Stub sort?

edit

You've removed the science fiction stub tag from a number of articles about persons, magazines, etc. important to the history of the field. I am gradually restoring these, but would also like to know your reasoning. Many articles have more than one stub tag, so that isn't it. Please explain! --Orange Mike | Talk 01:41, 13 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

As I've been known to say in the bookstore where I work, "Books, like people, don't just fall in one neat category." A given article may legitimately belong in a half-dozen or more categories. Likewise, a given article may be a legitimate stub for more than one category: sf-writer AND Canadian of Caribbean descent AND whatever. I've seen a single article with three or more stub tags, each perfectly legitimate and worthy of being there. That way, if there's somebody looking to flesh out articles of that type, they will find this article to hand. There is no policy or procedure (that I've ever heard of) suggesting that we should not have an article with more than one stub tag. --Orange Mike | Talk 14:02, 13 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
Nobody in my kinfolk named Julius; I'm out of the West Tennessee hills, where that name is not too common. As to the stub thing: my understanding of the primary goal of stub sorting is that it seeks to make sure that the article is a member of the stubbed category/categories, and that if a stub-category has an applicable daughter sub-cat, that the applicable one is applied (oh, and plain ol' alphabetization). --Orange Mike | Talk 15:07, 13 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:TeenKanya.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:TeenKanya.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 19:55, 31 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Belphegorpbk.png

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Belphegorpbk.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 08:04, 2 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Do you run these days with anyone that operates AWB or a BOT? Me thinks said disclaimer needs handled wholesale, though I'll be directly fixing up the 1632 titles. Cheers! // FrankB 22:24, 2 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

African cinema film icons

edit

Hi Your Pegship. This is His Baldness. Remember me. I was wondering if you could create some film/flag icons for the African countries. We have one of two but even South Africa is missing. ALso we need one for th Soviet Union. Could you create them? I asked Wise Kwai over 6 weeks ago but he hasn't done them yet. PLease respond a-hope you are well! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 16:27, 19 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Cool! Glad you like my "volcanic" developments. Yes if you see Template:Filmsbycountry you;ll see all the African countries that need them. Imdb is missing many films from each one. Burma has one of the largest cinema industries in south-east Asia yet imdb only recognizes less than 10 films!! when there are thousands. Hope you and those naughty children are behaving themselves ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 16:38, 19 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I have developed some of the lists see American films of 1936 etc. Completely created by me the entirety of them! Bollywood films of 1972, British films of 1969 etc, Hong Kong films of 1971 etc. All of the main cinema industries have pages by year now which I will be working on and filling out over the next few months. Not bad eh? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 16:40, 19 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Pegship. I don't know if you need to create an icon for all of the African countries -some have small lists but the main ones missing now are Kenya, Senegal, Guinea, Zimbabwe and Niger. We also need one for the Soviet Union. As film between 1917 and 1990 was "Soviet Film". ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 22:36, 20 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I also think its about time the Famous Five series was sorted out on wikipedia with infoboxes and the articles started. I loved those as a child ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 22:37, 20 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Cinema of Kenya

edit

What do you think about the new article Cinema of Kenya? I started it ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 14:05, 24 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

LOL! Wow what a cheek. Rather than actually give me word of encouragement for the work I've done you ask to " clean up" my user talk page? Just kidding. I don't use those great big table of contents in my preferences so I wouldn't know how it looked with a table. I think the TOC is pointless, and untidy in itself. I've moved the disturbing images to my user page. Is that satisfactory Your Pegship? LOL ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 10:45, 25 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

LOL. I hope you like the Kim jong il playing snooker image! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 17:14, 25 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Edenbridge-Humber Valley

edit

I deliberately un-categorized that stub so that it would get more attention for someone to merge it with Humber Valley Village (I don't know how to merge articles). I did not do it for someone like you to step in and categorize. --Pwnage8 (talk) 00:17, 23 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Could you correct the categories I have already created, I didn't know they had to be formatted and what do I do with categories that have no stub e.g Architectural History? Kathleen.wright5 03:22, 27 January 2008(UTC)

Cat:Drogheda stub

Films based on books

edit

Hey Pegship, how've things been going? Hope all's been well! Listen, I've been redesigning the WP Films sidebar, and in the process of looking over all the links, I've set aside a small handful whose current status I'm less than sure of. Films based on books seems to be one of them. I see that you've made some recent edits to the page, but looking at the larger history, it seems to have been moribund for the majority of the time. Now, seeing as it mainly deals with WikiGnomish activities such as categorization, to split or not to split, and list maintenance, do you perhaps think that the material would be better served as a section of a larger film-specific MOS?

This wouldn't be an overnight transition, but I've been thinking about creating a more thorough film MOS along the lines of the MilHist project, and it seems to make more sense (to me) as part of a larger guide to editing film articles, with subsections for different subject types. (A more comprehensive MOS is an especially pressing priority for the project anyway, since we now have a larger scope than just film titles.) In any case, I'd appreciate hearing your thoughts. Many thanks! Girolamo Savonarola (talk) 23:27, 30 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
