still edit their talk pages, in order that they can ask for block reviews. They can also send e-mails via the media wiki software, assuming that the blocking admin didn't disable that feature (the default is to alow them to send emails).

Hello Phgao,

Thank you for the compliment/commendation on the outcome of my RfA. Based on your note left at my talk page (and my disdain for spam), I decided to send you this original note -- instead of the boilerplate "ZOMG! thank-u! thank-u!! thank-u!!!" material.

To that end, I will keep this short: feel free to contact me if you need help with any on-wiki actions requiring administrative access. This includes page moves [over redirects], have deleted content moved to your user space [for improvement], and the like. I will be happy to assist you as best I can.

Thanks again for taking the time to participate in my RfA; I really appreciate the support you provided. Cheers, --Aarktica 23:42, 9 October 2007 (UTC) Reply

Rome High School edit

Hey, man. I believe in having well written articles on Wikipedia, but I didn't have the article out there for ten seconds before you nominated it for deletion. My edit summary when I saved it said that it was not the final product and to give me time. Ten seconds is not time enough for me to get it perfected. WP:DP actually states to improve or tag it, rather than nominate it for deletion. Please give users time to perfect their article before you nominated for deletion. Thanks Gdk411 00:49, 9 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello, that is why I prodded it (not that schools can be CSDed anyway), but as it is a PROD, anyone can remove it. I have since sent it to AfD. Phgao 13:00, 10 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

re: meetups edit

Please do come! This last one was unusually structured and to-the-point. Most will not be like that. At past meetups lots of us have been students. It is fun to meet some of the people you edit alongside, even if you feel like you have nothing special to contribute. If nothing else you get to enjoy the fact that you can make a wiki joke and people will not only understand it, but they'll laugh. ;) --pfctdayelise (talk) 11:44, 11 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Having a quiet place to talk was part of the reason I chose the library. (There's nothing I hate more than when you're talking to someone interesting but can't even hear them in a bar or restaurant! argh.) The next one will either be a library or another quiet place. But afterwards if there are a few people who don't have to rush off they usually go to a nearby cafe or restaurant for a bite to eat or a drink. --pfctdayelise (talk) 14:19, 11 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

My recent RfA edit

Thank you for supporting my RfA, which unfortunately didn't succeed. The majority of the opposes stated that I needed more experience in the main namespace and Wikipedia namespace, so that is what I will do. I will go for another RfA in two month's time and I hope you will be able to support me then as well. If you have any other comments for me or wish to be notified when I go for another RfA, please leave them on my talk page. If you wish to nominate me for my next RfA, please wait until it has been two months. Thanks again for participating in my RfA! -- Cobi(t|c|b|cn) 01:35, 12 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Kizor edit

Hi mate. I notice your comment on the above. I've made a suggestion there - ask the candidate directly the circumstances of the block and how he feel about it. I'm impressed. I forgot to check the block log. Well done on your throughness. Pedro :  Chat  13:51, 12 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Spot on question. Whilst civility and good faith are imperative the whole point of RfA is that it is a discussion. By directly addressing an issue of concern through a question that candidate has the option to either assuage your worries or indeed confirm there is an issue. And that can only be helpful to everyone. Nice One. Pedro :  Chat  14:15, 12 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

User talk:Misha.grey@gmail.com edit

Technically it's in breach of policy. See WP:UN and detailed items under part 4. Post Jan 1 2007 accounts should not be emails. I'm not going to block yet. Try advising the editor that they should get a new account, and see what the outcome is. It might be worth mentioning that their name could be blocked at any time and they'd loose their edit history on that account. Remember to be very nice about it - though I'm sure you will be! I just finished that article and you're nominating it for a freaking AfD? I'm trying to remain civil here, but it isn't easy. That store was a major part of my area's local history. - PMDrive1061 02:42, 13 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • Never mind. I've blanked the article. This is precisely the type of idiocy that drove me off this site in the first place. Enjoy your site. I'm out of here. - PMDrive1061 02:45, 13 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • Yes I realise you are angry, and I too have read your "article" on your previous Wikipedia experience, but that is why I send it to AfD to get the views of other editors. Something that is notable for me in my area, does not entail it has worldwide notability, or I may think something is notable, but the overwhelming majority may not think that. But you are free to offer your views on the AfD page. Thanks! Phgao 02:45, 13 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • (didn't get to send this as retired tag was up) Alright, I hate to see a good editor go, but it is wise not to use Wikipedia to make a point and leave, however it is entirely your own decision. Phgao 02:50, 13 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

UAA question edit

I think you're right; Jewmaker011 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log) could definitely be construed as an offensive username, especially with the article he created (Jewbling (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)). I'd bring that account up at WP:UAA, to see if any other admins have any other opinions. --Elkman (Elkspeak) 03:44, 13 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I like your user page. I spent hours looking for user pages to kind of base mine off of and I think I will take some concepts from yours and apply them to mine, if you don't mind. I like the scheme on your main page. It looks nice. --Μ79_Šp€çíá∫횆tell me about it 08:18, 13 October 2007 (UTC) Reply

Talk page edit

The talk page is still there. Just enter Lodewijk van Beethoven in the search box, press "go", then you will be redirected to the Van Beethoven family page. At the top it will say "(Redirected from Lodewijk van Beethoven)". Press the blue link and you'll get to the redirect page where you can access the talk page. Cheers. --Folantin 16:10, 13 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Another plan: If you like we can restore the Lodewijk_van_Beethoven page for the time being just so people can access the talk page with greater ease. Of course, we'll still keep all the merged material on the Van Beethoven family page. After a few days, the Lodewijk page can be turned into a redirect again.--Folantin 16:15, 13 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Slow Down edit

Your nominations are malformed somehow; "this article's entry" doesn't show up. And high schools are usually notable. SolidPlaid 06:01, 14 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I don't know to fix it, but when I look at one of the pages you nominated, say Holder Elementary School, the this article's entry link appears red. SolidPlaid 06:08, 14 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
As for the high school, I'm sure it has some sources somewhere. SolidPlaid 06:08, 14 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I don't know what you are referring to. Can I get some links please. Also high schools are and can be AfDed if they dont demonstrate notability. Phgao 06:03, 14 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes I need some links, but I am using TW so it could be some problem with the script. Phgao 06:04, 14 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hmm strange but I fixed it. Seems due to the "_" in the empty spaces. Also it is true there might be sources, but they have to say that the school is notable or famous so to say somewhere, I am not debating whether the school exists or not. See ya! Phgao 06:11, 14 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
I might add; thanks for letting me know about the red link! Phgao 06:13, 14 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

    • Basically go with whatever works best. If AIV is simpler then use that. 3RR reports need to be compiled properly by the reporter otherwise the burden always falls on the admin. We need time to consider the whole issue and took at everyone in the articles histiry. I have popups installed which means I can confirm the violation in seconds rather then minutes simply by hovering my cursor over the diffs. This makes it possible to just pop by and consider a report rather than having to have at least 30 minutes spare to do the research and look at everything. R1 taggings edit

Hi, I noticed that you tagged a bunch of broken redirects for deletion. I'm not sure if you're aware, but we now have a bot, RedirectCleanupBot, with the ability to automatically delete broken redirects with only one revision in the history, saving us admins a bunch of mindless work. Since it will not delete any page with more than one revision (lest a good page be deleted by being turned into a broken redirect), your tagging forces the deletions to be done by hand. In the future, please tag only pages with more than one revision in the history with the {{db-r1}} or {{db-redirnone}} tags - the bot is much more efficient. :) Thanks, and don't worry, I'll clean up what's there. Johnstone Burgh FCBC 1993 & John FitzGerald edit

My articles on Johnstone Burgh FCBC 1993 & John FitzGerald are both notable. I admit Elderslie West (the burgh's pitch) & Alan Thompson (sub left winger) are not notable. The team I have written about are notable as most of the west of Scotland will know who they are, and as for John FitzGerald he is a superb player & a key member of their squad despite the fact he is currently still recovering from a hamstring injury picked up in August while playing for Queen's Park FC who I'm sure can be counted as notable as they are one of the most famous clubs in Scotland —Preceding unsigned comment added by DLB 4 eva (talkcontribs) 15:29, 19 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

No one expects a Pigman admin! edit

Wallowing in my RfA: This time it's personal...
My sincere thanks for your support in my request for adminship, which ended with 51 supports, 0 opposes, and 0 neutral. Doubtless it was an error to put one of the government-bred race of pigmen in any position of authority, but I hope your confidence in me proves justified. Even a man pure of heart and who says his prayers at night can become a were-boar when the moon is full and sweet. Fortunately, I'm neither a were-pig nor pure of heart so this doesn't appear to be an imminent danger to Wikipedia for the moment. Fortunate as well because were-pig hooves are hell on keyboards and none too dexterous with computer mice. If ever I should offend, act uncivil, misstep, overstep, annoy, violate policy, or attempt to topple the fascist leadership of Wikipedia, please let me know so I can improve my behaviour and/or my aim. I am not an animal; I am an admin. And, of course, if there is any way in which I can help you on Wikipedia, please do not hesitate to ask me. Despite my japes, I am indeed dedicated to protecting and serving Wikipedia to the best of my foppish and impudent abilities. I will strive to be an admirable admin, shiny and cool, reasonable and beatific. Pigmanwhat?/trail 05:25, 8 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Post Scriptum: I believe my collaged graphic at left, which incorporates the WP globe and mop image, falls under the rubric of parody for my purposes here. Or is it satire? Regardless, it's a legitimate and legally protected First Amendment usage under US law. Complaints and allegations that this is an improper "fair use" image will be entertained on my talk page, probably with fruit juice, finger food and exotic coffees.

Famous Pacific Shipping edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Famous Pacific Shipping, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of the page.

Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 20:14, 5 December 2007 (UTC) Reply
