Division/subsidiary in video game company infoboxes

edit

Your recent edits changed the studio names from the division field to the subsidiary field. One argument was that they are legally incorporated, but Wikipedia is not a legal database. Template:Infobox company says divisions "align with the internal organizational structure", so I think it would need a relevant independent management. Regards IgelRM (talk) 00:01, 3 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

You've been asked to stop making these improper changes to divisions/subsidiaries and locations multiple times. Almost all of your edits are unsourced as well. Please stop. -- ferret (talk) 16:06, 3 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Please also stop creating multiple accounts and editing logged out. This is typically grounds to be indefinitely blocked from the site. -- ferret (talk) 16:19, 3 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
You’re completely wrong and unfair. I don’t have multiple accounts, I lost the password of my precedent account and created a new one. I don’t edit logged out on purpose, I just forget sometimes to log in. I didn’t know it’s not allowed. I try to improve the pages not impose my pov. PaulUsuloo (talk) 16:35, 3 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
You’re making a mistake. I’m not the one who added InXile New Orleans. I just changed the status from Division to subsidiary and by the way on InXile website you can read on the About Us section : WE’RE AN XBOX GAME STUDIO IN
ORANGE COUNTY AND NEW
ORLEANS, FOUNDED IN 2002 BY
BRIAN FARGO PaulUsuloo (talk) 16:20, 3 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes, we know they have an office in New Orleans. You're failing to understand that companies can have multiple offices, in multiple cities, and that does not represent a separate corporation, or even a separate internal division. -- ferret (talk) 16:22, 3 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Again, I’m not the one who added InXile New Orleans. I was trying to clean things up (Raven Shanghai, Respawn Vancouver or BioWare Austin are listed as a subsidiaires, but Sledgehammer Guildford or ID Frankfurt are divisions? That doesn’t make sense!
If you have the solution/answer, you’re more than welcome to clean everything. PaulUsuloo (talk) 16:48, 3 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I never said you added InXile New Orleans. You changed it incorrectly though, so I did clean it up. -- ferret (talk) 17:06, 3 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hello Ferret, I see that you didn't do the cleaning, so allow me to ask you a few questions because everything seems pretty inconsistent to me.
I just want to clarify some things before making a possible mistake and getting banned again. I noticed that on the Raven Software page, extensions studios are listed as subsidiaries, which is the case on most video game developers' pages (see Respawn, Bioware, Rockstar, Turtle Rock…). However, on the Sledgehammer Games, Infinity Ward, ID, or MachineGames (basically, most of MS Gaming Studios) pages, they are listed as divisions.
For the record, on all Microsoft Gaming Studios pages (XGS, Zenimax, ABK) they were, at the beginning, all listed as subsidiaries except BGS. I'm the one who changed them to divisions before changing them back to subsidiaries after realizing I probably made a mistake and then you changed them again yourself to divisions :)
So, what's the rule here, please? Thanks PaulUsuloo (talk) 19:28, 18 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Paul, I'm not beholden to clean every article on the entire site. The rule is to follow the sources. Subsidiaries are specific legal entities. If you can't source that, don't use it. Divisions are internal business units that may not be distinct legal entities. If you don't have a source that is clear, don't change it. -- ferret (talk) 23:20, 18 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Exactly! This is why I reversed it to subsidiaries like it was before my intervention. Respectfully, I think you fail to understand that. PaulUsuloo (talk) 23:32, 18 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Fiddling inappropriately with URL templates

edit

Please stop. You don't need to "standardize" these. You're adding www to sites that don't need or use them. -- ferret (talk) 23:09, 18 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Dear Ferret, I’m not "fiddling" there is a lot of pages like this (most of them, actually) and you broke the link to the Double Fine website on your way. At this point, you’re just undoing what I do for the sake of it. I’m doing nothing wrong here. Chill out man, we’re on the same team. PaulUsuloo (talk) 00:04, 19 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
The changes were correct in some cases, incorrect in others. I think, in general, it is useful to have the target domain at hand and avoid redirects. Sometimes, the unprefixed domain is invalid (such as the mentioned Double Fine case), where the change would be required. I restored some of the www's for now for these reasons, but this kind of mass editing should obviously avoided. IceWelder [] 07:43, 19 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
