My RFA

Hey, thanks so much for supporting my recent RFA. A number of editors considered that I wasn't ready for the mop yet and unfortunately the RFA did not succeed (69/26/11). There are a number of areas which I will be working on (including changing my username) in the next few months in order to allay the fears of those who opposed my election to administrator.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you sincerely for your support over the past week. I've been blown away by the level of interest taken in my RFA and appreciate the time and energy dedicated by all the editors who have contributed to it, support, oppose and neutral alike. Sure I would be glad to help you out with that Nina! I personally implement a manuel version of a status changer but you can use an automated version if you like. If you would like three buttons at the top of your screen that you can press to indicate if you are online, offline, or busy; follow the directions: here.

If you have any other questions in regards to how to implement it (such as placing it at the top corner of your page like I did, feel free to ask). If you would like a version exactly like mine (which is manuel and adds no automatic buttons to press on the top of your screen), feel free to ask again! • I did actually use to use a Javascript version of it but somehow the automation of it did not seem to work for me. I ended up making my own manuel mockup of it and simply seem to prefer it. Thanks though for giving some advice on the technical know-how though. I was simply removing vandalism on the bottom of the section "early life" which said "HE HAD A BIG BUT". I removed it because it did not seem to fit into the article, and appeared to be vandalism. I am very confused, and I do not think that I am 70.187.177.150 because I did not edit any pages blood, bicycles, or maga man x characters. • This diff link indicates the IP address of 70.187.177.150 replaced his last name with nonsense. If you share an IP address then maybe the edit was not placed by yourself directly. ACCP article

Dear Persian Poet Gal, I am writing to ask you to refrain from reverting the ACCP page to the information it contained on 1-12-06. I object strongly to your reversion of the American Council for Cultural Policy page on Wikipedia, and to the deletion of the edits which I have submitted. I am a member of the board of this now defunct organization, and I am authorized by the board to make corrections to the article purporting to describe the ACCP on the Wikipedia site. I have to insist that the previous text be completely altered. The organization is unable to "discuss" or argue an alternative position to completely false and libelous statements. Every characterization of the organization on the original page was false. Your suggestion that I discuss this on the "talk" page makes no sense, if the intent of Wikipedia is to make available accurate, responsible, and reliable information. The creator of the previos article is the person who should be encouraged to write on the "talk" page. If you will take the time to read my article and to compare it to the orginal, you will note that the original makes statements so contradictory to the actual facts of - for instance - the meetings with State Department and Defense Department officials that there is simply no way of comparing them, as if they were two dfferent versions of the same story. Several of the purported citations in the original actually cite to sources that do not contain the information purported. Every statement in my article was drawn from official statements to the press by the ACCP, the organization's legal charter, the organization's website, and publicly reported events in the New York Times. If you would feel more comfortable with a few additional citations, I will be glad to provide links to Wall St. Journal and NYT articles, favorable academic reviews of the book etc. Send me a note at fitzgika@law.unm.edu. The meetings discussed updating the database created in 1991 in order to avoid damaging Iraqi archaeological sites and monuments and to discuss concerns about strengthening the administration of Iraqi archaeological sites and monuments after any war. (This second meeting included Bonnie Burnham, President of the World Monuments Fund.) The ACCP initiative served as a model of unity and cohesion of purpose, drawing together members of both the museum and archaeological communities. Regrettably, at this writing, the Iraq situation has deteriorated dramatically. Continuing efforts by members of the ACCP and by other U.S. organizations to spur the U.S. government to work effectively to preserve Iraq’s cultural heritage have been obscured by daily violence as the civil war spirals. Subsequent to these meetings, a campaign launched on several listserves accused ACCP of encouraging the US government to facilitate the despoliation of Iraqi cultural treasures, and other false information on the goals of the ACCP were disseminated to the world press. While most of these accusations were subsequently withdrawn, similar libelous accusations still float to the surface from time to time. The ACCP’s first major educational initiative was the establishment of a website that included US and international laws relevant to cultural policy issues. Major articles on cultural policy were reprinted in full on the site, along with an extensive bibliography on cultural property issues and links to ethical practices policies for museums and other arts organizations, and to art register and law enforcement resources. A second, even more important achievement in the educational mission of the American Council for Cultural Policy was the publication of Who Owns the Past? Cultural Policy, Cultural Property, and the Law by Rutgers University Press (ed. Kate Fitz Gibbon) in Fall 2005. The book contained articles by thirty distinguished contributors, drawn from the nation’s top legal scholars, museum professionals, anthropologists, archaeologists, and collectors. The book reflected the ACCP’s commitment to include all perspectives and to encourage an open debate on vitally important arts issues. The most recent ACCP initiative was in informing the public on China’s request for the imposition of import restrictions by the United States on virtually all Chinese materials up to 1912. The ACCP co-ordinated with the Benjamin Cardozo School of Law in creating a forum for discussion of this and other cultural property issues. In April 2006, the ACCP co-sponsored a panel discussion with Cardozo Law School and The Asia Society; China and Cultural Property: Who Owns the Past? Participants included Professor Justin Hughes, Dr. Magnus Fiskesjo, James J. Lally, Nancy Murphy, and Marc F. Wilson. • That particular article right now is fully protected due to editing disputes. If you look at the top of the page you will notice a tag which states this. This is due to users edit warring with each other, that is reverting, removing, or editing content which is not agreed upon. Administrators enact a full protect till the dispute is resolved or has died down. Full protection can be controversial and even wrong at times, however usually administrators enact full protects that abide by Wikipedia policy. Hello hello hello!

I sort of gave up on the whole business because I couldn't find the sub-page you created. It doesn't matter - I'm most active from 4:30 in the morning (when I get up - I go to sleep @8:30 - 9PM) until 8 - 9AM, so who the hell cares if I'm in or I'm out. I already put a "busy" template on my talk page, so, you know, whatever. I'm pretty much in the "Fire bad, tree pretty" realm of thought by evening anyway.

I would suggest that if you want your RFA to be taken seriously by the community, that you put yourself up for Editor Review now. Don't worry about the backlog - that's getting dealt with. I've noticed that the same issues that come up in an Editor Review come up in an RFA, which would give you a chance to address them and adjust accordingly (or what-have you).

I know the perception is that a person only comes under review when they want an adminship, but look at me (and others). I put myself on Editor Review with absolutely no desire to become an admin (ever). It's just about the only way to get feedback from the community without applying for something, so a lot of people do it. In my opinion, it's a good thing to do when one is feeling "shaky" or "disgruntled" in any case.

How about this bitter cold in NorCal - or are you getting it? We've had temperatures in the low twenties for almost a week in the mornings. It seems to be letting up a little, but we had a power outage yesterday that knocked out almost the entire county @ 8AM. I think it was due to the cold, but I don't think PG & E is saying right now. • Though I really am not looking at an RfA as my key priority at the moment, I think that's pretty good advice. I'll see if I can create the subpage sometime soon and allow other Wikipedians to have at me :P. I live in Southern Cal but believe it or not, I got to see snow for the first time in my entire life!!! My family recently moved to the San Bernardino county and the weather is much colder than Pasadena (where we used to live). Our lawn was covered with a very thin layer of the white stuff but it was darn near amazing to me regardless. As far as power outages, we only experienced some minor light flickers. Hopefully that will be the worst of it. Last year the winds were bad enough to cut our power for about a day or so. On Vandal fighting and Editor Reviews

Hello, Persian Poet Gal! I have two questions for you, if you don't mind. First, what tool, if any at all, do you use to leave warning templates on user pages? The way that I leave my messages seems to be much slower than yours. Second, I am interested in working on your editor review. I use a JavaScript based monobook tool for reverting and warning vandals (see this post for more details on it). As far as the editor review, I'm doing it for both reasons mostly. I was encouraged to submit an editor review by Nina, if you look up at the post above. First and foremost an editor review would be good anyways considering that the community has often given me good advice in several cases. Also, Administrator Husond and a few other users have been interested in nominating me for adminship and I have agreed to oblidge a nomination by February. Issues with the new warning templates and VP!

As you can see, I'm having issues getting the new UW templates working with VandalProof! I think I may revert to the old templates until VP is up to speed with the new ones. VP is adding an extra line to the new warnings, double-signing them and recognizing usage of all new warnings as a Blatant Vandal warning -- the last being a fairly serious issue insofar as it makes it difficult to know for sure what level warning to give. Anyway, just explaining the oddness on that last vandal warning you and I accidentally "crossed streams" on :). Ginsengbomb 07:11, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi! I recently recreated the aforementioned PNG image in SVG format. Image:Throat Diagram.svg. This file is much smaller and scales much better. • Very nice work, the lines are quite clean and nice! However, graphically the image needs some adjustments. The transparency aspect does not seem appropriate for this image and I would suggest to raster it against a white background. Second, the lung area could use some work, the lungs are not defined enough and are very hard to see. Also, it may be better that the trachea overlaps that area rather than the opposite. One minor image discrepancy you have in your image was that you did not include the tunnel of the nasal passage as I had but it is not a big deal if it is not shown. Some areas look a bit too flat and could use some more shading but that's just my preference and not a big deal as well. All in all, I think it is still pretty safe to leave the image I have created on the Throat article but I would not mind at all if you would like to convert that same image into .svg as long as you give me credit as the original uploader :).¤~Persian Poet Gal ^(talk) 19:41, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

I love the clearness of the svg for sure! However, stylistically it still has issues. Nice job rastering it against a white background but a small part is clipped and still is transparent. The lung colors also seem to overlap each other rather than remaining inside the lines (all the components in that area such as the trachea, all seem to overlap). The label could also be diverted to the side for the lungs and use one of the black lines to point at them. I still think the first image should remain on Throat however, keep working on your raster and I'll give you my opinions :).¤~Persian Poet Gal ^(talk) 05:07, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

Looking much better! Unfortunately the image still got clipped again and you have the transparency problem on the bottom (for some reason the whole background does not seem to raster white). That was an accident as a result of an edit conflict. There are no less than 7 people editing the page within 60 seconds of each other. It fails to surprise me that an edit conflict would occur.

Vandalism explanation

Hi there Persian poet gal. Thanks for getting rid of that vandalism on my userpage a month or so back. hahaha.. as I suspected it turned out to be about 3 of my friends who at that point were a bit bored - idiots. One of them then said he vandalised your page when you fixed the vandalism on mine.. sorry about that but yeah it definitely wasn't malicious, as is the case with most incidents of wikipedia vandalism ( i suspect) this was just something done for a cheap kick by someone with too much time on their hands. In any case its awesome to see you doing such good work- keep it up!

Changes to warnings on User talk:Curiouscdngeorge

Hello, I have seen your edits before and wanted your opinion on a user who is changing the warnings on his talkpage. Curiousdngeorge changed all the warnings on his page to look like they are ongoing conversations.

On an edit to JFK, I questioned on its talkpage his edit to JFK's religion which is Roman Catholic. Another editor reversed this change. Today, this user changed it again.

Looking at his talkpage, it appeared to me that he just had conversions. So, I issued him a level one warning. Now, based upon his change of my warning, I now realize he changed all the warnings. He is probably past level four.

In addition to change the warnings, he is changing the headers which made it difficult for me to correctly assess his true warning level. I have advised him not to change my warning and put him on my watchlist. I would be interested in your opinion. Ronbo76 02:00, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

• I looked extensively throughout his talk page history and it does not seem he was issued warnings that would lead up to a level 4. Blatant vandals who remove serious warnings from their talk page would be more susceptible to being reprimanded. I doubt this user is a vandal. As far as the talk page alteration, he is making what could be considered as unconstructive edits; and as far as his editing pattern it seems like he is committing some stylistic errors, spurring conflicts of interest, and possibly replacing information with original research or unverifiable data. I would recommend to avoid the situation for the time being. If you feel the user is not following the advice placed on his talk page, try submitting a request for comment on him.
