Medal for Gallantry

There seems to be an issue with the MG list. Looks like Martin Wallace is wikilinked four times under different names:

• CPL W
• SGT W
• CAPT W
• Signalman Martin 'Jock' WALLACE

Was this intentional?

Yes.

The Martin Wallace (soldier) page (and the book it refers to) is (so far) the only place I can find mention of CPL W, SGT W and/or CAPT W. (But I'm still looking.)

If you can think of a better way to do it, please do so with my blessing.

Yes.

There were 3 anonymous soldiers awarded MGs on the same day. I have identified two of them. I'm still working on identifying the third.

Unless we know his name I think it may be difficult to assert notability.

a) I'm not altogether sure why those in the "notable" list are more "notable" than any of the other MG recipients.

b) Surely anyone awarded an MG is notable?

I'm unclear on the meaning of your replies. Are you saying that CPL W, SGT W, CAPT W and Signalman Martin 'Jock' WALLACE are the same person? Also, are you asserting that anonymous recipients are notable because they are anonymous (I ask this because you have listed them under the heading "Notable recipients")? Lastly as a third level gallantry award a recipient of an MG is not in and of themselves automatically assumed to be notable under WP:SOLDIER, although they may of course be notable due to "significant independent coverage" in reliable sources under the WP:GNG (hence it would be a case by case assessment). No. I'm not personally saying anything. The Martin Wallace (soldier) page says they are 4 different people.

Ok I think I get what you saying now. From the Martin Wallace article: "Three other SAS soldiers, (a corporal, a sergeant and a captain), also received awards anonymously for their involvement in the same action." I guess the issue I see here is no where does it say they were awarded MGs, nor does it say that the citations refered to them as CPL W, SGT W, CAPT W. Is there a reference to support this claim? IMO we really cannot link these entries all to Martin Wallace (soldier) either as it give the wrong impression, equally unless there is a reference which demonstrates they recieved the MG I don't think they should be listed at all. You would have thought so, wouldn't you, but so far I've only managed to track down about 40 of the 54 recipients.

I've physically checked both references used in the Martin Wallace article (Lee and McPhedran) and neither indicate the identity of these three men, or what award they recieved. As such I think these entries need to be removed as without references to reliable sources its WP:OR (and likely incorrect research at that). Anotherclown (talk) 15:34, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

Hmmm. Short answer: Off the top of my (aging) head, no, I can't confirm.

Personal opinion (without any supporting info): I wouldn't have thought so. I would have thought Montefiore House was West of Montefiore Rd. Navy Ribbons

Ref RADM Griggs and three rows. The RAN seem to prefer ribbons in rows of up to 3 as opposed to Army and RAAF rows of 4. Fits better on the uniform. There is a ref somewhere but I can't be bothered looking it up. --Oliver Nouther (talk) 05:18, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
